Our dogs have been boarding at Second Home Pet Resorts for the past several years whenever we travel. I have been boarding dogs for years in Phoenix and I can truly say Second Home is far above the rest. The big positives for us is that they have large suites that they dogs stay in. This is not cages separated by chain link. These have walls and doors. We have two small dogs and get a suite that is large enough that we can put their existing dog crate (which is large dog size) with them. This gives them comfort because they consider it their house. I also like that there is someone there 24 hours a day and that they will let you arrange for late pick ups. This makes much more convenient to pick up your pet as soon as you get home even if it's a late flight. My dogs love the cuddle time. The staff is very friendly and understanding. They really seem to get that you are dropping off your family not a family pet. read more

I had to board my 2 cats, Yoshi and Louie, for the weekend and was so lucky to find Second Home Pet Resort before I left. I only had about a week to plan for their boarding and everyone who I spoke to was so friendly and helpful when I called multiple times. When I took my cats in they were put in their area on their own time, meaning they weren't ripped out of their carriers and thrown into their cage. I was so grateful that the staff was so understanding that it was hard for me to leave them there since this is the first time I had to board them. They allowed me to pet them and say goodbye. I was also able to view their area on the webcam and was always happy to see when they were let out to roam around and when they were being fed. When we picked up Yoshi and Louie we were able to say hi to them before putting them in their carrier. The staff member showed me the paperwork they kept on file of when they would feed them, what they would feed them, when they were let out, and when they would use/clean their litter box. It's hard to find good reviews on a place to board cats since it's not very common, but we will definitely be returning in the future if need be. Second home pet resort is A+ and is truly my dog second home. My dog gets so excited to go there and hangs her head out the window just waiting till we arrive. All the employees know her name and play with her throughout the day. She is always clean and well cared for. So if you want your dog to be taken care of and loved this is where you would go there is no question about it. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable and know my dogs name and even take pictures and videos of her to show me. I am so grateful to have such a reputable and professional doggy daycare, boarding, and grooming center that my dog can go to and I know she having fun while I'm working. The owners are exceptional people and help rescue and foster dogs all over the state. they are very kind and caring people and obviously love animals. read more

I arranged to bring in my dogs in for a Personality Profile on Wednesday, 12/7/11, for participation in their daycare program. The day before the scheduled appointment, I received a call from Second Home Pet Resort advising me that they could not take one of my dogs because she was an American Bulldog. I was told that they could not accept my dog because other clients might think that she looked like a Pit Bull. I was quite upset with the generalization. Both of my dogs participate in daycare, going several days a week, at another resort. They, and their playmates of all breads, have enjoyed hours of good, fun play. Second Home makes no mention of a breed restriction or a perception of breed restriction and no one mentioned this to me when I took the facility tour. It is a shame that a business that claims to have a passion for animals would perpetuate a myth that certain breads are prone to aggression rather than choosing to EDUCATE. Fortunately, I was able to find another daycare location that does not discriminate. read more

I absolutely love Second Home Pet Resort. My two dogs go there once a week for day care and love it! They cannot wait to get inside. I do not live close, but am willing to make the trip up there. To the person who suggested tailwinds instead, I used to bring my dogs there. They are expensive and keep the dogs locked in cages most of the day. I have used this pet resort to board both my cat and dog and each time has been a great experience. The staff is so friendly and they really care about your pet. The facility is beautiful and clean, and they really put me at ease about leaving my babies with them! I have used other pet hotels in the past and this is the best one that I've come across. Their prices are pretty reasonable and they offer all kinds of extras (although at additional costs) to customize your pets stay. I will continue to use them in the future anytime I am out of town and need to board my pets! Only issue I've ever had with them is that their weekend hours are shorter, so when picking up my pet on the weekend I needed to be there by 2:00pm or would have been charged extra. read more

This passed holiday I boarded my dogs for the first time. I have never used a boarding facility for our dogs before, but will continue to use Second Home from here on out. My dogs mean the world to me and I have always had someone come check on my dogs while I am away. With my dogs getting older and one prone to seizures, I decided they needed more 24 hour care. I stumbled upon this place and I am so happy I did. Making the reservation was easy, just a few questions. I had to leave a deposit to secure my room, since it was a holiday. I was pretty emotional dropping them off, but a helpful staff member named Destiny assured me they'd be well looked after and helped ease the short goodbye. She even surprised me with a few pictures during their stay since l cried dropping them off. So nice of her!! I found this in common with everyone I met there. Picking them up was extremely easy and so exciting. My dogs were so happy to see me and they even turned to say bye to their new friends! My medication, dogs, and items all came back to me perfectly fine and l have a reservation booked in August and l have no anxiety about it! Thank you To Second Home and the lovely staff! read more

