A beautiful and affordable ride from Seattle to Bremerton! For regular adults tickets, it's just $8.35pp from Seattle to Bremerton (but it's also free from Bremerton back to Seattle!)...so...super affordable! In the summer, the ferry leaves pretty much every hour, so you don't really have to worry about which ferry to take, especially if you won't be bringing your car with you. The ride takes around 30-45minutes...I was so distracted by the beautiful scenery that I didn't really keep track of time at all. I really enjoyed the ride and would do it again! Bremerton isn't a big town, but it's a good and quick day trip or a weekend getaway from Seattle for sure! P.S. just the concession is a lil pricey and limited, so if you care to plan, better to bring your favorite munchies with you! read more

Been taking the Bremerton ferry much more often recently due to our good friend moving from Tacoma to Bremerton. As others have noted, this is a very affordable (and low stress) way to get to and from Bremerton. Even at its busiest, there are always spots to settle in and admire the views (and sometimes whale sightings) out the window. In terms of sustenance, we almost always get a local beer from all the options on tap and a cup of Ivar's clam chowder. It's the best! I've also ordered the chili before and it's DELICIOUS. Take my word for it. The best. The pretzels are also good and come with a cheesy dip. The other options, like salads, in the cases and fridge look fresh and promising... I know some Orca cards work for the ferry but not sure what the limitations are. Need to check that out! read more

I have no clue what it's like to commute on this ferry, but I do occasionally enjoy to just grab a ferry and cross the water. Take a walk and maybe enjoy a meal... and then head back to Seattle. There have been plenty of passengers on board every time I've taken the ferry, so finding a seat (especially one next to a spot to plug your phone or laptop in) could get difficult. It's not fancy or especially comfortable, but it gets you from one place to the next... bonus points for it being a journey with great views and a nice breeze! Sometimes it's a bit more than a breeze, however, so I tend to stay inside on those days. There's no "expert" talking about the history or sharing interesting details about the area (like on an Argosy cruise), but the views are great and it's cheap enough to be perfect for a spontaneous (relaxing) outing. The food on-board is pre-made and mostly pre-packaged (exmps: Ivar's chowder, hot dogs, sandwiches, snacks) and apparently it's normal for them to take ONE MONTH to finally process your payment. Also, they apparently serve beer. The old men who didn't want to stop their evening of drinking were very pleased by that fact. ;) read more

A great option if you want to ride the waves but don't have your own boat! The location of this ferry in Seattle is at Pier 52, same as the Seattle to Bainbridge Island Ferry. When the weather REALLY nice and I want to be out on the water, the 29 minute ride to Bainbridge just won't do. Seattle to Bremerton is a nice 60 minute ride so I can really enjoy the weather and get my ferry fee money's worth. Prices are the same after all between the Bainbridge and Bremerton ferries ($14.85 for vehicles + driver, $6.90 for passengers). The ferry itself is smaller than the Bainbridge ferry but spacious enough. A nice leisurely arc past the south end of Bainbridge Island. You don't get much of a view of the naval vessels which lies just south of the terminal. Nice way to enjoy the weather and Puget sound. read more

