I was really excited to FINALLY get down to Second Chance. I love their mission and what they're doing in the community. Unfortunately, I could not get over how expensive everything was! My boyfriend and I were looking for some kitchen cabinets, and I was surprised at how high the cabinets were priced for the quality. I know the items are reclaimed, but for what they're charging, you would expect them to be cleaned up a little bit (this logic applies to the majority of the items, not just cabinets). We were also in the market for a new sofa, and for what they were charging for a used microfiber sofa with stains was the cost of a brand new one (or a used one in better condition from David's on the Avenue or Craiglist). There were some really cool salvaged antique items that I could never afford, and the trip was worth it just to look at those. Please note that the warehouse isn't heated or air conditioned. We went on a cold day, we were not dressed accordingly, and it was FREEZING! Also, make sure you use the bathroom before you go. The bathroom was an absolute disgrace. Since the inventory is always changing, I do plan on giving Second Chance a second chance (I know - corny). I won't come here for any "basic" household furniture or items, but will return if I'm looking for something special and unique for my home. read more

I have bought many things here for the addition on my house, doors, flooring, lights, radiator

Got a beautiful desk and bookcase. The staff was so kind and helpful. They even load your car for you. Favorite place for vintage furniture.

Updated 7/9/18: After a lot of contemplation, I'm lowering my review one star. I feel like the prices here on many items are a bit high, especially considering that most of the items aren't in an ideal condition. I still like this place a lot, but am shocked that some other places have better pieces at better prices. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like any thrift store, I beg you not to go in expecting to find exactly what you want and need.... For a thrift store, this place is so amazing. It's pretty much a giant warehouse of vintage furniture at good prices (a few things might seem overpriced but if you compare the prices to furniture stores in the area, they're usually reasonable). I love to go here and browse. It's also a nice place for inspiration. The selection varies but it's definitely a place I'd highly recommend checking out. You might find exactly what you're looking for. Even if you don't, you'll probably get some good inspiration. read more

The random selection of old row-house parts led us to nick name this series of warehouses the "old row-house store." There is no better place to go to find a new mortise lock for your hundred year old pocket doors, with skeleton keys to match. Visit the web site to see a photo sampling of whats available, and when you go, stop by every wharehouse, they are all walking distance from each other on Warner St. read more

I'm really surprised by the high ratings for Second Chance. Warehouse #3 was unbelievably overpriced (60s barstools in poor condition for $200?). This place has nothing on Urban Ore in Berkeley, CA. Granted, there were a couple of cool things here, it is really out of reach for most. Warehouse #1 had some neat stuff including a bench from the waiting room at the old Camden Station. However, they were looking to charge nearly $10 for a 12"x 36" piece of ceiling tin that was in horrible condition. Salvaging is good, but how can you when everything is so expensive? read more

The warehouse itself is amazing. It's really cool seeing all the details and machinery from the past. They have a huge selection of just about everything. You can definitely find some unique finds. With all that said- everything was extremely overpriced. When I think of reselling used items I think of greatly reduced prices. We were looking for a baker's rack/cabinet for our kitchen but everything was just as expensive (if not more expensive) than the new items at furniture stores. So we would be paying more for something that is used with blemishes. Great idea for a store but poorly executed. read more

This place is a DIYer's dream. Huge. Organized. Well stocked. Very helpful and courteous staff. Dog-friendly. Good prices. It's a GINORMOUS warehouse space, so don't be put off by the cold (in the winter) or the heat (in the summer). Just put on your walking shoes and dress for the weather. Some items are priced in "stages" and reduce in price over time as the item sits unsold. I found that if you ask a sales manager for pricing there is room to negotiate a good price... unless the item is very very new to the floor (understandable). Just check back in at a later date to see if it's still there! Added bonus, if you purchase something large you have 10 days to return and pick up your item. Perfect for that spur of the moment fireplace mantle w/ overhead oak shelving purchase you didn't intend to make, but couldn't pass up! This is now my go-to place for projects and parts to reuse and repurpose. Plus, you can't argue with the message behind Second Chance's philosophy and job training development - Retrain. Reclaim. Renew. Well worth the 40 minute drive to Baltimore from the DC area. read more

Has anything you could imagine to add character to your home. You won't find most of there products anywhere else. The prices are inexpensive and everything is negotiable. Double check tags because the first price is when it first comes in. A month or so later that price is cut in half. Then after I think 3months or so its cut like another half. If somebody doesn't buy it after a few months you'll get it for next to nothing. You gotta love it! read more

