At first when I heard our room was only 97sq ft with a full size bed I panicked!! But this room was absolutely perfect! Plenty of room with a barn door bathroom, completely remodel,not much closet space but some, small fridge, coffee maker, hairdryer, ironing board, air conditioning, ceiling fan, tv, complementing shampoo, for beach towels ask front desk, the real surprise is the roof top hangout, there is a lower deck and upperdeck for all guest to use, they also have a bbq with sink on top deck, a large fridge if you want to go to Vons or order fresh seafood from the lobster trap restaurant to bbq, there are stairs for the second floor and rooftop, not to bad but kinda steep, I have bad knees and was able to do it, front office on bottom floor with friendly mangement!! 5 minute walk from Catalina express drop off and 1 block from beach and boardwalk. read more

Ok, here I go. After looking up places for the beau & I to stay for our trip to Catalina, I settled on Sea Crest Inn, & he obliged. Of course I checked out the reviews ahead of time, & like anything there's good & bad. Sometimes you just to need to experience a place on your own to make your own call. Check in was a breeze, & the gentleman was friendly. The location is a short walk from the ferry. (5 mins) While booking online I specifically opted for room 9, which is the captain's quarters, soley on the fact it has a jetted spa tub for 2. I thought it'd be a nice way to whine down with a bottle of wine. Side note: when we checked in we were told we were "upgraded"... which I thought odd as really there was no upgrade as the captain's quarters is the room I specifically booked online. No biggy though, as long as we got the room I booked. I don't think any of the other rooms have the same big jetted spa tub for 2. Unfortunately, the tub was not thoroughly cleaned. I wiped it down myself because there was hair everywhere, & it definitely wasn't mine seeing as we just arrived. Also, the tub does show it's wear and tear & could use some TLC... as well as other areas of the room. (But, yes, overall we enjoyed the tub) Captain's quarters is an upstairs room. Not an issue for me or the beau, but for someone who has knee issues, or a handicap it's prob not ideal. The room is located right by the stairs that leads up to the patio deck. The upper deck is lit up at night which is a nice added touch. If you book the Captain's Quarters know that the room is right by the street. Nothing like hearing golf carts all night long, but the hotel does supply ear plugs. The room is small, but it has everything you need. I wanted to hang one of my dresses & the beau and I couldn't figure out the hanger situation. Maybe there's a trick to it, if so, we missed it. I think if I were to ever come back to the island I'd give another place a try, but also be willing to stay here again. I do not understand why this place doesn't have better reviews. Here's what's wrong with the complaints I'm seeing: - "didn't have a DVD player". Seriously? Why are you watching DVDs in your hotel room on Catalina island?! Go out and explore the island or don't go on vacation. - "not fancy enough" if you're looking for fancy hotels go to Vegas. This is a quaint little island town and the seacrest fits into it perfectly. - "small rooms" yeah it's not a huge room but it's cute and it's all you should need for your stay in Catalina. Our room had a great hot tub that we thoroughly enjoyed during our stay. The seacrest also has a really awesome roof deck with possibly one of the best views in the middle of Catalina, and a great grill for people to use. The staff was very friendly and gave us a nice tour of the room when we checked in. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who isn't too stupid to work a hot tub. I found this little gem through a Groupon deal ($110/night for the Seashell, Palms, or Retreat Room), with which I reserved a room for my birthday weekend on the island. The reservation process was pretty smooth. The only problem I had was that I couldn't reach them before my reservation because the phone lines were often clogged due in large part to the popularity of their Groupon promotion and the fact that their phone hours end at 4p. It's a 50/50 chance that you'd get a response to your voicemail, but when they do pick up, they're very helpful. I read some pretty bad reviews on this place, which made me a little anxious, but I'm glad I took the dive because it was a very positively memorable experience!!! The hotel is very cozy and each of the rooms has its own private entry, making it seem more like a tiny apartment complex. I only interacted with Denise during our stay, but she was very lovely from beginning to the end. Instead of a continental breakfast, you are given a $10 voucher to be used at select restaurants in town (including the Lobster Trap, CC Gallagher, and Pancake Cottage). A randomly-selected rubber ducky greets you in the room, but you can always swap it for the rubber ducky of your choice from the office, an option which I loved!! Since we were celebrating my birthday, I was awarded a bonus birthday rubber ducky, with the color hat of my choice! Also, if you check in on your birthday, you get a percent discount of the age you are turning (e.g. if you're turning 70, you will get 70% off!). I elected the Seashell Room because I was way excited about the two-person tub/jacuzzi (which is an option in multiple rooms). When you walk in, there's a narrow hallway that leads into your room. The bed is springy and small, but we didn't come to Catalina to sleep! There's a "den" that comes with a faux fireplace and two chairs to sit in front of it with (haha cute). They also provide you with magazines that give you plenty of useful information about the island, including tours, restaurants, and nightlife. The entire room was clean and decorated to its theme, including the shower curtains, displays, and bedding! There is a closet in the bathroom that has a spare blanket, an ironing board, and two bathrobes. The room comes with a small TV and a mini fridge, which was super convenient! They also have complimentary WiFi on the premises. They also provide you with an ice bucket, bottle opener, and ear plugs - very handy! The bathtub was huge, but the jacuzzi was very loud, so we didn't keep it on for very long. They provide you two small bottles of bath bubbles, which will foam as you turn the jacuzzi jets on, so do not use them both at once because you will find yourself searching for air among the sea of bubbles! The hotel is very close to the beach, but Avalon is so small that practically everything is a 3-minute walk from the beach. They also have a BBQ and lounge area on the roof, which has a pretty nice view of the mountains and the ocean. We were able to store our luggage at the office before our check-in time, and after our check-out time, which made it every convenient to traipse around town and explore! This inn is very cozy and Denise was very knowledgeable and friendly. My only complaints were that they were often unresponsive to my phone calls before my reservation, the bed was not very comfortable, the staff is not available after 4p, and I was able to hear my neighbors laughing through the walls at night. I can understand how these inconveniences might warrant certain Yelpers to dock so many stars and write such terrible reviews, but my boyfriend and I were not expecting a 5-star room. This is a historic little hotel based perfectly in downtown Avalon literally a few blocks from the pier so no taxi service or trudging up a hill required. The rooms have everything you need, fridge, coffee maker, blowdryer and the MOST COMFORTABLE beds you've ever been in! In fact this is our SECOND stay there. The last time we were in the mermaid room (pet friendly). This time we'd been scheduled for the Mermaid but when the Manager, Michael, found out I was doing the Transcatalina Trail and I'd be ending here he upgraded me to a pet friendly room with a jacuzzi tub! I was in that thing for an hour. It was HEAVENLY. Watching the sunset from their rooftop deck MAGICAL. The staff make this place not a hotel but your home away from home. In FACT I met a family doing the trail at the same time as me. I asked where they'd stayed the first night and it was the Seacrest too! We were both saying how AWESOME the place was and how much we loved the vibe and deck. This is not a glamorous place but it is the GREATEST place you can stay which doesn't break the bank but is clean, personable, beautiful views and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Yes, I've done 5 stars. I would take Seacrest any day. Afterall, you're in Avalon- go outside! Go dive, go for a hike, go experience the island. My wife and I stayed in the Sumner Cottage for a night. The size, location, and amenities for the accommodation were excellent. There is a patio, kitchen, 2 full size beds, a futon, and a 3/4 bathroom (shower, no tub). I would easily rate this as a 4 or 5 star if it weren't for one major complication we faced. The day we arrived on Catalina island the high temperature for the day was 115° Fahrenheit and the cottage did not have an air conditioner. Despite running both ceiling fans and the provided box fan, the temperature inside was just too warm. We ended up spending the night with all doors and windows open, hoping no critters or strangers decided to join us. The temperature on the island was over 100° well into the evening, and eventually cooled down enough to get a few hours of light sleep. When we checked out I told the person on-duty about our experience and she thanked me for not calling her in the middle of the night to complain. She wasn't very sympathetic. I totally understand that the proprietors do not have any control over the weather, but it would have made a world of difference if they had an air conditioning unit in the cottage, especially considering that it cost me over $300 for the one night. In my mind, climate control is one of the most basic components to a hotel/accommodation. I'm hesitant to say whether or not I would stay here again and I'm not sure I'd recommend this place to friends or family. read more