It's a nice ferry ride to Seattle on a cool December day, about 342pm on an early Saturday evening. Wow, amazing! I love the ferry system that Washington State offers. From the Bremerton ferry terminal, like other ferry terminals in Washington State, there's not much food fare that's offered. My brood opted for a slice of pizza and drink for about $5.50...bit hefty but when you're hungry you don't want them to turn into a "hangry" brood. There's an overhead page for the drivers to get back to their cars and are efficiently boarded on the ferry. There are two reasons to take a ferry: 1) as a commuter line between work and home 2) as a fun ocassional trip to be on the water. Most ferry rides cater to only one of these two options but the Bremerton-Seattle Ferry does an amazing job at blurring those two types of customers. The ferry has a couple different levels with outdoor and indoor seating. You can get that #instagram worthy shot at the bow of the Ferry and then you can slink back inside to hide from the cold wind bouncing off the water. There are plenty of windows located at both the bow and stern of the Ferry to keep your view even after you have given up on the elements. Inside you will find a cafeteria serving packaged goods as well as some standard school cafeteria fare such as loaded tots, soft pretzels, and questionable chowder. You can also find vending machines, coffee, juice, and more! No reason to go hungry on the trip. There are plenty of standard Ferry seats available to enjoy the view and ride. However, there are also two dozen or so tables with long cushion bench seats and outlets if you truly want to relax after a long day at work. I love this touch and I've never seen it on a Ferry outside of Seattle. The ride to Bremerton isn't particularly long nor short. It is about an hour and depending on the time of day it can be an incredible ride. The employees do a wonderful job at keeping everything stocked and clean. FAVORITE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION (4 stars) Seattle is actually pretty big on the "ferry transportation" from one city to the next. Why drive an hour to btown when you can hope on here, enjoy a nice water ride, saves gas and beats traffic. It was also convenient for me since my xfactor was stationed out in btown. Always enjoyable when the ferry isn't packed and you get to select your seat (preferably by the window), lay back, eat, and enjoy the 1hr ferry ride (and when its sunset, love it even more). Have you ever watched "Grey's Anatomy" where Addison (kate walsh) is heading to work (Seattle) in the mornings ON A FERRY AND RIDING AT THE FRONT NOSE ENJOYING THE VIEW... well its kind of like that but she makes it look like its warm outside and Seattle isn't that warm unless its summer. The only thing I hate about it, is waiting for the next ferry. ESPECIALLY if you bring your car. You have to wait in those long lines forever until the next ferry arrives and empties out before you can drive your car in. And if the car port is filled, your stuck waiting for another ferry (it can be a pain). You come early and wait forever or you come late and risk not getting on that ferry; lose-lose situation. read more

As far as it being actual transportation to and from Bremerton, the ferry is a good option, especially since it takes automobiles in its cargo area. The wait time for the ferry to arrive can drag (I showed up on time, bought a ticket, scanned it to go through, and walked up to the ferry landing only to be told that it was a private charter and I had to wait for the next ferry - about 30 minutes later). Also, seating in the terminal as it's set up now is minimal (the main terminal is under construction and looks like it has been for a while). But as far as it being an opportunity for some good photos, this is a must for tourists and is completely worth the time. Good views of downtown Seattle from the stern of the ship as it disembarks. Good views of Elliott Bay from the bow. As you pass between inlets of land you get a good view of the neat looking homes that dot the area, many of which have their own boat docks. The view of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as you pull into Bremerton is pretty cool, although the Navy Yard City that has a lot of decommissioned ships on mothballs is further southwest and isn't really visible from the ferry. If you have the time and the means, it's probably worth leaving the ferry and finding your way there to nose around, but I didn't want to do that and basically disembarked and then got back on the ferry for the ride back. Tickets are $8.35 but you don't have to buy a ticket for the return trip. The trip takes 35 to 45 minutes. The ferry itself was much bigger than I imagined, with copious seating and a vending area. The only qualifier on how good your time will be - the weather. I was there exclusively to take pictures and it rained about 75% of the journey. There is little cover above the outdoor landings on the four corners of the ferry, so unless you have something to cover your lens with, it's not easy to get a lot of clean photos. But if the weather is decent or you know how to manipulate your camera equipment, this is one of the better ways to get panoramic shots from the Space Needle all the way south to the stadiums. read more

