I was working in Seattle and needing to get back to the Gig Harbor area. With the freeways looking even more gridlocked due to an accident, I decided to try out the ferry. It had been decades since I had been to this ferry terminal. So my review is simply from a car point of view. The signs were very well placed on how to get there. I later learned they really needed to be placed well due to all the construction on the Alaskan Way Viaduct and having to reroute the routes to the actual loading bay. So it was easily found after driving down Alaskan Way and making a quick left turn. Paying for the ferry was easy enough and queuing up in the loading bay was simple and easy to follow. Nice enough attendants to point you in the right direction. Looking forward to seeing how the whole thing changes after the reconstruction that's happening not only on the Viaduct but also the ferry terminal. read more

This has happened so many times now I felt the need to right something... the staff here is so awful at directing traffic both getting on and off and directing you to the correct lane after ticket bo, they really need to get their acts together. Update 3/31/20 if I could give the ferry service any worse rating I would... they are constantly changing the times the ferries leave and that's no big deal if they left when they said they would! I've been late 2 days in a row now, today it was suppose to leave at 5:35 so I got here at 5:28 and it left at 5:20! If it was suppose to leave at 5:20 don't post 5:20... Update 6/24/20 it's just getting worse and worse, I got a notification that my truck was idling at the terminal for "45 minutes" and my "exhaust is too loud" neither the decibel level or length of time of my truck idling is accurate, I waste my money with your service because I have to and if I could I would never use any ferry service again. read more

First off, bathrooms here can be a little rough and they're not always entirely stocked with toilet paper in the stalls (which also have SCARY LOW DOORS, like you literally make the most awkward eye contact with a stranger while they're urinating. On our stroll to Pier 52, we caught the ferry which can accommodate passengers, bikes and vehicles specifically to Bainbridge Island. If you know me well, I'm deathly afraid of being seasick and there was zero rockiness on this stable ferry which had seating inside and outdoor. I took advantage of the inside bench and noticed they had a snack shop and more importantly, electrical outlets. Once we reached Bainbridge, the short 5-10 minute walk to the heart of the city where you can explore the boutiques, eateries, wine tasting and museum filled our afternoon on this island. The cost is $8 per passenger while departing Seattle and no cost from Bainbridge back to Seattle. We saw many commuters and tourists by the end of the day. If you have a clear day in Seattle, take advantage of the ferry and look at the back drop of one the best cities in the US. read more

First time taking the ferry on a trip to Seattle. Wanted to ride solely for the scenery. We drove on and the cost was $24 for the vehicle & 2 people. We had a choice of going to Bremerton (1 hour) or Bainbridge Island (30 min). We decided on Bainbridge.. Ferries run from 5:30 in the morning until late, but check schedules due to construction. After we parked, we went upstairs to the passenger deck. It has huge windows for enjoying the spectacular scenery. Oh, and it's climate controlled! There is a small cafe and lots of vending machines. The ferry was clean and the bathrooms weren't bad at all...definitely cleaner than on an airplane or sporting event. read more

After riding the ferry for the past 6 months as a walk on, it has grown on me as my favorite transportation. They still have kinks in the system (see below), but as a walk on I don't worry about any delays or issues with the ferry. It's normally on time and gets you there on time. It can be rocky during storms and the fog can be scary because you can't see a foot in front of you. However, the views are beautiful. There's coffee and snacks on the ferry. The bathrooms have outlets if you need to curl your hair in the morning. There is also kiosk with brochures about Washington if you are a visitor or want to explore the area. The ferry can be cold so bring a jacket. It is very busy during mornings and evenings with commuters during the week. I have heard that some cars don't make the ferry during rush hour because the ferry does fill up fast. PREVIOUS REVIEW (Still True): This location does not have Orca reload options- but Kitsap does. The ferry is a great way transportation option, but they make different rules for different locations. This is very disappointing that one ferry terminal would have different services. read more

