I purchased my ticket for the way back as I arrived from Kingston in case there was a line. People line up on the ramp sort of Willy nilly. Leaving room for people to get off the ferry. Edmonds Terminal is one of the few ferry gateways to the peninsula. I have tried both drive-on and walk-on experiences. There is nothing extraordinary about this terminal. Walk-on passengers can enjoy the views of the water from the walk-on ramp. Terminal amenities include benches, vending machines, restrooms, and a literature stand featuring brochures on experiences around the the Puget Sound. Walk-on passengers can purchase the tickets via the kiosk by the door or at the ticketing booth. Boarding tickets can be scanned for entry at the automatic ticket gates just past the ticket booth. I recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before departure. Drive-on passengers may have a longer wait depending on the waiting ferry traffic. Though the terminal may not have some desirable food options, there are nearby restaurants for anyone looking for a bite to eat. The city of Edmonds street signs direct you along 3rd Ave. S. to Pine street to get in the queue for the ferry. Anyone can look at Google maps and see the signs on their street view pictures. We entered the ferry lane on Edmonds Way at Pine St. Pine St has no left turn onto Edmonds Way and Edmonds Way has a solid double yellow line making it impossible to get to the end of the ferry queue legally without driving all the way back into town and finding a different route, not sign posted, to actually get to the end of the queue. Multiple other cars both in front and behind us made u turns over the double yellow lines to get in the ferry queue, one car pulled in behind us from the "local" traffic lane. None of them were turned around, we were the only ones singled out. I suspect they saw our Canadian license plates and figured they could stick it to the Canadians which would confirm what we hear in Canada about American attitudes towards Canada. Very poor signage on the part of Edmonds City council. On driving past Pine Street the second time, they had installed portable barriers, not there and not in evidence when we drove down it the first time. What a sour taste as our first interaction in the USA because of such poor directions. We were also overcharged at the toll booth. We very clearly stated we were 2 seniors plus the car. We are both very obviously seniors. We were charged for one senior, one full adult fare and the car. We did not realize till later that we were ripped off. Loving This Mode Of Travel! SITREP Coming from Sacramento, CA, it is rare that I get an opportunity to travel across the water on a ferry. For me this is a fun, relaxing trip while on vacation, going between islands. THE SETUP Up visiting my friend Jenner and we are just lackadaisical in our day's routine. So after stopping off at some restaurants, cafes and bakeries, the ferry beckoned to us! After purchasing a round-trip ticket, it was an interesting process of waiting in line for the arriving ferry to unload and then allow us to get on. The *same* for the other side since we merely went only far enough down the gangway until we could stand in line again for the return trip. All we wanted to do was ride the ferry, take some pictures, talk to the seagulls and get some concessions! *DONE* :D THE LOWDOWN It was a great short romp, feeling the sound's breeze go through our hair and land on our faces with it's cool delight! read more

Twice I have tried to use my orca card app on the readers and the turnstile hasn't opened despite money being deducted. The app clearly shows the date, time, location and amount deducted. An extremely combative, rude, and disrespectful ticket booth worker has refused to address the problem and stated it's not his job to assist me with a clear technology problem (the same worker). To be clear things happen and glitches occur. That is NOT the reason for a 1 star review. The 1 star is for a belligerent worker refusing to perform his job and assist customers. He's lazy and incompetent. I'm sorry but you are a toll booth worker and state employee, your job is to assist riders with issues and report problems etc. This guy has a problem with doing his job and besmirches government workers! read more

Edmonds Ferry Terminal it's not only a faster way to get to the peninsula, but the experience is a great way to spend the day. The ferry is approximately $20 each way, when you're on the ferry you can get out your vehicle, walk around the ferry and look at the water and scenery. It's very convenient and can save an hour or more of driving to the peninsula. The crew was extremely friendly and helpful, and the scenery was amazing. I love ferries! Especially the Washington State Ferries and the ferries to the Outer Isles in Scotland. Beautiful views and fun to watch for different wildlife on the rides. The Edmonds Ferry Terminal has been revamped and traffic lights are used to indicate when it is time for your holding lane to load. There is a Top Pot Doughnuts and a few other restaurants nearby in case you are hungry, have someone in the car who can get food, and are waiting. The workers at the toll booths and on/loading the ferry are friendly, clear, and efficient. I have come through here in vehicle and on foot and haven't run into any difficulties except very long lines on occasion when traveling during the summer. Once loaded on the ferry, it is fun to get up to the ferry viewing deck and get a look at Edmonds before take-off. It can be a bustling town at times and fun to see what is going on. read more

