Opted for the red velvet cupcake w/my lunch, absolutely delicious, frosting was right on and not too sweet and the cupcake was the perfect compliment to hit the sweet spot after finishing lunch. Opted for chicken salad on wheat bread, chicken salad had great flavor bread had a slight toast to it, that was again the perfect touch, with the salad came 2 sides, my choices were roasted cauliflower & fruit. The cauliflower was roasted perfectly & flavor full. Fruit was seasonal and tasty. Seating limited and quaint. Sat family still at a table w/other lunchers. A bit hot inside the restaurant, but hey, this is Texas, it's hot everywhere. read more

I rarely write reviews that are this poor, which is so sad because I had such high hopes for this place! My husband and I are new to San Antonio and thought we would grab a quick brunch since it looked so good. We arrived at 12pm exactly and ordered 5-10 minutes after that. And then we waited, and waited. Our food did not come out until 1:30pm. I kid you not, an hour and a half later, for two sandwiches. About an hour and ten minutes after we placed our order, my husband went to check if they had forgotten it, to which they replied "Sorry, we just have a lot of orders right now." I understand that they likely have orders through other avenues such as take out but we watched everyone who was there prior to us receive their food, eat it, and leave. At 1pm it was just us and another couple outside. I feel that this timeline is simply unacceptable for a business, even one that prides themselves on making everything from scratch, especially at a $30 price point. We spoke with them after we finally got our food (which we quickly ate because we were starving at that point), just to let them know that our experience was so disappointing. Surely the business model should be changed if food comes out that slow. To their credit, they were kind and said we could come in again for another brunch if we wanted to. The food was very good but not worth an hour and a half wait in my opinion. I don't think we'll be back unless it's to pick up pastries quickly or something. read more

Very tasty Monte Cristo on their fresh bread and yummy raspberry dipping sauce; fresh, pretty fruit, good coffee & salad. Good-sized servings. Was a little disappointed not to be offered mini cupcake with meal, but did enjoy the half brownie with walnuts. Outdoor seating was great that day. Possibly one suggestion - when ordering, another diner asked for a knife to cut their sandwich. We also went back and requested a knife - just give the plastic knife, along with other utensils. Stopped in after I saw reviews for nearby bakeries. Staff is super attentive and friendly. The coffee and kids drinks were great. We loved it! The reason why I am leaving the 4 star is because of the available seating. There is not really anywhere to sit, the tables have really wide gaps not suitable for cups or utensils. I guess it was because there were 3 of us to a two seater table. The cinnamon roll was very dry and lacked flavor. It looked pleasing in the case but was not what I was expecting at all. Couldn't even taste the icing if there was supposed to be any at all. BUT the coffee was great. Would definitely be back for the coffee. After trying the pastry I don't think I'd actually be interesting in the food. read more

It reminded me of going to breakfast at a friend's home both in the level of attentiveness by the owners and the love that they appeared to put into their food. Stepping foot into their establishment, I was immediately hit by the smell of fresh baked pastries and breakfast treats. We went for brunch, though this is easily a good place for carry out sandwiches, baked goods, or small quiches. Their quiches are sold in other coffee shops in San Antonio (like white elephant) and are easily my favorite thing here. Otherwise, their brunch selection is small, but well executed. There is a patio out front or a small amount of indoor seating, but it generally appears to be a hit among locals for grab and go food. Definitely worth a try! read more

