I had seen the negative reviews of this place, but was willing to give it a shot because it seemed like a cool vibe and we wanted to treat a Draper resident to a drink out. I know they just opened so I'm usually willing to cut some slack, but - oof. Since I know the owner has responded to a few reviews, here are my opinions, for what they're worth, on what could improve. Like others said - for a hip cocktail bar like this, the bartenders need to know their stuff. They need to be able to go off menu and have the ingredients to do so. One of our party didn't like the options on the menu and wanted a white Russian - but there was no cream. Okay, how about a black Russian? No coffee liqueur (surprising, for being above/owned by La Barba). So we asked if they had amaretto, to maybe make a different dessert drink - none of that either. The bartender seemed unable to wing any kind of drink other than what was on the menu. A cocktail bar should be stocked with more than just what makes the basic cocktails on the menu. I can make an old-fashioned at home with better bourbon; I'm going to a bar for the variety, experimentation, and unique drinks. Bartenders could also use more training in general - watching the guy make our drinks was a mess. He seemed confused about what order to do things in, made the wrong drink the first time around, and put dirty ice (the ice from the shaker) in the drinks, which is a bartending no-no, at least in a nice joint. Finally, the drinks felt overpriced for what they were. The well bourbon they used is Benchmark, which is REALLY CHEAP. Don't be charging Bulleit or Makers prices for Benchmark drinks. To top it all off, we couldn't try any of the food because the bartender told us the kitchen staff wasn't there that day and so he could try, but also not really because he was the only person there...basically telling us not to order food. I'm hoping these kinks get worked out because it seemed like it has potential, and I'd be interested to try the Seabird at the Gateway when it opens. Hopefully they up their game on the availability of a variety of drinks and alcohols, and train up their bartenders better. read more

Came here with a few friends, and was impressed by how clean and cute the place was. It was a chill vibe, and had good outdoor spots to sit. I love the location, as there aren't a lot of bars in Draper area. Was NOT impressed by the bartender. He was rude and said things like, "I don't like making that drink, pick another one" and was very short with us. We were overly nice and patient to try not to be a nuisance, but it didn't help his attitude. If they could get new bartenders, this place would be much better. read more

Seabird is a very cool concept. But this place was short in many ways. First they seem to pride themselves in being a cocktail bar. But the employees may need training. That really doesn't work for me. There should be workers competent enough to make the drinks from day one. I've been in the business for 10 years. I have expectation if I'm handing over my money. So when something taste off it's just off. The selections, where not exactly to my liking. I don't mind paying for top shelf in my cocktails. I love this spot, Steveo is awesome and who doesn't love Mike?! Great bartenders who are friendly and remember you. The cocktails are fantastic and the wine choices are always 100% The atmosphere is super cool, music is lowkey but loud enough to hear and always amazing and the people are fun locals that are there to chill and wind down for the day. Definitely worth checking out. Weekends are usually pretty busy, during the week not so much. All the drinks are awesome and the beer choices are cool too! read more

We love going to seabird. It's a nice change of pace from a lot of the big crowded Salt Lake bars. The bartenders are always great & super personable. Cocktails are unique & delicious. I was really excited to see a bar open in my backyard. We live in Draper and noticed a new bar, Seabird, open up just down the hill from us. We passed by it a couple times telling ourselves we need to stop and check it out. Well, we finally stopped by tonight. First impressions were nice. A different type of bar but it looked inviting. It wasn't busy at all with just 3 tables occupied. There were 3 employees at the bar. We were told to take any seat and then one of the employees brought us a menu. We looked over the menu and it had standard drinks and a very good selection of beers. We chatted for a couple minutes and then made our decision on drinks. We waited. And waited. And waited. After about 5 min, I turned on the stopwatch on my phone. We waited another 10 min. Nothing. The employee never came back. Another couple came in while we were waiting. They took a seat and another employee handed them a menu. A few minutes later, the employee went back to them and took their order. Meanwhile, more than 10 min later, we still hadn't been asked for our drink order. After watching the new couple get service, we decided it was best to leave. I guess they didn't want our business. So, really disappointed. Our excitement has dwindled and we'll pass on visiting Seabird for now. Hopefully things get better for them. read more