I am beyond impressed with this facility, staff and attention to detail. From the tour, the amount of time the staff spent with me and the cleanliness, this is hands down one of the best places I have been to. The staff was knowledgeable and showed genuine care for my dog. They are able to deal with a variety of temperaments and have different options based on what my dog needs. I had very specific needs, and they were able to meet each one of them without any problems at all. I chose to visit this facility based on several recommendations but I decided to board my dog here because of the level of care. When I came to pick him up he was happy, and the staff came out to greet me and give me their personal account of their experience with my dog. I appreciated this personal interaction and this level of care, as the staff did exactly what I asked of them in terms of his care. I opted to get the camera suite and it was reassuring to see to see my dog relaxing with his kong throughout the day. I highly recommend Second Home Pet Resort for any dog - from the highly social play group type dogs to dogs that require more behavioral accommodations. Second Home...we call it 2H....has been a lifesaver for us with our little Jack Russell. She has had a hard time with house training and separation anxiety since we lost our other JR who was 16. I've been bringing my dog LB here for quite a while now. She's fairly timid and doesn't take well to new people. Second Home has done a great job making her feel right at home when she gets there. They are incredibly friendly and in my opinion go above and beyond what's expected. Several times I have come in to pick LB up to find that they had taken pictures of her while she was enjoying doggie day care. I love the fact that they have an indoor and outdoor area for doggie play time. The facilities are always clean. The prices are amazing compared to most other boarding facilites especially considering that the smallest suite (the petite suite which LB normally stays in) is larger than the other petite suites I've seen in other facilities. It's a 20-25 minute drive for LB and I to Second Home but I am always willing to make it since I know she is left in good hands. read more

I highly recommend Second Home Pet Resort. I've been taking Lexie, my Standard Poodle, for daycare for about 3 years. She is an Energizer Bunny and needs to play and interaction with her friends. And when I say friends I mean the "regulars" she plays with and the human staff. The staff is very attentive, knowledgeable, consistent, and caring. Can't say enough about the clean facility, cheerful greetings. And, the best part, Lexie LOVES it. She's there 2 days a week and eagerly jumps into the fun. She has boarded twice. Once for an overnight and once for 7 nights and days. She came home to me exhilarated, healthy and happy. I have her groomed at SHPR, too. Doing a great job. The kennels are so clean I almost think I'd stay there overnight. 24 hr. on site coverage is very comforting. Stop by for a tour and you'll become a happy customer. read more

My inheritance is Maxx the Schnoodle! At nearly 16 y/o, with failing eyesight and hearing, I am very hesitant to leave him overnight ANYWHERE! In his lifetime, he has only stayed overnight at an aunts house twice! After seeing how happy he was being groomed by Lynea, and being totally impressed by the resort atmosphere & staff, I thought I would give an overnight stay a try. I chose the TLC Suite so he would be looked in on regularly and I could be notified of any problems. When I picked him up the next morning he was snortin' & struttin'!!! In Maxx's world, that means he is very happy :) The grooming is impeccable and the resort is 5 Star***** The staff are so pleasant & professional... I will def. let him stay at Second Home in the future and will most def. continue to request Lynea for his grooming needs! read more

Here is a follow up to my post regarding SHPR. We got a call from them that they found our cat's blanket!! Not only did they make it right at the time but they followed up by continuing to look for the blanket. I am so impressed as I had made peace and closure with the fact that it was gone. I am over joyed that they found it. SHPR called me to verify it was my cat's blanket and even took the time to email me a photo to confirm it. SHPR is a good business with good people working there because even when things go wrong they really do care and go the extra mile. We will continue to use their service when we go out of town. Not even Second CLASS. They have a hard time with the truth. I was dropping my boxer off for the weekend and it was attacked by a mastiff which Second Home was fostering. I had to catch a plane to fly to see my son on his birthday and we agreed my dog would be taken to a local emergency vet which I had used before. Second Home took my dog to that vet, then to another vet and got into a car accident in which my dog was in the front and unrestrained. Airbags deployed. Finally, Second Home to my dog to my own vet. Fortunately, I had some extended family and a dear friend who pet sits to follow this closely while I was out of town. When I returned, Second Home's owner told me that the emergency vet wouldn't see my dog "because she wasn't injured badly enough." I told Roger that would never happen. I went to the emergency vet and saw the actual record. It said "refused care due to cost." I would not believe ANYTHING they say. read more