This place is great! Denise, the lady who helped us and who I believe the owner is, is wonderful! Very nice and great conversation :) The room was cute and quaint. The rooftop is really nice on the top and offers a lot of different sections so multiple groups can be up there. He was very quick, informative and let us know that the room was ready even before the original check in time. Our bed was very clean, there was a microwave and mini fridge and the shower was a hybrid bath/jacuzzi! We had access to the sitting area on the roof and the view is beautiful. I'm very happy to say that after reading the older reviews, we were pleasantly surprised by the convenience, comfort, cleanliness and cordial staff. Firstly, the older reviews were when the hotel was under a different management than now. It is true you need to be able to climb stairs, no elevator but no biggie for us. Our room, the Captain's Quarters was fantastic. Items of interest: If u want the windows open at night, you'll probably hear the gas powered golf carts most of the evening and starting early in the am. After it kept us up the first night, we just closed the windows and put the a/c on. Again, not a big thang for us. The huge jacuzzi tub is the bomb! Just what the doctor ordered every evening. The room has a mini fridge but no microwave. We didn't need the microwave anyway. Denise in the office was accommodating and informative. The rooftop deck is amazing! When we come back, we'd like to stay in the Loft room which opens up to the deck. Perfect for our office time and happy hours. The bed was comfy with one exception. If you are used to soft down pillows, bring your own. These are foam and not my fav. Hopefully they will correct. The only other thing I would note is there are no coffee pots in the rooms. At first, that was an issue but CC Gallegers is just a few steps away and they have great organic coffee. All in all, we'll be back and definitely stay at the Seacrest Inn! read more

