*Note: General Store owners responded to my post, and rather than attempt to rectify any issues or assume any responsibility for the problems raised by the review (and reviews by others), they wrote a reply saying the customer must have been having a bad day. This kind of response only proves to further my points. The Goose Rocks Beach General Store has transformed from a family friendly, reasonably priced convenience store into a bougie, fly infested, overpriced French cafe. I could see a place like this working in a port town, but the entire point of a beach-side store is missed with this new setup. Gone are the days of reasonably priced sandwiches, giant muffins, and penny candy. Instead, the store is serving overpriced coffee, crepes, etc. Enjoy watching flies swarming exposed baked goods while the cash register rings you for two iced coffees and two muffins at the fabulously high price of $20+. Credit only, so good luck sending your kids. Attached is a photo of the bizarre, nonsensical layout. You enter the store *at* the cash register, and to get in line you have to excuse your way through the crowded checkout line to go to the back of the store, to wrap back to the front of the store. Then after you pick up your order you have to excuse your way back through the checkout line to exit, AHHHHH! They're forcing two laps just to get a coffee. Nice college kids working there but that's about the only redeeming quality at this time. read more

Another reviewer said it perfectly.. you can mess with a good thing. The beach vibe of the old general store is gone and in its place is a French cafe/store. Not bad, but definitely not great. I understand the desire to improve a business... but there is something to be said for keeping things that work. We use to grab breakfast sandwiches/ coffee (or burgers at lunch) and go sit on the beach. Today, you have crepes, Starbucks like coffee and fancy sandwiches. I can see the appeal this cafe. Me- Spends $120 between two days here- upstairs and downstairs combined. Me- say 2, comes back to grab a snack before heading back to Goose Rocks Beach. Me on day 2, going to pay for merchandise with cash... Store- We don't take cash. Me- uses Apple Pay Me- may I use your ladies room? Store- we have a port-a-John outside behind the store Me- seriously? Store- seriously. Me- goes to said port-a-john. It's covered in piss and disgusting. Me- wretches through the entire process wondering how in this upscale neighborhood and price point I can be squatting in a piss covered port-a-John. Me- never again. Do better people. read more

I rate this a generous 2.6. Upset to say the least. As a local Mainer, I didn't think it was possible to mess up the best place on Goose Rocks Beach. The beach aesthetic is not there, idk about anyone else but a pastry on a hot beach day does not go together. Food is pre made so get there early if u want it fresh and flys not touching the food. Besides that, staff is super nice and it's very fast to get your food. Store also has other appliances. Good. #BringBackOldManagement read more

I am absolutely flabbergasted by the owners responses to some of these comments. The negative comments bring up valid issues with this new morning in Paris food situation and instead of taking responsibility and using the critics to make the restaurant better they are just blaming the reviewers. For the cafe itself, idk whose idea it was to sell crepes on the beach in the only little store that is beach side but it's just a bad idea all around. The crepes take way too long to make for the amount of customers they are getting. I also just went this past Sunday and they were insanely unprepared. It is a Sunday in summer, they should be expecting to be busy and yet they were out of everything... they didn't even have ketchup. We tried to order a pizza and as they said "oh idk if we can make anymore I think we are out of shells" and this was at 11 am. How they don't have pizzas ready to be popped in the oven for a busy day is beyond me. I wasn't going to waste my time writing a review since I figured a business like this would just end up closing and new owners would hopefully come in soon but after seeing the current owners responses to some of these valid concerns written in the reviews I couldn't keep my mouth shut. read more

Visited Maine yesterday. The Goose Rocks Beach General Store was closed. There was a hand written sign on the door that stated, "Thanks. It's been a great 4 years." Not sure if it will open next season or not. My one star rating was just to get this posted. Not sure how they conducted business these days. read more

Since changing hands to the new Mornings in Paris owner, the general store has become disorganized, poorly laid out, and the food ( croissants, pizzas and sandwiches) are sub par. It takes 20 minutes to check out and no one knows where to form a line. Bring back the house made muffins, Penney candy for the kids, better add faster coffee service ! read more

