I've taken NYC metro, SF Bart/Muni, and Mexico City Metro; those cities are much larger and have had their systems for decades, gotta say Link holds its own and is smaller but very mighty. I've taken the new 2-line and 1 Line to and from the airport. I really hope they build it out to completion! 100% Clean and safety officers on 90% of the rides I've taken so far.

Took the Link Rail from downtown Seattle by Pikes Place Market to the Sea-Tac Airport and it was a piece of cake. Very easy to navigate and get from one place to another. The stations and rail car themselves are very clean and well kept. Busy enough that you feel safe. Only took us about 35-45 minutes to get from Pikes Market to the airport, and it only cost us $3 per passenger one way! What a bargain. Can also go the other direction, from the airport to wherever you need to go. Highly recommend!

We had to get off at Sodo Station because our train malfunctioned. A replacement came in 10min.

I used Seattle's Light Rail for the first time after arriving at SeaTac on the morning of the 30th. There is ample signage to direct one to the terminal and purchasing a ticket is easy. Why didn't Honolulu use this system as a model for its Skyline system? The cars are fast, quiet and the line runs above ground, on the ground and underground as needed. I was impressed on my first ride and more so on my second. On September 3, my train malfunctioned heading into Sodo Station so we all had to get off and wait for a replacement. It didn't take long, and we were on our way in less than 10 minutes. Three dollars for a one-way ticket ... It's a steal.

Prepare to board -- things happen fast!

We utilized this transportation service to travel from SeaTac airport to near our hotel when we arrived in Seattle. Very convenient, affordable, fast, and user-friendly. Glad we didn't need to bother with a rental car or ride share service to easily accommodate our travel group of 5 people. Would be happy to repeat the experience.

There's a lot to unpack here! The Link is a convenient mode of transportation, and the prices for a round trip from Angle Lake to Lynnwood are reasonable. The trips and stops are quick, which can be both good and bad. However, I am concerned about its cleanliness. Its popularity is understandable, especially if you don't mind the presence of homeless individuals. There's also a very distinctive, unpleasant odor that pervades the area, so be cautious of that. Additionally, the schedule is often affected by mechanical issues, resulting in wait times that can range from 15 to 45 minutes. The fare ambassadors are very active, so make sure you've paid before boarding. Overall, using the Link gets you to your destination without the hassle of sitting in traffic, saving both time and money.

It's newer on the trains are mostly clean. They have bathrooms that are actually clean transit police so it's very kept together and I do recommend.

CONVENIENT $3 TICKET (4.25 stars) Seattle... not bad! For their first light rail built up I do feel local tax dollars have gone to good use. Although not as developed and comparable as other major cities public transportation, it will do! Instead of paying $30+ to get from downtown to the airport, everyone and their mama suggested taking "the link" to the airport for $3... YES, $3!!! :: DOWNTOWN TO SEATAC AIRPORT :: - Take the "Angle Lake" line (south) - Frequent departures and arrivals - $3 ticket to the airport - 12 stops - Drop off at the airport but on the other side of parking structure and only a few minute walk What I've learned... 1) You cannot buy tickets in advance at the machine as those tickets are ONLY GOOD FOR 2HRS. 2) There are websites and apps to find schedules but Google Maps had everything. I selected the route via light rail and it gave me all the details 3) Westlake Stop didn't have escalators doing down, only up in the morning hours. Only way down was by steps or elevator. Mind you, elevator smells horrific. Urine, poop, what have you. Not much choice if you have luggage. 4) it's about a 40 minute ride BUT why did it only feel like 15 minutes. Time on the lightrail goes by quick and you enjoy the view through downtown, Chinatown, sodo, and south Seattle areas. 5) Nobody checked my ticket. There was no gate that reads your ticket entering the station or exiting. It wasn't very well regulated. It was pointless to buy a ticket - might as well ride for free. Hope they expand with more lines. I think this is a great addition to Seattle especially that Seattle blew up from what I remember this city to be.

The map. Pretty hard to get lost.

Let's see: a ride from the airport to downtown (or from downtown to the airport) cost me $3 one way. Not $30. 3 dollars. The train was clean, quiet, and fairly quick. I think the ride to Pioneer Square, just south of downtown, took about 35 to 40 minutes. For 3 whole dollars. It's a fairly scenic ride, too. I didn't need to take an Uber. I didn't need to rent a car. Purchasing a ticket was simple. In most cities, you must drive to the airport and then pay ridiculous prices for parking. Or you take an Uber or taxi for a hefty fee. You don't know how good you have it if you have luggage and can train it to and from the airport. For 3 bucks.

