Picture this: you're finally moving out of an old, moldy apartment (one where your POS landlord never really took your complaints seriously, despite mold growing on the walls). Last thing to move out of the truck to your new place is your mattress. You notice a dark area under the mattress cover, remove the cover and BAM, covered in mold. Completely ruined. Your friends mention the Seattle Mattress company which is gloriously a half a mile away. Enter Tony, who patiently walks me through all the benefits (and flaws) of each mattress, let's me test out multiple mattresses multiple times while I wait for my husband to return from the dump (where our old mattress was headed) with the rental truck. Not only did he show us great customer service, but he also gave us a very comfortable rental to use until our mattress could be delivered, which saved us from sleeping on an air mattress for a week. He also arranged for pick up of the rental with delivery of our new mattress! So lucky this place (and Tony) were around when we needed them! read more

I came to this store because most of the reviews were good. The owner paid attention to what I said, didn't try to upsell me things I didn't want, and found me a great deal on a Serta that was on sale due to fabric or overstock or something. It did take two weeks, because mine was a special order, but the delivery was on time and the guys were nice. If anyone I know says they are in the market, I tell them to start here. read more

After shopping the mattress district in Northgate, we went to Seattle Mattress Company in Ballard and found good prices and selection with a great salesman. After shopping there for 30 minutes, we knew we'd buy a bed from there, and after one more visit, we decided on a fantastic one. Bottom line, it was the best mattress shop we visited. read more

Conveniently located in Ballard, we were really excited to stay out of the big box, overpriced mattress stores and talk with a salesperson who knew his product well. We also didn't have an enormous mattress shipped from who-knows-where to Seattle--they're made in town! Fortunately they are a small (one-man?) operation which only suffers from lack of organization. My 3-piece unit had to be delivered or redelivered with 3-trips, all of which were clearly a lack of reading the already succinct invoice. In the end, however, we like the mattress and it was reasonably priced. If you are hit with a touch of bad service and can suffer it, it is probably worth it. If not...then it isn't. read more

Don't go here, ever. The story I'm going to tell may not be over yet and I'll update this as it develops, but I think we may be out of options unless this business cleans their act up, appologizes and gives us a new bed. I paid $2536 for their most expensive latex mattress, latex topper, box spring, and protective cover. 30 days later, the bed was already sagging heavily where we sleep. 60 days later it begins to get very uncomfortable. We are not large people. After about 70 days we go in to the store and tell them our story after not getting far by email. Our theory was that we had a defective bed. However, we didn't want to lose our comfort guarantee. We weren't willing to swap it out for a new bed and risk having the same issue. Based on the photos, the manager at the Ballard store, after much discussion, agreed to swap out the mattress and extend the comfort guarantee 30 days. He suspected it was a mattress issue rather than a topper issue. Not sure how he can determine this from photos of the bed, but we trust his judgement. 20 days later, it appears as though it's likely the topper that was the issue, because it's no better. We were pretty much done with our latex experiment at that point, so we went in to look at options to replace it using the comfort guarantee. I start testing out beds, while they look up our purchase details. That is when the Ballard store manager says that when they received our last mattress, they measured the deformations and it didn't meet warranty replacement measurements. He also said that he called us to inform us of this and that he was not going to extend our comfort guarantee as originally agreed to. We received no such calls. He proceeds to call me a liar in the store and says he can tell by observing how upset I am about the situation. He says I wouldn't be so upset if I were telling the truth. I tend to think it's the $2536 for a bed that hurts my back and him going back on an agreement that would make me upset. Being called a liar just makes me more angry. The conversation degenerates to a point where he threatens to cal the police if I don't leave the store. He says he feels threatened. After all, I'm a 5'3" female. I can be very intimidating. Really? The police? At this point I'm too upset to have a conversation with him. Not only is he sticking me with a bad bed, he is questioning my integrity. I leave. Do yourself a favor and don't go here. They are nice until the deal goes bad. Then they become ugly and deceitful. The owner of this store better do something to turn this around. I don't see them surviving these kind of experiences. read more

Pro: Nice folks Pro (big!): I needed a bed (frame/box/mattress) quickly, for an expedited move-in of my father to an assisted living arrangement. What I needed was not in stock. They provided & delivered a loaner at no extra charge while mine was being built. Con: Delivery mixup - only the mattress arrived. Pro: They remedied the problem next day. Con: The loaner frame was standard, the loaner bed was TwinXL (which is the size of what I'm buying) - my 81 year old father (for whom this was ordered) just about hit the deck when he sat at the foot of the bed and nearly flipped the mattress. That's a primary sitting spot for him. No resolution for that until.... Con: Having bought a TwinXL bed, and having experienced the loaner bed/frame mis-match, figured I'd better ask, "What frame am I getting?". Yep - standard length. Had to specifically request XL - which they will order (come on now...). Finding this out so close to the stated delivery date will likely force a change - in order to have the whole set delivered together. Would I order from them again? Well, my new experience helps - though since these guys specialize "you'd think" such troubles wouldn't happen. But, if their prices are competitive, I like them enough to probably try again. read more

