What an adorable little neighborhood spot!! I stopped in for lunch on a weekday and it was pretty busy but we were able to find indoor seating without a problem. They have a cute little outdoor area too, which must be great when the weather cooperates. It's got a cute Italian (Sicilian) vibe going on with a menu full of sandwiches, soups, salads, and desserts. I immediately went for a sandwich because they have house made focaccia bread and chips! The Turkey and Trapanese Pesto was calling my name. It had roast turkey, provolone, Sicilian almond-tomato pesto, pickled red onions, arugula, sun-dried tomato aioli, and that beautiful focaccia bread. It's a large portion and initially I didn't think I could finish it, but I found the space. Everything worked well together and you could tell it was hand crafted with care. I took home a chocolate chip, ginger molasses, and lemon sugar cookie. They are all made with olive oil and were all delicious! My family really enjoyed these! A super cool Italian sandwich spot. Lots of seatings inside and out. Love the colorful decors and staffs were super friendly as well. We tried the Turkey Foccacia and the Sebastiano Mufaletta. Both were tasty. Their deli ingredients were super high quality. The mufaletta bread was kinda dense though, definitely prefer the foccacia one. Radicchio Salad was a great side for the sandwiches. Italian deli? Not your classic version of such a thing but ultra tasty Italian food non the less. Think of a more upscale version of an Italian market. The breakfast options are top level. The sandwich is incredible and the breakfast potatoes are a unique switch up to your traditional hash brown. I've had a classic sandwich from here as well. An elevated version of an Italian sandwich. They offer all sorts of side dishes and pasta salads and such. The most unique thing about this place is the pastry options. You go to a place where you can get an elite sandwich and an elite pasty. This is absolutely the definition of a gourmet sandwich shop! Fresh takes on everything you can put between two slices of fresh breads baked daily in-house. They have lots of vegetarian options. Our group picked up to go but they have a nice indoor and outdoor dining area. We ordered the "Herby white bean veggie Sando", the "Melanzane (eggplant) Muffuletta, the "Asparagus and herby ricotta sando" and the "Turkey provolone pesto". All are served with their spicy chips made in house, which were a bit too salty but delicious. The fresh baked focaccia was perfect! Ordered the tuna sandwich with currants, arugula on focaccia - expecting an average sandwich , but it was packed with flavor and tender creamy chunks of tuna. The focaccia was perfect -slightly crisp and golden on the outside and chewy and semi tender inside. The quality of the focaccia and depth of flavor achieved for a humble tuna sandwich makes it worth the 17 dollar price tag in my book. Vegetarian Arancini - risotto fried ball of wonder stuffed with cheese and artichoke hearts and swimming in a pool of house made red sauce was magical. Good structure and good flavor. The Vegan chocolate chip cookie is my kind of cookie! Chewy and just the right amount of salty and sweet. The arancini special I ordered was perfect for a rainy day, cozy and warm and the best tomato sauce I've ever had. The bite I tried of my husband's sandwich was tasty, crispy chicken and fresh arugula on house made bread. He's a real meat guy so he wanted more chicken but was otherwise satisfied. Fans of lemon will love the bombolone stuffed to the gills with whipped lemon curd but was almost too much filling for me. Kiddo got a brownie dusted with powdered sugar (it has an Italian name that has slipped my mind) and gave it an 8 out of 10. The chips were also probably made in house. Notably crispy and crunchy. The olive oil bread was also great. Good amount of softness, some sweetness but not too sweet. Nice buttery sort of taste. I first tried Sebastiano's at the 2024 Urban Gleaner's Summer Supper. They served a stone fruit salad. It was one of the best salads I've ever had and I was obsessed. I spent the last month trying to recreate it. I finally made it to Sebastiano's today. I'm giving 3 because the sandwich filling of the Muffaletta Sebastiano was absolutely delicious. Minus the olive oil dripping down my hands. So yummy. The price is too high for the portion for sure. The bread was a bit too dense and had the delicious toppings wanting to slip out the back because of having to bite down so hard on the bread. I've been searching for a delicious cannoli since visiting NYC in 2005. This is not it. The shell is way overly fried, tastes burnt. It should be a light-dark golden, not this dark. The ricotta filling was lumpy and not as airy and way too sweet. My favorite currently is from Nicoletta's Table. I really enjoy the orange zest throughout the filling there. Skip the cannoli & go for a sandwich. Lastly, I did not care for the chips. It felt like too much of the same flavor [very salty] along with the sandwich. A Dill Pickle or something Fresh like a little side salad would really compliment the sandwich better. Or give it as an alternative option. I probably won't be back unless I happen to be in the area, I might try a sandwich with foccacia bread if I do because the other was just too dense. read more

