I'm a little in love with the Biddeford Pool area, but I always forget that the drive out to it is rather remote once you leave town and hook onto Route 9. Just when I think I'm going to die from dehydration or an explosive bladder, the Sea Star Market rises up like an oasis. Gas? Check. Pizza, Wings, French Toast Sticks, Salads, Sandwiches? Check. A decent selection of wine? Check. A hometown feeling? Check. Bathroom open to the public? Check. Folks smiling and wishing you well on your way out? Check. The Sea Star Market - which I imagine is a staple and absolute lifesaver to the UNE community - looks much smaller than it actually is: it houses an extraordinary number of small market essentials. To be honest, though, we usually stop just for gas and the bathroom - both of which often have lines. Folks used to the Sea Star Market though know to wait patiently for both. Unfortunately, the bathroom is a little on the dingier side - so, ladies, be prepared to work those quad muscles (FYI: the bathroom sink is nearly ON TOP of the toilet [it's seriously weird lay out], so I hope you also know how to do yoga). Sea star. Otherwise known as the home of the worlds best breakfast burrito. Here is what I ordered, because I think everyone in the world needs to try it: custom breakfast wrap. Sausage. Sour cream. Hot sauce. Onions. Mushrooms. To die for. Aside from that, the service is great. On Saturday, we went in to order sandwiches. There was just one lady working. As many know, Maine is facing a staffing crisis, and it appeared she was short staffed. But despite this, she made our sandwiches without complaint, then hustled over to the register to ring us up as well as the many other customers in the market. She did this all with a smile and a friendly attitude, while also managing to make the best breakfast sandwich I've ever tasted. It was so good, I came in today today and got the same thing. Made by a different cook today, but just as delicious. Sea star is a fabulous one stop shop in an area with not much going on. You can pull in and get gas, lunch, shampoo, organic dog bones, and even homemade pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. They even have my favorite blueberry coffee as well as the best offering of scratch tickets, my favorite Sauvignon blanc wine - oyster bay (not a typical gas station score!), and healthy snack options like nuts, pretzels, and trail mix. I was compelled to write this review because I think this community is very lucky to have sea star at their fingertips. I was saddened to see bad reviews, and encourage those grumpy patrons to give this place a second chance. I'm coming from nyc, and give this place a 10/10. So sad to give, what was one of my favorite spots to stop for a quick salad, sandwich, wine etc a one star. They recently sold and have gone WAY WAY WAY downhill. So much so, that I will never go again :( I stopped the other night to get 2 egg salad sandwiches and a chicken cesar salad. The bread was so stale it was barely edible & the egg salad flat & flavorless. The chicken in the salad was disgusting. Old, overcooked & flavorless. It's now dirty, smelly and the owner is quite rude & not attentive to his customers in the least. I miss the old Sea Star and wish someone else would buy it from the current owners so we can all enjoy a better experience. read more

This used to be a decent sandwich shop. Everything about it now is awful. Bad food, bad service, no concept of how to run a business. I ordered the Mexican breakfast sandwich, and they gave me a whole sausage wrapped in a fried egg. I won't go back here even just to buy a soda or fill my gas tank. read more

My guess is that this place changed ownership, and the new owners are inept. If not, something significant changed. We've been coming to Biddeford Pool every summer for years, and always enjoyed ordering pizza from here. Consistently good. Until this year, when it was awful. First, they go to great lengths to advertise that they deliver 2-8 every day. But they don't - at least not last week. We called several days and were told by unfriendly staff they weren't delivering that day. They responded in disbelief when we told them their web marketing said they did. When they finally did deliver, on the third day calling (we kept tying because it used to be so good!) the pizza took over an hour to arrive, was cold when it came, the driver called six times because he couldn't find our house (even though the address pops up in every google maps style app), and then he announced he wouldn't take a credit card until we insisted on the basis that the store told us it would take cards when we called. Extra cheese pizza had no cheese. Other pizza was missing half the toppings we paid for. Even the sauce tasted different. I don't fault this store for gouging a bit - it's a short summer season and they have to make a buck. But I do fault them for overcharging and then providing this shameful pizza delivery service. Won't be ordering from them again - a many years' tradition comes to an end. One loyal family of customers lost to this place. Doubt they care. read more