Second Chance - Freaky. Behind register - Furniture Stores Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

Second Chance isn't so much a store as it is just a collection of ... well, collections. Lots of dealers and people stripping homes put their wares for sale in Second Chance. Parts of the store are nothing but collections of singular items - you can wade through a sea of bathtubs, toilets, washing machines, and so on. They also have one long warehouse full of couches, chairs, doors, light fixtures, and so on. Along the way, you'll find lamps, light switches, doorknobs, and other random housewares. I even found a sealed vinyl record of the most famous 'Meet the Press' interviews. The real treat of Second Chance is just traveling through the warehouses, and seeing if you find anything. The prices are all over the place, and tend to be on the high side for the big items, but it's a place you should see at least once. read more

Great finds for reasonable prices!! Customer service, they helped with loading my purchase.

Great place to visit and it's for a good cause which is great but prices are ridiculously high. Some architectural salvaged items are worth it if you're rehabbing your mansion but an old leather footrest beyond repair with multiple holes in it for $69??? read more

Second Chance - Furniture Stores Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

Did you know there are 216 types of claw feet for clawfoot bathtubs and that they basically are not interchanagable? Well, that is what I learned on my first trip to Second Chance. And they have about 170 of them. Unlike the first reviewer, I have only been in the main two warehouses. But, the selection in those two alone is spectacular. If you are looking for something funky to spice up your drab eggshell covered drywall, this is the place. read more

Amazing place! I recommend this place if you are renovating your home and want unique items. Plan to spend at least 3 hours as the warehouse is HUGE and they have so many things to see! They offer fixtures, furniture, art, dinnerware, building materials and anything else you can imagine! The prices are all over the place depending on the item. The items for sale range from $1 to thousands as this store appeals to all budgets and styles! read more

Update: Second Chance will be relocating at the end of January 2012. I honestly can't say enough about how incredible the staff is here. They are some of the friendliest and most helpful people you'll run across. They greet you as you walk in, multiple people on the floor ask you if you need assistance and they genuinely thank you as you leave. Honestly, it doesn't get much better than that. We were on the hunt for tin ceiling tiles and we could have quite possibly looked for hours in their warehouse trying to find it. Instead, a very nice gentleman pointed us in the right direction and started to chat with us about their new location. It'll be interesting to see it all come together because they not only have the sheer quantity of stuff to move but some of the pieces are massive. They have reclaimed stained glass windows, completely assembled sets of kitchen cabinets and counter tops, not to mention built-in bars, fireplace mantels and piles of slate tiles. This time around they had a two-piece cabinet from the set of The Wire. Pretty cool, right? Go here now. Even if you don't buy anything, it's quite impressive to just browse and see the history behind things. You won't regret it. read more

Just left Second Chance with things to help me renovate my rowhouse. great value and selection of bathroom fixtures and a vanity. Didn't plan to pick up tile but the selection was different than what I saw about 2 weeks ago. Clearly new materials every day to choose from and really good prices compared to retailers. I feel good about keeping stuff out of the dump! Met a couple of great employees (kept our distance) and learned more about where everything comes from. Donations (everybody is cleaning out their houses) and Deconstruction (employees learn skills on how to to take apart a house). What they learn are skills they can take to any contractor job. Second Chance promotes their employees; what's better than that! I read Clay's review - dude, the Second Chance guys had nothing to do with the trees. Issues are with the developer. Thanks Second Chance - I'll be back! read more

I haven't actually bought anything in here, but it definitely a place to come if you: a.) want the type of uniqueness that you can't find at IKEA, Target, etc. b.) want to furnish your home/apt with said pieces. c.) want to view craftsmanship at an all time high... Even though most of the items are uber-expensive(rare too!), the staff is friendly, and answer inquiries timely too. I LOVE the date sell-by feature too. With a combination of people yet to find about this treasure and some patience, you could potentially clean up here. Do note that there are four different warehouses. But WH3 is for the home items... read more

Great for browsing - you can pick up vintage stuff for much less than vintage stores. Stocks are updated all the time, the place is enormous! Also good for furnishing your entire home or your new cafe/store - they have everything from living room furniture to industrial-type stuff. read more