Every time I come to Portland I come here. The sandwiches are so delicious and the sweet treats are so delicious and delightful. On this visit we grabbed a seat outside in the cute patio nestled between other business and took haven under the umbrellas from the warm sunshine. There is plenty of seating inside as well. We no longer live close enough to Portland to make an easy food-run, like we often used to once upon a time, so we haven't had a chance to eat Sebastiano's Italian food and baked things, which are reported to be and look to be delizioso, at the store but we placed an order for some of their products which they ship. It was as good an experience as one could possibly have for easy ordering and fast fulfillment and everything arrived carefully packed. My husband who is Sicilian on both sides (the owners here also have roots in Sicily) and grew up with his immigrant grandmother in charge of the kitchen in his Brooklyn Italian neighborhood home exclaimed, literally out loud, "My grandmother's biscotti!" when we opened the package. And sure enough, the traditional style made hard enough to benefit from dunking in coffee, espresso or van santo.The mandorle cookies, almond paste based, were also delicious and since I'm not able to eat gluten they worked for me to enjoy them too. If there was a cookie bit of disappointment it is that the Regina cookies, a fav of my hubbys and widely available in the Italian bakeries of his childhood through young adult years, were much smaller than expected based on photos and not at all the same texture that he was used to buying and bakes himself from time to time. Sebastiano's Calabrian chili salt is tasty and has a place on the tray on our kitchen island next to the Jacobsen flake salt. My favorite of the group of things we bought is their marmellata d'arance, orange marmalade of sorts, that is one of the best citrus marmellatas I have ever used, Italian styled, just sweet enough and not bitter like some. I bought two jars and wish I'd bought half a dozen more. This is literally a young "mom n pop" business by a couple who relocated their family from New Jersey (once our stomping grounds too in the early days of our marriage until we were transferred to San Francisco) to open a business in Portland. If you love supporting those kind of entrepreneur efforts, this is a great business to choose. read more

Food is solid. But forcing your customer to 'tip' an automatic 20% so your staff can 'make a living wage' is lazy bookkeeping. It's not even a tip at that point. I propose you do away with tips, and raise the prices by 20% then actually pay your staff a living wage. If I want to tip for great service, I can do so. You're admitting you're not paying your staff enough, and you expect the customer to do it. The typical counter argument will be that you want to keep the prices down, on an already expensive menu. I would argue that it's not sustainable business practice if you can't have it affordable enough for people to want, and be able to pay your staff a living wage. Set the prices to what they need to be, so your staff can have a wage. Then I will decide if I want to pay those menu prices. Thumbs down from me. read more

Came for what I heard to be a great sandwich but was disappointed. We had the signature Muffuletta that does come on sesame bread like the original NOLA ones do, but the portion was pretty small for the price (quarter of a small round for $15) and the Giardiniera is not as flavorful as it could be. For a great sandwich, try Dos Hermanos bakery on SE Stark. The chopped Italian on sesame has double the flavor and double the size. read more

Sebastiano's is a bit quirky - a small selection of sandwiches, a small selection of prepackaged items (marmalade, olive oil, salt), a small selection of baked goods, and only open at lunchtime 4 days a week (Wed - Sat). Also appearing at the neighborhood farmer's market down the street on Sundays. The good news is that it's completely worth having to remind yourself to check the calendar and the clock to visit these wonderful people. There were two of us on my recent visit. We split that day's sandwich special - a Sebastiano's Hoagie, and it rivalled anything I ever had growing up on the East Coast. We also split a fantastic rustic fruit tart, and each had a wonderfully cold Italian lager. Another of the quirks was walking up to the dutch door out front, checking out the posted menu and the goodies on display in the window, ordering, and then walking out back to the festive patio seating set up in a corner of the parking lot. Not a typical dining experience, but I wouldn't miss it for the world. read more

3.5 stars. The people taking orders at the door on my two visits have been very friendly, they seem like new employees so hope it lasts. The big turnoff is the 20% markup that's mentioned on their site, but not when they swipe the card. At least they don't call it a tip like some entitled places. From a business perspective, the concept is flawed and borderline money grab disguised as something else. That said, the popular eggplant was just okay as was the limited pizza by the slice. The small family Italian vibe and pleasant backyard seating are pluses. The high price points don't match the product so no more visits. However, they seem to be attracting a positive following so I'm happy for them. read more

Wow. I've had Italian sandwiches before, but none like the vegetarian muffaleta I just had here. Started thinking I just didn't like any outside caprese now that meat is off the menu - but this changed my mind. Absolutely incredible. And the experience of sitting outdoors in the most European corridor I've seen yet in Portland with a latte from the place next door in the sun is wonderful.
