I found this place on accident, as it isn't technically open to the public -- or at least not without an appointment. Either way, I found my way in and Brandon was very helpful. He showed me a great many pieces that would've worked for my needs. Several of the items were unfinished, pre-restoration, etc., but he was able to effectively walk me through their processes and help me to imagine what the end result would be. These guys are really passionate about what they do and it certainly shows. Just picked up a wonderful settee/loveseat from these folks. I cannot remember a better experience in purchasing furniture. We saw the settee listed on Etsy, and they bent over backwards to show us the piece and helped us load the furniture. There was a deep and thoughtful caring involved in the packaging for the piece given the rain and transportation method. That definitely expressed the love they put into each piece of furniture. A happy repeat customer. I bought the most beautiful table earlier this year from Madsen Modern, and used them for some restoration work. They were fantastic experiences! I've bought furniture from 5 or 6 different dealers in the Seattle area this year, and I have been super satisfied with the experience with Madsen. I called in and set up a time to come by their workshop - I was looking for a dining table and hutch. They have some furniture that is ready to go out the door, and a lot more that hasn't been restored yet: if you choose and buy an item, they'll restore it and you'll get in a few weeks. I went with the latter route: they took a generous amount of time showing me their inventory, including demonstrating how each table extended or stored its leaves, and pointing out any areas that they would repair or restore if necessary. I ultimately chose a table that I wouldn't have chosen on my own if they hadn't taken the time to expand my horizons. They turned around the restored table within a few weeks. The end product is PERFECT. The finish is period-appropriate and pristine, the wood's natural beauty is on display, and it looks incredible. The table opens smoothly and easily. They did such quality work, and I'm so in love with it. I didn't find a hutch, but at my request they've been reaching out to let me know when they get a new one in in the style I've described, so maybe I'll end up with a hutch from Madsen as well. Most recently, I've brought in some of my own furniture for restoration. They described the restoration options and their respective prices, and we discussed which options would give the best result while staying in my budget. Exactly what I wanted, and I'm very happy. I have a couple of more pieces that I plan to have them work on at some point in the future as my budget allows. We've purchased two different items from Madsen Modern and have been so impressed both times. The pieces looked brand new (headboard and small display cabinet.) We also feel like Madsen repairs and refinishes their furniture in a historically appropriate way. Beautiful! Oh, and the owners are extremely nice and accommodating. We are local, so are able to pick up the furniture vs. shipping it, and have enjoyed our interactions with Brian and Brandon. I have furnished an entire house full of mid century modern furniture and have never quite had an experience like the one I had with these guys. The guy that they had deliver everything was also in charge of assembling the sofa, and he had to actually borrow my phone so he could look at a photo of the sofa to see if he did it right. Then they forgot to send the cushions to a sofa. I was told they'd be shipped 2 days later, then 5 days later, then 4 days later. Very unorganized. Then I tried to return the sofa because of a disagreement in measurements, and they wouldn't budge an inch. Even if I paid the $600 for shipping, they wouldn't accept the return. They said they'd cut me a piece of foam. Anyone who knew anything about this $2000 sofa wouldn't dare stick a piece of foam under it. Trust me I'm no furniture snob, but it's always best to deal with people who have a genuine passion and take pride in their work. Don't bother with these guys. It's rare to have a completely positive experience with a business, but Madsen Modern has created that for me. I found them after browsing craigslist and etsy looking for some midcentury modern chairs for my living room, after realizing that family was coming in for Thanksgiving in 3 days and I still had nowhere for them to sit. I found some beautiful Grete Jalk chairs and was able to see them almost immediately. They loaded one up for me and stored the other until we could get it. When I decided I wanted the sofa as well, they delivered it, set it up on my 2nd floor, and moved my other sofa to the garage for a fairly minimal fee. When front rail broke after a month and a half (it was a 50+ year old sofa), Brandon came to my house the morning after I contacted him, took the rail away, fixed it, and had it reinstalled the same week. The Madsen brothers are helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and have curated a gorgeous inventory. I highly recommend them and hope I'll have an excuse to use them again. read more
