With the recent opening of the expansion of the 2 line going to Lynnwood from Redmond, this Westlake Station (like all the other stations in downtown Seattle) now services both the 1 AND 2 lines of the Sound Transit Link system. This means that one can take one train without transfer from here to Bellevue and Redmond, crossing Lake Washington on the world's first light rail pontoon railway. My wife and I took this route while visiting our daughter and son-in-law in Bellevue, and the crossing was a routine non-event, just like it is supposed to be. My last review for this station was 2 years, at which time, only the 1 line serviced this station. Because of the way they designed the routes, the inclusion of the 2 line was seamless, requiring no station outages during the transition. My only small gripe is the signage at a major connection point at the center near the elevators, still only shows the 1 line (with its stops at the airport and university), instead of now the opening of the entire East side of Puget Sound area, accessible via the 2 line. It's confusing for visitors...better just to state that lower level is for Sound Transit, instead of explicitly naming each line, if they don't want to change the signage every time. Another big addition that occurred earlier this year (Feb '26), is the use of tap-to-pay (using a tap enabled payment card to pay for fare at the point of entry) at all stations and bus lines (like NYC and London has). We still ended up using our preloaded Orca card this trip, but can discontinue that for future (unless taking the Monorail, which still requires an Orca card). Transfers are free for 2 hours from the first tap (excluding the Monorail), with initial charge being $3. There are no gates, with the pay stations being intentionally out of the way...it really is about the honor system to tap. We also used Westlake station as the transfer point to get from the monorail on the 3rd floor of the Westlake shopping center down to the lower level where the station actually is. Connecting to the 1 line, we got to Sea-Tac airport station in 41 minutes (though from there, it's quite a walk to get to the terminal area). read more

So this is a major hub station and named after the most obvious point nearby - Westlake Shopping Center - with its accompanying plaza (often free events and music here), major shopping, and major hotels and dining. This station has had some safety issues in the past so I don't frequent it as much as I would if it weren't for that concern. read more

Easy to navigate your way in and out, feels safe, but have only used dying day hours. The light rail altogether has been wonderful for getting too and from the airport. Saves me some $ from not taking the Lyft I sometimes have to rely on. Light rail is on 4th floor of the airport garage with a lot of walking to it depending on where you exit, but it's all covered and we'll lit with no crossing streets or getting down into street level traffic. read more

Five stars for Seattle having public transit that is reliable and generally safe. Possible improvements: entering/existing the station can be a bit daunting. There are a lot of folks hanging around outside, maybe doing things that they shouldn't be doing in public. Where I generally stay in Seattle is equidistant to Westlake and Symphony; I'll generally walk to Symphony, but you can't beat the overall convenience of Westlake. 2025: 26/100 read more

Kinda shocked at the stations they have here. I come from NYC where the subways is everything for us. The transition here is pathetic but it is what it is. This station is okay compared to the others. Surprisingly clean for it being in the heart of the city. There's not a lot of benches to sit here at this station. The escalators aren't bad and there's enough to avoid overcrowding. There's not enough signage to show where the exits lead to on the street level. read more

I was at a Kraken game that ended at 9:45. By the time I got to the westlake station to take the lightrail home it was around 10:00 pm. I understand that it's late but I needed to use the bathroom. I was told by a worker that they were all closed. I then had to wait 15 minutes for the train to come which included a very uncomfortable and painful wait for me. I know the city is understaffed but I would appreciate bathrooms being open later on game days, as this is a basic human need. read more

This is a pretty decent way of traveling from Seattle to the airport! I didn't want to pay for an Uber because the distance looked pretty far and Rideshares just have so many extra fees nowadays so it would have put me an extra step closer to being broke. To find this station you will look for the mall that has Nordstrom and Saks on Fifth. You can go in the mall but I found it pretty easy to go in from the external entrance that goes directly to the station to get to the correct entrance, you will follow the signs/directions to go to the MONORAIL, but you will actually be taking the LIGHTRAIL (specifically line 1 for airport). Once you do, you will go DOWNSTAIRS where you will reach a spacious floor with machine on the wall to buy your ticket. Follow the prompts to decide what kind of ticket to buy. You do not need a plastic card, it will let you buy a paper ticket. Once bought, you go downstairs once more to reach the lightrails. To check if you are going in the right direction, look at the electronic signs above to see where the lightrail is headed. For the aiport it will either say Airport or Angle Lake which head south. The other side would say Northgate which will go somewhere north. The lightrails come pretty frequent, every 8-10 mins in the morning. Tickets are super cheap as they are only $3, and they will take you all the way to the airport in approx 40 mins. If you need further help, you can go upstairs to the Monorail area where there are some attendants and they can help answer any questions. read more

It smells, but it'll save you $70+ on a ride to the airport. The lack of elevators to get the the train level is challenging. From street level we had to use the escalator to go down 1 level. Then, I spotted an elevator that reeked of urine, but got us down to train level safely. For $3 per passenger, it's worth the small challenge of not falling face first with your luggage. It's safe, there's security at the station and on the train cars. read more

