Review Number 500 For as long as I can remember, the Seahawks have been a part of my life, sometimes more than others but always there. From the early days that featured names like Zorn, Largent, Krieg, and Warner to the current crop of young talent like Wilson, Lynch, Sherman, and Thomas, no other organization in the city has been able to draw the level of passion out of its fan base better than Seattle's own NFL franchise. When the Nordstrom family owned the team, there was an expectation of success that kept the good times rolling for a very long time. Unfortunately, they eventually sold the Seahawks to a man named Ken Behring whose primary goal wasn't to win championships in Seattle, but to relocate the team to Los Angeles where he felt more money could be made. After a failed attempt that actually got as far as having trucks filled with all the organization's belongings on the road and ready to roll, he ended up selling the team to one Mr. Paul Allen, one of the famous founders of Microsoft, an avid sports fan, and a man who cares deeply about preserving his Seattle roots. After saving the team and working with the city to custom build a stadium that would rival any other building in the league, Mr. Allen set out to bring back the glory days of success that some felt may never return. After a run of success with coach Mike Holmgren and Pro Bowl caliber players like Matt Hasselbeck and Walter Jones that culminated in one of the most heartbreaking and gut wrenching games in sports history, it was time to reshuffle the deck once again. After a few mediocre seasons ended with less than desirable results, coach Pete Carroll and General Manager John Schneider were brought in to create a new culture of winning by installing a philosophy for how to build a team that had never been seen before. Over the last four years under Carroll and Schneider, the Seahawks have been controversial, eye opening, and sometimes shocking not only in the level of success they have achieved but by how they have achieved that success. In four years time, there have been over 1000 roster moves and an endless line of players have been brought in that no one else wanted or that other teams thought weren't good enough. They brought in guys that were supposedly too short, too tall, too skinny, too slow, not experienced enough, too young, too hard headed, too quiet, or just flat out not good enough. In each of these players, the staff saw something special and took advantage of those qualities to get the most out of the talents they do possess. Let's talk about the "12th Man" for a moment. While not officially part of the organization, the fan base is as much a part of the team as any of the players, trainers, coaches, or front office personnel. We are the loudest, most passionate fans in all of sports and the Guinness Book of World Records will even provide proof if needed. The number 12 has become a symbol of unity not only amongst the fans, but between the fans and the players themselves. Every member of the team will tell you they owe their success in some part to the 12th Man and not one person anywhere could ever convince them otherwise. On social media, they communicate with and give shout outs to the 12th Man. Pete Carroll refers to them every week in interviews and post game press conferences. The Seahawks have done a wonderful job of finding a way to brand what it means to be a fan and to make it part of the overall experience for anyone that wants to join in. When the 2013 Seattle Seahawks training camp began, there was so much hype and expectation for a team that had been less than a minute away from competing for the conference championship the year before. The front office added players where they were needed most and what some considered the most talented roster in the league was ready to make a run at a title they had never before been able to claim. While my prediction of an undefeated season would ultimately fall by the wayside, there was no shortage of reasons to think they couldn't take that final, elusive step to championship glory. As the season began to unfold, it was clear this was no ordinary football team by any stretch of the imagination. They won in ways football teams are not supposed to win and with players who aren't even supposed to be there. On the rare occasions when they did lose, the other team walked away victorious, yet still feeling the sting of facing a team that left every possible ounce of talent and energy they could muster laid out on the field of battle. During the team's two home playoff games, things got very exciting and the earth literally shook thanks to a rumbling "Beastquake" or a hit unleashed by the "Legion of Boom". There was now no stopping this team on their way to meeting destiny face to face and, when they finally did, they put on a show so amazing and so complete, it would go down in history as one of the greatest ever. CenturyLink aka the Clink is pretty awesome! Entering from the south entrance and going up the grand stairs is amazing. I am definitely a fan of the Seattle Seahawks. The views are phenomenal from anywhere in the stadium, but I think the view is a little better if you are sitting on the east side of the stadium, because you will get the city view on your right. The Seahawk's games are crazy! So loud inside the stadium, it's insane. Tickets are really expensive, due to back-to-back super bowl appearances. So if someone you know is selling them at face value, jump on it. Well, don't get the nosebleeds seats. I've done it once, and it is not worth it. You can barely see the players. We can rate our sports teams?? Uh-oh, M's, you'd better hope I don't make my way to you! The 116-win M's loss to the Yankees. The #1 seed Sonics loss to the #8 seed Nuggets. The '05 Hawks loss to the Steelers in the Super Bowl. The departure of the Sonics. The passing of Dave Niehaus. The denial of sale of the Sacramento Kings. The list goes on and on... It's really hard for me