It couldn't be any easier to get on the ferry. The only downfall is the construction on the street before you turn in. But it's extremely quick, you pay for your ticket, follow the signs to where your destination is & you wait to board the ferry. The ferry itself is great! Cleaner than what I had expected (especially for the bathrooms) & plenty of space to get a good view of Seattle. We went on a Sunday so it was pretty jam packed, but it didn't feel crowded when we were moving around. Price seems a little high to ride, on the way over they charged me for my car & my passenger (which was my 6 year old) & it ended up costing me over $20 one way, but it was worth it. What a gorgeous day & a fun time in Bainbridge (until we had to wait to get back on the ferry to come home...). This week was the first time I've been on the ferries in about 20 years - I forgot how amazing the view is! This terminal isn't too pretty due to the seawall construction, but it's still quite functional. The two ferries to Bainbridge and back were both well kept and clean. A quick walk around the cafeterias revealed a multitude of choices, alcohol included. Vending machines are also available. Need a quick getaway from Seattle? The Washington State Ferries definitely allows that! For $6.50, you can walk on, enjoy a 30 min scenic ferry ride to Bainbridge Island and their downtown is minutes away from the ferry terminal. Or for the same price, you can take a one hour ferry ride to Bremerton. Its great for those days I need a quick change of scenery but I'm not in the mood to pony up the money to rent a zipcar. On rare occasions, there are opportunities for orca sightings which is cool. BTW, avoid buying food inside the boat. Its overpriced and tastes horrible! Guess I love using the ferry in Washington! Probably one of those great experiences taken for granted by most people, but I surely love the scenery on both the wonderful 30 minute to Bainbridge Island or 1 hour to Bremerton. There are a few spots that you can grab a bite or drink at before your ferry. There is a coffee cafe that has those last minute items, coffee, tea, alcohol and even advil/tylenol in case you need it. There is also a new ice cream creamery spot that is perfect for those hot summer days and lastly the bar attached to a cafe is always a great stop with good prices and some good food. You only have to pay leaving Seattle but not coming back into Seattle. There is an option if you travel frequently to purchase a 10 pass at the window, which comes out to around $66 for the pass, instead of the ~$9 fare individually. Seniors only pay ~$5. Lastly, you can also use your Orca card if you would like. read more

If your immunocompromised I would strongly advise against riding the Seattle ferry. They do NOT enforce the mask order nor do they take any steps to sanitize seats after passengers get off and new ones get on. I'm appalled, actually, at how many people took their masks off immediately after getting on board and not a soul said anything to them about it. There were at least 100 people on board and at least 60% were without their masks in their seats. They also do nothing to enforce social distancing prior to departure in the terminal. People are always literally crammed into a tiny room standing nearly shoulder to shoulder--I always wait outside. I can't believe this is allowed to continue. These were just a few of the people sitting on one level near by where I was sitting. But like I said, when I walked around at least 60 percent of the passangers were unmasked for the duration of the trip!!! read more

This is where you catch the ferries to Bremerton and Bainbridge Island. It is located on Pier 52 Colman Dock at the intersection of Yesler Way and Alaskan Viaduct (Alaskan Way). It has a nice but small food court which has a Subway, McDonald's, and independent coffee shop. You can also purchase your ferry tickets at the counter across from the Subway. It is reasonably clean and the patrons are normally friendly (for Seattle). Security keeps the place free of misfits normally. I would rate it higher if the food court had better selection of local chains or businesses with higher quality food. The ferries are in decent shape though the food is over-riced and of poor quality in terms of ingredients and selection. The seats are pretty comfortable and almost any seat has an excellent view of your trip. The ferry is good for getting nice wide angle shots of Seattle as it's returning from either Bremerton or Bainbridge Island. It takes about an hour to get to Bremerton from Seattle where you can visit the Kitsap Puget Sound Navy Museum and a cute but small harbor shopping experience. Don't forget to visit the Harborside Park next to the museum. The cost I guess is reasonable though it seems to go up at least once a year. read more

Pricing is always better to walk on, since you only have to pay leaving Seattle, not coming back. Street parking around Pike Place is $2.50 an hour and then it's a short walk along the waterfront to get to the ferry terminal. My last car (Mercedes SUV) never liked the ferry ride and the alarm would go off every time I left it to go upstairs. Not sure why. I would have given it a 5-star rating however there is a $5 minimum at the restaurant on board and most items are in the $3.50-4.50 range, meaning you will have to spend closer to $10. Take the bus here and you've got an easy ride around the sound to whichever island you want. Bainbridge Island is the closest spot at only 35 minute ferry ride. The other islands are there but will of course take longer. At $8 for a trip, its definitely worth it. While you're on the ferry, go grab a cup of Ivar's while you're at it! Easy to get on and find a seat or even go outside to catch the Seattle skyline on the way back to port! read more

