Unreliable. Sail at your own risk!…read more Harbour Cruises of Vancouver completely failed to deliver on the promise of their Indian Arm cruise. They claimed smoke in the engine room and limped back to port before we even turned into the Arm. Other reviews have reported unexplained itinerary changes that eliminated the main part of the trip. One has to wonder if they don't go up the Arm simply to save money when it's not fully booked or if their boats are that unreliable. While I understand mechanical issues, their compensation policy was completely inadequate. They offered a free drink on board and a coupon for 15% off a future cruise. Anyone booking on the internet can get a 20% discount off any cruise! After much back and forth they finally offered a 20% refund. The final price after this discount was approximately double the price of a narrated harbor tour. We received an un-narrated tour of the container port instead of a tour of the natural environment, which is what we were promised. We feel cheated by Harbour Cruises of Vancouver. Sail at your own risk!

Very bad business practice…read more We booked a 3pm tour. It was the last day that we are in Vancouver, we would be flying home that night. At 1:45pm, after we have planned our whole day around the excursion and checked out of the hotel in preparation of this tour, Sea Vancouver office called and said they are cancelling my tour because they "need a minimum of 4 people and only 3 people booked". I explained that we are leaving the city that day, and we planned our whole day around this, and if there is anything they can do. It is unreasonable to only notify me 75 minutes prior to departure time - we were already on the way to the departure point! The only thing they said was that they will refund me in full (I'd better hope so since you cancelled it with incredibly short notice!) I understand that it may not be economical to operate a tour based on fixed cost, but this was NOT written anywhere when I booked it on the official website, but they were happy to take my money when I booked. The confirmation email stated "We reserve the right to delay or cancel a departure for events beyond our control (e.g. adverse weather conditions, technical or mechanical issues, etc.)" -- well, operating a boat when there are "only" 3 paying customers is definitely in their control, they just choose to screw over their customers. This has put a really sour taste on my trip to Vancouver. I would encourage everybody to stay away.

This was our first time in Vancouver, and whats not a better way to experience it than by taking a boat tour! We honestly planned this boat tour super last minute, so we called a few places, but they were all closed. Fortunately, Sea Vancouver still had tours going out until 7pm which was the last one! The lobby is located in the Westin hotel and the ride is 90 minutes long, which takes you all around the harbor of Vancouver to the English Bay! There was so much to see at the waterfront and we even saw a few dolphins along the ride! We were hoping for orcas too but maybe next time haha. Overall the boat tour was absolutely amazing! Terry our captain, made the experience super educational a fun! Love that guy! Thanks Cap! And thank you Sea Vancouver!

Guaranteed thrills on this zodiac boat tour! Wow..talk about an adrenline rush! This was basically a high speed thrill ride in a jet boat with amazing scenery. Life is always better on a boat! I was literally just having the time of my life!! 3 hours of pure adrenline and jaw-dropping views....speeding across those waves felt like a roller coaster on the water! Zooming down the ocean, wind in your hair, sun on your face...you'll have the time of your life!!! The adrenaline rush was unreal, and the views from the water were stunning. Still buzzing from the speed, and sprays. And let's be honest, seeing Van from the water is absolutely epic. You rediscover the city from a completely different perspective. The experience is a total thrill -- high speeds with the sun and wind in your face, plus those mini splashes of water that make it feel even more epic. Vancouver's coastline is stunning, but seeing it at high speed is a whole different experience. We felt safe but totally exhilarated. From the moment the ride started, the speed, fun turns, and splashes of water made it so exciting. The ride itself was an absolute adrenaline rush! Speed, excitement, and so much fun from start to finish! The speed, and scenery were all unreal. We had so much fun from start to finish -- adrenaline, laughs, and nonstop excitement. Shoutout to Jessica for the top-tier communication! Her communication was exceptional leading up to the event which made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Huge kudos to our driver Ray for his great sense of humour and keeping the vibe fun the whole ride. The energy from Ray was fantastic, keeping everyone hyped up and laughing the entire time. Definitely hope you get Ray as your driver! He clearly knew exactly how to make the ride exciting while keeping it smooth and controlled. Ray's energy, charisma, and knowledge about Van were truly impressive. He didn't miss a single detail and made the entire tour feel engaging and special. Thanks to him, you really feel like you get to know the city, because he shares so many interesting facts about every place you pass. It's not just a boat ride - it's 3 hours of thrills with incredible views at every turn! The boat then stopped at Bowen Island and the tour includes ice cream on the island. It's a little escape from the busy everyday life! Life just moves differently here! I could get very used to this island time thing! I can't think of a more exciting way to experience Vancouver's scenery! We got to feel the rush of speed, soak up the splash, and experience Vancouver from a whole new perspective. We cruised through the Howe Sound, felt the ocean breeze, and took in unbeatable views of Vancouver! Speed, waves, water splashes...full-on adrenaline rush! If you're looking for something unforgettable to do before the summer ends, you need to come experience this! Some moments are best experienced from the water!! Hands down, this is one of the best experiences to have in all of Vancouver. If you're looking for a fun, high-energy adventure on the water, this is absolutely the ride to take. If you are hesitant to book this tour, I am here to tell you to just hit that reservation button.

