Good beer and good weather go hand in hand. They sometimes broadcast sporting events or host music outside, so check that out. The place where souls go to die....when I arrived to this outdoor brewery, there was really boring music playing. But you really couldn't hear it because of screaming children and babies. There were toys scattered all over the ground. Toy truck on the table we had to move in order to sit. It was just a desperate attempt for people with kids to kinda have fun. Not having kids, on my end, it sucked!!!!!!! Had to watch my language....although the kids can just scream as loud as they want.. They had reginellis pizza available, water and of course, beer. The beer and pizza were good. The atmosphere was TERRIBLE....a pathetic bar mixed in with a daycare. Don't go if you want to have adult conversations. Dogs were also welcome. I cannot appreciate enough having yet another haven for beer drinkers in NOLA. I, for one, am loving the surge of small batch, micro breweries in the city. I especially enjoy when a chill, pleasant atmosphere accompanies the tasty beer. Second Line Brewing offers just this. The large outdoor seating area is tucked away off the train tracks in a quiet, light industrial Mid City neighborhood. It's an easy jaunt from City Park and just a little beyond where the Lafitte Greenway ends. They've done a great job of transforming their warehouse brewing space into an inviting spot without any frills or over-the-top gimmicks. Just nice lights, tables and chairs, and picnic tables. I've tried the IPA, which is a solid IPA that meets what you'd expect. But my personal favorite is the Trans-Siberian Coconut. It is an imperial stout so sip slow or share with a friend, because it will knock you out, but it is still surprisingly light and refreshing. I'm not a huge fan of coconut, but that flavor in this beer is so subtle that it adds a nice twist and is a welcome addition for me. My experience is that afternoons and early evenings are quite kid friendly. Always good for groups. Indoor seating is limited so I've yet to go on a rainy day. The t-shirts are super rad! And I'm usually a big fan of whoever's playlist is playing! read more

As promised, I am bumping Second Line up star because they now have working bathrooms and they are pouring into glass! I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon, just to check the place out again and see if anything had changed since my last visit. Sure enough, they are now pouring their beers into glass and they have added a few more brews since my last visit. I loved the Chocolate Spice Stout that had just enough "kick" to it, without being too overwhelming. I also tried the Trans-Siberian Coconut which definitely had that coconut flavor. It almost reminded me of a "Mounds" bar. There was a decent crowd for a Sunday and the bartenders were nice and helpful. I'm excited to come back and try more of their beer. I heard they are going to start bottling and canning after Mardi Gras, so that'll be a cool expansion for the company. I'll be eagerly awaiting what the future holds for this brewery. read more

Staff (I assume brewers) were very friendly, I appreciated that. I guess the reason for my three stars would be the lack of pint glasses. A new brewery in MidCity?!?! YES! This place is fantastic. Has the intimacy of a beer garden, as it's sandwiched in between two large buildings, but doesn't feel cramped or sterile. They have about 5-7 beers on tap and you can run a tab at the check out area. There are many picnic tables and plenty of seating. We had a group pull up with our party to fill out the table. Very inviting. It'll be great if they get some live music and bring in additional food trucks. Mid-City must've been "thirsty" for a spot like this, because it's been packed since opening. The line gets pretty long waiting for a beer, hopefully they open up some more areas to buy. Beers I've had: Smoked Irish Red: Delicious! Very smokey and refreshing. I'm sad this is a rotating beer, I hope they bring it back. Batture Ale: Ok, it's on the lighter side, so if you're looking for something that's easy to drink, go for this one. Nut Brown Ale: Good staple. A little sweet on the finish and heavier than expected, but not a bad choice. Red India Pale Ale: Easiest to drink and very refreshing. This is probably my second favorite brewery after Wayward Owl for their beer. The brewery itself is a bit nicer than Wayward Owl and has a nice courtyard outside. They usually have one or more food trucks conveniently positioned for any chow needs. The visits I've made here seem to confirm this brewery as the place for parents to bring their babies to enjoy some beer as it is often just chock full of kids of all ages with plenty of newborn looking critters too. They also host plenty of dog parents too with numerous folks having their dog babies in addition to their human babies. This is more the way many of the regular bars USED to be before Katrina and the tyrannical Mayor Maoist Mitch started destroying our culture and the crazy Louisiana State ATF started their ridiculous garbage too which has caused a lot of harm to our NOLA culture and traditions. Thankfully we have this brewery workaround for now until we can fight off the totalitarian forces of Marxism and Fascism to re-establish our former freedoms and go back to our live and let live culture. read more

