This place was recommended by another vender at the Granville Market for candied salmon. We were lucky enough to have Brian help us. He gave us great recommendations and was so friendly, energetic and patient with us. We really loved the smoked salmon straw candy and the smoked salmon peppered nuggets. The maple nuggets were a little too sweet for me but my boyfriend enjoyed it! read more

Seafood City - Candied salmon - Seafood Markets Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

My family and I love going to Granville Island Market. out of all the seafood markets there, Seafood City is the one we are always drawn too. Something about the staff, quality of the seafood, their competative prices and value of their products. This day I went to pick up some seagrapes I had put my name down for. They are able to import items that are very difficult and costly to get on my own via mail order services. The staff are always super friendly (not gonna lie, I was secretly hoping the dude who served me would asked me out for coffee haha). The vibe from this shop is very happy and upbeat. We will be customers for a long time to come read more

A seriously legit seafood and fish market! Although it may be located in a very touristy market - these folks are here really for the locals. They have an excellent selection of everything you need from local to imported catch, including excellent sashimi sushi grade fish! They are not an eatery so everything is to-go and they don't serve things with a plate and fork and knife etc. BUT they are all super helpful and you can easily get creative and make up your own amazing spread of eats! We bought some Otoro (sold by weight/pound) and we cut it up ourselves and it was DIVINE! They also have Uni trays and Ikura as well. Take these home for some amazing custom build sushi parties! read more

Of the 2 places in Granville Island that sell the west coast delicacy of Candied Salmon, Seafood City indeed is the most affordable with equal quality! PROS: -the most affordable option at $26.90/lbs for any of the 3 flavours: salmon candied straw, maple, and peppered. -Maple Nugget (large cubes of moist salmon that was sweetened just enough) -Salmon candied straw (much more firmer and sweeter) CONS: -They don't allow for samples. So I ordered a couple pieces of each flavour to try first -Mixed reviews about the service. The older lady that took my 1st order was very abrupt and unfriendly. The younger man that took my order during my 2nd visit was a lot more patient and accommodating. read more

My mom got me some spicy candied salmon (not to thick but thin) and regular candied salmon (pretty thick cut). The spicy one has a kick! Give it a few seconds and BAM... It's pretty good. The regular one is pretty thick and tasty. Not bad but the price here is crazy expensive. But good quality. read more

Seafood City is the first fish counter when you enter at the east side of the market (the Arts Club side). Excellent service and fresh product every time! My go to for over 25 years! Highly recommend. read more

I trust Seafood City for its premium fresh live Dungeness crab. Friendly and helpful staff in a clean working environment, they'll package that healthy, happy, juicy meaty crab for ya. ($20/lb in late July 2021). Paid parking at Granville Island I think was around $1.40 for 30 minutes. Note: name has no affiliation to the Filipino markets in Vegas and Seattle's South Center. Thanks Ray, the family LOVED the crab I steamed up for dinner, we ate all five! read more

Definitely my usual for seafood on Granville Island, Seafood City knows their stuff, as they should after 25 years in the biz. There's something good about buying Kumamotos and Kusshis from a kind elderly Japanese woman, and that sashimi-grade tuna looks delish, though I've yet to try it. The oysters, manilas, local spot prawns, and everything else I've had from here is top notch - reliable and exceedingly fit for fine entertaining. The only unbonus I can think of: they're heavy on the unsustainable packaging - sometimes double or tripple bagging in non-biodegradable plastic bags. Switch to biodegradable bags and that last star might be in order! read more

If you want to try some salmon jerky, this is the spot to check out. I bought some candy straw salmon jerky ($19.90 lb) and hot bits ($24.90 lb) to take home for my family. The jerky must be refrigerated so make sure you have a cooler to store this tasty stuff. read more

Located inside the Granville island public market, Seafood City sells a great amount of fresh seafood at very affordable prices. We were just shopping around the market, when we saw their oyster tank with Kusshi and Kumamoto oysters. The Kusshis were going at around $15-$17 per dozen, while the kumamotos were going for about $19-$20 per dozen. The prices were pretty fair, and definitely on the cheaper side since we had to bring it home to shuck it ourselves. They packed the oysters nicely with a bag of ice to prevent them from spoiling. Service was fast and great. The oysters turned out very fresh and definitely well worth the price. If only we had more days in Vancouver, we'll definitely go back there again! read more

The best selection of seafood probably in all Canada, amazing selection, very fresh seafood and good prices, nothing else comes close.