    Coal Harbour, Downtown

I decided after much contemplation (and several declines from my friends much to my surprise) that…read moreI'd ask Marcus to come along with me on this three hour tour of the Vancouver Harbour, False Creek and downtown aboard the famous Hornblower Yacht that departs from Coal Harbour. It shocked me actually that Marcus wanted to come with. He didn't usually like to lift his sorry butt off the couch on a Sunday, complaining usually of his torrid night past which consisted mainly of hard cheezies and plenty of X-File repeats on DVD. "They're called reruns," he told me as we walked up the plank to the main deck of the Hornblower - a three deck yacht that was immaculately clean emitting a sense of pride that only the great ocean could demand. "Besides," Marcus threw in. "I couldn't let you go alone." Inside my head, I thanked him. I didn't understand why my friends would turn down a chance to ride False Creek, through the heart of downtown Vancouver, past the business district and take in the beautiful sight that is the sails of Canada Place. Usually, I'd have to draw straws to see who went... but not today. There was only Marcus left standing. In the dining room, the tables were set with matching table cloths and napkins, and at the end of the room, there was a full bar for cocktails and non alky's. On the walls, pictures of famous ships and other boat paraphernalia brought a feeling of comfort and nostalgia, even though I'd never been on the boat before. Upstairs, Marcus excused himself and instinctively found his way into the men's washroom, patting his stomach and announcing to the rest of the crowd that he "had to create some space for dinner". I cringed. They all walked away disgusted. The Japanese could hear the toilet flush from downtown Tokyo and they yelled "Tsunami!" as Marcus bailed out of the loo. "Now I feel like a man," he said (only he was truly serious) "Let's go see the boat". The second deck of the Hornblower wrapped around the entire length of the ship. There were chairs and tables scattered all around from bow to stern. Pockets of people sat with martini glasses and beer steins, taking in the view of Coal Harbour. The blue sky above displayed a run of overcast, but that eliminated the sweltering heat that pounded behind the clouds. It was a perfect day for a cruise. The Hornblower DJ began the evening with light Caribbean music, then as the time passed, got into newer music and old time rock and roll. The dinner was a choice cut of prime rib, roasted herb potatoes, fresh veggies, French bread and a variety of salads. Overall, the presentation was great and the food was tasty. After dinner, that's when the party really got started. Marcus downed three quick tequilas from the bar and scooted upstairs. I cringed again, wondering if I would be wiping Marcus up off the floor by the end of the trip. I downed my red wine and chased after him. Upstairs, the DJ had most of the people dancing in mere minutes. Playing music from the disco era, to the eighties, to old time rock and roll - he didn't stop once. He was unique in the sense that he pulled out costumes and masks for himself and the dancers to wear. People loved it! They put on the Village People hats and did the YMCA! I'd never seen a group of people have such a good time in a short amount of time. He even had Marcus dancing. During the song Man, I Feel Like A Woman by Shania Twain, the DJ put a feather boa around Marcus's neck and dressed him up like a woman, wig and all! Marcus saw me watching from the railing and strolled over to me... more like sauntered seductively. "Dude," he slurred. "I totally need some bazookas!" He raised both his hands to his chest and squeezed. For the first time in a while, I saw my friend smile. By the end of the trip, the sun had set and the beautiful lights of downtown Vancouver appeared. The BMO building stood tall on the shore. The RBC building with the one solid green laser light that shot high into the night sky. Stanley Park on one side, the North Vancouver Quay on the other. The sails of Canada Place were lit up like the Hollywood sign and clear as day. There is no better view of the city than from the deck of the Hornblower. I felt Marcus slump down beside me against the rail. He reeked of tequila and cheap perfume."I think I got a date," he slurred and turned halfway around. I turned and saw him wave to a red hair lady about fifty years of age, wrapped in one of the DJ's boas. She must have outweighed Marcus by at least a hundred pounds, but she was happy... and apparently so was he. "Jackpot!" He made a motion in the air like he was pulling on the limb of a one armed bandit. "So you had a good time," I said. "Ooooh yeah," he smirked. "I'm glad I told everyone that the cruise was on the Fraser River... not False Creek." I was angry only for a second. He was my best friend after all, and if anyone needed to have the night of their life aboard a beautiful yacht, it was Marcus.

