Seaside Hostel - right on the river, 5 mins from the beach
    Tristan A.

Have stayed here many times, on trips up and down the coast. This is an older motel converted into a hostel, good idea. I've stayed in the bunk rooms and private rooms, all rooms were decent, clean, though somewhat spartan. Hey, its a hostel. Great staff, safe and friendly hostel. I've got some good memories of this place. Pros: Location - right on the river, use the boats Near the ocean Nice nice staff Movies at night Clean and cozy common room Stories were told and soft music was heard at night Snag a bed by the window, hear the ocean Nice deck and grassy back yard area Easy parking Cons: Seaside is poss my least favorite beach town in Oregon Avoid Seaside during Spring Break Tip: Travel up or down coast for a nice beach without skee ball

A car that looked like someone had been living out of it

Place was not well kept at all whatsoever and there were a group of homeless people loitering there when we arrived. Not a great start to the trip but we were lucky enough to get the last room at best western which ended up being the same price!

Came here to stay the night was offered by the host dinner and helpful information. They had a fridge to put out food, nice lounge area and a garden that they gave us permission to eat anything we picked. With a nice back yard over seeing the river with a fire pit. Pancakes are also served for breakfast. Overall great stay and outstanding customer service.

A view from the back, with rhubarb in full-bloom.

Having traveled the entire way around the globe, Seaside International tops the best hostels in the world. Homey, but spacious; cleanly, but low-key...this hostel has everything that a foreign or local traveler will need to feel at ease. Trung the owner offers linens and comfortable quarters, breakfast included with stay, and has all the information about what to see and do in the area surrounding world-famous Haystack Rock. There's a living room that looks out onto the river filled with games, a piano and other musical instruments, and a small library of books. An enormous water-front garden boasts three separate patios, a grill and a fire pit, and an array of canoes and kayaks available for rent. A fully-stocked kitchen has ample room to store your groceries and cook a meal. And if you manage to catch any oysters on the ocean that's just a few blocks away, the friendly and helpful staff will even show you how to clean them! A skeptic for how highly recommended to me this hostel had been, I can now say I wasn't a bit disappointed. Instead, I actually extended my stay! As a European-American I have stayed in hostels in nearly every country of Europe. I've lived in NYC, LA, Seattle, and many other places in the U.S. But next time I'm in Europe and meet travelers interested in visiting the U.S., it is Seaside International Hostel that I will be recommending they visit.

The property makes a strong first impression -- the staff…read moreis friendly, the lobby smells great, and the overall aesthetic is charming and inviting. There's definitely a cool, curated vibe, and the coffee/tea setup in the lobby is a nice touch. I also appreciated the complimentary bikes and the ease of using them. That said, the rooms didn't quite live up to the price point (around $400+ for two weekend nights). The building itself feels older and a bit worn beneath the cosmetic updates. Our room, in particular, showed signs of heavy use -- the bed was noticeably worn and dipped in the middle, and some of the finishes felt a bit cheap or improvised. Noise was also an issue. Despite requesting a top-floor room, we were placed directly under the restaurant, and we could hear footsteps, banging, and general activity until about midnight each night. Soundproofing overall seemed pretty minimal, which made it hard to fully relax. There were also a few small inconveniences -- no hotel phone, no central air, limited trash space, and some quirky (but not very functional) design choices like exposed cable management. The spa had potential but fell short during our visit. One sauna door didn't close properly, another wasn't working at all, and the overall experience felt underwhelming given the atmosphere they're going for. I can see the appeal of this place -- especially for families or those drawn to its aesthetic -- but for the price and volume of guests they accommodate, I expected a bit more attention to detail and upkeep. With some improvements, it could really shine.

Close to the beach and walking trails. Lobby has a cafe and great drink selection of juice, soda and alcohol in the coolers. Hotel room 3/5- everything seemed clean at first but closer look the floor was dusty and filled with sand but due to the light color floor boards, so wear sandals or use the broom and dust pan provided in the room. There was no laundry bag or a hotel phone in the room so if you need anything or have any questions gotta head down to the front desk. There's also no central air and the room can get very warm and humid even with our heater off. During our 2 night stay we'd take the opportunity to leave our window cracked when we'd go out so the air can circulate. The mattress was bare-able and we even had conversations with other guests that shared they found the beds uncomfortable. The curtains were hard to open and close because they were broken. The room just felt empty and kinda sad. Pool 5/5- the spa and pool are in a separate building and they provide guests with robes and pool towel that's found in your room. Pool was nicely warm and steam barrels were the highlight of our stay. It was relaxing and provided a cozy ambiance during the winter.

The only downside, and honestly the most important one, was the cleanliness. It didn't feel properly cleaned. For example, I found hair in the bathroom, even men's hair, which made me uncomfortable and a bit doubtful about how well everything else was cleaned. It's a shame because everything else was good the location, the view, and even the breakfast (which was included and decent). But cleanliness is really important, and that part definitely needs improvement.

Astoria Riverwalk Inn - Disappointing Service Despite a Beautiful Location…read more We stayed at the Astoria Riverwalk Inn from Saturday, December 27 through Sunday, December 28. While the room itself faces the river and the view is genuinely beautiful, the level of service was extremely disappointing and overshadowed what could have been a great stay. Upon arrival, we were not issued room keys because their system was down. This meant that every single time we needed to enter our room, we had to wait for someone at the front desk to come unlock it for us. Since there usually seemed to be only one person working, this often involved a long wait. The staff overall appeared very young and lacked any sense of urgency or customer service. At no point did anyone seem concerned about the inconvenience we were experiencing. To make matters worse, our room had only one towel for two guests. We notified the front desk at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night but were told we couldn't receive additional towels until 9:00 a.m. the next morning. When we called again Sunday morning, the front desk attendant said she couldn't leave the desk to bring towels--yet when I drove to the front desk myself (this is a cottage-style property and our room was at the far end), there were three employees working. Still, no one offered to bring the towels. For a room costing $162 per night, this level of service is unacceptable. The issue isn't walking or driving to the desk--it's the complete lack of care or effort to resolve basic guest needs. Finally, we woke up Sunday morning to ants all over the counters and tables. Ants everywhere. When this was mentioned to the front desk, the response was indifferent at best. This is unfortunate because the rooms themselves are decent, and the balconies and river views are lovely. The potential is absolutely there--but without competent, attentive service, this property falls far short. It's sad to see such a great location undermined by poor management and customer care.
