    Food, service, ambiance

Food was delicious! Service and ambiance was great! Place was full... really don't understand the bad reviews! Would definitely recommend!!

Miso crunch: vanilla cheesecake in an egg roll with chili chocolate and miso caramel

Came here at night time for drinks and dessert. We were able to get a table with a fire but did have to wait a bit. The drinks were all very good. They have a lot of great cocktails to choose from along with beer and other options. For dessert, they were all very cute. We decided to try all 4 of the desserts that they offered. I enjoyed the lemon tart the most. The other desserts were: one that was chocolate mousse with peanut butter, vanilla cheesecake in an egg roll, and raspberry vanilla cheesecake in the shape of a mushroom. Definitely a fun spot to hang out with friends or for a date night as it's located along the water. Our server was also very nice.

Sushi rolls were perfect, staff are friendly as always, and the views and ambiance were lovely.

I came here for lunch on a Friday and dined at the patio with an amazing view of the ocean. But I must admit that was the only exciting part about my experience. The service was really slow even though the restaurant wasn't that busy; it seemed like I was invisible. I ordered Lobster Roll with fries. The lobster roll was fresh and tasted good, but the fries were mostly burnt and very greasy.

They sat us at the bar for dinner. It is very expensive for eating at a bar. The food was bland and underwhelming. Service was slow. We watched plates of sushi sitting there for 30+ min to be picked up by wait staff. I do not recommend it. I had the halibut. Root vegetables were not cooked and rock hard. Halibut was overcooked and tough. Disappointed.

    poor service, ok food

Great looking establishment, lots of heated patio seating, food is ok but service is really down the drain somewhere. The staff may not know the menu very well so don't expect to get your questions answered. They also listen to your food requests but don't expect the kitchen to be able to follow through. We were a party of three. The place is busy. I requested low salt for my dish, the waitress comes back from the kitchen and says they'll do no salt. I repeated low salt and waitress says yes. My food comes to me without any adjustments, and for that it was a little oversalted. I gave up and just ate. But to give them credit the lobster was cooked to perfection, just barely fully cooked which takes skill. My friend asked for medium rare on her steak, the steak comes medium so they offered to redo the order and second time it came back medium. If you don't care much about service or food and just want a nice heated patio seat this is it. Otherwise Bicycle Thief is just over there. See my review for them.

This place was super busy for sitting outside, which is why we were attracted to it. The staff were really nice and polite. The food was so good. The rock shrimp was a perfect crisp, the crispy rice was sweet and the oysters were fresh. The lobster dinner was nice, came with a garlic butter. The lobster was juicy. All worth it.

    Mango (something I forget)

Great spot right on the water in Halifax. About a 15 minute walk from the cruise terminal. Plenty of outside/shaded seating with a nice view of the bay. Both drinks were fabulous and strong if I do say so myself. I had the nova bliss and my coworker had the mango (something I forget). Both super good. We ordered the Tokyo and Rainbow sushi rolls. I was expecting small rolls but these things were no joke. Couldn't even finish mine. But both were solid! Would day it's a must to stop in, at least for a drink, if you're in Halifax.

We were greeted warmly by Leslie who gave us "front-view" seats to the open kitchen. What a treat to see dish-after-dish of sumptuous looking food. We were assisted by Opal (appropriately named because she was a gem!) who was friendly, patient and knowledgeable about the menu. We decided to share two dishes. The pound of red Thai curry mussels was sooo good. It was served with 5 pieces of toasted bread for dipping into the mildly spicy curry soup/sauce. The generous Hanoi bun cha platter was a combination of rice noodles, tender, perfectly seasoned thin pork slices, 4 pork patties, and 4 pieces of spring rolls. It came with a basket of lettuce, cilantro and that delicious Vietnamese dipping sauce that was made even tastier by what I think were cloves of pickled ginger. Throughout the meal, Opal came by just the right number of times to check if we were satisfied or needed something. We loved our experience here and highly suggest you try it out. You'll be very happy.

It's a moderately-sized space, certainly smaller than many of its Freehand Hospitality peers at Queens Marque, but the closer, almost communal seating allows for a good number of people to dine here. The decor is quite reserved, with the ceiling actually being the show piece, as the layers of boards giving a scaled effect and a gradient of charring lending a really cool (hot?) look to the space. The menu is comprised of fancied-up twists on familiar cuisines from across East Asia, with dishes giving nods or deeply tied to countries like Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, and China to just name a few. Some of their smaller dishes were catching my eye, so I ordered the chicken and black garlic dumplings, and the mango salad, while my wife got the pho with spent hen broth. Ever since I first tried one, I've been a big fan of mango salads. The mix of flavours, colours and textures is top tier, and all in one, easily-chopsticked salad! Tori Dori's doesn't stray far from the template, with julienned mango, carrot and red onion that got a mix of heat, freshness, and savoury sweetness from chilis, mint, cilantro and a tamarind sauce. Anything with black garlic in it is bound to get me to order it, and while that unique preparation of garlic didn't feature as prominently on my taste buds as I would have liked, it did lend to a more savoury depth than chicken dumplings usually have. The tender and pleasantly toothsome wrappers held up well to their soy and vinegar dressing. The pho had a slightly more subtle broth than the beef ones that tend to be more common, but it was just as aromatic and satisfying as a good pho should be. Tender slices of chicken breast accompanied the typical pho accoutrements. The understated Tori Dori avoids the Instagram-bait vibe of some of its siblings, and delivers flavourful East Asian dishes with splashes of contemporary flair.

The place is spacious, and the buffet looked super appetising. We were asked to sit anywhere, so we sat near the window. Getting our food, we chose a lot of the seafood, salad, tried some of the different styles foods, and of course- the Chinese part of the buffet. The shrimp in shell were not de-veined, and the tempura shrimp tasted like it was paste. The crab was cooked well, and the fish in batter was cooked nicely. The fruit and ice cream were the saving grace, as they had the regular jellos, cookies, and small sweets. They didn't have seafood sauve, only replaced with spicy Mayo and some weird sweet chili sauce. The choices with the Chinese foods were cooked amazingly, and the noodles weren't soggy or super dry. The price was 20$ a person, and even with the 5$ coupon, came to 18 and change. Not really the price range I would expect from a smaller buffet area. View was gorgeous, and the staff were prompt and courteous. I will definitely be going back.

However when I was going to pay my bill, the cashier charged me $50 and a $1.49 sauce fee. The reason was that the this kind of meal must be ordered for two people and once it was ordered by one people, double price was charged. Neither signs of this regulation could be found on the page of this meal nor I was informed by the waitress. I could say this restaurant lied to me because I was told by the waitress that the sauce fee was included but still I was charged. For a moment I wanted to call the police, but since this is the New Year's Eve and I don't want my mood ruined by quarrel. I will never go to this restaurant again and I suggest readers of this review please do pay more attention on the price of this restaurant. Happy new year!
