    Sitting in line

The seagull situation is a little extreme but on the other hand the pigeons are no where to be seen. Largely great, honestly the tea you hear from other cars is the best in on the island. I got to hear someone breaking up last week 100/10 would recommend if you wanna feel better about your life.

I feel compelled to write in about an attendant working in your Clinton Ferry Terminal booth (at 605pm on Saturday 28SEP24) this female red hair, approximately 50-70 years of age (no seeable name tape). This attendant was hostile and unprofessional towards myself as a rider. I attempted to complete my round trip on the Clinton Ferry and was denied my spot and sent to the back of the Ferry line to wait another 40 min for a ride due to stranger (with no relation to the my ferry trip) lying about line placement. While pulling up to the booth this stranger passenger ran in between my vehicle and the booth and was entertained by the female attendant in question. After the strangers remarks I was sent to be turned around when asked why the attendant said I violated the ferry line (which I did not) not even hearing my rebuttal to these dishonest allegations as an equal stranger in this attendants eyes the attendant called me a liar (with no proof), and maintained a disrespectful tone with unclear instructions or reasoning. After complying with the attendants instruction and at return to the terminal for now a second time the attendant was once again hostile and rude for no reason. I am a fellow public servant and understand the tolls of interacting with all characters of life. However the implicit bias and lack of respect when my concerns were not listened to or even respected are definitely not in line with your industry and or general interpersonal skills needed to support proper public service business standard. I would behoove you to address my concerns before her actions become detrimental to other passengers experience and project negative interacts that are detrimental to your businesses continued success. Working for the federal transportation service is a privilege not a right, Karen!

More than one Washington State Department of Transportation Ferry sails through the Clinton Ferry Terminal. So keep an eye out for the vessel's name while onboard to learn more about the ferry you are riding, its history, and the origins of its name. Seek this information on the Washington State Department of Transportation website if you are eager to learn more about the vessel of your sailing. The Clinton Ferry Terminal is a serene place to wait. Growing up when my sister and I went to stay with my grandparents on Whidbey Island overnight our parents would meet us at the Clinton ferry terminal to pick us up. Our grandparents would bring us here early and we would sit/adventure and wait with each other. Lots of quality family bonding time spent here. This is also a fun terminal to pass through in a vehicle. The holding lanes and unloading lanes have a good view of the water, which gives one something to watch while waiting/unloading. Employees and ferries have all been in good shape when I have come through here. They, yes both people and vessels, know what they are doing and work hard to make sure things are running smoothly for the patrons/riders.

The WA state ferry system truly is a wonder. I continue to be so impressed by the service it provides and the seamless way it runs its ship (no pun intended). My recent experience on this ferry was no different. I had to go from Mukilteo to Clinton, to attend an event on Bainbridge Island, and then return. In the past, the vast majority of my WA ferry experiences have focused on my taking the ferry from Seattle to Whidbey Island; in contrast, I've only been on the Mukilteo to Bainbridge Island ferry a few times over the past 25 years. But this recent trip reminded me how lovely it was, and how well-run and efficient this entire ferry system is. I encountered no discernible wait time when I drove up to the Clinton dock on Saturday a bit before 5pm. The ferry was super prompt and the ride, super smooth. (Unlike the Seattle-Whidbey ride, this particular route is very short - around 15 minutes, really, - so there's no real time to get out of one's car and walk around, enjoy the view on deck, grab a bite to eat. Don't get me wrong, some people did exit their cars to do just that, but soon after they did, the announcer came on to direct people back to their cars. This is one short ferry ride!). The ferry workers run a well-oiled machine here. Very efficient. I like how every detail has been thought out (my car was the last one in and I was directed to park on the ramp going up. The workers placed chock-blocks behind my rear tires to prevent my car from rolling backwards. They really think of everything). Last time I took this ferry, I walked on board and it only cost $5. This time, with only me and my compact car, it cost $22 and change for a round trip. Pricey, but unavoidable this time around. If you can do a walk-on, it's the best deal around

Instead of riding back over Deception Pass we decided to chance the Clinton/Mukilteo since we were much closer and it was getting later in the day. The beauty about the ferry for motorcyclists is it only $4.45 per bike and rider and you get on first and get off first. You get to bypass the long waiting line into the toll booths as well. Trust me it's the only way to go. There isn't much to say about the actual ride other than the boat was clean and offered a galley/snack bar and had clean bathrooms. The passage was quick and painless and we were off the ferry right after the foot traffic. The bonus is it saved us almost 40 miles of travel by taking the water route home.

