Ryan's Relics is a SPECTACULAR find. My husband and I live in DC, and are in desperate need of furnishing our first home. A coffee shop in DC attributed its very chic antique-styled furniture to a place in Baltimore. With only that information, and no name, we searched for antique shops in the Baltimore area. Ryan's Relics caught our eye (you can peruse merchandise on the website) and we decided to make the trek from DC to check out the goods in person. We were not disappointed. Sitting on a very unassuming corner, Ryan's Relics is a goldmine for quality antique furniture. Yes, there are some "garage sale" type items (comic books, trinkets from yesteryear, costume jewelry), but what really sells this place is the furniture. Gorgeous hardwood and well-made items in excellent condition - with pretty fantastic prices to boot. Not the kind of deal you're likely to get off of Craigslist, but a deal just the same. Furniture ranges from old secretaires to china cabinets to vanities to sideboards/buffets to desks to armoires to headboards to couches...you get the picture. We ended up getting two beautiful items made of mahogany wood. A china cabinet ($150) and a dresser/chest of drawers ($250) - each in outstanding condition - no noticeable blemishes and no defects. While there are pieces ranging from a variety of periods, the early century furniture seems to be most popular. Our china cabinet and dresser are from the 1930's. The only problem we had was getting the furniture back to DC. The store used to contract out to a moving guy, but he had just severed ties with R.R...so we were left to our own devices. Items can be held for a few days, about 3-4. We ended up renting a U-Haul from DC (a hassle but cheaper than what we were quoted elsewhere for a mover) and the staff at Ryan's was so sweet and helpful in packing up our items and helping us to secure them in our little truck. They close strictly at 6 but stayed later to make sure we were all squared away with our items. They also told us that they sell many of their items to antique dealerships in DC and Virginia - who of course then mark it up at least 100%. We actually have been to a couple of antique places in DC carrying similar items...at several times the cost. So, while this store is out of the way for us, the amazing quality of goods and relatively affordable prices and superb customer service will guarantee that we make another trip up. read more

Good, solid furniture at low prices. They also have a good selection of books, electronics, housewares, and costume jewelry. A lot of the pieces they have are very unique, and they occasionally have some pretty eye-catching things. I've seen everything from baseball cards to Nintendo games to McDonaldland glasses to speakers to Coke bottles to golf clubs to records. The inventory changes fairly regularly, and it's listed via picture directory on their website - which, by the way, takes a while to load. read more

This is the smaller building of the two Ryan's Relics, a few blocks from the gigantic Ryan's Relics store. The smaller decor is downstairs (jewelry, china, high brow items, and kitsch) except for some corner cabinets, china cabinets, and lamps. The upstairs has some of the sizable furniture that you might find at the larger RR store. Ryan's furniture has character. I loathe the McMansion-type modern furniture so it is a fantasy land here. There are many furniture themes here but my favorites are mahogany pieces from the Jacobean, Georgian, Queen Ann, and Victorian era. They have plenty of mid-century/Mad Men, Gothic Revival, Amish-styled, Brady Bunch, and even Rococo pieces. If you find several items or a large and bulky item, they can deliver it to your home for a small fee. The staff will also put the items in your car if it can fit. read more

This place is amazing. After moving here from Chicago, where art deco deals drip from every thrift and antique store, I was extremely worried about how on earth I was going to furnish my new house, which is historic and adorable and worthy of more than the Ikea fare I thought would be at the limit of my budget. I stopped at a couple used furniture places I drove by and was appalled by the prices folks were willing to charge for junk with a straight face around the Baltimore area. Then, I heard about Ryan's Relics from a friend. We found a beautiful old wardrobe to put coats in for less than $200 - anyone who's ever tried to find something of this ilk will know that that's a good deal even for a used laminate contraption that's spent the last twenty years getting dinged up in someone's office. We also got a beautiful old cherry beadframe - again, less than $200. Finally, we ended up with a semi-unexpected (I never go in for matching furntiture) dining room set. It's Thomasville, with an unusual amount of character, and in impeccable condition - 6 upholstered chairs, a table that could easily fit 10 with its leaf in, a china cabinet, and a server - for around $600. Try to get two chairs from the same company new, and you'll get chairs not made as well (these are about 40 years old, we think) for what we paid for the entire thing. My future father in law professionally refinishes and repairs wood for four star hotels, and is skeptical and sardonic by natural inclination, but even he was amazed when he saw the stuff and heard what we paid for it. There was also this awesome carved tea table that we'd like if we had anywhere to put it. The inventory seems to turn over fast, so if you don't find something, wait two weeks. The guy for whom the shop is named is typically around the newly opened, second location (as far as we can tell, having been there 2-3 times), working in the back and seeming for all the world like a grad student with a part-time gig refinishing stuff, not a genius of estate furniture reclaimation. He helped load our stuff into the truck when we brought it around. It just feels like you get good stuff, from interesting folks, for a great price when you go there--and there's a sort of treasure-hunting buzz after prowling around the huge expanse of Baltimore's attic for very very nice old furnishings, too. Finally, they have a website, which gives you an idea of the sorts of things they carry--but I think you will find deals are better than you expect, as is merchandise, if you check the place out in person. read more

I love this store so much I drive up from VA. The inventory is always changing. They post numerous photos on their website so you can window shop long distance. The staff are so nice they have taken measurements and emailed me additional photos of items to help me decide before the long drive. Great items and fantastic prices. Totally worth it. read more

Though this shop may be catagorized under antiques it's really more of a thrift shop or permanent garage sale. Not that it doesn't have interesting finds but most of the stuff there is not old in the antique sense. read more

They have a huge collection of all types of furniture in all different styles and to meet all different budgets. They also sell all types of knick knacks and collectibles. The furniture sold here is unique and high quality. As far as smaller antiques (decorations, jewelry, etc), you're looking at everything that couldn't be sold on eBay, mostly because no one wants it or its broken. read more

I just bought a new house and furnished it completely from Ryans Relics!! Cannot say enough good things about this store. Check out the website; you will get a good idea of the inventory but definitely come to the store because they have much more. Also, two stores! They are a few blocks apart and the newer one is the size of a warehouse. The furniture is top quality and better than reasonable prices. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. read more
