What made the night truly special, though, was our server, Cosmo. It's one thing to have great service, but Cosmo went far beyond that. He took the time to talk with us, helped us choose drinks we ended up loving, and somehow managed to be attentive without ever feeling overbearing. He was funny, personable, and one of those people who instantly makes you feel comfortable. By the end of the night, it felt like we'd made a new friend. I've always believed that people make experiences memorable, and Cosmo is exactly the kind of person every restaurant hopes guests remember. We came for the rooftop views, but we'll be talking about Cosmo long after we've forgotten what we ordered. Thank you for making an already amazing night even more unforgettable. If you've spent any real time in Seattle bars, you know being the first-timer can sometimes feel a little rough. You walk in and have to earn your way into the rhythm of the place. Not here. Dark Room had that old-school hospitality I built a career around. The kind where somebody notices you. Reads the room. Knows when to talk, when to leave you alone, when to make a recommendation, when to surprise you. The drinks were strange and thoughtful and beautifully made. The food had personality. The room had soul. And then Ewan put a $12.87 "industry credit" on our bill. Twelve dollars and eighty-seven cents. It wasn't the amount. It was the gesture. A little nod across the bar world. A tiny act of recognition from one hospitality person to another. After 30 years in this business, I can tell you that those things matter. A lot. Because the best bars don't just serve drinks. They create a temporary world -- one with its own language, rituals, surprises, and small acts of grace. They remind you that hospitality is not about being impressed. It is about being welcomed. The staff seemed distracted, but they at least did not appear to be cranky or hostile. The karaoke selection was lacking, and as a queer man I was uncomfortable seeing that all David Bowie songs were pointedly crossed out in the books. Reviews had suggested that the Monkey Pub, despite being located in the U District, had a clientele of more than just college students; this may be true on non-karaoke nights, but when I went, it had the same college-kid crowd as anywhere else in the neighborhood. Drink selection was average. Indeed, the bar itself was largely average. I found no evidence of anything particularly dramatically terrible on my visit to the Monkey Pub, but nothing to get excited about either. Only worth it for karaoke if you're desperate. Probably an okay place to get a drink, but I didn't really detect much of the character and "local flavor" that usually makes a good dive bar worth the trip.

I wanted to write this review and respond to a few of the negative reviews. It is clear that as much as I would like it to, this bar isn't for everyone. I think everyone should at least visit it once. Different nights, different time windows, and different bands draw different crowds. This gem or diamond in the rough is a neighborhood bar and a musician's bar run by musicians. Some of the 1 and 2 star people may be more at home at the Iron Bull across the way or at a bigger venue. This is a family small venue vibe, so be prepared for it. Many people who play your bigger venues play here for free, so go ahead and pay $10-20 to see them at X venue. The hipsters are present, but most of the people here are not those typical people you find in downtown Seattle or Capital Hill. These people are cool. They are involved in the music scene. Most of the people in the bar are warm and friendly. It is like a Cheers vibe once you get to know folks. There are some patrons who are a bit weed heavy, but unfortunately weed and jazz/funk music tend to go hand in hand. I agree, they should not be right outside the door. They should be around the corner like most people do when they are there. The door man should handle that. Sometimes you will just be in a bar with idiots sometimes, but overall the people there have shown me nothing but love and respect. Friday nights are by far the busiest nights because people like to boogie and have a good time. There is a huge amount of college students during school season because they want to go dancing somewhere close. I too was sad when Rain Sushi closed down next door and was excited to see them re-open up in The Seamonster and offer Sushi. Rain Sushi chefs were some of the best in town. And if you were gluten and dairy free, they hooked you up if you let them know. I do understand that closing that down was important when they had their kid, so hopefully one day they will open up somewhere again. They are awesome people and amazing. Bottom line, this bar no longer offers Sushi, so consider going elsewhere or maybe check out May Tai for some really great authentic Tai food or Kabul for some great Afghan Cuisine. There are so many great places to eat in Wallyhood and surrounding areas. Now, let's talk about The Seamonster food offerings. While they may not have their focus on their food, they make some tasty goods to fill up on or simply have a snack. Their food quality has improved even over what it used to be which was still really good. There will be a bit of Spanish flavor in their cuisine because of the owner. They have great soups, tacos (way better than the roach coaches and healthy), and their food is always changing to have some variety. Because I have to eat gluten and dairy free, I ask for options that does not have that. The tacos on corn tortillas are your best bet. Make sure to let them know you want food without particular ingredients you are sensitive or allergic to in them. The musicians here are world class. People from out of town come to this bar because they are that good. The ones with the biggest draws tend to play on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. I say Tuesday because that is when McTuff plays. Funky 2 Death plays on Friday. The bar owner even jumps in on a song or two. This band has played the opening of Seahawks games and have had some pretty notable and amazing guests including Mycle Wastman from The Voice. If you are lucky, you may even hear the group leader aka "Woogie D" DJ and play some classics. This is one of the best open mics in town. Majority of the people who perform at them are accomplished musicians and even ones that you have to pay to see. The only thing is you should be prepared to buy a few beers or ciders when you come to play. It help keeps the bar open. And you likely will form some great networking contacts that will help you get gigs or meet other musicians that will help your career. Also, many musicians who play here teach others, so if you need lessons, there are many who are there who can help you grow professionally in music. This bar is not perfect. It can always use improving, but the owner is committed to making it better. He has done some remodeling and improving already. This place has seriously improved. There is no old beer or pee smells at all because they take the time to clean the floors. I however can't always vouch for some seldom patrons that occasionally may walk in. Those that insult the people there don't know them like I do. There is actually quite a diverse demographic present at various times in the bar. All the different stereotypes typically show up here at one point or another. One thing I have noticed is it is a place you can show up and be yourself as long as you aren't an a-hole. So go ahead and talk to some people. They likely will talk to you back and even may make an instant friend. See you there!! read more