Restrooms, big information center, it's clean. Ferries run petty frequently during the day, pleasant employees, beautiful view. Once you're on the boat... The ferry ride is pretty quick, you can see Mt. Rainier on a clear day. They even have an elevator for people with disabilities...so I was super excited that I could get out and go upstairs and out on the deck. I think it costs WAY TOO MUCH to ride the ferry...which is why I never go to Whidbey Island for fun...only for work. It was $40 total today for us to cross a ferry....that's RIDICULOUS. Can't beat a beautiful day and a ferry boat ride though!

Yeah, on the weekday try to get to the Ferry before Boeing employees are getting off work or you will have a couple ferry wait. Nothing against Boeing employees just the life of a commuter.

Washington State Ferries (WSF), Kennewick vessel, Friday, August, 16, 2024, 9:30 am. We were on a…read moreroad trip in a Class B RV (which is van-sized), and needed to travel from Port Townsend, WA to Coupeville, WA. In investigating our options on a mapping app, we found that we had two options -- to drive about 215 miles (4 hours, 45 minutes, plus toll) OR take a ferry (about 8 miles, 45 minutes plus wait time). With some apprehension about how it would work with our oversized and tall vehicle, we decided to take the ferry. We made a reservation online about two weeks before our planned trip, and many of the time slots for our preferred travel date were already taken but we were still able to get a slot at 9:30 am. The reservation "no show" fee was $10, charged only if the reservation is not used. We were pleased to find that there was a category to identify our vehicle as being "under 22' in length, and 7'6" to 13' tall." (There are also options to ride standby when vessel space is available). Washington State Ferries has loading down to a science. On our travel day, we were warmly greeted by the attendant at the entrance tollbooth. One senior (my husband) with vehicle under 22' was $15.30, while I was counted as an adult passenger for $4.10, for a total of $19.40 for two people and the RV. After paying, we were directed by staff to park in a specific lane (with other RVs) and allowed to disembark from our vehicle to grab a coffee or use the restrooms. The process of loading the ferry was highly organized. Every inch of space seemed to be used -- without unused space but also without there being vehicles that didn't fit. We were most impressed in seeing how easily an 18-wheeler semi also fit! After all of the vehicles were parked, the ferry left the dock and many passengers left their vehicles to move upstairs for the water views or to grab a snack. Disembarking in Coupeville was equally efficient. Overall, we had a great experience -- smooth sailing, efficient operations -- but also recognize that service disruptions may occur due to adverse weather conditions or emergency repairs. On this particular day, we were fortunate to have saved hundreds of miles and hours of driving, and nice smooth sailing. One small quibble. We found the WSF's website to be confusing for newcomers to ferry operations. .

Also, the guy standing on the curb near the entrance, who informed us of the cancellations, told us that there were no reservations available for any other crossings, even later in the evening. This proved to be completely false, as we booked a reservation five minutes afterward, and by mid afternoon, the winds had subsided enough that we were able to board and cross without any issue. Government incompetence at its finest!

As a result, it's not the most efficient place to hang out - especially in times of covid (though the employees have done their best to map out effective social distancing protocols). The best thing about the Keystone terminal is the lovely beach adjacent to it. It's a great place to sit and wait for the ferry, which is often late due to the frequent fog, winds and/or low tides in this area. The ferry is also smaller here, so the wait times for driving aboard are often long - it's best to make a reservation online to cut down on wait times. If you're walking on, allow time to find parking, which is not abundant (especially on sunny, warm weekend days). There are few services here, except for a couple of vending machines, but (praise be!) there's a real restroom just inside the terminal doors.
