I was searching everywhere for candied salmon, which is really having a moment on TikTok. I really enjoyed their candied nuggets, which were a very reasonable $8.60/100g. The salmon are cured with salt and brown sugar, smoked, and then glazed with maple syrup before getting smoked again. I thought they had a very sweet and sticky finish which made for an addictive bite. I also purchased the maple smoked salmon candy gift pack ($25) as a souvenir. The salmon is brined in maple syrup and cracked pepper, and gets vacuum sealed so no refrigeration is required (the nuggets need to be kept cold so they don't travel well). The gift pack was not as sweet as the nuggets and tasted more like traditional hot smoked salmon, which was a little disappointing. The staff are very helpful and experienced. read more

Longliner is one of countless vendors within the Granville Island Public Market. Briefly, this large converted warehouse is now home to plenty of restaurants, grocers, and specialty merchants. The Market is immediately adjacent to the marina and False Creek inlet, and the remainder of Granville Island is home to countless boutiques and art galleries. It feels like a contact sport to park on the island and find seating within the market. Within the market, the background color palette is industrial brown and grey, but many vendors add a flourish of color. Skylights shine down onto exposed rafters, and heavy-duty lighting fixtures hang from the soaring roof. No music is playing, but the metal walls echo with the din of chatter. Longliner's lightwood-finished stall has a cardinal, accent-lit rockfish logo. The back wall features numerous old and modern family photos. The long seafood display case is dominated by salmon and topped with an industrial scale and a variety of sauces. My partner and I arrived at the Market for weekday lunch, and it was moderately busy. We were already planning to order some candied salmon, but we were surprised to find 2 varieties: Smoked & Peppered and Maple Syrup Glazed. We both preferred the not-too-sweet former option (although the larger chunks were more unwieldy), but the distinctly maple-y latter variety was enjoyable in small bites. The staff were eager to help, and they were spot on in estimating weights. Salmon nuggets run just under $30 a pound (and the minimum order is 100g, or about $6). For a uniquely Canadian snack, Longliner's salmon nuggets are an adventurous option, but, for the price, I don't think I would incorporate them into my routine even if they were readily available. read more

And the salmon jerky was smokey and salty; it was the driest/chewiest of the three, but still good texture compared to prepackaged/vacuum-sealed jerkies you get from a store. Overall I enjoyed all three and would recommend purchasing a variety of their smoked salmon from the display case so you can experience different flavor profiles and textures. No clue why this place is only 3.5 stars on Yelp.  I've come here a few times and both the food and service has been nothing but spectacular!  After seeing the candied salmon here, on a YouTube vlog, I bookmarked it for my next visit to Vancouver.  That was about 5 or 6 years ago.  And, I've been there about 5 or 6 times since seeing it (would've been more, if it wasn't for "the 'vid").  There are tons of great options at Granville Market, but this is definitely at the top of my list.  Who would've thought that maple syrup and smoked salmon would go together so perfectly?  Yes, it's a little pricey (about $15 for a small container), but it's not like I'm coming here one a week.  I usually bring a combination of both the small and large containers, back for myself, friends, and family, and they wrap it up for me (an ice pack is even included at no charge), so it's ready for the trip back to the Bay Area. While the candied salmon is my favorite here, I have also tried some of the other smoked salmons and they are also excellent.  I couldn't try their fresh seafood as my trips there are usually fairly short. I saw online that one of the things to try at Granville Market is candied salmon. I wasn't sure if that's the same thing as jerk salmon but it sounded interesting enough to try. I thought they would package the salmon dry without refrigeration but its actually located with their other fresh seafood. I ordered the Maple Syrup Salmon and it was amazing, wow! The salmon itself is extremely tender and the sauce allowed the outsides to have a slight caramelization that was not overly sweet but had a bit of a jerky texture. My only regret is not getting more of it. Overall, definitely a must try at Granville Market and I seriously cannot recommend it more. I can't wait to go back to get more of these candied salmon. read more

