This is the business that makes me happiest when I see that People Love Us on Yelp sticker and logo on their info screen when you're waiting to check-out. Second Chance does what the name says, they give tons of furniture, appliances, accessories a second chance at life or available for rentals. For certain events in the city and different artistic activations this place is usually among the first on my list. They kind of have something for everyone and I feel like I always find something I love each time I go in exploring. The business also offers a second chance to those looking to get back in work life and I've always had pleasant and helpful interactions with the staff. I hope that this place remains here forever and if you haven't gone in to explore on a random day, correct that and check it out. read more

I was told about this place but I didn't expect what I saw when I came to this place. I got here 30 min before closing time, a lady at the door said, " we will be closing in 30 min" , I was like oh we will be out way before that. I was expecting to see a store with less expensive woods and cabinets as that's what I needed, I got there and saw a warehouse filled with things that just a lot and a lot and a lot. Ok. It is a A lot. I didn't know if I went around the entire place. They were actually asking us to leave at they were closing I didn't even see half of this place. There were, windows, all kinds of nice bathtubs, some monuments from The Lord Of the Ring Show, a lot of movie sets props not just little props I mean full on set, sets for court scenes, school, restaurant and all kind of heavy equipment- I got very excited because this was just working my creative field. I plan to get back here to shop. I have never been to any other of this store and not sure if they are all this magnificent. If you're ever in the area, be sure to check them out. Second Chance is an awesome warehouse style spot that seems pretty endless and is an amazing spot for your DIY home renovator. Wandering around the massive warehouse with some coffee in hand is always a pleasant experience walking from one section to the next and seeing all the intriguing wares. I've seen everything from an intact spiral staircase, a church's stained glass to an early 20th century freezers. There are sinks and toilets galore, armoires, light fixtures, doors, paintings, books, tables, tv stands, you name it - if it could have been removed from a pre demo'd B'more building there's a solid chance it's sitting somewhere in Second Chance! read more

Second Chance is a huge warehouse filled with all kinds of vintage and recycled home items. Love this place. I have been here twice now, the two visits were about a month apart. The inventory does turn over. They also update their displays to keep everything looking fresh. This place is worth a visit whether or not you are shopping for anything. They have it all - used appliances, weight benches, office furniture, staircases, antique furniture, glassware, kitchen cabinets, stained glass windows, chandeliers, outdoor grills, industrial equipment, art. All of the stuff is used or somehow recycled. Most everything is scratch and dent. It really is entertaining to walk through this warehouse and just browse the nicely assembled displays of items. A few things to note. This place is freezing cold inside in the winter. Dress warm. I'm guessing that it will be hot in the summer. The pricing system is interesting. Prices are on a mark down system - for example and item may be $20 the day it is put out, then 30 days later $15, then in another 30 days the item will be $10 (just a rough example). Most of the stuff is priced using this system. But the really nice original art work and good quality antiques are not priced with the mark downs. And this gets me to my next comment and that is that some of the prices for things are outlandish, The stuff that is priced right does sell, And the overpriced stuff seems to just sit there. The proceeds go to charity somehow but I forget the details on that. I will say that even though I give this place five stars for being entertaining I haven't actually bought anything here yet. Maybe I will drag home some original art from here one day soon though. read more

This place is hard to find but has a large parking lot. Has lots of used furniture and other household goods. Many unique and unusual pieces but most are for very large homes or office buildings, eg. stained glass pieces. Would have given four stars but the prices are high for used furniture. Generally, they will not negotiate but it depends on the sales person you talk with. read more

Pros: 1. Incredibly wide selection of anything you need for the home. This is our first stop when we have a project or are looking for something unique to freshen up a room. My wife refers to our trips to Second Chance as "treasure hunts". 2. The staff is generally very helpful and attentive. Anytime we've had a question the salesperson couldn't answer they were able to quickly find someone who could. 3. Their mission is one that benefits the environment and people. 4. This may sound strange given some of the other feedback I've read, but "pricing". I don't think some people realize that the pricing is tiered. In other words, the longer the item remains unsold, the lower the price goes. Also, don't be afraid to try to negotiate on pricing. We've found that there is usually some wiggle room. Cons: 1. The bathrooms are a bit..."rustic". 2. The store is not climate controlled. I was going to give a 4 star review for this reason alone, but if you make sure to dress with a mindset that it's the same temperature in the store as it is outside, you should be fine. Overall: We love coming here! We never know what we're going to find, but it's always something great. read more

