We had to get there pretty early in the morning, so we missed the breakfast buffet back at the hotel. That meant we were feeling rather peckish after our extensive security check-in. In the middle of the international terminal was this kiosk. It was surrounded by quite a display case filled with crushed ice with a variety of ready-made seafood options. Jamie was relieved to see a poke bowl fit for a transplanted Californian, the 165 NOK ($15.40 US) Poke Bowl Med Laks, which featured a huge slab of fresh salmon on top of a bed of greens mixed with avocado, cucumber, mango, shredded carrot, leeks, and edamame with a soy dressing (photo: https://bit.ly/3T0U5tF). I must've had a flashback to Copenhagen because I was drawn to the open-faced sandwich for which the Danish are renowned, the 225 NOK ($21.25 US) Premium Rekesmorbrod, which piled a boatload of shrimp on a slice of rustic country bread with lettuce, cucumber slices, and half of a hard-boiled egg (photo: https://bit.ly/3SEa1BE). Tasty stuff and just enough to sustain us over three unexpected sequential flights to LaGuardia. Don't ask but SAS is on my permanent s*** list. You have to walk up to the register to order and let them know which table you are sitting at. We got the caviar symphony which includes 4 different types of caviar, Norwegian flatbread (very thin chips) and a lemon wedge. I enjoyed the this. The fish soup was decent but I neglected it cuz I was too excited about the shellfish platter! We got the large shellfish platter which costed about 755 kr (~100 USD). The platter had a good amount of shellfish that I felt full sharing it with my husband. There were 1 langoustine (steamed), two live shrimps (steamed), a large king crab body and 4 legs (?baked since it was more dry), 2 snow crab legs, and two large scallops! All super fresh! Don't hesitate to get some seafood here if you are near by!

We did not have a reservation, but luckily they managed to fit us in at a shared table. This place is extremely popular so I would highly recommend making a reservation. To start, we ordered the cod croquettes to share. Perfectly fried and golden brown, these croquettes were absolutely delicious and the accompanying sauce paired perfectly. For our entrées, I ordered the fish and chips while my husband ordered the creamy fish soup and my father ordered the fish gratin. All three dishes were fresh and delicious, but I think the fish gratin was my favorite. So if you find yourself an Oslo looking for a delicious meal down by the water, come check out Fiskeriet.

Fish & Chips is the famous dish there. The langoustine plate came with 2 langoustines halved and some salad. , Service was fine, it was busy we were told the food could take up to 30 minutes to come out but it came sooner.

Elias Mat & Sant is located in the sentrum, Oslo's city center, so is walking distance to many sites and attractions. I visited here after walking from the palace along Karl Johans Gate as the restaurant is located off this main drag. Make reservations here for the restaurant is small and intimate. It was time to try reindeer while in the Nordic region of the world, so here I did. I ordered the reindeer stew, which was delicious. The reindeer stew was similar to a beef stew, but the reindeer is leaner, so didn't taste as heavy, which is a good thing. Over some mashed potatoes with a gravy and herbs and a side of lingonberry, it completed the meal. It also came with a side of complimentary bread, which is not always the case at other restaurants. That was a nice bonus though because the bread helped soaked up the stew. Perfection!

There was both indoor and covered outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation but came early enough to snag an inside table. It was the right choice as the rain really started to come down about that time. One caveat was that we had to wrap up our meal within 1.5 hours which wasn't a problem for us. The menu was unique as it was printed inside a newspaper. One just had to flip pages to find the drink, food and dessert menus. Given the namesake of the restaurant we opted to try three different salmon preparations: Our favorite dish was the salmon tataki which was lightly grilled in a ponzu sauce. If it was larger then we would've gladly eaten this as a main dish. The grilled salmon came in second as it was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were a great accompaniment, creamy with truffle flavors. Our least favorite was the hot smoked salmon and pasta salad. There was an unusual taste to the pasta salad that detracted from the salmon. Service was just ok and it took a long while before we could get any attention to close our check. While tipping wasn't expected in Norway, the Salmon's credit card terminals start with a tipping option screen before you can pay. We visited the museums at Bygdoy then decided to go there for dinner. Finding the shuttle boat pier was challenging. Google map led us to a residential area then pointed us to someone's back yard. We were lucky to ran i to some locals who were heading to the pier so we followed them. It turned out the entrance road leading ti the pier has a sign as private property, I would never turned into that road on my own. The shuttle only takes 11 people, we were lucky to get the last 3 seats. But I suspect it would run continuously back and forth, not the 30 minutes advertised. The info on the websites are not necessarily correct. We put our names in for a table for dinner, some of the locals are there only for drinks. Food is good, we got the Greenland shrimps, fish & chips, burger with bacon, and a shrimp toast. Since it was the opening date some of the items are not available yet. Seatings are outdoor, they offer blankets in case you get cold. On the way back, the shuttle has already had 8 people, but it came back right away for us.

You either can take a bus ($4) or what we did is take the museum ferry ($6) to stop 2-then walk about 15 minutes (but Google is messed up at the last part). Walk down a gravel road that has a barrier arm across, get on the little boat ($5) that takes you across to the tiny island (takes maybe 30 seconds), walk 5 minutes to the restaurant and put in you name (they don't take reservations and by definition you are only going there to eat outside of a beautiful day so lots of people have the same thoughts). I'd definitely go there to sit on the bar section of the patio and enjoy a glass of wine or two. We arrived pretty early -before 6 on a Sunday-so only waited like 20 minutes. The menu is really limited and as this is a seasonal restaurant-totally untrained staff. There were about 10 young servers and we probably interacted with 7 different ones-2 tried to take our order, different ones brought food, 1 didn't bring wine we ordered, another never brought the dessert we ordered after 20+ minute wait, and we eventually flagged down the only non-teenager and got our bill. Now I'm not trying to complain and everyone needs to start out somewhere but what was apparent is that there is absolutely no system whatsoever about who does what or who handles what-and it clearly wasn't a team service concept-just disorganized chaos. My wife's crab salad was decent as was my fish and chips but something we ate totally disagreed with us the next day. Can't recommend