Update: After additional effort, Longliner softened its position and agreed to credit me for the purchase price of the salmon with which I was unhappy. The fish I purchased with my credit was excellent. I forgive Longliner, appreciate that I was finally accommodated, and consider myself a customer again. Would I come back? This is one of the many places that is located in Granville Market. I saw on Pinterest that candied salmon is a must try when you are in Canada. I came here, tried it and it is not for me. For about $7 USD/100 grams, you get about 8 pieces. The candied salmon is basically salmon jerky that has been marinated in maple syrup. It has the taste of the salmon, texture of jerky and a little sweetness from the maple syrup. Your fingers get sticky from eating this so be sure to get some napkins. They have two types that you can choose from. One is in cubes and the other is in strips. This place is good to try but sorry I am not a fan... I wish that they would allow you to buy 1 or 2 pieces because I ended up throwing the rest away. I'm sure they allow you to sample one piece but I think it would be weird to not buy anything after considering the price of the salmon. read more

The Moorehead family has owned this business for a very long time and they are one of the original tenants at the Granville Public Market. The family takes a lot of pride in what they do. Longliner had a lot of different seafood options. You can safely ship seafood home or they have containers that are airline approved to take home that fresh seafood. They have every type of seafood you can imagine and maybe even one or two you have never seen. I ordered a cup of lobster meat. It was a nice size and fairly priced I thought. The lobster meat was very good but not the best I've ever tasted. It was a little too chewy for my liking but I still enjoyed it. Their candied salmon is a popular item but I was not in the mood for salmon at that point. It did look very tasty. If I am ever at this market again, I would stop by here and try the candied salmon. read more

Been here twice now and I've gotten their Lemon Pepper Smoked Salmon both times and the salmon from both visits were very high quality and absolutely delicious! If you love salmon you must try those fillets. I've also had their smaller salmon strips which were good but a little tougher than the lemon pepper smoked salmon. And their candied maple salmon bites are a great sweet treat! Just very.. maple-y. I've come here regularly to pick up their Maple Glazed Candied Salmon and their Sockeye Candied Salmon Strips. The Maple glazed salmon was tender and had the hint of sweet maple syrup throughout. The Smoked Sockeye Strips were firmer and had more chew to it. It had a robust smokey BBQ flavour. If you order less than 200g, they'll most likely scoop the candied salmon pieces into a plastic bag. Or else 200g and above orders will be placed in a small plastic tub which is great for travelling and will prevent the salmon pieces from getting broken apart. Whenever I'm at Granville island, I always stop here to pick up these favourites. It's a perfect marriage of salty and sweet. They don't allow samples however if you ask they'll gladly provide information on how a specific item tastes. Whenever I go to Vancouver I like to go to the Granville Island market and get some yummy salmon jerky. I had my 1st salmon jerky here and I have been craving it since. This place is super-racist. I am Asian and I was the only one standing at the counter, but the clerks were chatting in the back. There was an Asian woman kind of cleaning up the counters. She turned around and told the clerks that there was a customer. A white, female clerk turned around and saw me. Just then a white customer walked up to the counter. So the WHITE clerk went ahead and served the WHITE customer first even though the WHITE clerk knew that I was there first. The Asian woman cleaning the counters saw what happened and I guess she felt bad so she went ahead and served me, even though it wasn't really her job to do so. I guess Asian customers can only be served by the Asian clerks at this racist place. Not to mention, I got the Maple Candied Salmon - about 100 grams. Only one piece had syrup on it. The rest was just plain salmon. Needless to say, I'll never go back to this racist rip-off establishment. If you are WHITE, you will get great service. Is there really a difference in the quality of seafood? OH YES! I originally bought a pack of smoked salmon from Longliner and the day of the party, realizing I didn't have enough, I ended up buying 1 more pack at Costco. If I didn't eat the Longliner one first, I don't think I could have really tasted the difference. They were both great, but the Longliner package was 10 times better. I also tried their caviar which was mindblowing! I couldn't afford the $350 jar... yes you read correctly, - $350! I ended up buying the $20 jar and enjoyed it with a small shot of vodka. I would give it zero stars if I could. I visited Longliner Seafood Ltd around 5pm on Saturday, February 10th. I was hoping to buy some salmon jerky and had waited nearby for a customer in front of me to finish her purchase. I watched the salesclerk offer samples of different salmon jerky to the customer until she made her decision. As I approached the counter and asked the same salesclerk for a sample of the one type of salmon jerky that I had hoped to purchase, the clerk responded "We don't give out samples." I was in disbelief. The clerk told me this straight to my face while the previous customer was still standing beside me. I responding by saying "I just saw you giving this lady different samples with my own eyes!" The clerk did not respond and ignored me. I then walked away in shock and without making anymore comments as I did not wish to cause a scene. Maybe it was because it was getting close to the end of the day and the clerk was tired or maybe it was a racist thing because I'm Asian and the other customer was Caucasian. But, what I cannot abide is the how brazen the lie was. I mean I was right there! If this is how Longliner's staff treats its customers then I shudder to think how they run their operations in general. read more

