Cool Atmosphere, Great Drinks - Just Didn't Hit the Mark for Us This Time I'm giving Sea Smoke a 2 out of 5, but to be fair, we totally see the appeal of this spot and imagine we would've enjoyed it more if we'd been able to explore more of the menu. The patio is beautiful, with cozy fire pits right by the water--such a great vibe for an evening out. The drink menu is solid, too. I really enjoyed my craft beer, and my wife was happy with her cocktail--both were well made and refreshing. We didn't go all in on a full meal, but we did try one of their more unique appetizers--the salmon cigar. It sounded creative and caught our attention, so we gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it just wasn't our thing. My wife liked it a bit more than I did, but even she wasn't fully sold on it. That said, props to the kitchen for taking risks and trying something different--you can tell there's thought and ambition behind the menu. All in all, we didn't love our experience, but we still respect what Sea Smoke is doing, and would love to come back someday and give the full dinner a proper try when our budget allows it! read more

Came here at night time for drinks and dessert. We were able to get a table with a fire but did have to wait a bit. The drinks were all very good. They have a lot of great cocktails to choose from along with beer and other options. For dessert, they were all very cute. We decided to try all 4 of the desserts that they offered. I enjoyed the lemon tart the most. The other desserts were: one that was chocolate mousse with peanut butter, vanilla cheesecake in an egg roll, and raspberry vanilla cheesecake in the shape of a mushroom. I'll be honest: I originally came to Sea Smoke to borrow their wi-fi. But also because everyone sitting outside at those fire-tables looks like they're living their best life. Once we were seated (and then reseated after discovering our first table's propane had given up), it became clear why: the sweeping ocean views, the prime people-watching real estate, and yes, an actual fire pit built into your table (which has clearly claimed a few menus as casualties). The food was solid. The sushi rolls featured high-quality scallops, and mercifully, they don't pad everything with an aggressive amount of rice like some places do when they're hoping carbs will do the heavy lifting. The happy hour oysters were fresh, local, and hit the right notes with a glass of Tidal Bay. Nothing was revelatory--honestly, I've already forgotten what else we ordered--but that's not really the point here. You're paying for the view and the vibe, and on that front, Sea Smoke absolutely delivers. Sometimes that's enough. read more

I ordered the $70CAD entree called the Sea Smoke Skillet, it was served with lobster tail sliced in two, shrimp with tail on and scallops and it all was sitting in a sticky sweet sauce billed as "chili butter sauce" it was 1/2" thick on the plate and impossible to eat without getting your hands sticky. The corn on the cob was also placed in the sauce making it impossible to eat. No one asked of the meal was okay. It also took an extraordinarily long time, I can forgive that based on how busy it was. I am not one to complain, but this was over the top based on the price. read more

Fresh seafood, well executed, included a whole lobster tail. The chirashi#2 was a 3. Good sashimi, sushi rice was just okay. The wasabi was so hot that I couldn't even handle a tiny tab. Great looking establishment, lots of heated patio seating, food is ok but service is really down the drain somewhere. The staff may not know the menu very well so don't expect to get your questions answered. They also listen to your food requests but don't expect the kitchen to be able to follow through. We were a party of three. The place is busy. I requested low salt for my dish, the waitress comes back from the kitchen and says they'll do no salt. I repeated low salt and waitress says yes. My food comes to me without any adjustments, and for that it was a little oversalted. I gave up and just ate. But to give them credit the lobster was cooked to perfection, just barely fully cooked which takes skill. My friend asked for medium rare on her steak, the steak comes medium so they offered to redo the order and second time it came back medium. Great spot right on the water in Halifax. About a 15 minute walk from the cruise terminal. Plenty of outside/shaded seating with a nice view of the bay. Both drinks were fabulous and strong if I do say so myself. I had the nova bliss and my coworker had the mango (something I forget). Both super good. We ordered the Tokyo and Rainbow sushi rolls. I was expecting small rolls but these things were no joke. Couldn't even finish mine. But both were solid! Would day it's a must to stop in, at least for a drink, if you're in Halifax. read more

Food here was sub par. I ordered the lobster roll and barely got any lobster inside of it which was really a shame considering I paid $25 for it. It also took over 30 minutes to get our food which was a bit of a long wait. The waitress thankfully was really nice but all in all the food isn't really worth the high price they're selling it for and the wait times are just too long. I'm so glad I stopped in here before reading some of these reviews, or I would have missed out on some of the yummiest sushi and super friendly service while visiting Halifax!! I had the tuna-tini and the spicy miso soup - both delicious. I took up prime real estate on the patio while my party of one was drinking wine and reading a book...something many servers would probably dread during a busy lunch rush. My service was exceptional. The waiter was attentive, but not too much, so that I could bury myself in my book. The views are perfect for any occasion, as the restaurant is right up on the water. Lovely and "reliable" place! Never disappoints! Our favorite goto spot every time we come to Halifax.

Had reservations well in advance. Called when Covid numbers started to rise to see if our reservation was still okay. The lady on the phone had no clue what the protocol was for the establishment and told us we would get a call back. Never heard anything. Received a confirmation for our reservation the day before and accepted it thinking it was okay. 7hrs before our reservation we were informed that our reservation is now canceled. Tried to call in order to ask what's going on and no one would answer the phone. They handled the whole situation very poorly. read more

There was nothing but coleslaw with onion and cucumber. Saw some small pieces of red that could have been lobster meat? Too small to tell. Really? I ordered a lobster roll here, and it was disgraceful! The order was to go and when I got home and opened the box, I was speechless. Inside was a small hot dog bun with a mushed up mayo/lettuce/(supposedly lobster) mix spread thin inside! No chunks of lobster meat whatsoever! They charged me $26.00 for that crappy sandwich. The unagi sauce, poppy seed dressing, and panko breading is what makes it. It's description on the menu alone will make your mouth water and the windows steam Mussels (5/5) wow wow wow wow these mussels are niiiice. Wow. A bit of garlic, sake, ginger, coriander and scallion. Such flavor! Would order this every time. Jalapeño Hamachi (4/5) the wasabi aioli is great and the jalapeño is very subtle yet enough flavor.