Lots and LOTS of stuff here, mostly the higher end architectural salvage variety, but oodles to look thru. It's a giant warehouse setup with neatly (for the most part) laid out sections and wide aisles. More importantly, there are tons of employees wandering around and all of them seem to know their stuff, and are happy to help you find what you're looking for. Of course, it's working for a good cause (which it has explained very nicely in one section of the store) so your money is well spent here. It's also a great place to get inspired, so many weird and wonderful items that might help you finish that DIY of your own. So many ideas floating thru this giant space. Mind you, it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter, so dress accordingly when you visit. Best to come on a cool, overcast day if you want to take your time and really dig down on the cool stuff in this place. Some of the prices are a bit high, but the employees are quick to haggle with you if you're so inclined. We got a kitchen granite countertop set (including the island) for $250, or about half what we would have paid just about anywhere else. Definitely worth the price of admission, which by the way is free. UPDATE: Sorry Second Chance but you're losing a star for the way you dealt with the above mentioned granite purchase when it was time for us to come and pick up all the pieces. I won't get into a long he/said, she/said here about the pricing practices of Second Chance, but suffice to say, make sure that ANY purchases you make with Second Chance are clearly understood by BOTH parties (namely YOU and Second Chance). What are you getting, for how much money? Make them write it down on paper for you if you don't take the item away with you when you buy it. You'll be glad you did. read more

What a cool place! Walking through here made me wish I had my own home that I could totally redo! (Or even a little more space to do fun projects - I love that they have printouts near some pieces with ideas of ways to repurpose them... what a great idea! No need to search Pinterest, they've done it for you!) I also love that they have a little clipboard where you can write what you're looking for and your contact info so they will let you know if it comes in. I was sadly looking only for one very specific thing: a globe. (Preferably a cheapo one.) They didn't have one, but fingers crossed they get one and let me know! read more

So cool. I wish I had a giant house and giant bank account so I could go buy all the cool stuff .... There are some deals / steals there for sure .... Very hard to find well made stuff. Don't buy junk from the internet or box store. Go buy something well made with a story that will last forever you can hand down to the kids or go buy some junk that will be in the dumpster in six months .... read more

Great place to look for things for your house- and to research the history behind them if you're inclined. Second Chance also does such great things for the community, so why not check it out? The only pitfall is that there are some things that seem very over-priced, or that you can definitely find on craigslist for cheaper prices. If you are decorating your house or need a change, go look around. read more

I've been shopping at second chance for years. I've always found it a place to find used furniture and home goods in reasonable condition at fair prices. The past few times I've been in, however, I have been extremely disappointed. The prices have almost tripled over the course of the last year. Prices were never bargain basement, but you always felt like you were getting a fair deal based on the condition of the item. Now, they are pricing almost like a high-end antique shop. Used furniture is a really competitive marketplace and there are a lot of other options. I'm not sure I'll be coming back here anytime soon sadly. read more

This place is phenomenal! As a bit of a treasure hunter I was thrilled to have the chance to search through all the bits and pieces. Unfortunately we came almost at closing time and only got to explore one warehouse, but found dozens of items I wanted. I agree with earlier posters that it tends to be a bit on the expensive side, but we found a beautiful overstuffed chair on sale for $25. I'm notoriously an impulse buyer so I really appreciate that they have scheduled price adjustments marked on each of their items. Usually by the month it'll show what the item will cost if it remains in the warehouse. Although there's no telling what will be there in a month. The employees were very helpful. I can't wait to save up some cash and go back. read more

Really was such a disappointing experience on many levels , lots of interesting stuff but unfortunately no bargains, simply priced too high, note to the managers of second chance you really need to invest in customer service training it really will go a long way , the staff is rude uninterested and not helpful at all. Every one can have a bad day but I have been there three times with the same bad experience with different sales associates . If you really hate your job that much then you should try something different, I think it's a wonderful mission but ya just have to work at it a little better then you are. I'm not angry just saddened the place has so much potential. read more

What a shame this once beautiful place has turned into. It is now stuffed to the hilt with stuff. Couple of reasons: prices are too high, they aren't willing to come down any, and customer service sucks. Really unfortunate. This new management is out of touch and apears to treat their employees badly. read more