The best way to travel to the space needle / downtown Seattle area. Always safe and clean. Today , for the first time in many years that I've been riding the monorail, there were two armed Seattle police officers. Also, in the station itself , I saw transit security active and monitoring. I'm glad Seattle is finally taking some steps to address crime and vandalism. At least, at this station. Good sign for sure! It's about $3.50 each way so be prepared to have your orca card or by the ticket at the station it's self. It's a short but nice scenic ride thru downtown up until Seattle center. I'm pretty used to taking public transportation every I go, including international travel. It's a great way to save money and see more of the nitty gritty details of a city or country. Whenever I'm in Seattle, I'm usually staying a few blocks away, so more often than not I'll get on or off the Link light rail at this station. There are plenty of signage that will direct you down to the platform and where on the platform to wait. read more

What a bargain to travel from Sea-Tac airport to downtown Seattle. I wish LA is more efficient to travel to and from the airport like that. For $3 one was the ride is only 40 minutes long. Westlake Station was about two blocks walk to our Motif Hotel and another 7 minutes walk to Pike Place market. I had download the app Transit Go to order our Link light rail tickets to save time. It seems like the train is under an honor system because no one checked my tickets which was a QR code after its activated. We didn't have a car on our Seattle weekend visit and the Link line worked out perfectly. read more

Another excellent underground station on Seattle's Link line, Westlake is clean and well lit and has excellent signage. There are a number of exits and the station is easy to navigate. The usual ticket vending machines and ORCA card readers. The station has a free wifi that works well since you're likely not going to get much of a cellular signal this deep underground. Audible and visual announcements of the next train. Escalators and elevators from platform level to street level. The station is in the middle of downtown Seattle and is surrounded by shopping and restaurants. The famous Pike Public Market is only a couple of blocks from here. It is between Capitol Hill station (to the north) and University Street station (to the south). read more

Westlake Station is in the retail district of downtown Seattle. Lots of foot traffic in this area. It's the station that's closest to Pike Place Market, Westlake Center/Mall, Nordstrom (Nordy's), the Monorail, and the South Lake Union Streetcar. It's an interesting tunnel system in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. It has the platform level, then a mezzanine, then escalators that will take you to the surface. Macy's is gone so there's no more access from the mezzanine. Nordy's closed their mezzanine entrance. You can still access Westlake Center through the mezzanine. Westlake Center/Mall isn't what it used to be. They went through a remodel and after that the mall just wasn't the same anymore. Just like Pacific Place. It used to be busy...not so much anymore. Another change was the convention center's name. It was called the "Washington State Convention Center". It was renamed as the "Seattle Convention Center". Advice for tourists: You may encounter aggressive panhandling. You will see homeless people. I actually witnessed a manager or a loss prevention employee chase down a guy stealing merchandise from a retail establishment. A lot of small businesses had to close because of crime. Walk with a group and don't walk around at night. History side note. The Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel didn't originally end at Westlake. It used to continue on to Convention Place on 9th between Olive & Pine but it closed down. Buses used to run through the tunnel and Convention Place was their turn around point to return southbound. It was also an access point for the Paramount Theater, the WA State Convention Center, and bus transfers. Now you have to get off at Westlake Station to reach these places. read more

This is the main stop that I get off in Downtown Seattle when commuting from the Eastside as it seems is the case for many other riders. For the most part I like the location as it is centrally located with the Central Link and buses from all directions stopping here. The station has street entrances on 3rd Avenue next to Macy's and a Scientology Center across the street. There are also entrances to the station at Westlake Center and next to Nordstrom on 5th Avenue. On rainy days in Seattle, it is nice to walk the pathway below for a few blocks rather than endure the weather at street level. It is possible to walk from Macy's to Pacific Place without walking on Pine Street in fact. This station is larger than the other stations downtown. It has a customer service center that is open on weekdays if you need assistance. Like other stations, they have card readers if you are taking Light Rail. This station is great most of time. Though it can be a pain on weekdays as a backup of buses tends to occur during rush hour. It gets worse when the Light Rail train stops at this station as buses in back of it have to wait until the train leaves the station before entering it. Waiting is no fun here as you can't get a connection to surf the web on your phone or make a call. The signage for Light Rail is also a little poor. There is just a small train sign to designate where Light Rail stops, but it doesn't list the destination. I quite often get visiting tourists asking which direction to board a train to SeaTac when I am at this station. Nevermind the fact that Westlake is the northernmost stop of the current line. Overall, it is a good station as it is centrally located. Though the signage could be better and I wish you could actually use your phone when waiting for your bus or train here. read more

