Love this company! Our sliding glass door was getting warped and the rollers weren't functioning. Got an estimate from other companies who said they don't repair doors that they didn't install and that we'd have to install a whole new door and side panels, which would've cost an arm and a leg. Our neighbor recommended we contact Screens & Things. We called and they sent Wayne right away to do an estimate. Due to his experience, he knew he could fix our door. I find it's getting harder these days to experience good customer service. But after my dealing with Screens and Things I'm a believer again. From the initial phone call for an estimate, and especially with the installation process, everything went smoothly and efficiently. Friends and colleagues said I could have gotten a cheaper deal somewhere else, but I don't mind paying for service when I get true service. You get what you pay for. My screens were installed quickly and even though I had a minor issue with the sliding screen door, they were back to fix the problem within 30 minutes of my calling them. Ordered three safety screens, three all weather louvre & two safety screen doors. Cost 8,000 took over four months from order to finish, for the money the safety screen looks great but only one weak looking lock that came with it nothing safety about it.cost 2,000 each.Windows I'm happy with it. As far as customer service poor ratings never let's you know how my orders coming along & when scheduling work order makes me wait half a day waiting for workers to start sad. Ordered a replacement sliding screen door with pet screen. A Fri install was scheduled and they were inflexible with the time. When they did arrive on Fri the pet screen was not installed. Needed to take back to shop and promised install on Sat. No call and was told there was a "miscommunication" and it was scheduled for the Mon. On Mon no call and was told that it would now be on Tue! The install took approx 15 minutes. Do not trust appointment time or service that is promised to you. Be prepared to contact to confirm appointment days and times otherwise there may be a "miscommunication". read more

They all were very professional from the time I first called to get an estimate to the time the installer did his job. Was recommended to go to screens and things by my building manager. I submitted a request online and was later called to go over/review my request (standard procedure for Screens and Things). Over the phone had great customer service. When I went in store to pick up an item, the person who helped me did not want to refer to the file I had created online/over the phone. As we were talking, I asked if he could look at the file I created since I believed it had all the information he was looking for (photos, part name/number, etc). He ignored me the first time but when I brought it up again he sarcastically responded with "oh are you trying to say your file has pertinent information that you think can help?" We'll eventually he just asked for my building name and told me the part I was looking for was somewhere on "that wall." My encounters with other staff have been a hit or miss as well. Overall I'd recommend working on their customer service aspect as I'm a little hesitant to go back despite being able to find what I needed. I do like their website and the service I received over the phone was good. It was just the in-person service that left a subpar impression (went in 2 days on separate occasions). read more

A few months ago we had a beautiful custom screen made for our place. It fit exactly and was made heavy duty. We have since moved and bought the unit next-door and the screen is shot! We decided to give them a try again and we were very disappointed. All of the sudden it's going to be much more expensive to have this one measured, made, and delivered. We asked if they could just use the same measurements as before since the condos are all pretty much the same and they wanted us to sign a waiver basically saying they aren't responsible if it doesn't fit. This makes sense but honestly they had a problem for every solution during the conversation and made it much more difficult than it needed to be. It really seemed like they just didn't want our business and they kept finding ways to discourage us from using their service. Too bad, we really liked our last screen and it was almost 500 bucks, you would think they would need that money during all the economic problems going on. read more

I needed all the window screens and 1 sliding screen door replaced in my townhouse a total of 18 screens so I contacted Screens and Things to schedule an estimate. The best they could do would be in 16 days which I agreed to. The appointment was scheduled for 1:30. The day before the appointment I received a courtesy call from their office telling me I had an appointment the next day and someone would be over between 8 and 5 . I told them that I had a 1:30 appointment and was told promptly that they only make all day appointments not specific times?? This immediately indicated to me there might be a problem with this company. The estimator came over around 1:30 and did a professional job measuring all the windows and when finished said they would have an estimate for me in a couple of days. I got the proposal 6 days later after calling them inquiring about its progress. I was told that a new employee was handling my proposal and that was the reason for the delay. Another question about this company. A couple of days later I went to their office signed the paperwork as presented to me and made a 50% deposit. Ten days later I received a call from their office saying I need to sign another page of their proposal. More questions now about this company. I told them that I could sign the last page when I came over to pick up the screens which I assumed were almost done. They had my 50% deposit and the signed proposal in their office for 10 days.. I received a call from the manager and she told me that "AS A COURTESY TO ME" they would proceed with the manufacturing without my signature on the second page. WHAT! !?? It had been over a month since I first called them and they hadn't started working on my proposal. Needless to say I was extremely upset and told her to cancel my order and refund me my 50% deposit since they hadn't started production. She said she would credit my card that day. The following day they notified me that their owner said they could complete my order in two days. At that point I was not interested in giving them my busines and demanded a refund which was granted. I immediately went with another screeng company and they promised to complete the job within a week which they did at a cheaper price which included installation. I'm not sure about the company's product which I assume is acceptable but the way they run their business is questionable. As a customer I certainly was not satisfied with trying to do business with Screens and Things. My advise is to shop around and consider the other options available out there. read more

We have had our Malama screen door for years. Needed the handle and dead bolt fixed because it broke. Because they installed the door, we needed to buy the replacement part and they would service with no charge. Bottom line, they were very professional and efficient. They discovered that I was also missing door screws and immediately fixed that problem. The door is working perfectly now. I contacted this business regarding replacing a sliding screen door. I spoke with Samantha who was very helpful and friendly. She arranged an appointment for the repair but mentioned I could also bring the screen door in to their shop if I wanted to save some money. I was able to get the door off and took in to their shop the following Saturday. Katherine was able to help me and the technician finished the repair in about an hour and I was able to take it home without having to comeback. Great service great people. read more