L O C A T I O N It's a quick 5 minutes walk to the arrival/departure. It's on a very busy street. They provide you with earplugs because it is so loud. Those little golf cart engines fly by all day! A nap was nearly impossible. The walls are very thin as well. I literally heard my neighbor fart LOL. This was not the birthday getaway that I was planning. If you are a light sleeper, this is not the place for you. Let me add that I AM NOT A LIGHT SLEEPER. S E R V I C E Michael was very nice and let us check in 2 hours early! But, I ordered/paid $437 for 2 nights in the seashell room. He let me know that since the are doing construction on the seashell room that I'll be in the captains quarters. By the way, the constitution was loud all day. So, we went from downstairs to upstairs. He helped us with our bags, but I wish he would have told us ahead of time that we were not going to be in the room that I purchased. I could have, WOULD HAVE found somewhere else to stay. Overall, I would not stay here again due to the overwhelming loudness. At 2:00 AM, people are loudly leaving the bars and you can hear like it's in your room. But Michael was very nice! read more

Such a cute little place right in the middle of all of the action! It's a block away from the beach and basically a block away from anything in the city of Avalon! The staff was incredibly nice and let us check in early/ leave our luggage with them after check out! We stayed in room 6! It was kind of small but we spent all day out and about so it wasn't a big deal! And very worth it for $95! There's a cute rooftop deck with a nice view of the ocean and the room has a mini fridge and coffee maker! read more

I visited the Seacrest Inn as a part of a large family group with people ranging in age from 8 to 80. We couldn't have found a better place for our gathering! The rooms were comfortable and clean, the location was FANTASTIC, and Michael was a terrific and accommodating host. We loved eating our meals on the two upper-level decks, with beautiful 360-degree views and plenty of room for all of us to gather. The hotel includes two cottages as well, and these were really quaint, comfortable, and well-appointed too. Staying at the Seacrest Inn and the two cottages is really like stepping back to a slower, more peaceful time. If you've ever come to Catalina for just the day or maybe one overnight, I would encourage you to return for a much longer stay, and see if you don't agree that a few days at the Seacrest Inn is a great place to calm your spirit. read more

Bring a sleep mask as it was VERY bright in our upstairs (NO ELEVATOR) room. Steep stairs because it's an old house but we seldom had to use them. PERFECT location! I chose this little B&B for our anniversary trip this october, and was pleasantly surprised! Roger was very helpful, and hooked me up with the largest unit they had, the "Loft" which is actually the owners unit when they are visiting the island. When we arrived, i had flowers and a bottle of champagne waiting for our romantic getaway. We were on the 3rd floor which was nice, with views of the bay. The room wasn't too big, but comfy... and had a 50" flat screen, comfy clean queen size bed, ac unit, kitchenette and mini bar, and our favorite was the jacuzzi tub for two with mini flat screen tv! Also the shower had double shower heads which was another perk !! Pretty nice for around $240/ night ! And very close to the main strip (quater block away) and was also walking distance from the landing dock. I would stay here again, especially for the price and location! read more

Small rooms but who the hell cares, all we did was spend our time outside doing all the tours we possibly could!!! My only issue is the stairs, they're too narrow. Kind staff, very clean and comfy, especially the bed...YAAASS!!! We also have a mini fridge and a microwave! I do recommend that you keep your windows closed in the early morning if you're trying to sleep in. I'm a deep sleeper so I couldn't hear it, but my boyfriend hears everything and all you could hear is the little golf carts driving by. There's one room that has a jacuzzi tub and we tried to get it but we missed out. This Inn is also the tallest on the block, so the views were awesome on the roof. read more

