Manilla clams... more than twice the price of Fanny Bay Oysters price on the same day!
    Ralph M.

What can one say? This place used to be great, but how things have changed under new ownership! I just purchased some Manilla clams here, something I used to routinely get for $6.95/lb ($13.95/kg). They are now almost $11.25/lb ($24.90/kg). Thinking perhaps their cost has gone up due to an increase from shellfish wholesalers, I decided to check around, and fresh clams at Fanny Bay Oysters downtown are $4.75/lb ($10.47/kg), while Seven Seas on 4th Avenue is selling them for $6.95/lb ($13.95/kg). And this is after being shorted by weight for Daily Catch frozen shrimp from SPUD on three different occasions over the past year! It's your money, but I'll drive ten minutes out of my way instead of giving this place my coin from now on!

Imagine slabs of flaky fish, roasted tiger prawns, seared scallops and crab cakes all dancing around - like sugarplums - in *my* head. Pure heaven! That's exactly how it feels while shopping at the Daily Catch. No, they don't sell it cooked (though they do carry some candied tuna and salmon http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WhXzKYIOI2f-zo4bHHfaYA?select=gqDowvgGYvY36ctOnOj3Iw), but you can allow your imagination to run wild with all the ways you could whip it up. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WhXzKYIOI2f-zo4bHHfaYA?select=miwNkbLZqCd0aK7PkaBfBg, http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WhXzKYIOI2f-zo4bHHfaYA?select=RPEFz8HEVqdnF3-KVk2AJQ) To top it off, you can feel warm and fuzzy knowing that all the seafood at the Daily Catch is 100% ocean-wise, a.k.a. sustainable. What does that mean? According to www.oceanwise.ca, it means the seafood is "caught or farmed in a way that ensures the long-term health and stability of that species, as well as the greater marine ecosystem." Bottom line? Fresh and sustainable costs more, but they're more than worth it. And it means more of these subaqueous creatures to enjoy - far into the future! P.S. If you're on a budget, check out the daily specials, e.g., http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WhXzKYIOI2f-zo4bHHfaYA?select=5A0xql5Sk3HBo3GYScAeNg

The best crab cakes anywhere! I always keep some in my freezer; they make a great lunch with a little salad.

It's a great way to help the fishermen cut out the middlemen and maximize their profit. I find the prices less expensive than grocery stores. Cash only; nearest bank machine is on Granville Island. It's located at the north end of First Avenue where it meets the south shore of False Creek, near Granville Island. There's also the fun factor: make it a part of a seawall walk & stop at Granville Island Market along the way for your other dinner fixings.

We've had several of the products from here as recently as two weeks ago when we walked down there for an adventure to pick up some shrimp and some jerked salmon jerky. Yes that's right, Jerked Salmon Jerky. YUM. We ate the entire package in one afternoon. The shrimp comes frozen in a bed of ice and needs some time to thaw. But once it is thawed, it's great quality and wonderful in any seafood dish or simply as part of a shrimp cocktail with seafood sauce. This is how we enjoyed our last batch of shrimp. Also available is salmon and assorted white fish. If you enjoy fish and/or seafood it is worth visiting the docks and getting something local.
