Great product and service! Located on 4th Street across the street from safeway. The guy helped us pick what we needed for a recipe we we're trying. Fresh mini scallops, squid, prawns, and mussels. He let us choose how much of each and was patient when we kept changing our minds. Apart from fresh, raw, seafood they also have frozen and premade dishes, sauces and other kitchenware you could need when cooking or eating seafood. Prices were a lot more reasonable than I expected.! What could be intimidating was a lovely experience! I'd go back here again for sure. read more

The fish here is beautifully fresh and nicely displayed. If you're boycotting the grocery chains, this fishmonger nicely rounds out the other independent stores next door which include a butcher, baker, and green grocer. When we ambled in here one Saturday afternoon looking for some tuna, we found it a little difficult to get service. There weren't many customers but our questions were met with short answers. Then when we asked about holiday hours, we were told they were on the door. They were: but on a small piece of paper and tricky to spot. We felt like we'd insulted the clerk by asking her about them. We ended up buying our tuna down at Granville Island. The tuna here looked fresher, though. Next time I expect we will buy out tuna and other fresh fish here, but we'll be sure to wear our armor against the icy looks from staff. read more

I didn't bother reading the reviews before I visited here yesterday. The place was nearly empty on a bustling Saturday. The lady I had was quite helpful and I purchased mussels and prawns for the most difficult dish I was ever going to make (I hope): paella. My prawns were pre-frozen and were definitely not that great, but it was my fault for going that route. At $14.95 a pound I was not impressed. De-veining them was gross, too, and I couldn't help but think about all of the times that I had been to restaurants where they just forgot to "de-vein." The mussels were actually fantastic at $5.95 a pound, but I did not consider the de-bearding, de-spotting re-scrubbing process. Yes, I'm a newb. That's what I get for pretending to know a thing or two. It was so gruelling, but it was done, and I only had one "fishy" tasting one--far fewer than what I would have found in a restaurant ***Note-do not buy these unless you have a new nail brush at home on hand for scrubbing (and I'm not even thinking about the fingernail damage afterwards, either).*** Next time, I'd also go for the tilapia, but it seemed quite pricey at $14.95 a pound, the same price as the prawns. I'm sure it would have tasted much better, in the paella however. Tilapia is the bargain fish of Florida (perhaps like sole is here) so I was not in the mood for splurging on what I deem to be a mediocre fish. Overall, I was satisfied with this place, as it seems to me that all fish places in the city are spendy, because, well, they can be. read more

I've purchased lobster here on two separate occasions and I had two different experiences. The first time when I went and inquired about a lobster, I felt as though the guy was forcing me to buy it there. I had other groceries to buy for dinner so I decided it would be best to go to my other stores first and stop by 7 seas on my way home so I wasn't carrying a squirmy lobster around Kits with me. He forced me to write my name and phone number down to "reserve" two lobsters out of a full tank of lobsters and he acted annoyed that I didn't buy them on the spot. I thought it was a little sketchy and it rubbed me wrong. However, I did go back and buy the lobster there. The lobster was live and tasted great once it was cooked, so no complaints there. On the second trip, I was greeted by a friendly woman and she was extremely helpful and kind. She even let my daughter sample some dried salmon. Again, the lobster worked well and cooked great. Seven Seas Fish Market is a good alternative to seafood stores in Granville Island (don't have to battle the traffic) and Safeway across the street (only have seafood in name.......hardly any choices). They offer an array of seafood and the staff are pretty friendly and knowledgeable. However I had a problem with one of their store policy though. I wanted to steam lobster Chinese style (so cut into pieces and in a wok). When I asked one of the clerk to butcher/clean it up for me, he told me their store policy prohibit them from doing that. Yet they can do that for a crab. Why the double standard??? I told him I don't have a big strong knife at home to do nor do I have the skills. If I have 11 fingers, I wouldn't mind because if I cut one off, I still have 10. Besides meat stores and other fish stores take care of the whole process for the customer. Well........another clerk sensed my frustation and took care of the lobster problem for me. Kudos to her for taking that extra step!! I was really thankful. I brought in a couple ling cod I had recently caught, Chris was very helpful on the phone and when i came in to get them filetted. He phoned after 30 mintues to let me know they were ready for pick up! They did a great job cutting up my fish, ($3 per lb) will definitely be back if I'm lucky enough to catch another fish! Tip: cut off the fish's heads before bringing them in, i could have saved $18 if I had done that. read more

Bought supposedly fresh spring salmon here yesterday. When we got home we found that the fish was mushy with a strong fishy odour. We had to throw it out. There are so many great seafood places in Vancouver. No reason they should still be in business. AVOID. read more

When we first moved here a year ago we were really excited to have a seafood monger so close. Like a previous reviewer wrote earlier, it was our go to place when we didn't want to go to GI. I purchased salmon there multiple times during the year, never had a problem. Yesterday I went in to do my usual salmon purchase- when I got home and opened the bag up to prepare for dinner- WOW!! The stench that came off the fillets was hardly unnoticeable!! I literally gagged. I will be returning the $17 worth of fish I bought today. I realize I purchased fish after the holiday break- obviously they are selling old fish. My husband purchased two lobsters there two months ago and when he got home he quickly saw that one lobster was dead. He immediately returned it. One strange/sketchy experience he witnessed while waiting for service- a worker was boiling all the dead lobsters. My husband brought it to their attention that that wasn't safe for humans to consume and the worker seemed clueless as to the health risks of boiling and then preparing something (???) with dead lobsters. Two gross experiences in a row equals our business lost from them. I will go to Whole Foods or GI before we'd ever return here. read more