to explain to anyone who finds it impossible to understand why I love sports so much and why I let it affect me the way it does. For better or for worse, Seattle sports brings out the best and worst out of me. I'm the loudest in the room, causing a raucous, losing my voice, bruising and hugging anyone near me when we're winning and I'm the quietest, grumpiest, most butt-hurt individual sitting in the corner of the room by themselves whenever we lose. For whatever reason, it means so much to me. Maybe I'm living vicariously through these athletes. Maybe I can relate in some microscopic way whenever I play flag football or a pick-up game of basketball to the joys and pains of winning and losing. Maybe I understand the comraderie and family that is built around sports. Maybe I have left in awe at the power of a group, a city, a state full of people who for a moment in time forget anything and everything that separates us from each other, and all that's left is a shared memory. And maybe, these men and women who play these sports are our representatives of the place we call home. Where our family, friends, work, identity is shaped, we cherish and want this place to be known as the best, and the last thing we want is anything or anyone giving us any reason to doubt that in any way. For whatever reason, I love sports and, for every reason, these Seahawks embody every reason I love sports. A coach with a reputation for cheating. A quarterback too short to succeed. A cornerback dismissed as unworthy even by his own former college coach. A running back that is completely misunderstood. A pedestrian wide receiver. An MVP no one has ever heard of. Each man, to a T, embodies the word family. Without a doubt, we can nitpick at each player and point out their deficiencies and inabilities, but where one man lacks, the other fills in that gap. Maybe I'm completely naive to all other championship teams in the history of sports, but in my brief history on this Earth, I have never witnessed a team so bonded that no matter what obstacle impeded them, they bulldozed over it together without flinching. They defend each other. They tell each other that they love each other. They act likes fools together. They lose together. They win together. And above all, it wasn't solely the men on that roster that won this championship, but they purposefully brought in the entire state, and the fans worldwide, to be an integral part of making this first NFL championship happen. Unreal. I could go on and on and on about my love affair with Seattle sports and especially these Seahawks, but I'll stop my gushing here. It all sounds like mush, sappy, and over-romanced, but I can't but love the power of sports and its ability to unite people; when done well, can make strangers into neighbors, enemies into friends. Thank you, Seattle Seahawks. You've put to rest all the hurt and disappointment of the past, given the people of WA another reason to be united, and made me cry in front of my girlfriend. (Who, btw, I dedicate this season to because she's not even from WA and really suffered through a lot of my ridiculously emotiona swings only to watch me bawl like a baby when we won the SB. I've been a Seahawks fan since day one, having been born here, and having lived most of my life here. I was around for the 78 and 79 Sonics, the 95 Mariners, the original Sounders (who made it to Soccer Bowl 77), the Kemp/Payton version of the Sonics, and all the Super Bowl teams. Never (IMO), in the history of Seattle professional sports, has a team captured the imagination, hopes, and dreams of the people of Seattle, the way that this version of the Seahawks has. My friend is a huge SeaHawk Fan and dragged me there so she could get a shirt from the pro shop cause it wasn't the same buying from one of the millions of stores that carried the same jerseys in Seattle. She got mad at me when I walked in the door and asked where was the stuff for the 49er's . Not a 49er's fan like most people from Hawai'i are but it was worth seeing the look on her face. I made 4 payments on season tickets,$2090.00 from my bank account directly to the Seahawks and I can prove it! Knowing they were now paid off I happened to inquire as to why I haven't recieved them, they told me they sent them to someone else! I asked to whom and they said it was someone in Texas. I told them I want the tickets or I want a refund, then they asked me if I authorized those 4 payments. I said yes with the asumption I was getting the tickets! They told me I would have to sue the other party that is out of state! I suggested that they just refund my money and make those tickets invalid. I went to a Seahawks home game and got just the product I was hoping for - a win! I've owned season tickets for a while, but haven't lived within a 1000 miles of the stadium for over 7 years. I only manage to get to a couple games a year, so when I go, I want to see a win. This year I went to the home opener against San Francisco , and my expectations were high, but I knew it was not going to be easy to deliver the customer service I was hoping for. Low and behold, the Seahawks delivered for me. Despite being faced with some weather challenges, the Hawks came through. With a 5-0 score at halftime, the Hawks could have just locked the game down and let me leave with a win, but apparently head chef Pete Carroll had other ideas. The Hawks served up a delicious pairing of Touchdown Ala BeastMode. I'd like to offer a special thanks to the customer service specialists also known as the Legion of Boom, they combined for three interceptions, including a terrific desert offering from Richard Sherman. I can say without a doubt, that the Seahawks are Seattle's best choice for customers looking to watch a winning game. I should note though, that customers seeking a quiet experience, with less emphasis on a win and more about a relaxing, intimate setting and privacy, might want to look elsewhere, perhaps a Mariners game. read more
