Surprisingly good Italian food in Shek O!…read more I'd heard about a place in Shek O with good pizzas, but struggled to imagine such a place in the beach town. Well, it's not exactly the Italian restaurant you'd expect. Down an ally with a few other local eateries, Black Sheep (now apparently called "New Black Sheep") has an Italian menu mixed with the decor of a Hawaiian tiki bar. Although definitely not the typical setting for a Italian restaurant on the northern half of the HK, don't let this stop you from trying it if you're down at Shek O or making it an a destination for a change of scenery from the usual Central, Sheung Wan, Wan Chai eating areas. The food is pretty good and easily compares to the quality (probably better actually) than the standard places in Soho. Our small group shared a sample of dishes, sacrificing a few items for our next visit. The complimentary bread basket with hot slices of Italian bread set a high standard for the rest of the meal. Served with the options of butter, roasted cloves of garlic, pesto sauce and olive spread, we couldn't help but ask for another round as we waited for our entrees. The house green salad was also a surprise winner. With cooked asparagus and a light vinaigrette dressing, it was a nice refreshing start to our meal. The pizzas lived up to the hype. I particularly like the veggie pizzas with the roasted big strips of eggplant and zucchini. I'd recommend the spinach lasagna as well. The extra sauce and overflowing ricotta cheese were a great excuse to use some of the extra bread. While I don't expect this place to win 3 Michelin stars, it's certainly worth a visit if you're in the area or looking to have a nice meal with friends outside the normal haunts of Soho, Central, Wan Chai etc.

That's exactly what I got when my friends and I checked out Motorino for dinner one evening. Good ol' New York style pizza in one of HK's largest expat neighborhoods. The last time I ate pizza in Hong Kong as a child, I had sworn off it for good. Now that I'm older, I have a slightly bougier pallet that can help me discern what is good and bad pizza in non Western countries. On a Saturday evening, the restaurant was very much packed so making a reservation in advance is recommended. The four of us shared a bottle of wine which our server kept chilled the entire time. The restaurant is dimly lit making it a good spot for dates. We started off with their Eggplants Dish and Prosciutto Salad. Both were a delight with the salad being a surprise hit. Great slices of meat to accompany our medley of greens. Both came out relatively quick after placing our orders and right before our pizza. Finally, the main entree were delivered in the form of a Spinach Prosciutto Pizza (do you see the trend here?) We absolutely loved the combination even if it seemed very simple. The crust was very fluffy and replicated that wood fire taste very well. Slices were not completely thin like New Yorkers seem to enjoy and were easy to hold and enjoy. Overall, really good pizza for being in Hong Kong. I'd definitely come back again if I was craving a taste of Italian in this mega city.

Motorino is hands down my favorite pizza restaurant…read more I've been to multiple locations of Motorino, both in HK and NYC, and it's always consistent. A little expensive for pizza, but since I do not eat it often, I think it's well worth it. The brussel sprout pizza is my favorite, and unique (I've never seen it at another pizza place). I'm also into any pizza with prosciutto now it. Make sure to save room for dessert - the cheesecake is fantastic.

Having been there multiple times, I was a bit surprised when on this recent visit is when they handed us a stamped loyalty card. I asked our sweet server if this was something new and she said no. I asked her why they didn't inform us of that on our previous visits and she, of course, didn't have an answer, but politely mentioned she's seen us before and that's why she gave it to us. The pizzas are good. They've added cocktails recently here, I reckon. Their menu keeps changing. The one time we had antipasti there - smoked eggplant, my jaw was on the floor with the price to portion size proportion, more because the taste disappointed as well. But the good news is that their pizzas don't disappoint. As with other Blacksheep Restaurants, they have the friendliest of staff. Pictures on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager

We walked around the Causeway Bay Area and noticed on the Fashion Walk sign a list of restaurants. Wildfire Pizzabar and Grill was at the end of the block of Paterson Street around the corner. We ordered a shrimp and scallop pizza and beef cheek fettuccine dish to share between the three of us. The pizza was thin crust and only comes in one size, the beef was so tender and flavourful and it was just enough food for us. They offer beer, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. For $88, only $10 more than the no alcohol drinks, I went with the lemongrass lychee mojito. It was light and refreshing. After 2:30 p.m. they have a special menu, all-you-can-eat for two which is a platter and beer or pop. The staff speak English very well and offered great service! She made suggestions regarding the menu. The view from the window was beautiful, the buildings, water and boats, etc. could be seen. I heard this location is a nicer restaurant compared to the others they have.