If you want to forgo the expense of a commercial Seattle Cruise but still want a water experience, then the Washington State Ferries is a great alternative. I bought a round trip ticket to Bainbridge Island for $7.10 (walk on passenger - no car). I was able to snag a seat on the upper deck and take pictures of the Seattle coast line from water perspective. The round trip ferry ride was ~ 70 minutes long. We had to disembark in Bainbridge and then re-board. I didn't take time to explore the town but that is also an option and catching a later ferry back. The ferry itself has all the comforts you could need for a short ride; bathrooms, snack bar with hot and cold food, plenty of seats inside and out. Tons of seating area and we started out on the top deck, but was way too windy so settled inside. Get here at minimum a half hour early before your ferry time. Washington state employees do a remarkable job in keeping the machinery of getting folks loaded and off-loaded very promptly. Roughly a 35-minute ferry ride to Bainbridge Island from Pier 52 that is located very close to the CenturyLink Field and Safeco Field venues, the Washington State Ferries offers meals and beverages at a reasonable cost on the upper level of the vessel. The cost one way is just over $13 and change, so be prepared to pay a little more than $27 for a day trip back and forth across the Pugent Sound. For those passengers that prefer to take naps in their vehicle like I did, please be mindful of others when you walk between vehicles or open your doors. Its a bad feeling to see a car or person get door-dinged due to the close proximity of where and how the cars are parked on board the vessel. read more

It had perfect views, an amazing amount of seats, indoors and outside. It had a great restaurant too. I would suggest more bathrooms as i was in line for about 20 minutes just to use one. All in all, super affordable and fun. Even though it is a ferry, i would defibitely take it again just to take in all the views. You get to see the perfect image of Mt. The Ferry - affectionately termed the "Ferry boat" on Gray's anatomy is a fun way to great across the water and kill 2-3 hours. Runs about $15 for a car one way and is $6-7 to walk on from Seattle to Bainbridge or Bremerton, though it's free going to Seattle. On a nice day in the spring/summer there are some spectacular views and it's worth the price of admission for the hour and a half there and back. Bainbridge is a nice little town with a fun, artsy downtown - a good place to kill an afternoon! If there are big lines, it's take about an hour and forty five minutes to drive around to Bainbridge or around an hour fifteen to get to Bremerton through Tacoma and Gig Harbor and ultimately takes about the same amount of time if you have to wait for a ferry cycle. The food on the ship is cafeteria quality, but works if you just need a snack. There are plenty of vending machines and a number of arcade games to pass the time. Internet is pay per use and a monthly pass is around $10. Feels like it should be included, but they never asked for my input. Overall, it's a solid way to get over the water from Seattle and back or just to ride to say you've done it. read more

It works, it does what it's supposed to do with astounding efficiency and very little drama. Ferries are on-time and almost exactly on schedule on both sides. I'm still amazed that that many people can *drive onto a boat* and it can go so smoothly. BUT, I traveled for 11 days all up and down the West Coast, mostly without a car, through all sorts of delays and inclement weather, and by far the most harrowing, difficult, and unreasonably longer-than-expected part of the trip was driving *ACROSS THE DANG STREET* to get to the ferry terminal. It's a congested, confusing, construction-constricted mess that promises to be disastrous for anyone's vacation getaway. It was so bad in fact that we missed our ferry, despite being there fairly early, and had to catch a later one. Although that wasn't so bad, because they run frequently, so don't stress, you'll be find :D read more

This was my first experience on the Seattle Ferry and I was amazed at how efficient the whole process was. From the time we paid the attendant to the time we were directed off the ferry it was smooth. Catching the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton is also a nice change of pace from the city streets and driving. The ferry itself is pretty quick as well. You don't really realize how fast you're going on such a bit vessel but by the time you relax upstairs or eat something from the concession or even finish reading a few chapters from your book you're reading you're already being herded to get ready to drive off of it.