I debated between scoring this a 4 vs. a 5. I haven't ridden a lot of ferries, but this was certainly nice. But it isn't a narrated tour - it's a connecting ferry to get your car conveniently to and from the Olympic Peninsula. I was impressed with the ease of access, firstly. You drive in off the busy Alaskan Way, and there are several drive-up ticket booths (I'm sure the scenario is different if you walk up). The attendant was very helpful and assured us that with a round-trip ticket we could take any ferry as our return, not just the same one we were taking outbound. After paying the ~ $50 fee for the car + three passengers, we pulled into one of about 6 boarding lanes. A few minutes before departure, they allowed the traffic on and quickly loaded the boat. Parking lanes are a bit tight, but manageable. Be careful not to open your door into a bulkhead or an adjoining car, though. Once parked, you can go up to either the general passenger lounge or the upper lounge which also has an exterior exposed deck (good for shore-watching) and a snack bar (simple grill menu + a variety of beverages include a few beers and wines). We spent a fair amount of time out on the deck sightseeing and taking photos. It was a bit windy and cool, even in late July. The trip to Bremerton took about an hour. Disembarking was similarly efficient. We ended up taking a later ferry back from Bainbridge instead. The trip was shorter, but the convenience would depend on where you were going in-between. If you are hanging around in Bremerton, the drive time to Bainbridge would be longer than the difference in ferry-times. read more

3 stars is due to the scenery on the ferry ride to Bremerton. It would have been higher if not for the weird experience below. We picked this particular route/ferry/location because I read that the scenery is fantastic. It was really beautiful. You can see sea lions, beautiful little towns along the water, and the view of the mountains as your approach Bremerton is fantastic. When we got to the ticket booth it was an odd/rude experience. The woman was talking to someone in the booth next to her and didn't pay much attention to us. We told her we were going to Bremerton and wanted a roundtrip ticket. She then asked us, "what's that in the back?" This is a direct quote... She was referring to the PERSON we had in the back! Confused we said, "3 people." Again she said, "what's in the back?" We just stared at her totally flabbergasted. Finally she said, is "it" a child or adult? Again we just stared in shock and then she just rang us up for two adults and a car! What the hell? Talk about rude and offensive! I also didn't like that on the Seattle side there were no picnic tables to sit outside at. It's nice to be able to sit outside or eat food outside your car and have a place to sit. You can eat in the ferry terminal but it's better to be closer to your car. If you are looking for something to do on a sunny weekend the ferry ride to Bremerton is really nice. It's about one hour. There isn't a whole lot of excitement in Bremerton though. I'd say the entertainment stems mainly from the scenery on the way over. read more

Route 16 dropped me right in front of the ferry! The terminal at Pier 52 is quite nice. There are restaurants and coffee shop inside. The lobby is clean. The ticketing lady was really friendly and helpful answering me whether I can use my Orca card for ferry. And, yes! The ferry we were on was "Puyallup" It has its own cafeteria which sells food and drink (I smelled popcorn too) The deck is very clean. It was absolutely nice seeing Seattle from the ferry. The ferry process is pretty smooth. I walked into the ferry terminal, paid my money and within minutes I was on the ferry. There are a lot of seats, comfy ones at that, both indoor and outdoor. They keep the main rooms climate controlled, which feels really good when walking in from the outside elements. There is a cafeteria that sells adult beverages as well as some vending machines. Overall the ride over to Bremerton from Seattle is about an hour. I saw two people miss the ferry by minutes when I was getting off so make sure you're on time as the ferry unloads, loads, and goes! If you get a chance to ride the ferry with your honey, walk over to the front of the boat, stand behind them and hold on tight... feel the wind in your hair and on your face and the one you loves heat warming you. Who would want that to end?!? Especially as you approach all of the city lights in the dark of the night... I know I did! Super romantic! read more