Michael was great! The location is perfect, literally one minute to the water, downtown and our fav food spot the Lobster Trap. Rooms were well planned out, had many amenities, quality wifi and television as well as quality soaps, lotions and conditioners etc. They allowed us to store our items during the day in their office and best of all there's a bbq on the rooftop deck which includes an awesome view. There was also a large bathtub weigh was nice especially with the bubble bath soap provided. Def will stay here again. Great price esp for such a great location. read more

This was the only hotel available, & now we know why. Neither of us are 'primadonnas' by any means, so it was fine by us when we saw that Seacrest Inn is older and doesn't appear as nice as some of the other hotels in the area. The tiny size and mugginess of our 'romantic Wicker Roses' room didn't bother us. We even toughed it out when we felt how grimy the carpet and comforter was, thinking we'd just spend more time on the beach & explore the island. When we settled into bed for the night & my boyfriend got BIT by several BED BUGS, however, we decided enough was enough. It was too late to leave the island, & there were no vacancies at other hotels. We found MANY bed bugs creeping all over the comforter, so we shoved it into the closet & stripped the bed down to plain white sheets. We spent a restless night in our room, killing any creepers on our sheets. By the next morning, there were over 25 dead bugs on our sheets. We filmed many of the bugs crawling around but decided to spare you all with how disgusting our night was by not uploading photos/videos. We had to leave the island first thing in the morning to throw out many of the items we had in the room and disinfect the rest. Thankfully, the hotel gave us a full refund (for which we are VERY grateful), but we ended up losing a lot of money on damaged items/cancelled excursions, plus our trip was ruined. One of the employees told us no one has ever complained of bugs & that an exterminator comes every 2 weeks. I find both hard to believe, especially with how dirty our room was. From what I've heard, bed bugs are very difficult to get rid of, so before you decide to be adventurous and stay here, I strongly recommend asking the hotel if they've fixed the problem. read more

Only stay here if you want to experience how the early settlers on Avalon lived. We stayed in room #6 which boasted dirty carpet & sheets and towels with holes in them. Upon our arrival, Roger showed us to our rooms. After dinner that same evening, we returned to our room to find the door hardware & deadbolt missing. We were informed Roger was just fired and they had to re-key every room. Never mind the door to our room was left open and all our belongings put at risk! We asked the front desk staff to promptly replace the deadbolt to which they asked why that was necessary. We reminded them that the two inch hole made our bed clearly visible for any peeping Tom that walked by. Reluctantly they replaced the dead bolt with the one they had just removed. One look at the continental breakfast and you'll be looking for the nearest cafe. The ONLY redeeming quality is the roof top deck with a BBQ and refrigerator. We enjoyed sitting on the deck to watch the air-show. This is the only reason I am leaving a 1 star rating... this Inn needs A LOT of work before I would ever consider staying here again. read more

Super friendly staff, let us check in by 1:00 pm, clean, spacious loft room, little soaps & toiletries fully stocked, great decks, close to the action, brand new towels, huge jacuzzi, returned my call, and oh wah, big deal, no starchy, sad little continental breakfast. Put on your big boy/girl pants and walk a block to the nearby bakery. 5 stars, would return, would recommend this to anyone!!! No Yelp, my sweet deets are sufficient and don't need to add any more corny-ass details. Not everyone is 20-something with nothing better to do than ramble on to hear themselves babble. read more

Would not come back to this hotel for a second stay. 1. The room was small, cramped, and generally uncomfortable: in between the queen-sized bed and the walls was a space of approximately two feet or less. The immediate hallway in the room was so cramped that you couldn't open the room's closet without the front door being completely closed. The room's closet was so small and largely occupied by a fridge and shoe shelves that the only way to store our stuff was hang what we could, and keep the luggage in the two-feet space between our bed and the wall, making things even more cramped. 2. The AC-unit didn't work: it was basically just another fan. Yes, we tried all the settings 3. Woke up in the morning with rather significant bug bites on my arms and legs. WTF. I didn't have any the night prior. 4. The toilet clogged and flooded on us after we peed in it, and when we called for the manager to solve the issue, he asked us why we didn't just mop it up (we couldn't because we only had only been provided two towels in the room). Then after he mopped it up with towels he got from their supply closet, he tried to leave and we had to ask him to sanitize the bathroom. He used windex to do so. 5. The continental breakfast that the hotel serves is quite unsatisfying. The fruit was fairly bruised, the orange juice tasted terrible (when I went to toss mine away, the rubbish bin was filled with other cups that had unfinished OJ in them), and the pastries looked stale. 6. For the amount we paid, we could have gone to Vegas and easily gotten a spacious and comfortable room at a hotel on the strip. If we had added a bit more to what we paid for that room, we could have gotten a room in a better hotel directly by the "beach" in Catalina. That's what we should have done. It would have been worth it. The one upside was that their rooftop balcony had a sweet view. read more