I think the new owners have totally turned this place around. The turkey sandwiches are perfect for the beach, and the coffee and pastries are incredible. They have a solid selection of beverages as well. My only complaint is that the porta potty is nightmare, but I'm not knocking them for that because it's Labor Day weekend and I don't even know if they manage it! read more

We had 4 different kinds of sandwiches and 2 hot dogs to try. They were delicious. Candy, coffee, tea, chips, and drinks galore. Upstairs is a beautiful shop with local artistan gifts. Also, Shirts, coffee mugs, unique bags and beach towels. They have toys too. Support area local! Warm, kind, smiling staff to help and serve. Thank you for lunch and a treasure from Maine! read more

Not a big fan of the new layout. Everything downstairs looks premade and disorganized. The gift shop upstairs is a good improvement though.

New ownership ruined this little slice of heaven. The talk of the beach is how disappointed everyone is. Bring back our muffins, egg sandwiches, pizza, and deli made to order sandwiches. The only good addition is the coffee. Summer locals want our general store back. Now, we all drive to Bradbury's or Cape Porpoise Kitchen for breakfast and lunch. All of the drinks and pastries are amazing and so much better than before. I and other RESIDENTS of Goose Rocks have agreed that the food and drinks are amazing and it seems like all the bad reviews are from people who only come for small amounts of time every summer (Valérie) and, to be honest, should not get to dictate the quality of this place. We have been going to KPT for 14 years and one of our pleasure was to go to the General store at lunch time and order a fresh sandwich from an extensive list. Now with new owners, there are only three - awful - sandwiches types (one or two slices of meat), chewy hot dogs and overcooked pizza. If you arrive around 2pm, there is not much left. Plus they don't take cash anymore so you can't send your kids to get some drinks and snacks in the afternoon! Who wants to buy a gift-card seriously?! So we just went this one time and decided to go instead to Bradbury Brothers Market and Cape Porpoise Kitchen in Cape Porpoise! read more

Best breakfast sandwiches ever! The muffins are baked fresh daily and if you're lucky, they may give you a warm one straight out of the oven. We come here often throughout the summer and often get the lobster roll. We love the beach and the Zackwiches...But today I was served the most disgusting lobster roll. It was a bottle of mayo in the roll with clumps of lobster. You could hardly see the lobster there was so much mayo! TERRIBLE! This isn't a $6 sandwich... if I hadn't walked all the way back to the beach with it I would've returned it immediately. There needs to be some quality control in the food dept. read more

Cute local convenient store w all kinds of goodies. Full deli so you can order a sandwich, wrap, sub any way you like & head on down to the beach. Too, they offer a wide variety of chips, snacks, sodas, water, coffee, ice cream etc. And if you happen to need bread, milk, gum, band aids, sun tanning lotion, candy, or....whatever- they just may have that too! Friendly service. Prices are a bit high as you are paying for the great convienience. Private but small parking lot. read more

We ended up staying at the beach longer than we anticipated so my husband walked 1/2 mile to get us a late lunch- it was so worth it! I had the lobster roll, he got himself and the kids a cheese pizza. The lobster was soooo good, I just it was bigger but definitely one of the best I've had. The pizza was cheesy and very good. Stopped in for a snack, both had the lobster rolls and bag of chips to share. The lobster is weighed ahead of time, so they just add mano or not before placing in typical roll with lettuce. Pretty good. Nice place to stop for a small bite, have tables outside. Close to beach area. read more

This is a wonderful store the staff are the most wonderful people they engage in conversation while waiting on your lunch to be made, the food has the best fresh taste! They also have it set up so that if you anything while at the beach you can get it their, the gift shop has great gifts an it's nice to have a keep sake from the beach!!! read more

The staff are very nice, the contents are adequate for basic summer beach food and kid-friendly requirements, but the hours are very inadequate, Upstairs is your typical gift shop souvenier trinket shop. You'd think they'd have blue denim shorts that say Goose Rocks Beach on them, but they don't. It's nothing like the old GRB store (Verrier's) but it will do. read more
