Omg. OMG! I loved this place so much I'm sitting in the parking lot writing this review. Unassuming on the outside, but packed literally to the (20 foot) ceiling with fabric amazingness. Geared towards people who want to make their own outdoor gear (by the way, how cool is that?!) Seattle Fabrics is also a treasure trove of goodness for those of us in the bag-making community. From vinyl to nylon to mesh this is not the place to look for quilting cottons, but if you like to think out of the fabric box you've come to the right place. And even though some of the larger chain fabric stores carry some outdoor-friendly products this place carries them in EVERY color. They also have an amazing selection of bag hardware in all sizes, quite possibly the most impressive selection of zippers EVER, and enough fleece to cover the entire city in one big blanket. Their prices were super reasonable too. I've been buying my glitter vinyl online for twice what I paid here. The place isn't fancy, and you might have to do some digging, but when I couldn't find a couple of things the nice guy at the cutting counter was happy to help. I showed up at Seattle fabrics yesterday because I knew they would have the kind of heavy duty zipper I was looking for. I had no idea they only take online orders and pick up now, so I was kind of freaked out. I needed the zipper to sew into a tote bag I planned on using for an out of state conference starting today. I rang their call button anyway and explained my situation. I had brought my tote bag so it was easy to explain the situation. The young man was willing to help and made several trips back and forth into the store to make sure I got what I needed. He was polite and very helpful. I was able to sew in the zipper last night and am so pleased with the results. I am so grateful for the service at SF. Every time I have been there (pre-Covid), I have found what I needed and been assisted with grace. This place is a Seattle institution and I hope it never goes away. Every review documenting laughably bad customer service is spot on. I wanted to order a piece of fabric online. The online system told me it would be $20 to ship a a $25 piece of fabric. I called to se if there was an alternative shipping method. The guy who answered the phone told me 1. "I'M not charging you anything, it's the computer, man" 2. "It's based on weight, the price you're seeing isn't accurate. The computer automatically calculates a generalized price" So...can you weigh it and tell me an accurate shipping price? "No, I just cut fabric" Apathetic, and obviously annoyed I interrupted his wake-and-bake. Take your business elsewhere. read more

I literally created an account to write this review. I've had ok experiences in the past shopping at SF but I don't think I'll go back. I had a zipper issue that I was trying to fix. Outdoor Research suggested I ask for a zipper stopper, so I stopped here, which is in my neighborhood. Quick walk and I prefer to buy local when I can. Instead of helping to troubleshoot my issue, Josh challenged me on every point about my jacket. I don't need to someone to criticize the quality of my jacket, I realize that it is tapped and will eventually come apart. Such is the nature of outdoor gear. I needed someone who could help me figure out if my zipper issue could be fixed. Instead I was berated and left without any path forward. It was numbing to walk away with that type of service as I had just been to Cascade Designs, OR, and Feathered Friends for repair issues and was treated like someone with a brain (is that really the baseline?!) by people who were solution oriented. Josh at SF was belittling, insulting, and didn't even bother trying to help me. I've worked in customer service oriented jobs my whole life, 10 years of those in the outdoor industry. I've been shopping here for almost 20 years despite their lack-luster customer service, but after my recent experience I think I've made my last purchase at Seattle Fabrics. They remain closed due to the pandemic, so all purchases must be made on-line and delivered by mail. The photos of the #10 double zipper pulls on their website are only from the front view so I couldn't see how thick they are. Unfortunately, they will not work on my upholstery project. I've emailed them three times now over a period of two weeks and have received no reply. I realize the pandemic is a strain for small businesses, but this is unacceptable. I've spent thousands of dollars here over the years, but I'm tired of their wretched customer service. Yes, they have a great selection of hard-to-find fabrics, notions, and patterns, but since their brick-and-mortar location is no longer open, you may as well buy from any other on-line business offering similar goods. I'd love to continue shopping local, but their lack of customer service is just too frustrating to deal with any longer. read more

I ordered a zipper pull from Seattle Fabrics, and added related items to meet the $10 order minimum. When the pull arrived, I discovered it was a "regular" pull, not the "reverse" pull that was shown on the site, and which I had ordered. I emailed the company and let them know. When I hadn't heard back by the next day, I called. Initially, Kelly was not willing to believe that I received the wrong pull, since they only carry the "reverse" style. He asked me to send photographs of what I received, and told me what to look for to confirm a "regular" or "reverse" pull. This was definitely "regular". Kelly said he would check the sales floor to see what was there. I received an email later that night saying that evidently the pull that was sent to me was the only "regular" pull in the bin. He promised to get a replacement pull out to me the next day. When I didn't receive a shipping notice the next day, I sent him an email asking him to please expedite the order so I could have my product in a reasonable length of time from my original order. He responded saying I would receive shipping confirmation later in the day. That night, I received shipping confirmation for a non-expedited shipment, and it took three days for USPS to receive the package. My delivery date for the replacement part is two weeks after I brought this issue to their attention. I know it is a pandemic. I know that things are different now. I'd still think that decent customer service would entail fixing shipping mistakes in a timely manner. Yes, this is a small order, and a good way to judge a company's customer service is to see how they handle the little things. This wasn't handled in a way that would make me return to this company for larger purchases. read more