This means that one can take one train without transfer from here to Bellevue and Redmond, crossing Lake Washington on the world's first light rail pontoon railway. My wife and I took this route while visiting our daughter and son-in-law in Bellevue, and the crossing was a routine non-event, just like it is supposed to be. My last review for this station was 2 years, at which time, only the 1 line serviced this station. Because of the way they designed the routes, the inclusion of the 2 line was seamless, requiring no station outages during the transition. My only small gripe is the signage at a major connection point at the center near the elevators, still only shows the 1 line (with its stops at the airport and university), instead of now the opening of the entire East side of Puget Sound area, accessible via the 2 line. It's confusing for visitors...better just to state that lower level is for Sound Transit, instead of explicitly naming each line, if they don't want to change the signage every time. Another big addition that occurred earlier this year (Feb '26), is the use of tap-to-pay (using a tap enabled payment card to pay for fare at the point of entry) at all stations and bus lines (like NYC and London has). We still ended up using our preloaded Orca card this trip, but can discontinue that for future (unless taking the Monorail, which still requires an Orca card). Transfers are free for 2 hours from the first tap (excluding the Monorail), with initial charge being $3. There are no gates, with the pay stations being intentionally out of the way...it really is about the honor system to tap. We also used Westlake station as the transfer point to get from the monorail on the 3rd floor of the Westlake shopping center down to the lower level where the station actually is. Connecting to the 1 line, we got to Sea-Tac airport station in 41 minutes (though from there, it's quite a walk to get to the terminal area).

It takes about 3 minutes to travel between, costs $4 per one-way ride, and operates every 10 minutes. My wife and I took it twice during our one night trip to Seattle, and it was a good way to cut off a bit of a walk traveling from/to the airport and our hotel located at the Seattle Center. The monorail system was built in 1962 to take visitors to the World's Fair, which was being held at what is today the Seattle Center. It consists of 2 parallel single rail tracks, each with one train. After each 3 minute journey, the conductor has to walk the length of the train to get to the other forward facing 'locomotive' car, so there is a bit of time between the train arriving and the train leaving again (in the opposite direction). The two trains (Blue and Red) can run concurrently (often during high traffic times like during a Kraken hockey game), but I've only seen one of them run at a time. The space between the two tracks are where people boarding the train must wait, entering this space using an Orca card (tap-to-pay has yet to be implemented). There are no discounts for transfers to other Orca enabled transit. There is one seat on the locomotive car right next to the conductor, providing an unobstructed view facing forward. Would highly recommend doing that if riding it for the first time. It was my 4th time riding, but 1st time on that seat. Spoke to the conductor a little, and learned that for her, it's 42 round trips a day during her shift. Also noticed that the train passes right by the upper level windows of the Hyatt House hotel, so imaging guests in those rooms could get a cool view of the train as it zipped by.

It may have been a random fluke, however, my first experience was a disaster at best. After riding 2 stops on the 1 Line, we were all instructed to get off at Ranier Beach stop as there was some sort of police activity prohibiting us from riding further and we at this point were asked to cross the street and wait for a shuttle. About 10 min later, a shuttle arrived however not everyone could fit so this shuttle was jam packed with people! We were told that this shuttle would take us to the Columbia City station and from there, the 1 Line would resume. As it was traffic hour when this all happened, shuttle was slow moving, so probably another 20-30 min later, we arrived. A train was waiting for us and after that detour, the ride was smooth all the way to my destination. I made the mistake of getting off one stop before I intended, so that added another 10min to trip, completely my own stupid fault. So a trip from the airport that should have taken a little under an hour took close to 2 hours for me. Was an interesting experience and for $3, I really shouldn't complain. I also saved my company $100 but also wasted 90min on public transit. And time is money. I think this might have just been a little bad luck and a less frequent occurrence, but it definitely made me not want to take this form of transit ever again. They do get one star because when I mapped it out on Google maps, there was clear warning there was a delay and detour. It was just my poor choice to take a chance and see what happens. However, if the opportunity presents itself again and there were no issues with the Link light rail, I might consider this option again.