We booked seacrest inn on last minute decision when our AirB&B fell through. We have to say we def don't have any regrets. From the initial booking to the check out seacrest was awesome! Sharon greeted us and gave us some insight on Avalon. She was awesome, very laid back and cool! We were visiting Catalina on our honeymoon and so we when she told us we got the loft room which was on the very top with a great view we were shocked we got so lucky! The loft was perfect, it had full kitchen and full bath with jetted tub and the shower was cool too with two heads! The style of the room was very cool and vintage. The bed was def comfortable, every time I laid on it while my husband got ready it was super easy for me to fall asleep. They give you lots of pillows too! Everything is all walking distance which is very convenient, We definitely got lucky with this gem and can't wait to return with our kids for a family trip! Thank you Seascrest Inn!! Ps. My wife and I were married on Catalina Island. We chose this place to stay in as it seemed like a nice quaint place by the website's photos. I do not mind the small room we stayed in. After all it was just us two. But the room was not finished. It was just a bit too ghetto for me. I noticed when we checked into the place that there were movies that you can borrow in the office. So one of the nights I went to borrow a video (keep in mind these were old VHS tapes) and the man insisted that I sign it out. As if I wanted to keep that old tape of "Cheech and Chong Up In Smoke". I began to sign a list but then another employee, who I think was his wife, said there was no need. I was kind of puzzled by the entire ordeal especially since they knew who I was as I was a guest at their Inn. That is just a goofy thing that happened while I was there and I wanted to share it with others for a laugh. But all joking aside this place is kind of gross. We TRIED booking a room here but they do not answer the phone!!!! It's the most frustrating thing in the world. Terrible customer service!! Did the receptionist die or something? I left 3 messages and called about 25 times over the past 2 days and have heard NOTHING back. I really hope the manager of this hotel reads this because I really really wanted to stay here for a nice weekend getaway but the terrible customer service team ruined that for me. We just got home from a 3 day trip to Catalina. I took my fiancé for his birthday. The last time we both were there was nearly 8 years ago, so I had no idea where to stay or the street names closer to the boardwalk. I used Travelocity and booked two nights. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It's one block from the boardwalk and has a two story roof deck with an amazing bbq which we used one night. Complete ocean view. Just beautiful, we spent our mornings and most evenings up there. The room was pretty small but it did have a tv and a mini fridge and full bathroom. The staff wasn't there all the time which wasn't an issue because they left multiple phone numbers for immediate assistance. Everyone was very friendly, but they didn't bug you. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. That deck sells this place, it didn't look like any place else had a deck like that near by! We will be going back and staying there. Maybe upgrading to a bigger room. read more

Was very skeptical after many bad reviews. Took a shot and was happy to report the room was very clean and we were happy with our stay. The location is close to the shops and water and the price was right. We received a $10 coupon for a wonderful breakfast at the Pancake cottage (believe the hype and only order 1 plate, the servings are huge). We will definitely return. Only reason I didn't give a 5 star was because it is impossible to get ahold of someone over the phone prior to our stay (they do not answer and do not return messages). read more

A great location close to everything in town. Very friendly staff and clean and quiet rooms. We had a great experience.

My husband and myself stayed one night. I read the other reviews; if there was mold present- did not see or smell it. I thought having ear plugs in the room was a great idea. Bed was a little to firm, but overall we would stay here again. read more

I am giving 5 Stars to an inn that is not a 5-star hotel. The reason for this is that you're treated like a five-star customer by Michael. Everything is totally remodeled here and even though this is an old building, everything is kept up nicely. There is a coffee maker in the rooms and not much else in the way of amenities except for the great rooftop seats and tables with a barbecue I think. There are not that many rooms so it is a quick in and out of this place and so close to the beach...one block away from the boardwalk. I stayed up in the Loft room which I think is their biggest room but only has one bed. I am pretty sure they have one other room that has two beds. read more

I was very pleased with our stay at the Catalina Island Seacrest Inn. The manager was very friendly and helpful, getting us checked in and holding our bags until the room was ready (we showed up early). Location is prime, just a few blocks from the main shopping/dining/beach area. The rooms were clean, and well stocked. The air conditioning worked wonderfully.. The TV was small and you couldn't see it well if laying down in bed, but I wasn't too concerned (we weren't there to watch TV). Free WiFI was great and fast. The rooftop patio was neat with chairs and tables to relax and enjoy the view from. Overall, I'm very happy with our experience and would definitely recommend it to others! read more