Wow! The Bremerton Ferry was my first ever ferry ride, and my first ever ferry ride in Seattle! We took the ferry to Bremerton for my buddy's retirement from the Navy. We had his beater car, so I got to drive it on and off. The setup to wait for the ferry is really automatic, as you line up in the corresponding row. Just take careful note to line up in the right lane. When you wait to go to Bremerton, there's really nothing to do but to wait in your car. We didn't wait long and then they made sure that you got onboard safely. Once your car is parked, you get to head up topside to either sit inside where it's nice and cool or go outside and enjoy the weather. The weather was actually enjoyable for us since we were in Seattle in July! The ride was about 45 mins. Great view of Mt. Rainier as well! There are plenty of places to sit and there are tables if you are needing to eat your meal onboard. On the way back, there are places to eat and drink coffee right near the ferry landing. We couldn't help but get Starbucks and wait for our ride. Overall, I'm pretty happy to be able to take this ferry over for the retirement. I would say if you had to commute to and from Bremerton from Seattle, it's a smooth operation from what I can tell. Definitely going to be making this trip again when we head back someday! read more

This is a review of the ferry terminal only and not the actual ride. This is a pretty nice ferry terminal when it comes down to it! Public transit and cars will drop people off on top and then the cars that are getting onto the ferry queue underneath the whole building. And to top it off, cars that exit the ferry don't clog up city streets (as this terminal is smack in the middle of a busy downtown). There is a tunnel built underground where cars leave the ferry and skip the downtown traffic. Pretty cool! Nice facility that definitely has its ducks in a row. read more

This is the cheapest and most convenient way to get from Bremerton to Seattle. For one, it's a free ride over to the Emerald City and coming home it's only around $8. Much cheaper than gas, plus you can kick your feet up for an hour while you're sailing off to your desired destination. You can entertain yourself with your laptop, but there is a charge for it if you don't have your own. The ferry tends to get more crowded first thing in the morning and in the evenings from commuters trying to get to work, other than that, it's easy to score a seat. I would just recommend arriving early if you want a booth by the window to enjoy glimpses of the water and the gigantic houses along the way. During the summer, it's nice to sit outside on the deck and enjoy the sunshine. Though it's summer, it can still be cold, so a jacket is still recommended, but an excellent opportunity for some photos of the cityscapes as you approach Seattle itself. If you don't feel like driving, you can bring your car on board as well - but it's more expensive. Just another option so you don't have to fight traffic. read more

Of the two routes that leave Colman Dock, the Bremerton one has the feeling of being the poor stepchild. The Bainbridge route has the larger, nicer ferries while Bremerton has a couple of midrange size ferries. The crews that are on the Bainbridge route tend to do an admirable job of maintaining and keeping clean their ships while the Bremerton crews don't have the willpower to do the same. I get the feeling that if there is ever a bridge built between Bainbridge and Bremerton, the Bremerton run would be cancelled in a heartbeat and all of the commuters Kitsap Transit busses to the Bremerton ferry terminal would be driven over the bridge to the Bainbridge ferry terminal. The Bremerton trip is a more scenic one compared to Bainbridge. At one point, you have Blake Island, where the Native American dancers put on a really good show, on one side of the boat and the southern shore of Bainbridge on the other. Further along, after turning to enter Rich Passage, you have the aqua farms on both sides and then the twin state parks, Fort Ward and Manchester State Park, where a submarine chain once stretched across the waters during WWII. A couple of turns and then the final run to Bremerton. read more

While it's not exactly a luxury cruise, the Seattle-Bremerton ferry is still more than just a floating bus! Well, OK, I guess it is just a floating bus-- but it's a really big floating bus that you can drive your car onto, walk around, enjoy the fresh air outside, stretch out on a cushioned bench for a nap, have a meal, work on your laptop, enjoy the scenery, relax and space out... whatever. These vessels are a lot more comfortable than their terrestrial counterparts, and traveling across the water beats the hell out of being stuck in traffic on I-5. The cost is quite reasonable: $7.50 round trip fare for a walk on or vehicle passenger (fee is only charged westbound; no cost to board in Bremerton) or $12.75 for car & driver each way. ORCA cards are valid for walk-ons but NOT for vehicles. Crossings take about an hour. read more