Horrible service, very rude employees. I stood at the register for several minutes waiting to be rung up. The employee saw me and ignored me in order to finish her conversation with another employee. My order, which I should have checked, was completely wrong. A few pieces of chopped chicken drenched in ranch instead of the walnut chicken I ordered. I've been working at UNE for a little bit now and Sea Star is always a good lunch option if you forgot your sammie in the fridge at home or need an afternoon pick me up. Had lunch there today for the first time in a long time and all I can say is bad, very bad. The sandwiches were all bread and had no flavor to them. Had a hair in mine as well which took a star or two away for sure but even if I took that out of the equation it was still a 2 at best probably. My 16 year old daughter worked there for 2 weeks. She quit when the toilet overflowed all over kitchen and she was told to do dishes outside in a bucket with a garden hose, next to the water running out of back of store!! . I then had to chase the owner down to pay her and then her check was short 22 hours. I am beyond mad at this situation personally and socially. This is the only store for miles and is located next to a college. It is our duty to make sure these young adults are eating in a clean environment, for obvious reasons. My child showed up to work and provided labor for this store! It is unreasonable for me to have to chase down this money on her behalf. Maine Department of Labor has been alerted. peace read more

I have been working in Biddeford pool the last couple weeks and this is the only store close enough to get lunch. It was 12:15pm on a Wednesday. Not a thing in either of their food warmers and I'm the only costumer in the store. So I ordered an italian. Roast beef, loaded, no tomatoes, with oil, salt and pepper. A few more people walk in. 15 minutes later I get my Italian. But only after asking if it's done yet and seeing that several other sandwich's have been made and given to the next customers. The sandwich maker cut through my bread completely, loaded it with mayo, and loaded it with tomatoes. It was super messy since my bread was cut all the way through. The sandwich just fell apart while attempting to eat it. I Stood at the register for ever waiting to be cashed out. Literally 10 minutes. And then they won't give me a reciept. All employees seem miserable and bothered by doing their job. Long story short; STAY AWAY! They're a rip off and have the worst service around. And the lowest quality food. Only way I'd eat there again is if I called ahead and ordered something deep fried. Even the pizza is lousy. Undercooked and lacking flavor, cheese, and toppings. Ordered the fried clam strips and didn't even know what I was eating, the clams were fried into a doughy ball, made up of 99% practically raw batter, 1% clam. The muffins and pastries they had out looked good. But definitely a gas station, would not recommend the food, definitely not the seafood. I hate to write this review. We grew up 2 minutes from Sea Star Market and it was a godsend considering the nearest grocery store and food was 15 minutes away. It was never anything particularly special but the food was tasty and the market was always reliable. I walked in this week and immediately knew something had changed (new ownership I guess). Shelves unstocked, none of the same employees, hot as hell, slow service, etc. We ordered food here two different times for the family hoping the first time was a fluke but both times it was just plain awful. Orders messed up, skimpy, burnt, dry, you name it. The styrofoam was so cheap our chicken tender burnt holes through it. They also sell tacky political T-shirt's like "Ted Kennedy's car killed more people than my gun". I really feel like Biddeford pool/Hills Beach lost a staple. I can't imagine this place sticking around for long cause no one ever came for the gas anyway. read more

We visited my mother in law over the weekend in Maine. She had stopped for gas from the gas station where the Sea Star Market resides. It is housed right next to University of New England. The place looks very unassuming and when i ordered before i seen the place, it was not what i was expecting. I ordered a steak and cheese sub with banana peppers and onions. The bread it was on was delicious, the shaved steak was amazing, and the provolone cheese was really good. Our order also included large fries and onion rings, which were both really good. The seasoned fries were just the way i like them. Nice and crispy with enough seasoning to eat without ketchup. My wife ordered the crown burger that had pastrami and bacon on the burger. Her and my daughter split that and both loved it. We went back there for breakfast for the next two mornings. I ordered the egg white and cheese with steak and bacon on the baguette, my wife had similar sandwich on a croissant and my daughter had a sandwich like mine. We also ordered hash-browns and french-toast sticks which were also not to bad. Overall the food was delicious and was a pleasant surprise while we visited the kids grandmother. read more