It's pretty hard to tell which direction the ferry is going next though unless you're very familiar with the routes, so make sure you ask the driver just in case. I find that the ones I've interacted with all ask you where you're going before letting you on, so at least I haven't taken the wrong boat yet. They have a zone system for ticketing and at first it was a bit confusing for which zone ticket was needed to go where. But they have nice maps at each stop so it wasn't too hard to decipher after awhile. The boat drivers were also pretty nice and were happy to answer questions about tickets. I took the boats during the Big Picnic event at David Lam park. There were other people on the boat but it was not crowded at all. Boats also came all the time and so we didn't have to wait much before ours came. The boat doors were left open when I rode the boats and so it was really nice to be able to take pictures and videos without obstruction from the windows or clear screens. The creek is relatively calm most of the time and the rides are short, so most people probably won't get sea sick.

Many things are beyond anyone's control (weather, if the fish are biting, etc.), but this review is about failure to address things that are controllable. Professional guides. Our first leader was not a member of the crew but another passenger. The first full day day we went out with a crewmember who was not only not a professional fishing guide but didn't even have a license; he also didn't bring a personal flotation device or ensure we had such equipment. Equipment. "Jiggle the handle more" and "don't push the button too hard" were typical of the guidance we got for things that didn't function properly. Radios worked some of the time while the depth finders never did, both of which are safety issues. A faulty starting system got attention only after the cables started to smoke. There's no checklist of any kind to ensure boats are properly outfitted (tackle boxes, bait boxes, safety gear, etc.) each day. Follow the fish (aka "We move daily"). We went out the first day and anchored, then never moved again until the trip back to home port. We were licensed through Friday and there was discussion of fishing that morning, but we woke at first light to find we were underway back to Bella Bella--where we sat...and sat...and sat. More than one member of our party pointed out the obvious--that we could be fishing instead of hanging around at the dock or in the airport. Food. The cook jumped ship on the second full day and the quality of meals declined sharply--to a level below what's common to the college freshman experience. The description of meals that appears on the website is a fantasy. Also, coffee shouldn't require chewing; a Keurig or something similar might be in order, particularly because coffee tends to be the first thing people want before they begin the fishing day. Personnel. Lots of issues on this subject. In addition to whatever went on with the cook, there were episodes of crewmembers arguing loudly within earshot of the passengers, all of which contributed to the youth hostel feel of the boat. Packaging the catch. We saw people who had fished with other companies and the packages they were carrying. There were neatly sealed containers intended to keep the fish cold while customers traveled home. Our stuff was in an unsealed bag inside an unsealed cardboard box, and a day of flying gave us a predictable outcome. It was a mess, like the whole rest of the trip.