I agree with the other "one star" reviewers. If there was a "zero"... My wife and I went to the BIA show last weekend to specifically research two improvements to our home. One was a security type screen door. We found the Screens &Things display and approached an individual, with the company logo on it. He saw us coming and made an immediate 180 turn to join his colleagues chewing the fat. We stood there dumbfounded, then kind of angry and eventually strayed away. An hour later and after a very engaging conversation with RMA Sales, who has an outstanding security screen door, we decided to give S&T another chance, just to compare prices. We looked over the same door, stood there for about two minutes while the three gentlemen in their black polo shirts turned their backs to us. I walked over to them to look at their business card, just to verify which company I will NEVER patronize, when one of the three haole guys turned, glanced at me, then turn his back to me again. Maybe because I'm not white, but in Hawaii, you can't do business like that. It's their loss, we set aside $2,500 for this project and guess who will NOT get our business! read more

This is an update to this review after a VP called me. Thank you for calling me and offering to rekey the door. I really do respect that someone called and took responsibility over the issue. It's too bad your staff spent so much time trying to explain to me why they couldn't do what was promised. It took me only 10 mins total to rekey the door, which is probably why your sales person recommend the"smart key" lock set and said that install team could rekey in the first place. I actually wish I knew about this "smart key" product earlier because it's pretty cool. The invoice process after the install was an issue as well, like we discussed. I hope that in the future, you address these issues and provide a discount for wasted customer time.....as our time is as valuable as yours. read more

Poor customer service, very disappointed. I've waited for almost 2 weeks after my window measurement done by a tech from Screen & Things, no one ever follow up regarding the order since that day. The tech has measured and just left without telling me what to do next, I thought the order has been processed so I waited for them to let me know when its done. After so many days, I decided to call them to find out how that goes, but nothing was done since the day of measurement, now they asked me more than x4 of estimated price and deposit for 60% of the price to process the order. I live in San Diego, and have a rental in Honolulu. And the unit has an old lock on the sliding door that is broken. I've called several places to see if they could fix my lock, to no avail. Used this firm ten years ago. Service and personnel were fantastic. A single slider screen for lanai condo. Wanted to replace because it was destroyed in an accident. Called from a neighbor island. Got a guote from a really nice woman. Got to Oahu to measure, requote, arrange etc. no one heard of me. No problem. Gave dimensions and asked for a requote so we could arrange house visit. Lost again. Called again. Got a call two days later from a hurried woman who asked for dimensions again. And then said product would cost twice as much as I was quoted by first woman from nice woman. Twice. I hung up. Two days later I got another call saying they had a quote for me if I called back. I was in no mood. I was president of the condo board. Still am on as well as legal counsel. Overpriced & not customer friendly, I paid $236.20 for a 36" by 79.5" sliding screen door!! Auwe. I submitted my measurements to Kaniala, explained to him that my top to bottom track measurements were 79.5 inches, he asked me if I wanted to add on 3/16" to overall & I asked will it be made to slip into 79.5 track, he responded yes. Oh well guess what, it did not fit, had them modify & cut 3/16" off. OK that will cost me $55.00, ask to see manager, best thing she could do was to correct their $55.00 estimate to $43.02. Grand Total cost for the sliding screen door $279.22. You got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well never again, but must say, Door fitted and looked great once installed. read more

I have had several replacement windows and sliding doors replaced by Screens and Things. Robert Kincaid has prescribed the ideal solutions for my house which is subject to intense rainfall and winds. I recently had a series of four high picture windows 71" high installed in a wet and dry rotted set of enclosures that the previous contractor had sloppily put in using old wood and bondo paste. BobMahalo builders installed the new aluminum based tempered glass windows which had a base with weep holes to permit the draining of any future water intrusions away from the sills. The new sliding door is a heavyweight, anodized aluminum safety door with locking latch and screen sliding door on the outside. Robert Jenkins, a skilled carpenter and remodeling specialist works with excellent detail and finishing techniques and it is the first time I have had such a high degree of professionalism in a remodeling and installation job. His fee was more than reasonable for the quality of work which he performed on the Fleetwood window and sliding door. We needed new lanai door rollers as moving the doors could have dislocated a shoulder. Screens and Things replaced the rollers and now the doors slide they are on greased skids. Expensive tho. We decided to go with Screen and Things since my inlaws put their screen door in with them. My in-laws did say they had to wait about 4 months for the door and at that time I wasn't the one waiting and they didn't seem too bothered by it since they are elderly and that is pretty much all they do all day is wait around for stuff. However every week when we would go over we would always say...they door is STILL not here. I guess we thought we would have better luck....NOPE! We ordered 2 very expensive screen doors with heavy duty locks. It took, as you can guess, forever to come. When it finally got here they brought the wrong door...we waited soooooo long we just decided to take the door...but wait there's more. The lock was busted...so we called them again to come and fix it. It took them almost 2 more months for them to come and fix the lock. The doors are good...so if you have time on your hands and you don't mind waiting half the year for the job to get done then this is the place to go. I realize times might tough but if they had communicated with me how long it would take then I would know but I NEVER knew when they come or call. I would have to call them...it felt unsafe to have a busted lock for so long. Bottom line...product is not bad, customer service needs work. read more

Worst service ever.... I had my glass window inspected and the inspector notated that my house was on the market to sale. To note the urgency. Received a call saying I would have a quote after the new year holiday. I waited and had no response. I had to call multiple times and was told someone would call me back. The sad thing is a supervisor even failed to contact me when had my quote in hand. After waiting so long the repair cost more than a new window itself. ($800.00 more) Now my house is in escrow and I am behind a week because of their lack in Customer Service. I would not recommend them. If it was possible I would give them no STARS. read more