I've never purchased product from this store before as Granville Island is closer to me but I decided to try it as I had bought an online coupon for it so I could make a special New Years Eve dinner. The product I bought was delicious but I will never go back due to the less than stellar customer service. The coupon provider's website was down so they were not going to take the coupon I bought for myself and the one I bought for my mom as a gift. My mom was with me to buy her own seafood and legitimately had her own gifted coupon. They were only going to let us use one coupon because with the computer issues the only information they had on a printout was that I had bought both and I was not allowed redeem both on the same day. The other issue was that the coupons where expiring that day so I didn't have the option to come back another day when the coupon provider's website was working properly. It was a frustrating situation for everybody. Instead of being helpful and gracious my server was curt, condescending and unhelpful. At one point another server who was not even part of the transaction butted in and in a snide voice informed me that we had had several weeks to use the coupon, implying that it was our fault for the whole situation. As a customer with a coupon an establishment has provided for my use I would expect the same courtesy and ease using the coupon the first day it was issued as the last day it was valid. That comment really tipped me over the edge. I was ready to walk out and complain to the coupon company when our original server informed me they would honour both coupons after all. While I was grateful for their decision it was conveyed in such a snarky tone any good feelings I might have felt were gone. I know coupons are given out in hopes of bringing in new customers but no amount of money discounted will compensate for poor customer service. Sadly their coupon backfired as my mom and I will never return nor will we recommend the store to anybody. read more

I bought Indian candy from here hoping it would become a convenient go-to shop. When I tried it the next day I couldn't even swallow it. It was so hard that it was like trying to chew a plastic toy. I returned it and was told for a refund I would have to have returned it the very day after buying it. I explained that I was unable to return the next day and instead returned it as soon as possible. I could understand offering something instead (tho I still wouldn't find this to be first-rate service). Instead, the person working there refused a refund, exchange and didn't even offer me a fresh batch to try - probably because it's all old. I'll never return to this place. There are way too many seafood places in Vancouver to accept stale fish and horrible service. read more

Staff was very helpful during our stay in Vancouver. We had shrimp and mussels one night, crab and clams one night, and clam chowder one night, with beef from the shop next door. We followed staff recommendations on care off the shellfish and cooking tips, and had several lovely meals. read more

I decided to try them based on reviews - it is apparent that the reviewers don't buy much fish. I found them to be clueless on the simplest fish questions. When they didn't know - they got rude. Dungeness Crab sells for $3.99 in The States this season - Canadian doller is close to par - Seven Seas price is $10.95 per pound. Making a profit is fine - I am rich - but I never gouged anyone - especially at Christmas. Very greedy business. Try Granville Island - Great Service - Better quality and price. read more

This market is one of the things I miss most about living in Kits. If you like seafood, you'll love Seven Seas! The employees are really knowledgeable about seafood, since this is what they do. As a wholesale seafood distribution and fish processing company, they have a fantastic selection of fresh (and frozen) fish and shellfish. I rarely go in here as I usually head to Granville Island when I need fish. Today I was in the hood and we wanted wild salmon. The selection was less than I was expecting and the pricing wasn't bad. They had cute salmon burgers for $2.50 each that looked pretty good. I got a nice side of salmon for $25 that should feed 5 of us so that seems decent. Sure beats the fish selection across the road at Safeway at least! read more

After many years of doing business with Seven Seas, I had an abysmal product tonight. Bought Black Cod, which just happened to be on special. I had gone to the store specifically to get that fish, did not choose it because it was 'on special'. The fish turned to something resembling Elmer's Glue upon cooking. Clearly I was sold something that had been left in water or otherwise spoiled. Extremely unhappy. Do NOT recommend ever patronizing Seven Seas. Even Safeway doesn't sell spoiled seafood...if there were negative rating options here I'd be using them. read more

When we moved into the neighbourhood, we were very excited to find a fish monger close by. While we have purchased good fish, we have stopped shopping there after several spotty experiences with fish that just wasn't fresh. I live in Kits and started going back to Seven Seas (7 Seas Vancouver) after going to T&T Market to buy my seafood (I usually try to time that trip to Gas/Chinatown for when I'm at Costco downtown as the shop is only a couple of blocks away). Although the prices were right, I didn't like the curt service, or how T&T sold and wrapped the fish. So I started going to 7 Seas in my neighborhood. I have now been back several times on Sundays and there is this total cow of a woman who works behind the counter. She threw my lovely fish pieces into a plastic bag all mangled up and was a bit short with my when I asked her how she prefers to prepare the fish. She doesn't know much how to prepare fish and has no manners whatsoever. During the week, the service seems to be better and the staff take the time to wrap the fish in brown wax paper nicely. I pay extra not only for the convenience but also good service and fish that is sold with a little TLC. Don't go there on Sundays --- the Fish Nazi may be working behind the counter. It's T&T service for sky-high west side prices, why bother? read more