As a person who lives and rides by public transportation, the Link is important for now and the future of Seattle. So I'm glad to have places like Westlake station right under the popular shopping area that downtown has to offer. Since the removal of buses from the "tracks" , there were less crowds than before. Also cleanliness and relative accessibility is okay. However there is one major issue you should know especially if you don't use the link that often. The walls of the station in the upper deck of the station are bare. Which is generally a good thing for public transportation stations but in this case, it doesn't help. Unlike other stations that would showcase the train's path, potentially showcase maps of the nearby neighborhood or give bus guides of nearby routes, it gives nothing. You only get those by heading to platform below. If you made the wrong decision and went to the wrong side of the track, you would have to climb all the way back up and run to the other side and go down. It is not like you can hop and skip across the tracks (don't do that). This is especially bad during the times when the clock down clock to the next train doesn't display the minutes so you have to depend on luck or an external resource to know when it is coming. for That is not great when your train is almost arriving There may be maps in certain entrances of the station but not a notable one in the entrance next to the Nordstrom rack. Of course someone may use Google maps but a) maybe their devices doesn't work underground and b) if it is a last minute decision, a sign would be quicker. Plus, there are now THREE stations that have a name with University in it. I hope they add some form of line maps in the upper terminus of the station soon. It could even be electronic. Riding the monorail to get us from point a to point b. Left the Seattle center to visit the farmers market on pine. There were a lot of venders selling flowers, sea food and everything in between. Stopped in a book store and had the best macaroni and cheese. Then took the short 10 min walk back to the monorail station for our short ride back to the Seattle center. We hopped on the monorail from the Space Needle, not really knowing where it ended up, but just wanted to take a ride with the kids, who think anything on rails is wicked awesome. Sure enough, it ended up at the Westlake Station in less than five minutes. Monorail only accepts cash, so be prepared in case you want to ride. The station has a couple levels of escalators that get you down to ground level, and on the way there are multiple shops to visit if you're so inclined. read more

If I'm being honest, I hate public transportation. I didn't grow up with it and dealing with it for the first time in SF, I learned to hate it. But, I am giving Westlake and the Link 5 stars. I decided to suck it up and take the Link to the airport. I live a little over a block away from the Westlake Station and there was really no reason for me to spend $20 on an Uberpool which you never know how long that will really take. The Link was $3 estimated to take 40 minutes and at 8:30am, it was surprisingly empty going south. I'm glad I gave it a try. I will admit to taking an Uberpool back home from an exhausting trip but getting to SeaTac was a breeze on the way out and I'd definitely do it again. read more

Westlake Station is a Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel Station located in Downtown Seattle under Pine Street between Third and Sixth Avenues. The station is served by Sound Transit and King County Metro buses and Central Link light rail trains. The station will serve as the northern terminus of Central Link until the opening of the University Link extension around 2016. This is where Gayle and I ended our Light Rail trip from SEA-TAC. We were heading to Victoria on the Clipper and our relatively short walk to Pike Place Market and Pier 69 would begin. It was all very straightforward, although the smart phone was handy is advising us which way to walk once we got outside. We almost delayed that departure as the Westlake Center is here and there was a Nordstrom entrance within the Station. read more

Located just below Nordstrom, just a short walk from the Grand Hyatt Hotel is the entrance to the link rail that will take you to the University in less than 10 minutes or the airport in about 30 for about 2.50 each way. Trains run every 6 or 10 minutes, depending on the time of day. Such a deal and so convenient, plus the station was super clean and very easy to navigate. read more

Dude, any station that stops at the mothership of all Nordstroms is the best station ever. The location is spot on, as it drops you off in downtown Seattle, so I love taking the bus here from Bellevue. It's such an easy shot for me since it's a direct bus line on the 550 from downtown Bellevue to Seattle and given that you can just pop into Nordy's once you're at the Westlake Station has served to be beneficial or dangerous. It's also walking distance from this station if you plan to walk over to Belltown or Pike Place Market. Also, there have been instances where I've gone into Seattle and need to get home late at night by myself, so I really like that there's transit security officials so late into the night at this station. read more

Another transit tunnel station tucked in the middle of Seattle. This is the last station in the tunnel you can still ride a bus on at the time of this review. If you're on the light link, then you're next stop is Capitol Hill, so if you're not ready to go further, get off at this stop, although you can probably walk back down the hill to here faster than waiting for a bus. This location frequently has some marginal characters peddling drugs and religious paraphernalia at the entrances, so proceed at your own caution. This station puts you in the heart of the shopping district above, so you can get your Nordstrom fix before you even smell the city above. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure why we don't have coffee stands in these stations to make more money on passing tourists. Overall, not a terrible place to catch a ride, but most of the time I end up walking past here to get on a different route. There are often protests and other news worthy activities happening in the square above this station, so be ready for anything. read more

There is a customer information counter for tourists who have questions about the buses and routes. The link just celebrated 5 years in operation and it's a great connection. Buying a ticket at a kiosk is easy with debit, credit, or cash. This station itself has some really neat architecture. Even though it's not even forty years old, it channels the depots on the East Coast and Europe. I'm not too sure if that was a deliberate but they did a good job of not making it generic. If you build a downtown station, it must have that vibe. read more

This is the main station I use for the light rail. It's nice that it is so close to the main part of down town. You can come out by all the major stores and a few restaurants. It is nice that you can almost find some sort of security or police nearby which makes it feel safer than some of the other stops. This is the last stop from the SEA-TAC airport and drops you off under the Nordstrom building. I really like this because it drops you straight off into downtown and it's a pretty cheap ride into the city if you're on a budget. Out of all the underground stations I've been to, this is an incredibly clean one and is very easy to navigate around based on signage. And honestly, in peak rush hour, this may make a lot more sense than taking a taxi! read more