I am so glad I only bought an unusable pillow here. It cost me $70 but saved me the $1200 to $2000 I would have paid for the mattresses I was considering. The pillow has a terrible smell. I haven't used it. They will not allow me to return it. When I got home and unzipped the pillow's package it had a strong smell and I thought it might need to off gas. I have had it in the fresh air by day, and set aside at night, not using it. After 5 days it still has the smell and as I person with severe migraine I can't and haven't used it. The "test" pillow had no odor. I called to find out about returning unused merchandise. They clearly inform customers that they must buy a mattress cover to exchange mattresses but say nothing about other merchandise. The fellow I spoke to on the phone said it was an organic pillow and would have nothing that could produce a smell. I could bring it in and if they agreed the pillow had a smell they would exchange it. I said that people with migraine can be made sick by organic things like peanut butter and tried to say we are bothered by odors that other people can barely detect. Since I hadn't used the pillow and it did not smell like the one that was available to customers to sample, I asked why I could not get a refund. My fault, I didn't read the very fine print on the receipt I was given AFTER purchase. When I protested (without any yelling, abuse or foul language) I was told to: "Go eat some peanut butter" as the assistant hung up. Unbelievable. There are plenty of online stores where you can shop and return bedding items for a full refund which I had to do once - no problems. I like to support local businesses and small retailers but when online retailers stand by their products with better service and with no abuse, why go to the hassle of driving across town in Seattle traffic to support small businesses that treat their customers like this once the sale is made? read more

Found this place using Yelp and I'm very pleased that the other reviewers were quite accurate. I knew I needed a mattress but I was dreading the process of trying out a mattress and being shepherded around by someone saying, "oh you should try this one." Seattle Mattress was really laid back, no pressure, helpful when asked, and very reasonably priced. Delivery was soon, prompt, and friendly. I wanted an efficient experience and I got it. The mattress we got is great, and if it wasn't they have a generous exchange policy (but it doesn't seem like we'll have to use it). read more

A quick anecdote about my experience at this business... My boyfriend and I are on a budget, so $1,000+ is a lot of money for us to spend on a mattress set. We talked with the sales lady about buying a mattress there and then purchasing the box frame and metal frame on Craigslist, since those don't make too big of a difference in the quality of your comfort. She was patronizing, discouraging and annoying. We pulled a Larry David, "I think we're done here," and spent $600 on a mattress somewhere else. The next day, I found a box frame and metal frame on Craigslist for free, and it was originally purchased for a few hundred dollars. That lady was a jerk. read more

Steve was so helpful (and made me actually lay down on the beds, which made me feel silly, but also made my decision much easier) and he was incredibly professional. The mattress I picked was in stock, and delivered within only a couple days! For free! Both gentlemen who delivered the bed were very polite, and navigated a rather tight corner with poise and expertise. My girlfriend and I visited several stores, but returned to Seattle Mattress because of Kayla's non-pressure, nice and very helpful sales' approach. I picked out a bed that I am sure 95% of people would of loved, but it ended up not working out for me. Kayla and her manager were very helpful with me not only getting the exact right bed and the exchange process, but also with getting my money back on the price difference between the two. I was looking for a twin mattress for my young son (his first bed). I had a great experience shopping at SMC. Steve, the salesperson who helped me, was pleasant and engaging. As we talked, he showed me some choices that met my criteria and price range. He also explained some of the brands that the store carried, including their store brand. I ended up purchasing a mattress on the spot. I got a great mattress at a terrific price and had a pleasant shopping experience (no pressure and no hovering salesman). I have never shopped for a mattress before. It's an expensive and awkward endeavor as you lay on mattresses in front of strangers... But this place rocks! The salesperson was great and really made me feel at ease as I flopped onto every mattress in the showroom 5 times. He did not seem annoyed that I needed to run around laying on all of the mattresses multiple times until I narrowed it down. I also was there during the summer sale- boo yah! I spent $1600 on a King size mattress and I feel the price was really fair. I expected to spend at least $1000 on a mattress. Supporting local business is really important to me and I was thrilled that the designed and made their All Natural mattresses here in Seattle. Since I was close by, they delivered the mattress for FREE!!!! The one annoying part was to get the 90 day exchange program, you must buy your mattress protector there.. Definitely more than you would spend anywhere else, but there was no way I was going to not be able to exchange the mattress if need be. All in all, I would 100% buy my next mattress there and recommend to anyone looking for the mattress of their dreams. read more

When I first went here to buy a pillow made of natural materials and no off-gassing the manager was very helpful. Unfortunately for me, the pillow, made in Canada, has a zipper for the cover and twice in the night the zipper lock failed and I got a deep 6" scratch on the back of my upper arm. When the zipper unlocks you get to very sharp pins cutting your arm or could be face. When I brought the pillow back the manager said we don't take returns and I'd have to contact the company in Canada for warranty. He said no one has ever complained about the zipper. The most unnerving part of this exchange was that he and his assistant were rude, didn't care about customer service or helping me with my problem and became very defensive ushering me out of the store after a unpleasant argument. These sleaze bags are typical of a low rent retail mattress store. They get yo to buy with smiles then don't warranty or support what they sell. i won't buy there again! read more

I had a great expirience in buying my bed from their 15st location, I purchased a ecofoam memory foam style bed. It was great the first few months, then we started noticing a considerable dip in the center of the bed. $1000 dollars for a bed that lasted seven months. Here is my problem: the manager blows me off after I visit the store twice exchange ten emails with photos of the obvious depression. It's been a month and still no answer on replacement or resolution. Steve's store is less than a mile from my house and hasn't offered to come by and look at it. My sister has always bought beds from sleep country and wanted me to go there but i insisted in doing business with a local company. After purchasing my bed from Seattle mattress my girlfriend and sister went to sleep country and purchased a headboard and footboard simply cause seattle mattress didn't sell them. While shopping there my sister was asking questions about the bed she bought from them 4 years ago and stated that it was not performing as she expected anymore. Within one week a rep from the company was in her house inspecting the bed and concluded it was a warranty issue. One week later she had a brand new bed free of charge delivered and set up. I am done with Seattle mattress and won't recomend them simply because of the manager and not their product which I feel is up to par. Does anyone but the box stores know what customer service is anymore. read more
