The staff is always friendly and welcoming and are a reflection of the eclectic Wallingford Neighborhood! Great Cuban food. They happened to be out of a (large) number of their offerings when we ate there, but my third choices were great! Server was overwhelmed by short staffing, but kept a smile on her face. It was also the first night of their new Thursday trivia program, which has great potential. We'll be back. read more

Used to be such a great little local music venue! I gave three stars because the music is still awesome and totally worth the (now)cover... used to be free. I was so excited about the remodel as it would give more space for dancing and whatnot, but now it's just like any other night club infested with horny guys trying to take advantage of drunk women. ** Late review but my GF always tells my to do a review for this place** ** Also my first one, I simply made an account for this review lol I'm still mad** I was last there with my GF for Seahawks Monday Night football late in the season, so about around late November in very crucial game. This place had this bad ass projection screen with a loud surround sound system too. It was late in the game Seahawks are on defense with the lead about 2 minutes left, and then it happened... As the projection screen starts rolling up, you see a woman sitting in a chair with a guitar, she says "HELLO everybody, welcome to open mic night!" You could feel the deflation of the vibe in there, the disbelief on most of the ppl in there, lol just couldn't believe what just happened here. Do not ever watch a game at this place, ever. I warn you! I kindly asked the middle aged blond waitress if I could actually have my burger to go.. NO PROBLEM! Until after 2 bites I notice omggg... so much fucking raw pink in the middle of the patty! I was disgusted but at the same time, ppl make mistakes.. I even asked about 5 dudes outside the restaurant if I was tripping or if they did see a raw burger.. theyall 100 percent agreed with me so I didn't feel bad asking for my money back! But did I ever know how difficult that situation had to be. SMH. I kindly asked the waitress for a second of her time, trying to be discrete with respectful intentions because these things happen. So I'm talking on a low level, I asked her if I could get my money back or a new burger because mine is raw.. Let me tell all of you first thing, like her energy was off, very rude I thought. I kindly asked for the manager and she tells me she's the manager. Anyways she agrees with me about the uncooked burger BUT THEN says I ate too much of the burger to get my money back or even make me a new one. Never had I been tested like this before.. So I felt like I had to make a scene, BEING LOUD and hold my stance for what I thought was right!.. After I started showing customers the burger at the bar, she decides to give me my money back right away. That tells me this place or it could be this one waitress ( and also cook) are pieces of shit! So with that aid the moral of the story is mannn you do not want to watch a seahawks game here i'm telling you! Bad service! uncooked burger! And stupid open mic night over a Seahawks game! I thought i should weigh in on the Seamonster after reading the mixed reviews. I wonder if the owners don't care about their reviews because they have a steady clientele of devotees. This is one of my favorite bars in Seattle and there's no other venue like it. The musicianship is often the best you're gonna find especially on a weeknite, the place is divey and cramped, space is so short you're rubbing elbows with the band. It has character. It draws a diverse crowd that usually show up late and can get rowdy. It's not for everyone, just for the funky! read more

I first entered the Seamonster about a month ago, and it instantly became my Tuesday night haunt. One word: McTuff. This band plays every tuesday at 10 pm (I admit, a little late for a Tuesday) but they are amazing. I know I should review the lounge... but they were smart enough to book these guys weekly! The "stage" is on floor level, so you are literally sitting/standing right in front of the musicians. The floor layout is a bit cramped, but cozy. Their back lounge is lined with leather couches, great local art work and old school 8-bit nintendo's. It could use more room, but the small space makes it feel a bit more exclusive. The bar is always packed (at least when I've been), but their bar-staff is very quick and I never waited more than a couple minutes for my order to be taken. Their food menu looks good, but I haven't had a chance to indulge quite yet. Perhaps I will update soon... I'm heading out right now! p.s. with a kickass name like Sea Monster Lounge, expectations can run a bit high. forget the fact that this bar is in wallingford, this small swanky bar could be situated in the middle of cap hill with it's clientele and atmosphere. tuesday nites is burlesque nite and always has a house band. the beer selection is good, the clientele is cool, and the music was interesting (radiohead/portishead). read more

