Best place, hands down, to find "recycled" parts for your home. I have been to quite a few salvage yards and stores, and Second Chance has an inventory second to none. The prices vary a lot - for things that are in demand, the prices are higher (for example, vintage doorknobs). But you will find almost anything you're looking for there. The staff are really friendly, and the hours are fantastic. I highly recommend Second Chance, and go there almost once a month. Love it!! read more

Absolutely love this place. The people that work there are nice, supportive and helpful. The weekly specials are out of this world. For a novice do-it-yourself-guy like me, it hurts a lot less to mess up when the prices are at a bargin. Not to mention the high quality of choice for antiques and interesting items with lots of character. I purchased a 2" thick, oak patio door with glass in the center on sale for $31 regularly $125. The higher ratings must be for the mission here, but no way for to quality of the merchandise and prices. The last time I went, I said to myself I'd never go again because while things are old and damaged, the prices are so high that I'd rather buy new or look on criagslist. They have solid wood interior doors that are no where near good condition and they want 125 dollars (I just checked online, can get them cheaper new). I saw an exterior mahogany door with a funky door knob set for 750 dollars. Anyone that likes mahogany would not consider 750 while having to repair the spot with the funky knob. If spending 750, I want it perfect. Old refrigerators that are paneled to go into a kitchen with matching cabinets for 450... a boat load of old appliances there that you have no idea whatsoever their history and priced way beyond (3 or 4 times) what you find on craigslist. Used lumber with nails removed in very rough condition for huge price per linear foot. I can't imagine what projects would consider using wood from here given what you may have to do later to make it right for your project. For a lot of the stuff, they would be better off dismantling it for proper recycling. I could go on and on. Nothing here is priced fairly in my opinion. I broke down today and gave this place another try - no way I will ever go there again. read more

This place rocks! The price varys by what you're looking for and what they have in stock, and the staff there are super friendly and nice. My wife and I had multiple people ask if they could help us, and those that did would check back in with us every once in a while answering questions or pointing other 'treasures' out. I'm writing as a donor. We will be moving soon to a much smaller place and needed to let go of a lot of furniture (dining room table and chairs, sofa, loveseat, etc.). They sent a three-man crew to get it. They did a very quick and professional job. They were very careful not to nick or scratch the furniture or the doorframes or walls as they carried things out. Like, wow. I visited Second Chance's Warehouse 3 a week ago and was impressed by the wide range of antiques, stained glass and items from architectural salvage. Most pieces are quite pricey, but you can find items for less than $300 if you look hard enough. I was hoping to find some type of unique upholstered sofa, or a coffee table, but didn't see exactly what I was looking for at my price point. This is the spot to check if you want a show-stopping focal point for a room in your home - large gilded mirrors, items that appear to be from churches, manor homes and hotels, sinks with lapis and gold handles. Great thrift and second-hand furniture store! The salesman will haggle the prices down for you if you have enough time and energy to engage in that. You could possibly get a significant discount if you do. They have a huge selection of furniture spanning decades! They also have appliances, cabinetry, sinks, toilets, doors, windows, church pews, whatever you can think of this store probably has it for sale. My mom furnished an entire bedroom for under $200. Are they out of their F-ing minds with these prices? I get it that some of the money has to go to job training programs etc but if they actually sell stuff at the prices they're asking there is no way this place is a 501-C3. Most everything they get is donated, some of it donated by wealthy donors remodeling homes, so you'll see used Viking, Thermador, etc appliances, some nice kitchen cabinets etc. But the pricing is absolutely outrageous for heavily used and usually outdated stuff. Don't go expecting a bargain. Even stuff like used lumber/flooring is pretty pricy. You may stumble upon something you just absolutely can't get anywhere else which is what saves this place from 1 star, as the warehouse is massive. I honestly can't even fathom that stuff actually moves through this place at their asking prices. Some of it is even more than brand new. I saw a BEAT pre-fab vanity whose model I actually recognized from Home Depot, except they were asking $125 more than new. read more

My wife wanted to replace a desktop and put in some shelves so she dragged me to Second Chance near Pigtown. It was hard to find at first. Driving from the west it was the last right before 295, and you can't exactly circle the block from there. It is a huge set of warehouses, the main entrance clearly used to be a high-class municipal building of some sort, but there is no heating to speak of (and probably no a/c in the summer) so dress accordingly. They have all sorts of reclaimed items from torn-down or reconstructed buildings, from old-time appliances and hardware to flooring and furniture. They also have books and I saw one woman by a vintage Welcome Back Kotter doll, so they don't seem to have a limit on what they are prepared to sell. It was tempting to browse the restaurant section just to admire the beautiful bars and sinks they had available, but we made our way to the flooring aisle which was composed of racks and racks of different tongue-and-groove pieces bundled and sorted. We pored through the racks and eventually pulled out a few bundles that met her length and style specs. I wasn't really sure what to do after that, but finding one of the wandering salespeople was easy enough and he wrote me a ticket for our selection, told one of the other workers to move it, and instructed us where to pay and pick it up. I felt the wood we bought was a bargain, and my wife is tickled about repurposing it. This should be a first stop for any project. read more

We loved our visit here yesterday!! We hav railways heard of repurposing old doors and windows at a cheap price and we finally found them. Previously web had been only finding them for $100-200 each. Not here. My son did find some cool old hardware foray end table he is refurbishing. Some of the prices were extremely high like the previous reviewers have mentioned but we found a lot of stuff to be reasonable as well. We left extremely happy!!! I've stopped by a few times and it really is a very interesting place. The prices don't seem that bad to me, except on the big items, but I'm in no way a furniture/fixture/weird antique-price expert, so take that with a grain of salt. The best thing about Second Chance is just how eclectic it is. There's neat little bits scattered everywhere. Even if you're not planning on furnishing or refinishing your place, it's interesting just to walk around and look at some of the impressive architectural elements that they have for sale. read more
