There's a great little market in Kennebunkport. They have a great assortment of basic food need…read moreitems for folks who are staying longer. We went a few times throughout our visit. They have an entire section of authentic Maine items from ice cream to desserts and maple syrup. They have an entire fridge if you are pulling together a quick charcuterie board. We were looking for items to make s'mores, and the staff was so kind. They ran out of marshmallows, and one of the staff members went into the back to look, and the man at the registered offered to call a few stores around Kennebunkport to check for us. Truly kind people. We ended up getting our marshmallows there!

I honestly thought I'd found a hidden gem. Kennebunkport in July is absolute chaos, and somehow…read morethis place was completely empty. I figured I'd hit the jackpot--an egg sandwich, no line, protein, perfect. I ordered an egg sandwich, was told it would take 10-15 minutes, and was asked to come back. No problem. I returned about 10 minutes later and quietly waited while my sandwich was being finished. I was the only customer in the entire place. The employee looked at me and said, "You need to wait outside." Outside? For what? The place was empty. When I asked why, he said it was because it was a small space. At that exact moment, two fellow tourists walked in, heard him tell me to leave, exchanged the universal "nope" look, and immediately turned around and walked back out. I can't say I blamed them. By that point I was so uncomfortable that I asked to cancel my order. He refused. So there I was--banished to the sidewalk in extreme heat, unable to cancel, waiting for my egg sandwich. I'll admit, my imagination started running wild about why I apparently wasn't allowed to witness its preparation. I'm sure there are innocent explanations, but being told to leave an empty restaurant while your food is being made isn't exactly confidence-inspiring. The sandwich itself was...fine. Perfectly ordinary. The proportions were not generous in terms of egg to bread ratio. Definitely not memorable enough to justify the price, and unfortunately I'd already left a tip before the hospitality portion of the experience began. If your business model is "Please leave while we make your food, but also you can't cancel it," you may want to rethink customer service. Kennebunkport has no shortage of places to eat. I'd recommend choosing literally any of the ones where you're allowed to exist indoors while waiting for your breakfast sandwich.