A friend and I wanted to catch a bit of jazz on an off night (early in the week). Seamonster was one of the few places within range that had a band playing. Upon entry, it was clear that the venue was awkward in a "this place was not designed to be a music venue, or even a decent bar," kind of way. If filled to even half capacity, I'm not sure how many people could comfortably watch the band. At full capacity? I can't even imagine. Even so, we decided to give it a shot. As for the service, well, the bartender prefaced every other sentence that came out of his mouth with, "I don't mean to be rude, buuut..." And then making an observation which was clearly intended to be rude. This, when we were keeping it as simple as possible for him by waiting patiently, and drinking tall boys. We really wanted to take in a show, but, even after hearing the band warm up, we ultimately decided it wasn't worth it. The ambiance? It was pure crap. Unless you're passionate about the band, there's no making up for that. read more

Service is horrible! Do not go here! This place doesn't even deserve one star. Started out to be a great night until we ordered a mixed drink that was not as expected. After one sip, the drink was not touched and even though the bartender returned to us he never asked if there was an issue with the drink. After ordering a beer instead, and letting the bartender David know as nicely as possible we didn't like the drink, he got very angry. We were told to f-off and go somewhere else. We didn't ask for it to be taken off our bill, just let him know it wasn't what we expected. Sorry we didn't like your incorrectly made drink, there's no reason to scream at customers. Oh, man, I'm really enjoying reading these prissy reviews on here. The place is lame because you were there during a slow moment? Go hang out on The Ave and listen to "Living on a Prayer" all night, you'll find plenty of other music lovers there to sing along with you. Or how about the guy who sat staring at the menu instead of saying something to the bartender who couldn't have been more than 10 feet away (that's how long the bar is)? Did you later wait pouting in the bathroom staring at your dick waiting for someone to shake it off? Someone on here complained about it being too loud to talk... Did you make the same complaint when you went and saw One Direction at Key Arena? IT'S A LIVE MUSIC VENUE, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND DANCE! Many kudos to the owner for saying what anyone who's actually taken the time to see what Seamonster is about is surely thinking reading this nonsense: "Good Riddance!" P.S. Every town needs a "Cheers" and Seattle has one and it's called the Seamonster Lounge. Straight in the heart of Wallingford, this mythical place holds the keys to what most are searching for on any given night. You want intimate settings, come straight back after a handshake from Mark, possibly the most proficient and hardworking bar tender in Seattle, and sit on the plush couches between the old style brick walls and take in the sounds that reverb off the walls behind you. But be careful not to miss the "Any given art.." behind you as you sit, you never know what talented artist could be mirroring it live. You want to perform as well, Monday nights are a haven for some of the best unknown talent that Seattle has ever seen, hosted by "Bucket O Honey, Cephalopod, and Kent Halverson"...but ya never know when J. Jamison might pick up the ever mysterious 5th Monday and change the world again! Possibly the most endearing aspect of this little establishment in the very nerve center of Seattle, is it's ability to attract talent like a magnet attracts metal. These are trying times for sure, economically, emotionally, and most importantly...musically. You can walk in and talk shop with actual gigging musicians who are not afraid to share their hopes, dreams, and failures, and then sit and enjoy some Funky 2 Death while Andrew makes his "Chili" to order. I am a new fan. This place has been off my radar, so I was happy when a friend invited me for a short story reading during happy hour. The bar was not at all crowded when we arrived at five o'clock to hear our friend read some of her stories. During their happy hour all food and drinks are $2.00 off the price. We absolutely loved everything we ordered: mixed drinks from their cocktail menu, chicken nachos, pork tacos, chicken quesadillas, dessert. The chicken comes in three different sauces; the pork two, and you can select the kind of sauce you want. From reading the other reviews I can imagine that the lounge would be packed and possible problematic during an evening music event, but if you're looking for a tasty meal before, say, an early movie at the Guild 45th, this would be an excellent place to try. read more

The look of this place is great... like a perpetual nighttime in a veranda. Odd seating that is fun. Regular live music, and free burlesque a couple of days a week. I just have to complain that the beer list SUCKS, and that is the main reason I've only gone twice. I've lived in Seattle since 1989 and don't understand how it's taken me so long to find this place. I love it! Great music with no cover. Fun and unique atmosphere. what's not to like about the tiny little hole in the wall called the Sea Monster Lounge? the bartenders are very friendly and although i have not had any food so i can't comment on that, i always get a good, stiff drink or a draft beer. i would like to see maybe 1-3 more draft beers on tap--from local breweries but at least they have Maritime IPA and Manny's Pale Ale. this bar never has a cover and always attracts a good, local crowd and local bands. Funky2Death every friday night at 10pm is awesome. i would go here anytime but after 10pm is best for the music. it's a great place to meet locals and feel comfortable chatting it up with strangers. you can always count on the Sea Monster Lounge for goodmusic,, good drinks and a laid-back good time. read more