There was a security lady, I don't remember her name but she was 5'4 200lbs black cornrows hair probably in her 40s. She was very rude and sarcastic when I asked for a mask. Yes, i should have brought a mask prior to the trip but she didn't have to harass me, make a sarcastic joke and walk away. Luckily a gentleman who was also security gave me a proper response to where I can get a mask. I didn't say anything to cause a scene, I just walked away not saying anything. I respect everyone around me and it upsets me when others, especially people working are rude. If I was rude then I wouldn't care if she was rude back, it's called fair game at that point. Sometimes you just want to be out on the water, even if it's cold outside. I often take ferries not to get anywhere but to be out in the open. Took this out during sunset which was pretty magnificent. As the sun set so did the temperature. Great means of transportation between Bremerton and Seattle. We used the passenger only option and the car option several times during our week long visit. Efficiently organized, always within a couple of minutes of the scheduled arrival/departure time, clean and functional seating, restrooms and galley (snacks and drinks). An interesting experience in public transport, that's for sure. We got there pretty early, because we didn't know how busy it'd be. I spent a lot of time looking over the edge at a few of the jellyfish. That was interesting enough for me, because I'd never seen one, but I imagine the novelty wears off quickly. Boarding could not have been simpler. Just drive on, go down the lane the guy waves you down, and park. The ferry was extremely crowded for our trip. A local told my dad and I that it was kinda unusual for it to get so packed with people at that time (early afternoon), but that a Mariners game had just let out. Bad timing on our part. The trip goes quickly enough. Crossing took about an hour. There are great views in most directions. Looking back towards Seattle, there's a good view of the city. For awhile there's also a good view of the shipyard where you can see some of the vessels. Even in summer, I'd recommend bringing a sweatshirt for the crossing if you plan to walk around on deck. It's not freezing, but the temperature does dip over the sound and the boat gets moving at a pretty good clip. read more

What a great way to spend a few hours while visiting Seattle. We drove our rental car on with great ease and off again at Bremerton to drive back by land to get better acquainted with the area. My FHSBF drops me here, and the roads and drop off areas on the Seattle side are a nightmare, though it's much nicer on the Bremerton side. The ferry itself is always clean, and who can resist a soft pretzel (wipe half the salt off though--- why is there always too much or zero?) and an $8 beer? Just saying. Always comfortably heated, always lots of seating (duh, it's massive), the girl's bathroom has a cool mirrored room off of it that people just stand in and do their makeup and stare at themselves in the mirror--- pretty convenient and roomy for public transit, all things considered. If you're from out of town and considering driving around, I would suggest taking the ferry at least once. Park the car, go upstairs, get a cup of chowdah, a pretzel, and a beer, and sit close to the front so you can see the slow pass of the Puget Sound. read more

I was going to go to Bremerton with a friend on my Birthday when we got there I was not able to get on the ferry! I am disabled and in a electric wheelchair. The ramp that takes you on the ferry is no longer accessible for wheelchairs if you are in an electric chair because the ferry ramp has two drops in the ramp and its almost like going down stairs! my chair has a tipping sensor on it and will shut off if it goes over uneven ground that can tip the chair! Wheelchair users please beware the ferry is no longer accessible so if you are planning a trip just know its not accessible for electric chairs/scooters! The ferry is located in a different spot and i think the water level is less deep so the ferry sits low thus the ramp being a bit steeper making it not accessible for wheelchair users! I will be contacting the ADA about it and the ferry personal were very uncompassionate and unwilling to help at all please know this when planning a trip on the ferry if you are in a wheelchair. read more

Ever since I first watched "Grey's Anatomy," I was hooked on the ferry Dr. mcDreamy took every day..... After a season I had enough of Dr. Dreamy Sheperd, but my love for the Ferry still existed. So I'm excited whenever I get the chance to go on a Ferry. This week we spent a few days in Washington state and took the Ferry from Bremerton to Seattle. In our experience it was efficiënt, not expensive and just an absolute treat. It's only 1 hour from Bremerton to Seattle, but it felt as if we were away from everything.
