One of my favorite lunch spots in Monte Vista. The ham and brie sandwich is delicious, chicken salad is good, but I love their pimento cheese! Luckily they sell their pimento cheese and chicken salad individually to go, perfect for lunch the next day! Their bakery items are delicious. The cookies and lemon bars are also some of the best in town. My only advice is having self-serve tea and water that are refilled frequently. I really wanted to like this place. I live within walking distance and I gave it several chances. Great quiche, slightly overpriced sandwiches; it's a hit or a miss as far as food. Service is awful. Expect to wait 30 min to get your order on a slow day, even when there are literally more employees than customers. Even ordering from the display case when all they have to do is warm up your pastry in the microwave seems to make the employees drag their feet. EVERY SINGLE TIME. This is easily becoming one of my favorite breakfast places in San Antonio. Their menu is not huge but I prefer that because the attention and care they put into each menu item really shines through. This new bakery and cafe has a great atmosphere, helpful staff and really delicious food. I went for lunch and had the mozzarella sandwich with roasted cauliflower and a quinoa salad as sides. Everything was perfectly prepared and very tasty, and the lunch came with a mini cupcake. The mini cupcake was so good that I bought a regular sized cupcake to go. I really enjoyed my lunch under the trees on their patio. I had a delicious chicken salad sandwich on 4 grain bread, tasty quinoa, and a good portion of fresh fruit. They even gave me 1/2 of a pecan bar with my lunch order, all for under $11! Everything in the bakery case looked delicious. This place is super adorable! As soon as you walk in you can smell fresh pastries. They play music on a little old timely radio and it's very relaxing as it's super hot out. I've only been here for pastries. I've had the chocolate cupcake, cinnamon roll, pecan bar, and a quiche. All four were too dry for my taste (no matter what time of day I ordered). The flourless cupcake uses a lot of cocoa, which is fine. The powdered sugar and raspberry on top make a nice contrast. But it's not dense the way that a lot of flourless baked items are. It's very crumbly. I have to drink a glass of water along with it because my mouth gets so dry. The cinnamon roll appears to be an ordinary yeast roll with some brown sugar/toasted [walnuts?] in the various layers, then a few crumble bits on top and a very light touch of dry icing. None of that richness you get from every other cinnamon roll I've had anywhere or made from a can. The quiche had tasty component ingredients but was still...dry. I guess that's to be expected from a reheated quiche, but still. The pecan bar was a good example of a pecan bar, except that Scratch (deliberately?) way overcooks the edges. If you caramelize all that sugar, you end up with a dry, toffee-like confection that is delicious but liable to pull out your fillings. The coffee was hot and tasty. Prices are in line with other local coffee shops, and Starbucks for that matter. Very pleasant decor indoor and out, and the staff is always friendly and authentically hipster. read more

I asked for no bacon or egg yoke because of diet restrictions and they were more than willing to accommodate me. I was really looking forward to lunch here based on all the great reviews, unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. The only thing that tasted decent was the half-pecan bar that came with the meal. I ordered the BLT on a bun. The bread was stale and the bacon was so over cooked it was basically crumbs. Also, the bacon was a cheap cut and tasted that way. The 4.5 star review made me choose this place over others closer to us, but I wish I hadn't. I ordered Croque Madam and my husband ordered the cinnamon roll bread pudding. My sandwich was good, but the side of potatoes were rock hard and overdone to the point that I couldn't bite through some of them. My husbands bread pudding was burned on top and dry in the middle. Even the syrup couldn't redeem it. We wanted to order the empanadas, but were told they were still working on them and it would be 90 minutes. Seating is limited and the counter ordering area seems dirty and tired. Not the experience I expected with a 4.5 star review. Came here with my husband recently. We ordered a number of breakfast items. The biscuits are perfectly homemade. I also tried their version of a pigs in a blanket (with cheese, yum!).