Were to start, I guess sitting 45 cars behind the guy that was behind me in line, happens more often then not where you have very slow ticket booth people and efficient ones, the slow ones are more common, there's no rhyme or reason to how they let people on the boat ,I don't know how it's even been functioning for as long as it has!!i commute 8 times a week via 2 different terminals, it's fair to say I'm an educated person when it comes to riding these boats and they run this show same as they did in the 80's when I first started riding these boats. Now let's talk about this the dumpster fire they call an app.... I can't even explain in words how useless the app is, it literally does not work by anyway shape or form!!!!!! Now I can see why the staff is always in a foul pod to everyone because everyone is pissed at their lack efficiency, sadly I have to be apart of this well rusted machine due to work so I'm stuck, there is no Customer service to speak of an had I called what would I say? The ferry terminal itself is pretty ordinary but the ferries have fluctuated in scheduling since the pandemic began. I'm always running to the ferry in hopes that I will be able to get to the other side in a decent amount of time. Sometimes they add boats at the last minute but it's hard to know when staffing issues will be resolved. Hopefully this will get fixed soon! read more

This was my very first trip on a ferry.. woohoo! We took the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston back in August and this was a great first experience.. from lining up the car and then driving onto the ferry in neat little rows.. parking the car and then running upstairs to enjoy the scenic view and having some Ivar's chowder.. My only complaint? It was too short! I am sure the commuters don't mind that it is a quick voyage across the Puget Sound.. but we were hoping for more downtime. By the time we were halfway through our chowders we realized that Kingston was coming up on us FAST. We chowed down our food, watched the ferry hit the little plastic bumpers helping guide it into Kingston.. then we tossed our trash and got back to our car just in the knick of time. Make sure your in line to board at least 30 minutes early or you will be waiting for the next ferry, we were the very last car allowed to board and we arrived 20 minutes before boarding we cut it really close. It was a quick and easy ride across the sound, we spotted a whale coming up several times beside us which was super exciting and an amazing bonus. Clean spacious and convenient, we always enjoy each ferry ride we've taken WS does a great job with their ferry system. 20" vehicle and 2 adult passengers was $21.00 time saved to get to the 101 is so worth it. read more

Washington State ferries' staff are efficient, and friendly. My entire brood loves riding the ferries, although I wish that they would improve or provide better cafés on board (short or long rides). Hubby and I recently used the Edmonds/Kingston ferry and drove to Port Angeles to catch the Black Ball ferry to Victoria, BC. that was a first for us. We parked our car in a Port Angeles garage with much hesitation, but relieved to find it intact after coming back. I hope that BBF would build a secured parking garage for ferry passengers to use. Port Angeles had other parking lots but were a bit sketchy. Overall, if you're from out of state enjoy the Washington ferry system, quite enjoyable. read more

there was an older woman working the kiosk on 05/25/24 at 9:00am who was incredibly unkind and unhelpful when i was trying to get to my partner's car after he was waiting on the terminal. she didnt give me any directions or help as to how to get to the cars waiting, her response LITERALLY being "oh well." when i finally got to my partner's car to board she LITERALLY radioed one of the men working the terminal to make sure i got a ticket and after i went back and got one at one of the machines bc i didnt want to deal w her again she radioed again to have them make sure i got a ticket bc i got my ticket "too fast" (i literally overheard her on the radio). imagine having nothing better to do on a saturday than be a sour old fart who tries to police young ppl bc youre miserable. congrats! you got me, and now im writing a review about the crappy experience. read more

This ferry spot goes from/to Edmonds to Kingston. It's a nice, smooth ride. The employees know what they are doing. Gorgeous view any time of the day. You can feel like you're completely away from the world. Great pricing! Without a vehicle, the prices are $8.20 for an adult passenger, $4.10 for kids and 65+. It's $105 for a monthly pass. Prices vary with a vehicle based on how big it is. For a 4 door sedan, it's $14.30 counting the driver. read more

I don't know what others are complaining about?! All the info. they provide are obvious. Our responsibility is to know how to utilize them. Call if you must ahead of time if you worry about time like i do especially, when I have planned my trips beforehand. I make phone calls, I check out the sites, I look at pictures. I hate getting lost or getting left behind too. They have a specific schedule on a day to day basis and I think we just have to believe and work as a team how to make the schedule happen! Times are given, please give yourself some ample time to get ready. Pack what you need to pack, know where to get your tickets, your kids tickets, know or for goodness sake, call, ask questions especially if you have an important agenda or things to do, or where to get your coffee - whatever! I think that's all there is to this! Show up before the Ferry leaves you! I don't honestly think the EFT people want to mess with us people of Edmonds or visitors. We all have a schedule! The Edmonds-Kingston ferry is great for those who don't want to brave downtown Seattle traffic. Edmonds is a small, sleepy town north of Seattle. The terminal is large, well laid out and easy to access. I took my vehicle across midday on a Wednesday for the price of $16.50. There was a line of cars there already and a steady stream still arriving. It seems like the first-timers might chose the midday hours to come across, so be on alert for disoriented people. Personally, it was my first time coming across and apparently that of the two, little ladies behind me. I had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting them after they tapped my car's bumper with a kiss from their car's bumper. Luckily, no one was injured including the cars. The personnel working on the ferry were good at directing vehicle traffic so you knew where to park. Signage on board made it easy to find yourself around to the viewing decks inside and out, the bathrooms and back to the car deck as well. Everybody talks about how WiFi is available on board. Be aware that the Boingo WiFi service is not free. It really is only worth purchasing and setting up if you are a regular commuter. The ride across the water is too short to get it setup and in use for just one or two trips. read more