We made reservations for Labor Day weekend and left a deposit. My husband got sick so I called on Tuesday to cancel our reservations for Friday. They refused to refund or offer a credit for a future stay. I was told that is their policy and I was aware of it when I made the reservation. Real customer service there! Even the campgrounds didn't give me a problem as I was canceling in plenty of time. I'll be finding a new place to board my dogs as they are not very interested in pleasing their customers. I'll bet they rent out our spot. Most businesses do use waiting lists as life happens and people sometimes have to cancel. read more

I checked out 8 different daycares for my dogs and Second Home was by far my top choice. I have reccommended them to everyone I know. My dogs have been there for daycare and also boarding. It is so clean, the staff is very friendly, helpful and obviously love animals. My dogs love going there. When we pull into the parking lot and get out of the car, they are pulling hard all the way into the play area which makes me know they are very happy to be there which is, of course, the absolutely most important thing. read more

Our experience here was outstanding! The building is beautiful, pet focused, and welcoming. The staff was very friendly and took time to get to know us and our dog. Our 14 year old border-collie/lab mix had a TLC suite for three nights at Second Home Pet Resort and came home happier then we have seen her in quite some time. It is a beautiful facility, extremely clean and smells nice too! They really went out of their way to create an environment that is not only pet-friendly but people friendly too! The super nice restrooms are a welcome stop after a long car trip. They are well-staffed and I love the fact that everything is so accessible - you can actually see the dogs playing together in a large floor to ceiling room. So disappointed after being impressed. When I first visited the pet resort I was given a tour and was impressed with the facility and Ryan who gave me the tour. I was going to be traveling and needed to board my dog for 11 days. I reserved a 'Pavilion' kennel so my dog would have access to outside as he has a doggie dog at home and is used to going in and out and I also paid extra to have some one-on-one play time with a member of the staff every other day. I brought my dog there for a day in a kennel, before my trip, so he could get used to the smell, staff, and being let out to go 'potty'. I double checked my reservation and was told that all was in order. When I dropped my dog off I was a little less impressed with the lady who did the check in - she did not seem like she was having a good day but since I was so impressed on my first visit I did leave me dog as scheduled. I provided them a bag of chewy treats for my dog, all following their guide lines on what chewy's he could have and asked that when he finished one, please give him another (there were six chewy treats/toys) My dog has a lot of energy so my thoughts were that with the indoor/outdoor access and the chewys he would occupied. When I came to pick my dog up I saw some credits on my invoice. It was explained to me that the 'Pavilion' kennel, with the indoor/outdoor access was not available, for five of the 11 days, when I dropped him off so he was placed in another kennel that did not have outdoor access. Also when I picked him up only one of the chewy treats was given to him, on the day of drop off. They then alerted me that my dog had 'digestive issues' during his visit in the first few days. Well that didn't surprise me since he had no outdoor access and no chewy treats to help burn off his energy. When a representative from the kennel called the next day she stated that normally their customers were fine with the credits when a dog is moved to a kennel that is cheaper (no outdoor access) which made me think - this is common practice for them??? It also got me thinking that since they had no problem promising me the kennel I requested and not letting me know it was not available (over booking sounds like) did my dog really get played with when he was supposed to???? Extremely disappointing. The rep then asked what she could do to make this right. Well it would have been great if they would have given my dog some outdoor time, as he should have had or have someone play with him one-on-one while he was couped up with no outdoor access but that did not occur. I'm not sure how they could 'make it right' after the fact. Bottom line is I will NEVER bring my pet there again because I don't trust them now. This really is a bummer as I will be traveling for work soon, just a few days at a time, but now I need to find another kennel. Also not sure why my dog could not be in an area with other dogs as he is passive and a enjoys to socialize with other dogs. Again extremely disappointing and I don't see how they can be trusted. read more

Second Home Pet Resort is really the only place we will take our pups when we go on vacation. They treat our dogs like royalty and are great communicators when there are any issues of any sort. During our last vacation, our dog got sick and needed medical attention. The Second Home staff was extremely communicative, kind and kept us calm throughout our vacation so that we could be rest assured that everything was being taken care of and that our dog was going to be ok. The suites are great and the dogs really seems to enjoy their visits at this resort. I left my beagle here and this was my first experience boarding him. I did tour the facility prior to the day that I brought my dog in to be boarded. They were great with the tour and showed me every area of the building. The facility is clean, and the outdoor areas appeared clean and well sectioned. When I dropped my dog off, they do take them off rather quickly, but I imagine that's a little out of necessity for us clingy pet owners! After 4.5 days of boarding, I returned to find a happy/clean beagle sniffing the hallway, and the gentleman who brought him to me was able to tell me about his activities during his stay as was the woman at the desk. It seemed like the staff knew the pets staying there both on the tour and through my experience with my dog. I've not had any bad experiences or signs of illness or diarrhea today since I picked him up, and I plan on taking him back for their day care options a few times a month! read more