The reason for the one star isn't because of the food but rather the lack of worry that the place is surrounded in flys. And their desert case is open for the flys to just sit and leave disgusting bacteria all over the food. Same as in the kitchen, as I watch my food being made there are flys on the man making my food and flys on the equipment my food is being made on. GROSS!!! When I mentioned it to the young man behind the counter taking my order his response as he chuckled was "well it's fly season so" well for one you could have a covering on your bakery case and some kind of fly traps by the door or whatever is allowed for restaurant code. Not to mention the young man is talking about the flys and me mentioning it the entire time he's in the back. The young man also told his coworker that his new response is now going to be " I just work here"! I'm sorry but if you don't take pride in your place of employment maybe you should do something else with your life. Maybe you don't care that your food is covered in fly POOP but other do care. At least if your gonna talk about a customer wait till they leave, this place isn't that big, so yes we heard ever comment out of your smart mouth. Basing this on our first visit here. WHAT A CUTE LIL PLACE! The ambiance here is relaxing and peaceful. Very homey. Staff were busy but very kind. It's not the fastest place to get a meal. Seems like it would be best not to be in a hurry but for the taste, I suppose worth it. The desserts are flavorful. Gotta give the blueberry muffin a big thumbs up for packing the fruit in and keeping it REAL. The flourless chocolate cupcake was the bomb. It had a splash of color with a juicy sweet raspberry that did the job. In fact, if they wanted to throw more raspberries on top that would be good too. The meal was very nice and well presented even in a to go box for it. They have complimentary fruit infused water. It's a cute little place to beat the heat and enjoy a meal or pastry with friends. Or order to go and just probably have a whole party catered. Not sure if they do that but they could. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of the wait at lunch time during the week. we tried to have brunch at nola but the line was long and it was freezing, so we drove by this tiny little house (they could probably eat 6 people total inside) and luckily it was empty. what is it about san antonio? food took a solid 30 min to come out. i noticed that it was just one dude in the back cooking everything (from scratch) with a little griddle, but there were other staff members too? they were all really nice though and i liked the display of goodies and selection of the brunch menu. either way, the biscuits and gravy were yummy; did not enjoy my bacon avocado sandwich too much though. The sausage empanada was yummy too; since that was premade, all they did was pop it in the oven and it came out to the table pretty quickly. the bathroom was very cute and spacious and has a changing table inside. not a bad place for brunch if there's room for you, but if you are in a hurry you're better off at a chain. read more

I went to a Yelp Event here and this is my review for that, because for some reason my app wouldn't let me check in nor post a review directly. This is a cute little cafe type restaurant with more outdoor seating than in. The owners said it used to be a hair salon, which is pretty cool. The owner was so sweet and answered everyone's questions, but her baby stole the show. Totally adorable. Anyway, on to the food, they have a wonderful Mediterranean Quinoa salad that is so well balanced, I could easily eat like 3 servings of it. It's light and refreshing, but packed full of nutrients. It's a delicious vegetarian option. In addition to that, I got to try a mushroom empanada. Yes please! Savory and salty filling packed into a flaky outer crust, yum! I sampled the lemon tart and it's my new favorite thing, I've always been a fan of lemon desserts and this one is so good. They also have a delightfully rich flourless chocolate cake for anyone with gluten intolerance. I absolutely will be back! This place isn't close to where I live, but it'll be worth the drive and trying to find parking. read more

I came in because of all the good reviews. I really wanted to like it! When you come in it's very small, I was confused on how to order then I saw the menus, and that you had to order them sit and eat. The customer service was awful, the guy taking the orders looked like he was just not in the mood. There's cups for water but it's hot you have to ask for ice. We went to sit down and the table was not cleaned from the previous party. We sat at a dirty table the whole time. The food was not very good in my opinion and definitely not cheap. I also had a sweet pastry that I upgraded from the mini cupcake that comes with the meal. Perfection! The establishment is small and very quaint. Minimal indoor seating. We would've sat outside but it was raining that day. Minimal parking so we had to park a block down the street. Perfect for quick meal with a friend. The food is good but the seating is lackluster, especially during the summer. We went in the middle of the week after the typical lunch rush. They have very few seating options inside so we had to sit outside. It wasn't terrible in the shade but the outdoor furniture is not the sturdiest. The food was very tasty though. I had the grilled pimento cheese sandwich and would go back for this alone. Plus, it's nice you get 2 sides and a dessert with a meal. You won't leave hungry! Not a good value for your money. I ordered the salmon toast for $6.50 and expected to get two pieces of toast. However...I did not. I was literally one piece of toast with cream cheese, capers, a few green onions and thinly sliced salmon. While it was tasty, I felt like I'd get much more at another establishment. My daughter had the bacon and egg sandwich for $6. It was a much better value for the money. She enjoyed it. Service left something to be desired as well. Water tasted weird. Very small selection.