You will not believe this experience. My wife and I were having a beautiful day biking the seawall. Near the end we decided to stop at Granville Island to get some Halibut for dinner. We went to Longliner and asked a lady by the name of Betty for a peice just enough for the two of us. The cut we wanted she refused to cut in half, no idea why. She then picked a huge peice and cut that for us. Slapping over a pound of Halibut on the scale (it was monstrous in size) and declaring it would be $48. My wife and I looked at each other and both thought it was ridiculous from the size to the price as we went to ask for it to be smaller Betty chucked it back in the display case said "Goodbye" and walked away. When confronting her she said she was all done with us and whispered something to her co worker. If Betty and Longliner want to charge $48 for a piece of Halibut that's fine. But a specialty shop should have specialty service and this was about the worst customer service Ive encountered. Perhaps Betty has worked there too long. Whatever her problem is I will never return and tell everyone I know to go elsewhere. There are other much better fish places on Granville Island that will suit your needs. read more

Maybe 4 giant scallops for $6.30 was a bit of a splurge for my fresh linguine pasta? But after two minutes of high heat searing, I knew I had made the right choice. Sweet and tender. Perfection! When I am in need of quality shell fish with little time to search, Longliner is always a fail safe source for me. The staff seem to be a happy bunch and are always helpful with suggestions on how to prepare your catch. Halibut is available here nine months out of the year, and they have local sardines here in the summer sometimes. I haven't the foggiest idea what to do with a whole sardine, but I am definitely game for a new menu challenge soon. read more

Very Annoyed that I was charged per 100g price for lobster, crab, two scallops and two Tiger prawns (ordered 50g) each. If I am buying 50g of product I should be charged for 50g not 100g! If Longliner has a 100g minimum charge they should state it up front . Some people don't have families and can't order large amounts of seafood. You need to cater and respect those who order small portions and not over charge them for it. The scallops were good but I will take my business elsewhere next time read more

Longliner ended up being our choice for buying our Thanksgiving ahi tuna. The staff was helpful and the fishmonger custom-cut the tuna pieces into steaks. A nice touch. The price were comparable to the other places we'd looked for fresh seafood (although now, I'd go to Meinhardt for the tuna instead...it's gorgeous there.) The other fresh fish selections looked plentiful and well-tended. As this spot is on the doorstep of the Fishermen's Wharf, it's perfectly position to get the best off the boat. read more

While I was visiting Vancouver and Granville Market, I stopped by Longliner Seafoods and purchased the "Premium Smoked Wild Sockeye Salmon". I have eaten thick cut smoked salmon before and I was looking forward to eating this product with my hot bagels today but was very disappointed. IT HAS NO SMOKED TASTE WHATSOEVER. While the quality of the fish may be good, IT TASTES LIKE CANNED SOCKEYE SALMON AND IS NOT WORTH $31.00. I called the company and complained but THEY WERE TOTALLY UNHELPFUL. (While I thought I might have gotten a bad batch, it appears that they pruposely make it this way. They claim there is a sign stating it is not heavily smoked, but I did not see any such sign and I did speak to their staff before I bought it and was not told this.). In two words, quality but expensive. When I stayed in Vancouver I stayed at a place with a kitchen so I could cook some good seafood. I steamed some great clams, mussels and sauteed some great halibut cheeks. I took some salmon home with me. They had some great smoked salmon too. Aint cheap though. read more

I have been coming here since about 1982. If I want to buy fresh seafood this is where I go and have never been disappointed. The fish is always the freshest and the variety is excellent. Anything this good comes with a price but you get what you pay for. Sometimes when I am wandering through the market I just grab a few pieces of indian candy to nibble on while i get the rest of my groceries. The place is busy and they don't suffer fools which is fine by me. Know what you want,order it, pay and move on with your shopping.