I am shocked at the high ratings - this place is way over priced and I have literally seen some of the same items for years!!! I have no idea how the place stays in business - although I understand donations from deconstruction really supports the place. I will give them - there are a few amazing, unique items - but no one can afford them. Love the concept - saving architectural items, reducing landfill waste - just poor execution - sorry just calling it like I see it. Staff is general extremely friendly - noticed one specific supervisor/ manager (?) on a couple occasions though who was extremely rude to staff and customers - not sure what his deal is. read more

My big disappointment is in the furniture/antique building. They are smoking crack if they think they can sell most of the furniture for what they're asking. Much of it is damaged and yet the prices are through the roof. They have some great things and a wonderful selection, but they need to come back down to earth and get real. It's a shame for the charitable organization because they really could make more money and turn furniture more readily if they adjusted their prices. You can go down to Hampden and get some great furniture for half the price which is a shame because I hear second chances does some great things for the community and I would love to support them-- I just can't justify the hefty price tags. read more

I was so excited to go here, I love the idea of finding something salvaged, fixing it up and using it. The only problem here the PRICE! $$$$ Holy crap the prices are for the majority of the store extremely HIGH! I mean, $14,000 for an old rusty chandelier, I can get one on Amazon for $300. I do really respect their mission, helping people get a job and helping the landfills, It just bothers me that every item in there is donated- so why the excessively high price on everything?? ...Saying that, it is worth the trip to check it out- really cool windows, doors and vintage appliances. read more

Cool stuff and expansive inventory. I thought the old piano section was especially cool.

I love this place and the people that work there, I have bought several things for my home. Yes, some stuff is pricey but then again custom built ,solid wood, kitchen cabinets are pricey brand new. The people that work there take pride in their work and are very nice and helpful. As for being ex cons, as another reviewer said I dont know and dont care. The object for sale and donations help people get job skills and it invests in people and Baltimore. read more

Been here twice in about 2 weeks and absolutely love it. Tons of space and unique pieces to explore. Despite it's size and the amount of inventory, the location is well kept. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Called earlier in the day about a piece and was told it was available, made the trek to the warehouse and it was nowhere to be found, asked for help and ended up meeting the manager who was very apologetic. I wasn't expecting anything from him, but he gifted me a very generous gift card for my troubles. Needless to say I was very impressed at the customer service I received and very happy to have discovered this gem of a place. read more

it's a place that can have something or nothing...have to visit a lot. Prices are on the high side, especially seasonal stuff, the staff never checks competitive pricing from retailers. Their pricers don't want to move their stuff ...lots of dust collecting on some of those high price pieces that have been their over a year. Habit for Humanity better priced stuff. read more

Stopped in during a house hunt up in Bmore and found some cool green glass and saw some serious pieces of old school furniture that I would laugh heartly if I saw in my house! But overall a very cool spot and the prices weren't as bad as folks have reviewed before. read more

This place is great if looking for salvaged goods (e.g. old doors, windows, appliances, sinks, faucets, knobs, lighting, etc.). New address is 1700 Ridgely. Prices were way too high for me, lots of $1000+ items

Great stuff. Got a killer deal on a couch and other random stuff. Bring cash to tip the loaders

I LOVE coming here... Great prices!!! Plan to spend an hour or two here because there's tons to look at! I always find what I'm looking for and sometimes I even have a hard time choosing what to buy because there's so much to choose from! Finally, I support their mission of giving people a second chance to have jobs and rebuild their lives, as well as to give items a second chance that would otherwise sadly be tossed or left to rot away. :) read more

Great staff. They will help you find anything you are looking for. I also love just going down there and looking around as I get some good ideas on how I might repurpose items. Tons of stuff from windows, doors, architectural salvage, whole kitchens. Be sure to dress warmly when going there in the winter. It's a giant warehouse and can get chilly. And, be sure and bring your measurements with you! read more

I don't even know where to begin! Second chance is an incredible warehouse filled with giving everything and everyone a second chance. From their motto, to the friendly staff, to their incredible merchandise, I was so pleased by my experience there today! I need to express the kindness in which my husband and I were greeted, by every single sales associate and staff member. Everyone was incredibly patient, knowledgeable about product location or product specs, and thorough! As soon as we finish our move to our new home, we will be back to support second 110%! Between their building materials, to their case goods, from their lighting, to their bathroom vanities, they take good care of the products and everything is very reasonably priced. It's a great place to browse around, you'll be sure to find something! Only advise, wear comfy shoes and bring a jacket in the cooler seasons. Thank you second chance!!! read more