I love Seattle Fabrics-I'm honestly pretty shocked at their low review ratings here. They have a wide range of fabrics that are great for outdoors activities-they also have a great range of things like elastic, velcro, vinyl, etc. The prices, in my opinion, are reasonable. I think the Goretex is something like $30 a yard. Every person who worked there that I've ever talked to is knowledgeable and helpful...and if they aren't sure about something, they find someone who does. read more

Order 1) Cant get any customer service, no response to email or phone calls. Been almost 6 weeks and have not received my order. Have not received any communication when left voice mail and sent email. The only thing I got was a confirmation of the order and that they took the money from my bank. Currently working on reporting this as fraud. Buyer be ware. They will take your money and wont ship you what you ordered. Order 2) This order I put in a few days after the first one. It arrived after 2-3 weeks. We had already chosen to go with another company because 2 weeks shipping(just to get shipping confirmation not even including time in transit) time is unacceptable. When I got the fabric it was navy blue.....I ordered black as our products are all black at this time for simplicity reasons. Not only was shipping way way to long but it wasn't even the product I ordered. We are a new company looking for a supplier to make large monthly purchases. I have been going to SF for about 7-8 years now and ADORE it. My 1st visit I came in knowing exactly what I was looking to create, had measurements in hand and knew lengths required for my zipper (as well as size #3, #5, #10). The staff pointed me to the textile I required, was helpful in cutting and even asked if I wanted it all rerolled. I've never felt stupid asking questions, but I've also done my own due diligence before going in. TO ME, this isn't a store for newbies... that's what Joann's is for. The only good thing I can say about this company is that they sold neoprene, that's it. First, it took a week after ordering for the goods to finally go out (and this was after the 3rd day I got a call verifying the order and was promised it would go out that day). 2nd - they sent me an email saying I didn't input my credit card information correctly - which i was skeptical of, but being in a rush i ignored prudence and emailed them the #. So - what happened? Days later the card was compromised (while I had no other unusual purchases during that time. I wouldn't be surprised if they have someone in the office selling or using people's card information. Unprofessional. I'd give this place 5 stars if they could do two things: 1) Pay attention to customers better. At least pretend you aren't avoiding me. Once I get to talking with you, I get great info. Please don't run into the back when customers walk in. 2) Give a decent wholesale discount, not just a break from sales tax. Geez. Your prices are marked up high enough already. Aside from those 2 points, this place is ace. You can find all kinds of outdoor fabrics from Cordura to pre-quilted coat fabric. Along with that you can get kite fabric, sports mesh, outdoor taffeta, ripstop, tent material, patterns, zipper by the foot, etc. Good stuff. Seattle Fabrics is the place to go in Seattle if you want outdoor fabrics to make your own clothing and gear. They have lovely quality supplies for reasonable prices. They have lots of this and that: patterns, books, zippers, little metal/plastic fittings, scissors, reflective fabric, cording, straps. Many different types of fabrics: nylon, polar fleece, spandex, netting, marine vinyl, insulative fabric, gortex with many colors of fabrics. They have discounted remnants. I think they have fabric for RV's and sail boats. I have been going to this store for years and the service has definitely improved. Please be gentle with a bit of disorganization because we don't want another local, mom and pop fabric store to go out of business. read more

We needed toga fabric, Pronto!! This was the closest place, but after reading some reviews, I almost passed on it. Glad I didn't cuz they came through like champs. Of course I wanted a camofluage toga, but they didn't have enough material and the sales guy said "that'd be quite expensive, too. We have some 2.99/yard material down here" So, you just cut your profits to peanuts and suggested something that will save us money, all for customer service?!?! That's awesome, Thank you. I spent 25$ on enough yardage of comfy material and enough gold rope to keep me sinched. I've been going here for a while. They have some neat stuff that you can't get at Joann's and other regular fabric stores. Some negatives are customer service. I've seen some friendly people but some are slackers who don't look like they want to be there. Sometimes I see staff there making fun of their customer on the phone. That's not nice. Another thing is things are pricy. You can find the same or similar stuff online cheaper. I go there when I really need something right away, otherwise I buy online. I am only basing my review off of their service and not their product because what I picked up was not for me. I walked in and was immediately greeted by two employees. One knew exactly who I was when I said I was picking up an order for my dad while the other sat there entertaining my two month old. The lady that helped me got the fabric, rolled it nicely, rang me up and even carried it to my car so I could carry out my baby who was in his car seat. Again, I don't know about the product and their selection but they were really nice people for my pick up of fabric for my dad. read more