It was a Friday night. My cell phone died. I kindly asked the bar tender for a phone number for a cab, not the phone to use, just a number. He was nice and handed the door man, Sean (sp?) from Detroit, a cell phone to call me a cab. We walked outside. He put his arms down and said "can't you just Google a cab yourself?" My [courteous] appeal that my phone was dead made no difference. I walked back to West Seattle starting at 1:30 am, a 12.4 mile walk according to Google maps. I made it home just before 6 am. On my walk home, I stuck to main roads and bus routes, thinking I could hail a cab or jump on a late night bus. I had no luck. Since nothing in this town ever seems to be open late, or 24-hrs, there was nowhere to stop in and try to use a pay phone. I know many places reviewed on Yelp monitor their reputation here. If this is the case, I encourage the management/ownership at Sea Monster to remind their staff that calling cabs from a bar is not a big deal and to always keep things in perspective while being courteous (lesson #1 in "Roadhouse," an awesomely-bad movie). Working at a bar isn't like being a combat medic or something, the consequences of your actions aren't that serious. So where is the stressed out attitude coming from? read more

This place is rich with the sweetness in life and for the most part repels the soul sucking people that only feel at home swimming in their own shit pile. Originally opened in 1934, the Blue Moon carries the kind of atmosphere you cannot recreate -- walls covered in decades of music, art, stickers, photographs, and stories. A dimly lit room packed with musicians, writers, artists, and people who genuinely appreciate creativity in its raw form. Throughout the night, the stage moved between live music, poetry, and performances from local artists while the crowd filled the tavern from the bar to the stage floor. Places like this remind me why independent art still matters. As an author traveling all over the United States -- and as someone who lived in the Seattle area for 2 1/2 years -- standing on that stage reading poetry from Purple Rose in a venue with this much history behind it was really something special. What I loved most was how welcoming the environment was. This is a very LGBTQ-friendly, art-friendly space where people genuinely support one another. If you are brand new to open mics or nervous about sharing your work for the first time, this is the kind of place where you will absolutely be shown kindness and encouragement. There were so many talented musicians, poets, and performers there, and you could really feel the appreciation for creativity throughout the room. The setup of the tavern itself is awesome. The stage and seating area wrap around the bar in almost a U-shape, so you can really choose your own vibe for the night. If you want to stay close to the performances and music, there is a dance floor and table area near the stage. If you want something more relaxed, you can hang back near the bar, have a drink, and still enjoy the atmosphere without being directly in the middle of everything. They also have a full bar, arcade games, board games, books to read, and even a small library on the shelves throughout the tavern. Somewhere inside, you may even find a signed copy of Purple Rose that I left hidden and dedicated to the historic Blue Moon itself. Beautiful evening with wonderful people. The show had sold out several days before and we were all anticipating a magical and celebratory evening. Musicians from LA had flown in to accompany her, family members flew in, friends from all areas of her life bought their tickets weeks ahead. My friend's husband, mother in law, son, daughter in law, niece and I arrived at 5:30pm, ahead of the official doors opening at 6:00pm. We entered, hands with fresh flowers for my friend, excited to be there. She had asked her husband and son to arrive early to set up the merchandise table before the club opened. We also wanted to help her with any last minute details. We were met at the door by a tall man with a long white beard wearing a black baseball cap. Instead of welcoming us or kindly telling us that the club was not yet open, he barked that the club was not open until 6pm. We explained we were the performer's family and we came to assist her with merchandise and signage set up. He then told us to "make ourselves small" because they were setting up tables and we'd be in the way. Then he rudely asked if we had tickets. As if her family wouldn't have taken care of that, knowing the show would sell out? The entire interaction with him was completely unpleasant and unnerving. He was also mean and nasty to some of the other performers who had arrived earlier to rehearse. I have no idea what this man's position is at The Royal Room. I sincerely hope he's not the owner or GM. I would strongly suggest someone gives him basic training in customer service. As the first person guests meet upon arrival, he makes a terrible impression. Thankfully, the rest of the staff made up for his rude behavior by being helpful and attentive. The show itself was incredible as I knew it would be. The food was good and the ambiance was cool. I would consider going there again to see a friend's show and I might recommend the venue to others, but I would definitely warn them about the inhospitable treatment we received. Hopefully, the next time I'm visiting that man's behavior will be improved.

The waitress was pleasant and served without being intrusive during the show. The Royal Room is really nice on the inside. They do a lot of swing and jazz there, but it's a pretty small venue. I'ld call it more comfortable than quaint. Parking was a total pita, but the sound mixer was on point and the music was clear for every instrument with nothing over-riding anything else unnecessarily.

I have to look far and wide for anything like that in Seattle.(Still a native, so put down the pitch forks) Here it was. It was $25/person and my husband and I are trying to be prudent with money. It is very, very hard to save when you can't go out for less than $100 these days. I work in education so.... yeah. I thought we were late to the show so I asked for a discount on the cover. They said the band just started and they couldn't do that. I apologized and said I wasn't trying to haggle at all. The staff was very kind to us, even tho we were waffling. I've come to expect the cold front. The bartender who served me at the comedy show just before the Tavern refused to make any human contact. He just handled my cash and handed me my drink, like a robot. I still have warm blood pumping through my veins. Tractor Tavern was so warm and friendly. They gave us time to talk about it outside. We stepped outside. The music was percolating through the glass. I am a classic rock junkie. I took us back in. At the bar, I asked for a double. The bartender moved to the side to reveal a sign that said "no doubles". I laughed and apologized. He was kind and made a friendly joke. I seriously don't expect anyone to be nice to me anymore. I expect a chilly silence. This was so welcoming and warm. I wasn't treated like a jerk even tho some of my questions could warrant that response. They allowed me to be new and be human. The music was amazing. Let the children lose it. Let the children use it. Let all the children boogie. Thank you for keeping the human vibe alive and friendly. We will be back.

Best Nashville bar that's not in Nashville. I've never been to a bad show here…read more I've seen many performances here that I know the artists could be playing in much larger venues. Either the Tractor is really good at booking, or the artists like playing there, or both. Lots of great restaurants nearby.

Expanded heated area toward the front with 2 rollup doors adds to the capacity. There is also a smaller upstairs area with a second bar, bathroom and great views overlooking the main area. We saw a couple of bands on a Friday night and there were wall to wall people so you couldn't really dance. The stage is large and set up nicely and the lights during the shows were really awesome. Lots to do in this part of Fremont so maybe get there early for parking and grab some food before a show.

The burger itself was well seasoned and I thought the grilled onions were a great touch. I found that the esquite was especially flavorful given that it's made with chicken broth. I think it would be even better served with something that can be used to dip in the broth. Maybe even the fries? The quesabirria was piping hot, crispy and comes with beef consommé.

The Drag show was entertaining, but the acts ranged from really amateur to a few seasoned "queens". There were some cool people who I chatted with a cool couple who wanted to also get their goth vibes on and drove down from I believe Everett. The bar, even though busy had a cool bartender who made good drinks, and the prices weren't bad. I bought rounds for my friends and myself through the night and paid less than $50 so I was really surprised. Chill vibes here. Would go to another event here.

My girlfriends and I came here last night to see the Turning Point US Gay drag show. We pre-paid…read morefor our tickets months in advance and when we got into line we went through security. The line was leading to a table where they were checking bags before walking past the security guard who had a metal detector wand. None of us had any bags on us so she turned to ask the security guard if we needed to stop at the table or if it's 2 separate lines. Before she could even say anything he snapped at her to get back in line. She backed up a step and apologized immediately and he responded with saying "Patience is a virtue." But his tone sounded so disgusted and intimidating. This security guard needs to be let go after seeing so many other people seemingly have the same experience with him. He was short, about 5'7. Dark hair pulled back in a ponytail with a hat on turned backwards. This interaction happened around 7 pm right as the show was starting on 09/25/2026. I wish this was the extent of our interactions with him. During the show the drag kings and queens were mocking Charlie Kirk and other republican politicians. That's clearly why we were all here and this security guard throughout the show was walking past us and monitoring us. Every time he passed us he looked super pissed off, like he wasn't happy with the show that was being put on. This was further proven to us when we left the show after it ended. We were waiting around the corner on the curb for our designated driver to pick us up. The same friend from before leaned down on the step above the curb and the security guard came out and told her to move because the door would swing open. But my friend was only leaning against the very edge of that step where there was a railing so the door wouldn't have come close enough to hit her. Then the security guard asked us in an extremely snarky tone if we enjoyed the... "thing." We said we did and he just looked pissed off. Then he went inside and slammed the door open on purpose and said in another snarky tone, "See! I told you so!" Other than that, we loved the show!! The drinks were super bomb and the venue seemed cozy. It was our first time at a drag show and we tried to have fun despite the nasty attitude of the short misogynistic predatory security guard.