What a great place! I'd been here before and figured the name meant a 'Second Chance' for all the salvaged stuff . . . . which it also does. But their main purpose seems to be giving back to the Baltimore community by training and giving jobs to those in need. And what a great place to work it would be. Please come check this place out before buying new or consider donating yourself. The place is vast with 200,000 sq ft of floor space. Whether you're looking for furniture, construction materials, a cement frog for your garden, or a giant chandelier, this is the place for you. I found a moose (elk?) ceramic pitcher that would have been mine except that it had a small crack in it. (That crack may have just saved my marriage.) And the prices reduce over time. Sometimes the time to buy something is when you see it, but if your on the fence you can always come back in a few weeks and get a bargain . . . . if you didn't miss out. read more

If Ikea and Goodwill had a baby, it would probably look like Second Chance. Vast collection of randomness -- yet actually very well organized with sections demarcated clearly. Absolutely agree with previous reviews: come here if you want inspiration or some "nuts and bolts" for DIY projects. And their new Home Goods section is super fun if you want to find "grandma's sofa" or that antique oddity like an old painted schoolhouse door (ignore the grotesquely peeling lead-based paint: it's called AESTHETICS, PEOPLE!!). It took me *forever* to actually make it there, but I will definitely be back! read more

Donation related experience- We heard that Second Chance takes donations from our neighbors on the Nextdoor app. We wanted to donate some furnitures and wrote an inquiry email to Second Chance with the item descriptions and photos. Got this reply- "Unfortunately, we cannot accept items that are broken, non-working, torn/soiled or in general disrepair, as all donated items are immediately put out onto our storeroom floor for resale to the public". One of the item was damaged but the others were in mint condition. So we wrote back to them asking why those items were not acceptable. Got this reply-"Our inventory". We found this a bit strange and it left us confused! It appears that an item's condition is probably not the reason of rejection or acceptance- it is at the discretion of Second Chance based on what they can sell. read more

Loveeee! This place was such a little adventure. My whole family came here looking for kitchen cabinets. We ended up not needing to buy new ones (replace the ones in my house) but everyone was still in love. The oldies like my dad and uncle felt like they hit a gold mind. I'm a wannabe diy-er so it was really fun seeing all the inexpensive things I can incorporate into the house. The fiancé on the other hand.... He's into new shiny thighs so this was not for him at all! My dad keeps talking about it and we will prob plan to do the same thing but... They have a nice stone counter section. And everything was so cheap! It is pre cut and Came in many pieces for most of them. For us we have a little bar that we wanna resurface and I think the slabs they have are perfect! I've driven past this place a lot and finally got to check it out. I think this would be more of a window shopping type place for me. There are a lot of interesting pieces but I have no clue how I would add them to my style. The store is very organized and clearly marked. Neat place to check out and if I needed building supplies (or more handy) I would definitely shop here. The 5 starts are because of the repurposing of materials in the space (the stairs, the windows, etc.) I can totally see bringing people here to shop! read more

The place is a huge warehouse with no organization. The pricing for the items are over the top expensive. The customer service at checkout was something to be desired. Do not enter the store hours before closing time. They are ready to go home. Very rude. Think huge warehouse. Think DIY projects up the wazoo. I wish I had a garage and a big truck and some friends with creative skills who had tons of extra time...maybe when I retire... This place takes old stuff that they either buy from old buildings that get torn down or from donations, and they resell all of it. Furniture, artwork, drawer pulls, big chandeliers, ugly pink bathroom sinks, doors, fireplace mantels, siding, antique stoves, used washing machines, kitchen cabinets, marble countertops, books, movie theater chairs, boxy TVs, flooring, and more. This one lady had the only foosball loaded and out to her car before I could even think about playing a game. Get your stuff before someone else snatches it up. But if you're willing to gamble and wait, the price will drop several times over the next few months if it's still for sale. That's the best. read more

Of all the years I've lived in good 'ol Bmore, I've never heard of Second Chance. I was quite excited to go there, I mean I LOVE second hand stuff because you never know what you will find. The purpose of this trip was to look for cabinets. I called beforehand and was told that they set things up to look like kitchens. Any who, the kitchens looked nice, but I thought the prices were a little too high for the condition of the cabinets. I thought it was pretty cool that they would break things up to suit your needs. The staff was awesome, they were really helpful with the measuring and the locating of things. I tried to peruse a bit, they had some nice things. I still think the prices were a bit high, but I think that they will work with you. I think the next time I return I'll make sure I have more time to check things out. read more