"RAY IM HERE FOR THE GOOD STUFF" - this is how it starts, Ray proceeds over to the fresh Hamachi and hooks it up! Seafood City has become a favorite stop of mine over the weekend. The Hamachi is what I go there for, it is melt in your mouth... scallops are fantastic as well. I am always happy with the prices! I have had great service from everyone who has helped me. Staff seems to genuinely care and are passionate about giving tips for cooking and preperation. Place is always busy, I have never thought it was not fresh! * Thanks for the tip of throwing the sashimi in the freezer for 30 min before cutting, slices are much crisper this way Thanks Seafood City! See you soon! read more

Expensive and not fresh!!!!! I feel like this is such a tourist trap. Well, considering it's on Granville Island I'm not really sure what I was expecting. I'm sorry for being the person to rain on all the good review's parades. I wanted to like it, I really did. Reminds me of Pike Market in Seattle... except even more expensive. Most of the fish etc. are put on ice and in the open for display. The also have exotic selection of seafood such as uni (sea urchin), frog, and I believe it was monkfish. I went here in need of some crab and lobster for a boil I was throwing with little time left to run to T&T. I came here instead. The service was very nice, the people were helpful and the lady tried to get me to buy other stuff, but I was on a mission. A little bit appalled by the pricing, I still had to get it. There was no problem UNTIL I cooked the seafood.... the meat was tiny and shrunken, the lobster wasn't very hard-shelled - means that everything had been in the tanks for a while. My father was a fisherman back in the day so he taught me about good seafood. I wouldn't go here for seafood ever again, even if it meant no seafood. Very disappointed. Much rather go to the Asian supermarkets where their seafood sells frequently so at least you know you will have the freshness. read more

Uhhhh, do you love seafood? do you love eating? do you like to eat seafood that you can cook yourself because they'll make great recommendations? who the heck don't?! I come here fairly regularly and always have great service (thanks Brian/Ray!). They occasionally get sea urchins, and if you haven't had uni, well it's time to start.... now... like go right now, why are you even reading this? Besides the sea urchin i'd highly recommend the salmon maple nuggets. Boneless and sweet, their a great protein snack with a bit of sugar for anybody that lifts out there. Other recommendations? kusshi oysters! always fresh! read more

Seafood City - Shoutout to Brian and Ray! Thanks for the uni hook up - Seafood Markets Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

I picked up some delicious wild salmon here. The lady on staff offered a lot of help for me to make my decision and she was really perky. She explained the different types of salmon they had in stock, pointed out which was farmed and which was wild and also noted whether the fish had been previously frozen or not. There were also steaks and fillets to choose from. These are all important factors in fish shopping and in the price of the fish! I chose wild Coho steaks and they was absolutely delicious. It cost $15 for two big steaks. read more

I was surprised to find the variety of salmon jerkies. I bought 1/2 pound of smoked salmon hot bits and 1/2 pound of smoked sockeye jerky. Both have good savory flavors, the jerky is a bit on the chewy side. Price is reasonable, too bad there isn't a salmon jerky place like this in NY. read more

I going to call them the best of the Three fish markets inside Granville Island Market for the Friendly Service and good selection of seafood. I bought some local caught Halibut for Dinner the guy behind the counter help chose the right portion for my needs and we joked a little as the transaction went down. Halibut in season is a treat. read more

