steak frites and seasalt paella

Delicious seafood. sat outside to people watch. Seasalt paella was yummy and very fresh. Got the calamari for appetizer which was a smaller dish. Nice service. Mojito was yum!

After been seated wondered why we were here.... The host honestly was bit dismissive, I wasn't sure where the entrance was and as he came up, said wait and showed me the part of the sign "please wait to be seated", that should been a sign. Food was just ok, overpriced and edible. Calamari was excellent but the amount they give you for the price they charge is not worth it. All other joints would have given four times what they served for what they were charging. Salad was edible and that's all I can say. The host was happier after we paid and included a tip. I don't know why Canada follows USA with tipping options, since they are part of the commonwealth, there should be no tipping!!

Friend of my friend hosting his business celebrated at this restaurant. Sadly, only few options for vegetarians but the guy didn't care because he is so in love with this place. Service is good, food is great, seafood lover will love this place! Bar area look nice, interesting decoration.

Go here for some good seafood! I had the moules frites. The portions were HUGE. The mahi-mahi was also beautifully presented. I don't know how it tastes though, since I'm allergic. The waiters weren't too attentive to the allergy; I almost ate it unknowingly.

Service, ambiance and drinks were great. Unfortunately the food was a miss. Except foe the sweet potato fries. Those were delicious. The tartar had a very off taste and our lobster rolls had large pieces of shells. Maybe it was an off day?

Stopped by here before I headed to OSHEAGA because my girlfriend had it in her mind that Montreal has amazing oysters. I think it's mostly that my girlfriend loves oysters, and made up the Montreal having good oysters piece, but that's neither here nor there. We ordered a dozen oysters, which were delicious and to my girlfriends liking. (They were shipped in from New Brunswick and not from Montreal.) We each had the Bloody Mary which was one of those big embarrassing ones with an umbrella and a bunch of other stuff - of course it was delicious. Would come back

Food is good for the place. Service is fast, outdoor seating is good. Lobster roll, fish and chips and scallops were good when we ordered them.

Everything we had here was really good. This place is a go to for seafood lovers We took oysters, mussels, octopus, salmon tartare, lobster roll, crab cake, calamari The seafood seemed very fresh We were 5 and it was perfect to share it, all of those were really good. To reserve here you have to call. They have a nice big patio in front If you are a fan of bloody caesars, you should definitely get the seasalt caesar that comes with an oyster and shrimp, one of the best ceasars I've had in MTL. Staff was nice and service was fast I highly recommend this place for small or big groups especially in the summer on the patio

This spot is located in the old port in a great area! The patio is super cute with lots of seating and a nice big umbrella for some great shade when it's super hot. I wasn't sure it this restaurant was going to be good since they hardly had any reviews but I'm glad we did! It was very busy so the service was extremely slow but understandable. We got oysters and calamari and red and white sangria. The white sangria was so much better so for anyone wondering which one to get white is a go for me! They even have pitchers here. Oysters were fresh and delicious with the perfect sauce to pair it with. We will definitely be back here! Thanks again

Probably one of the best spot for a patio in town. Well placed and spacious patio in the heart of old port right by the water. Even with the COVID distancing restrictions, it's large enough that it can accommodate many tables. That being said, expect premium prices. My favourite cocktail was the sea breeze sangria (Prosecco, grapefruit vodka, grapefruit juice, Quattro, fresh fruit, rosé wine) but their aperol was good too. For food, we had the seafood salad (portions for the mains here tend to be on the smaller side but for this salad, it was quite generous, to my surprise). The salad was very fresh and had lots of seafood. We also had the salmon tartare that was pretty good, and the fried calamari, Po boy sandwich and lobster roll with a side of fries. The sandwich and lobster roll doesn't come with any sides so you have to pay extra to order your sides. Our server was so lovely though they were quite understaffed and it seemed that she was tending almost the entire terrasse during peak dinner hour..therefore service was quite slow. This is understandable, though, as many restaurants in Montreal are suffering from lack of staff everywhere. (In terms of price, we were two people and had 3 appetizers, 2 sandwiches, one order of fries, 5 cocktails and the bill was about $230 before tip. Not cheap but it's a nice location with a unique vibe, decent food and service) Food: 4.5 Service: 3.5 Value: 3.5 Ambiance: 5 Overall: 4

Went there with my brother and sat at the bar. Bartender/server whose name escapes me (Eric? Tall dude with curly hair and a stache) poured excellent cocktails, was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and food and kept our glasses full. We ordered the seafood tower, the Crab toast, and the octopus. They were all obscenely good. Good bottle of wine and too much amaro at the end. Got to meet Chuck Hughes. He was super nice and fun to chat with. The rest of the staff, although not directly "responsible" for us, were taking care of business. Helping each other, making others aware of what is needed at other tables, and all trying their very best to make everyone's night as wonderful as possible. Everyone we came across seemed happy to be there. Ownership should be proud. Thanks for the awesome night. We will be back!

We were shown to our table, which was near the entrance in the perfect spot. I loved how they have a curtain at the entrance, so that although it felt like -20 with the windchill, we didn't notice once when people entered or exited. Our waitress introduced herself right away and took our cocktail orders. When she delivered our drinks, she explained how the chef's tasting menu worked and left us for a few minutes to decide which option we would like. We chose 'tier 3' which included a pasta course and extra caviar. Everything we had was amazing, from the seafood tower, to the beef carpaccio, to the hanger steak. It was so much food, we thought we would all burst by the end. The waitress was outstanding and was completely engaged with us throughout the evening. She added so much to our experience. We opted for the wine pairings and she gave us 3 wines as well as an amaro at the end. All in all, it was a meal to remember with a price tag of just under $2,000. Well worth it. We highly recommend this for a special occasion dinner.

The food was overcooked and barely warm - likely from the extended time under a headlamp and the salad was okay but nothing you couldn't get anywhere else. Pics and reviews looked great, so we made plans to dine here during our penultimate night in the city. Barroco is located in Old Montreal, right on Rue Saint-Paul. The exterior has really charming curb appeal, and upon entry we were greeted by the same. This isn't a large restaurant, arranged with tables and a few booths throughout the space and a bar on the back wall that serves as a focal point. The vibes were on - the restaurant was tastefully decorated with a mix of old-fashioned fixtures, stone walls, and earth tones. The restaurant was quite lively - the vibes were on. Their drink menu is quite creative; we actually started our evening at the bar while we were waiting for our table and the bartender made some great suggestions - both cocktails I had were really good. The food menu is mostly French inspired; it wasn't extensive but they had a good variety of creative dishes. We decided on two starters - the brioche and the octopus salad. The brioche was fine, it came as one roll with a side of seasoned butter. It was a little on the dry side, and the butter wasn't very flavorful. The octopus salad was much better; the octopus was sliced and arranged on top of a ratatouille which provided a good complement of flavors and textures. For my main I got the OG braised beef. The beef was almost pot-roast style, seasoned with maple and aged balsamic sauce and paired with truffled celery root purée. This was delicious - the beef was super tender, and the sauce provided great flavor. The puree was an awesome side - the entire trip was super comforting and familiar while also being new and interesting. We decided to get two desserts - the madeleines and the olive oil cake. The former were baked fresh and came with a side of chocolate pudding and salted caramel, while the latter came with whipped cream and coached pears. Both were good, but I preferred the madeleines; the warm sponge paired with the chocolate and caramel was a great finisher to the meal. Service was great - everyone from the host to the bartender to our waiter made us feel welcome; they definitely elevated the experience.