I love this place and its mission statement. They have an ever changing, huge inventory of furniture, appliances, art, and miscellaneous items (today I saw a small canoe size boat and a hot tub). Items used for filming movies and tv shows as well as historic pieces find their way there as well as furnishings from demolished homes. For those who donate you get a tax break and for patrons you're helping support training for their employees, many of whom are getting a second chance in the working world and in life due to previous convictions. The staff is always ample, working together from fork lift operators to sales people to those assisting on the floor to bring items from the display areas located through out the ware house to the loading dock. Parking is never an issue and you could spend hours there strolling up and down the aisles created by all the goods! Prices vary but are fair and there are three prices based on the date. For example if an item isn't sold by the dates listed the price goes down. They have sales and holiday shopping prices too. If you're looking for great items that you won't find anywhere else, and things with a story and character this is your place. I would go every weekend if I could. The bathroom isn't the cleanest and it's cold because it's a huge drafty Ware house but other than that no complaints. As you shop it's best to claim items by getting a salesperson to write up a ticket and have it moved to the loading area. Cash or card accepted. We are so excited to make our own dining room table with lumber and materials we bought today. read more

Let me start by saying this place has great stuff, one of kind items. I purchased a bedroom set and planned to pick it up the next day. Unfortunately, upon arrival the bed frame was damaged. The guys hauling explained the situation and how it happened. In disappointment, I went to the checkout to get a refund. The women assisting had no costumer service skills. She could have at least pretend to be apologetic about the bed. Anyway, I did receive my money back. Based on the customer service, I will be looking elsewhere for a bed. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! it is so sad, but this place has really gone down hill. ive recommended them to hundreds of friends and clients over the years. now, i'll be telling everyone not to waste their time anymore. On two recent shopping trips we drove up to Baltimore from DC early thursday morning to get the best of their inventory before it gets bought up. once again it turned out to be a total waste of time. they have almost nothing of value in inventory. twice now we have found one thing we did want to buy, but there was no price on it. we waited about 20 minutes to get a "red shirt" salesperson to help us, only to be told they can't give us a price...??!! what the hell? why bother having a store? why bother putting things out on your warehouse floor? how does it benefit anyone to waste your customers' time like this?? how do you fool yourselves into thinking that you're helping the homeless or anyone else for that matter? I - and lots like me - will not be back and Second Chance will be another in a long line of businesses who forgot how to respect their customers and failed because of it. read more

First let me say totally different place than just a year or so ago and not run the same!! I'm sorry but I was disgusted by the way you're not greeted when entering anymore or asked if they can assist you in any way!! There were plenty of employees there trying to look busy and ignoring customers!! Several times an employee looked at me then saw someone who they apparently knew and just walked by me like I was a hologram!! The items used to be set up in groups to look at, now they're just piled on top of things so you can't see most items or determine whether something is part of a set!! That's when I went to customer service desk and asked about signing up for news letter (which I have previously done several times??)A young man Jerrod tried to assist me with their locked up computer and then Carla-previously ignored me to chat with friends-asked why he was helping me!? I told her he was THE ONLY 1 in entire place who even acknowledged me! I told her I was disappointed with my experience and she said well we're short on selling staff and I explained that they were not friendly or helpful like they had been in past. I feel like the prices here on many items are a bit high, especially considering that most of the items aren't in an ideal condition. I still like this place a lot, but am shocked that some other places have better pieces at better prices. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Like any thrift store, I beg you not to go in expecting to find exactly what you want and need.... For a thrift store, this place is so amazing. It's pretty much a giant warehouse of vintage furniture at good prices (a few things might seem overpriced but if you compare the prices to furniture stores in the area, they're usually reasonable). I love to go here and browse. It's also a nice place for inspiration. The selection varies but it's definitely a place I'd highly recommend checking out. The warehouse itself is amazing. It's really cool seeing all the details and machinery from the past. They have a huge selection of just about everything. You can definitely find some unique finds. With all that said- everything was extremely overpriced. When I think of reselling used items I think of greatly reduced prices. We were looking for a baker's rack/cabinet for our kitchen but everything was just as expensive (if not more expensive) than the new items at furniture stores. So we would be paying more for something that is used with blemishes. Great idea for a store but poorly executed. read more

Wow, what an interesting place! It was so much fun to walk through, although it was VERY COLD!! Brrr!! They have so many pieces of mix matched stuff. Antiques of all kinds, church pews, hot tubs, sinks, windows, fridges, kitchens, chairs, lights, etc. It goes on and on. If you need something for the house it's worth coming to take a look. Not sure about the pricing on everything but it seems there is a lot of history here and a lot of great pieces that could use a second chance. Basically, Second Chance has 5 warehouses full of stuff to renovate your house. The 5 warehouses are located within 2 - 3 blocks of one another (don't mind the other crumbling buildings around it!) and is easily walkable. Seriously, the clawfoot selection is amazing. You can also buy mantels, cabinets, doors, appliances, furniture, lamps, radiators (and covers), some antique toys, stained glass ... and the list honestly goes on and on. Most of the stuff is 'architectural salvage' but they also have some consignment stuff and newer stuff. I'm not quite sure how this works, but Second Chance is a non profit organization.