Amazing service, fresh seafood, good prices - what more could you want from a fish shop? This is my favourite place to get any kind of seafood in Vancouver - they're always very friendly, helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. They only sell the freshest seafood, you won't be disappointed. Dungeness Crab, Spot Prawns and scallops are what i usually shop for. yum! read more

Easily the best seafood market in Vancouver, bar none. The selection is incredible, from multiple kinds of mussels to Japanese sea urchin (great for 'uni donburi' for you true sushi lovers out there) to the freshest monk fish. The local spot prawns, when they're in season are just insane - just throw a couple of pounds into a wok with some crushed garlic and sea salt, and together with an ice-cold Granville Island lager and you're set! If you're looking for *really* fresh, high quality seafood, then this is your place. Yeah, if you're looking for cheap, low grade (imitation fish posing as the expensive stuff), then yes you'll find other places. But if you want quality, S.City is it. What makes this place stand out from other places is the staff. Brian Hamatake (spelling?) is the owner, he took over from his mom and dad, who started the place ages ago. I've been coming here for about 7-8 years, and Brian has had virtually the same people serving customers. These people know their fish, ask them anything about the fish you're interested in. They'll educate you on the types of fish, how to distinguish between fresh and not-so fresh, the best ways to cook the fish, etc. These folks live and breath seafood - and that's the ideal seafood vendor. read more

Great seafood stall in Granville Public Market! I've had their sea urchin before but today I was running around trying to find clam nectar. Lobster man? Had none. Big seafood shop on the west side of the market? All sold out. For some reason, they recommended me to go to China Sea market which looked puzzled about why I'd go to them... (remind me not to go to big seafood shop because they tried to stop their competition from getting business) But then I went shopping for vegetables and lo and behold, Seafood City, which had not one but two types of clam nectar! I am saved! They were also really nice, pointing out that there was a major price advantage between the two. Pleased, I ended up buying three cans total! Very good guys who I've had good service from before, when I needed scallops and other items. Very tasty seafood indeed. I am looking forward to my chowder tonight! read more

OK, I comparison shop when buying seafood, it's all about the quality and source. I picked up some Saltspring Island mussels one Sunday and many were dead (didn't open when steamed, they were DOA). Weeks later I was back for more mussels and carefully picked through the holding tank and filled the scoop then had it dropped into the bag by the fellow at the counter, while he was weighing them I mentioned these looked better as the last batch had allot of dead ones in it. He handed me the bag and wouldn't take any money, THAT IS SERVICE. I wasn't fishing for a deal I was just telling him for his information. He said "enjoy these". read more

Despite there being 2 other fish shops on the island, I always come here. Partly because they carry things the others don't (like mackerel and herring when available) and mostly because the family that runs it is so attentive and friendly. Always, always, always they are smiling and helpful. Even when busy they offer to clean your fish if it is whole. When I get service like I do here, I will always come back. read more

I live near Granville Isle. I always walk by Seafood City as it's right my preferred entrance way. I'm not too familiar with Seafood but was looking for some sockeye salmon as per my mom (they were having people over to their place). My job was to get the salmon. Wow! Quick and helpful service (I never buy fish, so the clerk was extremely helpful) from a gentleman there (I should've got his name), he was so quick he called me by name cuz he saw my name on my bank card. Best first impression ever! Thanks so much to the gentleman who gave me a hand. I'll definitely be back have already and will continue this business to family and friends! Cheers, LW. read more

Loved the salmon - spicy , candied , peppered ! Yummy ! I went with relatives from Washington and I was really impressed

Avoid the candied salmon. No samples, no exchanges. Ended up leaving a nearly full bag at the counter.

I came across this place as I was venturing through Granville Island trying to find a good seafood market to get some fresh oysters for dinner. The lady that was helping me was super nice. The seafood here is definitely fresh. I bought four dozen kusshi oysters and one pound each of mussels and clams. The oysters were soooooo delicious. Sweet flavor and great quality. The clams and mussels were very meaty. I'm definitely coming back when I'm looking for good fresh seafood!! read more