Always friendly, drama free and fast experience. I will say the prices are a little steep. Example being for one car driver and passenger $25. (Which if you're on a tight budget and you don't mind an extra maybe 1 1/2 hrs added to your trip, you may just want to spend $10 on gas and drive around.) Food and beer a little pricey too once upstairs, but by the time you get upstairs order get your food sit down and finish, its time to go back to you car. So I usually just wait it out in the car and grab a beer on the other side. Depending on the day and time I've never had longer than a 45 minute wait for the ferry. read more

The ferries are a necessary evil with only a few bright spots. The view from the passenger deck is amazing, and the men's room sausage in the galley is to die for (rather expensive, but some of the profits go to the Fisher House, so it's bearable). Some of the folks who work here are kind enough (particularly at the ticket booths), but mostly I just get yelled at. When driving into the holding lanes, I frequently get told to go into lane # by the people at the booths, and then berated by the people directing traffic at the front, "you were supposed to be in THAT other lane!". (If management wants to contact me, I can provide receipts and dash cam footage showing these events). When you drive onto the ferry itself, you'll be told to go in 2-3 different directions. I'm at the mercy of the next individual to spot me and decide to yell at me, telling me to get into a different lane (to the traffic directors; we're essentially looking down a tunnel of light. You can use angry gestures at me all you want, but you're standing in front of me with glaring light behind you, I cannot see the motions you're trying to make until I get MUCH closer to you!). All in all, it's an awful experience, but better than driving 4-6 hours around the water. Advice for administration: it all boils down to communication. These folks aren't talking to each other, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. It causes a LOT of chaos and heated tempers among all parties involved. I don't know the solution, but when I follow the directions of person A, and then person B gets angry because I'm not doing what THEY want, it feels like the system has much room for improvement. read more

This the biggest clusterf&@k I've ever seen. If you google Edmonds Ferry Terminal it tales you right to it. The only problem is, in order to get on the ferry you have to drive miles back up the road. There are almost no signs. Then by the time you find the right road, seven hundred other cars have to. I got on Kingston-Edmonds ferry. I didn't take my car with me because I was just planning to walk around for an hour or so and come back to the ferry to go back. It was $8.65 round trip. Never rode any Ferries in Washington state before. They are super organized and even have decent restrooms to use while waiting in the lineup to board. Just make sure you listen for the boarding announcement to get back to your car in time. Restrooms also available on the Ferry itself . On a nice day which we had this Ferry is a fun and beautiful ride too. Our wait wasnt too long about 35-40 min but I heard that during heavy traffic times or sea conditions the waits can be as long as two hours. We were traveling off peak times so waits weren't that long. Can be a little pricey but senior rates are decent and smaller vehicles/ less people are a little less$$. You can also travel as a walking passenger or bicycle passenger. Cool views from the top decks. Bring a jacket though air can be nippy. read more

Our ferry system is dysfunctional. It is the Governor's, senators, every elected local officials fault. Not only are the ferry's understaffed ( I'm sure the job sucks) Who ever manages scheduling needs to find a better suited job for their skill level. The boats have been falling apart for years and no governor has thrown enough money their way. Maybe they should all live in the San Juan Islands instead of 2 blocks from their jobs. The website is horrible!!! I just had surgery and looked everywhere online to find out where I needed to go with my Doctors form for boarding to make my appointment and coming home after my surgery. Nothing except , if you are on time for a ferry you will loaded, basically hand your form signed by doctor to the person in booth. We arrived at Edmonds ferry line at 5:45 hoping to make the 6:15. Line was very long. Now 6:49 made it to booth, woman said gee wiz you could have driven to the booth up front near the boat and maybe made the 5:45 ferry ,sorry. We live in Sequim, left at 8am to catch a 9:30 appointment for lumbar surgery scheduled at 12:15. Should make it home by 9pm if the boat doesn't sink. In pain, hungry not happy at all. Governor wants to spend $38 million dollars for a new destination state park in Sequim. Gee, I wonder how easy it's going to be during summertime for all these huge gas guzzling RV's to make their way onto a ferry to visit a once beautiful forest, destroyed for profit.