Me and a couple girlfriends were looking to grab a quick drink after a business meeting. We stopped here in hopes they had some finger foods and tasty drinks. The drink menu was just ok, the snacks menu was pretty underwhelming. The decor of this location is super cute but the ambiance btwn the resting b face on the bartender and the deafening sound of no business really made this experience a bust. Went in on Saturday for drinks and apps. Ambiance is great. location is unique. Food was really good and drink menu was quite extensive. The bartender was very knowledgeable and seemed like a true mixologist. My only complaint is that the bartender was needing to run around like crazy. I counted 18 people in there at one time. 7 separate seatings. This was too much for the poor guy to handle. No hostess. Nobody to bus tables. He could barely keep up with drink orders and filling water glasses. Get the guy some help. read more

Great bar! Perfect location in Draper. Friendly service and the atmosphere was chill. Prices are very reasonable. Hubby and I are scotch drinkers and they had a good selection of our favs. Tried their whiskey sour, it was amazing. These guys are professionals and it was fun watching them make drinks. This place is FANTASTIC! My husband and I live super close and wanted to try out our new neighborhood bar and we are SO GLAD we did. I wanted to sample the menu so I had three different cocktails and my husband had two different cocktails (he had to drive, #thanksutah). Every single cocktail we tried was fabulous! We had the whiskey sour, bees knees, French 75, old fashioned and oaxacan old fashioned. Worth every penny and we will for sure be back. Definitely over priced and the service was... well, non existent. If you are at a table and you want a drink you must go to the bar and ask. The place was empty, so being busy could not be an excuse. Now here comes the kicker... my boyfriend went to the bar to order more drinks, (because there was no waitress). We ordered 2 drinks, 2 beers, and hummus. Our bill came and it was $75 (wtf) we look at the bill and his pint of beer was $30! A pint of beer for 30$ are you effing kidding me? Lol. What a joke. We could have spent the money somewhere worth it and actually enjoyed. The hummus came in a shot glass with some dry thin, pita bread (looked more like a tortilla from Walmart). Eh, it was just okay. It's in a really cool space and felt like it had potential. However, it's way over priced for what you end up with. The food was pretty simple and bland, and they don't know how to make a Kentucky Mule so I basically got to walk them through it... I feel like if your going to open a bar, the bartenders should know the basics, and you should have a better selection of liquor as well. I asked for Makers Mark in my drink, and that's definitely not what I ended up with. Some of us know what we like and don't stick to the cocktail menu. Also, if you don't have what someone asks for, it's not necessarily the coolest thing to give them something else, likely cheaper, and not say anything and end up charging them top shelf prices. Website says they close at midnight. Yelp says they close at midnight. Last call given before 11:00 PM. Watched guests being turned away at exactly 11:00. As a business owner, nothing worse than someone closing the place early and turning people away. Lost guest today = lost revenue tomorrow. This place could be great if they figure it out. Draper needs a chill place to go. Need to know you can actually do so and not be turned away. This is written hoping they are successful. Beer was good, food was good, employees were nice. People complaining that they didn't get the drinks they wanted the way they like them when the drinks they ordered weren't on the menu and the spirits that go in them weren't on the shelf. Just moved back to Utah after a decade on the east coast. Seabird is a fantastic addition to Draper. It is very nice to have such a great cocktail bar in the neighborhood. They have a great vibe with an elevated open room and an outdoor deck with a view. I love that they spin vinyl records from all genres. The staff is friendly. Great Whiskey Sour! It's short staffed so it takes a bit to get food or cocktails. Loud!!! They have nothing to dampen the noise in there. The layout doesn't promote inter-social interactions and the seating isn't comfortable. So what they lack in ambiance they can't make up for in good cocktails.