Second Line Brewing is a great addition to the craft beer scene in New Orleans! I've visited with friends a few times in the last several weeks and I have to say, I'm a fan! The way it works: grab a table and go up to the bar to order beers. They have approximately 7 beers on tap at a given time, most of which were the same during my visits but a few changed. They offer samples of the beers so don't feel pressured to order one without trying it first. My absolute favorite is the Saison Named Desire (but I have to say I'm a little biased since I love a good saison). The blonde is also pretty good and I sampled a beignet cream beer during my last visit that I thought was okay but my friends loved. Each of the beers are $5 or $6, which is pretty standard for a craft beer. While Second Line doesn't serve their own food, there are always food trucks there so you can chow down as you drink! I've mostly gone on Fridays and crawfish has been the food of choice but I've heard that other food trucks are available on other days of the week. Second Line is a no frills brewery, which I like! The seating is all outdoors, the staff is friendly, and it is overall a great place to go when the weather is nice! It is also kid and dog friendly, so feel free to bring them along! I only have 2 real issues: the lack of many beer choices and the bathroom situation. Is it just me or should a place offer more than 7 beers or have some other drink options? I love beer but I have some friends that would rather have something else. I also may just be spoiled by the number of beers at other places around town (namely Nola Brew) but I like having more than 7 choices. My other issue is the 2 bathrooms for the whole bar! When your establishment specializes in getting people to drink beer, you have to assume that people will have to go to the bathroom. Unfortunately, 2 bathrooms means a lot of waiting in line. This might have been my favorite stop on our beer ramble around town. I know; "you didn't go to [blah], so you can't claim this was the best". Perhaps, but I loved after a wander around city park and the sculpture garden. Great beers. Comfortable outdoor seating (seriously! They have outdoor chairs that are comfortable don't leave you with waffle butt). Sorry, back to the beers. Why are these better than some of the others? True craftsmanship. Full flavored but crisp. A nice range of flavors from Stout to ale with all of the requisite stops in between. No kitchen in the brewery, but food truck next the patio was serving food that looked good. I was not hungry at the time, but would have ordered as those around me seemed quite pleased. read more

Because it's coming direct from the brewery it is much fresher than waiting for it to go to the store and put out as stock. Let me start off by saying that I love this place. The seating is great, they have bathrooms now, it's kid friendly (with toys and chalk and everything), there always seems to be a food truck there with great food, and the beer is really good too...why only three stars, then? Great question. the answer is the types of beer that they have. I feel that Second Line has fallen into the "everything must be overloaded with hops" trap that so many smaller breweries are falling into. Don't get me wrong, I love a hoppy beer. I just don't think that *every* beer should be a hoppy beer. This is a great place to go if you want to sip on your beer for 30 minutes or so but it's not a place to go if you need to sit back and have a few beers to refresh yourself...Second line is just on the end of the Laffite Greenway but they just don't serve the kind of beer you want after having biked it in the sun or when you want to reward yourself after having worked in your yard all day. Even their lightest beer, the pilsner and their seasonals are hopped up too much. I'm not advocating a local Coors Light or local Michelob Ultra but how about something closer to a NOLA Blonde? Just a suggestion. again, the beers that they have are good but the lack of variety in this respect keeps me from coming as often as I otherwise would. read more

I go to Second Line Brewing all the time and I must say it is a completely awesome Mid-city spot. I had a great time there on Saturday where I was able to vist with some of my friends with children and little ones are welcome. For a brewery, this place has a great family atmosphere. It's not just a spot for drinking, they often host events such as movie nights, or bingo, they usually have a food truck or pop-up available for some delicious eats, they have toys for little ones, games for adults, and water bowls for the pups. That's not to mention the fact that the beer is great. They have a pretty solid variety for a new brewery and sometimes will even do a mixed drink special. This is a really great place to relax with friends, eat, drink, and have a little fun. read more

The bar is just inside the massive garages doors that give the place a nice indoor/outdoor feel. You literally hang out next to the massive steel vats that they brew the beer in. I really like this brewery! It has a great atmosphere, very laid back, casual, and not pretentious. They have a variety of beers to choose from. You can try some of the beers they're experimenting with, as well. The people (workers and guests) are really nice and friendly. There is some indoor seating, but most of the seating is outdoors and there were two food trucks. The brewery is kid friendly and dog friendly, which contributes to the communal atmosphere. Of the new microbreweries open in NOLA, Second Line is my favorite so far! read more

BLUF: My new second home. This place is a hidden gem in MidCity. Very very awesome. Hidden brewery with about 10 beers on tap. I only tried two but they were both great; a sweat potato saison (I think) and a lager. Both were great. They also have food trucks so you can eat there. The place itself is perfect. A big abandoned warehouse turned into a brewery plus both indoor and outdoor seating at large picnic tables and smaller tables. The people who work there are great. Very family/dog friendly. Came here for a party and the place is nothing but a brew warehouse but the beer here is very good and strong. They are hidden behind some railroad tracks in mid city and offer standard microbrews. The ale won my approval, it was very good, not too heavy and doesnt ruin your dinner. The IPA was a little on the strong side if you are up for the challenge. After one big glass of IPA I was on water the rest of the night. Look out for their tap at a bar near you. read more