-Facility Quality- There's nothing really to say about the facility. Fabric is on rolls and small plastic hardware are in individually marked drawers. The website is a good place to look before you go in so you have an idea of whether or not they have what you're looking for. It's fairly accurate. -Selection- Selection is good in terms of outdoor fabric and related items. It's not a craft fabric store and doesn't pretend to be. It's an outdoor fabric store and stocks a selection of plastic hardware, grommets, cordura, ballistic nylon, sunshade, and waterproofing coatings, just to name a few of the items. They also sell remnants for 25% off so look in those bins if you want to give a fabric a shot or don't need a lot of it. -Staff- I was there earlier this week roughly 1/2 an hour before closing. The staff greeted me when I cam through the door and asked me what I was looking for several times. They were far more competent than other recent reviews might lead you to believe. -Misc- There's construction on Aurora right now as DOT is repairing the right hand lane and the side walk so getting there on foot/bus might be a bit more difficult than normal, but it's still doable. read more

I've been going to Seattle Fabrics for a few years, and absolutely love the place. The staff are all nice and helpful, and they have everything no other fabric store around has. My mom lives in PA has been ordering things online for years and when she visited me a while ago I took her in to meet everyone and it was so cool! :) I make bags and motorcycle gear etc and they have all the hardware and fabric you could want. Sara has been a continual gem for advice and service and help. I'll always go here first before any of the amateur places like Joann or Michael's. This store has great fabric. The selection here is incomparable. Their staffing is bizarre. They seem to have a lot of people working, but it is generally difficult to get someone to help you and they are generally not helpful. There are varying processes for cutting different fabrics. You are allowed to get some down yourself, you are allowed to cut some things yourself (I think? webbing, velcro), you are not allowed to get down and cut some things.... and you tend to get talked down to if you ask for clarification. Anyways, I always come in here knowing exactly what I want and come out feeling dumb. Or confused. But, I keep coming back though because I really like outdoor fabrics. read more

I wanted to like this place, but they made it hard. They are bricks and mortar in a digital world. I've never been to the store and don't plan on going there. I ordered some vinyl online and since they had some sale fabric added it to the order. I did have a typo on my phone number but did have my email correct. I didn't hear anything for 10 days and sent an email, but no reply. I finally called, I had to spell my name 6 times and wait on hold before the lady said 'The sale item is out of stock'. Why have a sale item on a web page if it is out of stock? They tried to call the number and gave up when it was no good. I ordered on the internet I expect internet contact. Things like shock cord by the foot are good for some home projects too. You can find every kind of clip and attachment you could ever want, and the stuff they stock tends to be very sturdy. They have recommended alternatives when they didn't have what I wanted in the color I wanted, and they have loads of different cables, shock cords, buckles, fasteners, and stuff like reflective tape and gear repair material, in addition to the bolts upon bolts of varying fabrics. I'm visiting from out of town and Seattle Fabrics was the only shop on my to do list. I've often seen their products online. But, wanted to shop in person. I was not disappointed. The two clerks were extremely charming and helpful. The young man helped me pick out great fabric for a raincoat showing me three different price point options. I also wanted seam tape to seal my seams and he suggested a newer, easier to use product, and I found a great woven supplex to make swim trunks for my husband. These fabrics are super hard to come by on the East Coast and I was thrilled to pick and choose in person. The prices are also a little less in store than on the website which was an added bonus. But, lots of outdoor weather fabric, athletic knits, waterproof and breathable woven fabrics. If you're from out of town, bring a bag. They don't give out shopping bags by local ordnance. The materials themselves are very high quality but the customer service is pretty lackluster. I tried to cancel an order that I made by mistake (didn't realize it was the wrong material, but shouldn't be a big deal right?), sent in a request to cancel it not even 24 hours later, got no response, but was still charged and the material was sent to me ~2 weeks later. I followed up by requesting to return the material and get a refund because it was not what I needed which was what I stated in the initial request to cancel. Following that with another response, i've yet to hear back from them and now i'm out 50 bucks with material I don't even need. Who the heck is running the website over there. read more
