It never made it though. We gobbled it all up on the Tube ride. Our fellow passengers appeared to be salivating as my wife and I enjoyed every bit of our fish & chips! The food was truly delicious! Cannot wait to return here in the future. Just too bad that they are far from my home. :(

Since moving (and before) I have tried Indian restaurants all over and Nilima has always stood out for me. Having eaten here (or taken-away) more times than I remember, I've never had a bad meal, at worst - nice. The portions are quite generous and the costs are on the good side of average. The food itself has my full adoration. I've missed this place. Several months ago, two other Indian restaurants have opened up almost next door but I hardly ever see anyone in them. Remarkably, the room I'm in is colder than outside, this may be because instead of an extractor fan above the door there is just a large round hole in the window with some chicken wire over it. I accept that learning a language is difficult and I'm sure the small Chinese lady speaks better English than I do Cantonese (Mandarin?) but when it takes several minutes to sort out a food order to which the end result is "no, we cannot do that for the menu is fixed" (or something like that), this isn't particularly helpful as the menu, as it is, is particularly uninspiring. China Kitchen offer exactly what you would expect to see on a Chinese take-away menu and nothing more. Which is a disappointment, having to choose between one bog-standard meal and another. We settled on a pork dish and a bean-curd dish - with rice! Free Prawn Crackers! As one would expect but they must have forgotten the Prawn flavouring as these were completely tasteless. My Pork meal was almost to an average standard, my rice, however, failed to reach those dizzying heights - and I was the lucky one. The ladyfriends meal was so substandard half of it was thrown away. Rice at it's dullest was the highlight for her as the bean-curd lacked any taste and the awful consistency made this meal untenable . Not that I'd go back anyway but the state of my bowls in the immediate aftermath and even now, the following morning, dictate that I'd be a fool if I did. It sits in the middle of Wimbledon Broadway and has a lot of competition from fast food joints and chain restaurants right around it. The shop is certainly nicer than an average kebab takeaway with a seating area. You can see that the meat for the schwarma kebabs on the spit is made up of strips of proper meat and not just an amorphous lump of goodness knows what. The shish kebabs are also good. The kebabs are washed down with some nice fresh juices. The next time you're trawling round Wimbledon for some fast food, give Flame a try.

The burgers here are pretty good actually and it seems like a well run and clean environment. The prices are pretty good too. I once asked for cheesy chips here (a regular northern take-away option) but the best they could do was offer me a box of chips, which were better than most take-away kebab shop chips in London, with a slice of plastic cheese on top. (It wasn't actually plastic but you know the ones i mean?!). It was quite funny really and i didn't mind because the guys in Flame are a good laugh and friendly. They also gave me unlimited amounts of ketchup to make up for their lack of grated cheese.

However, last night we stood at the counter waiting for 10 minutes, while no one working there even acknowledged our presence in the shop. Instead they took 3 separate phone calls and looked after other customers, while we just stood there feeling frustrated and somewhat lost. We understand that they will have busy periods, but it takes no more than a couple seconds to acknowledge someone and just let them know you'll be with them in a couple minutes. We walked a bit further down the road into a take away that was similarly busy and were pleasantly surprised to be greeted as soon as we walked in the door! My advice, although the food isn't too bad, for the price you pay, don't try this unless they are quiet!

I ordered up a chicken nugget meal with fries and a diet coke which was always my favorite as a kid in the states. The smell and taste of nuggets always had put a smile on my face then, and I was always overjoyed when my folks gave in and bought me a happy meal, which was not very often. I walked over to a seat by myself and chowed down. My first thought was hmm.. nuggets in England are really bland. Well I paid for it so I ate them and my fries. I even won a free cheeseburger with the Monopoly game they are currently running. Hurray! About ten minutes later I was stuffed and ready to continue my shopping for the day when suddenly a jolt in my stomach stopped me on the street ugh. Maybe I walked too fast after eating and got a cramp? Mild pains continued throughout the day. I was still full and so I skipped dinner that night but went for an evening walk, hoping to walk off the fat and grease I just consumed. When I was about 5 minutes away from my house.. that is when it hit me. I thought my intestines had ripped open and I wanted to fall to the floor and cry but I knew my fate was far worse. I needed a toilet and I needed it fast. The chips were roughly cut, soft and deep-fried chippy-style and in a generous portion for what was the smallest of the portions available. However, the real star of the show were their mushy peas, which apparently they make fresh every day. Unlike so many other mushy peas, these peas were not dry, but beautifully moist, with an excellent water-to-peas ratio. Heck, I might just say that they were the best mushy peas I've ever tasted. Then there was the price - £5 for the fish, chips and mushy peas. Pretty incredible, but something I suspect they were laying on for me as their recent rebranding from the Golden Plaice Fish Bar to Maria's Fish & Kebabs store meant it took me a while to find it. So I'll have to return to establish their true prices. The staff were impeccably friendly and helpful, the interior clean and there were a few tables and chairs at which customers could eat their meals. As their name suggests, they also serve a wide variety of kebabs, which I haven't tried. Overall? Well worth checking out if you're in Fulham and need a fish 'n chip fix.
