Another hidden gem in Lafayette (moreso physically hidden, behind Esprit de Couer), Scratch Kitchen is a farm-to-table restaurant serving up delicious fresh food for brunch and lunch! The busy-ness here can be intimidating at first, but our food came out pretty fast! Heck, it took longer to order than to wait for the food. Speaking of the food, I had a Pretty Plate, which comes with one protein, a salad, and two additional sides. I chose sweet potato and strawberries with yogurt. Y'all.... everything was so good. I cannot put into words how much I enjoyed my time for lunch here. First off this place is a cute blue building on Garfield street that I never would of came across until I did my research. My friend and I have been looking to try out farm to table options and this place truly exceeded our expectations. I ordered a tumeric rice bowl with egg, lima beans and vegetable fixings while my friend ordered the pretty plate with chicken and a good helping of sweet potato. My meal was full of flavor from start to finish. I use to hate lima beans but it really paired well with the other bowl ingredients. I could not leave without trying the Vietnamese coffee cake. It was the moistest most delicious cake I had ever eaten!! There weren't any plastic utensils or containers in sight! This is very environment friendly! This is a lovely small farm to table breakfast to lunch place that has off street parking! Which most places in Lafayette don't- so that's a bonus to start. The exterior is lovely with tubs of flowers and flowers are also planted along the wall of the building where you park. You order at the front counter when you walk in, the menu is on the board on the left. I ate the hash bowl with pork patty and my yard egg sunny side up and soft. It was a thing of beauty to cut into it and watch that yolk run down! They not only had large chunks of potatoes perfectly cooked with some golden brown and delicious sides. I have tomato allergy. So they didn't put tomato in my bowl! It had fresh sprouts and green beans and pickled onions and jalapeños, which I wish I would have said, no jalapeños please, when I ordered. Because they were pickled and spicy and I was not in the mood for spicy pickled jalapeños covering the subtle flavors of the egg, potatoes, ground pork Patty, which was very large! I got a small piece of cake from the desert display: OH MY GOD! I thought the hash bowl was good, that blueberry cake, with purple frosting, that was the perfect level of sweetness- meaning not too sweet!- was topped with fresh blueberries and lemon zest! It was divine and I hope they have more the next time I come back. I also had lavender lemonade, which you taste more of the lavender than the Leo- perfection- just sweet enough, if sweet at all. I added it to my water bottle and another mason jar (how the lemonades are served) of ice to my water bottle and topped it off after I stopped eating the hash bowl so I could eat the small slice of blueberry cake! I actually licked the small plate! The staff is fun and friendly. Service is excellent- my egg was cooked perfectly! I got the hash bowl because a trio of locals who are cousins came in as I was reading the menu. The menu is on the wall. There is no menu to find on line. They change things according to what is available from local farmers! You can customize your order! That's a plus and they even have a huge Berky in the rear of the place where I topped off my 32 Oz water bottle I bring everywhere and I still taste the lavender! Clean and fresh and tasty. Even can sit outside at a couple of tables for 2! Not large, but a gem of a place! Go eat there- and save room for dessert! I can't wait to go back! read more

Their food is fresh and ethical. Here's examples, a lady from Mississippi stone grinds the grits herself and instead of corn syrup filled ketchup they give you a homemade ketchup made from beets that's so so delicious. The chefs are hardworking and creative. Peach hot sauce for the win! Al the workers were hustling equally as hard. This business does their best to minimize waste which is such a difficult feat in the restaurant industry. Food is good but not worth the wait and they act special because they don't publish any of their rules. Such as no takeouts on Saturdays. If it's a rule or even a possibility they should post it somewhere instead of letting people wait in line 45 minutes to order only to be told they aren't doing takeouts!! My wife and I finally had the chance to check this place out and we were not disappointed. The day we went was burger day. I had the house burger and it was fantastic! The patty was seasoned well, cooked to perfection and nice and juicy. To top it off, the bun was fantastic. My wife tried the veggie burger and she really liked it. I am not a veggie burger aficionado, but I tried it and was pleasantly surprised. The "patty" was substantial and the texture was excellent. It had great flavor and was overall a great burger. The only thing we didn't particularly care for was the house potatoes. They were a bit soggy and lacking in flavor. The beet ketchup that came with the potatoes was very good, but I'm not sure I would order them again. The lavender lemonade here is fantastic as well!! Overall, we were very satisfied. read more

The food has always been excellent. Healthy interesting choices and they even have parking in downtown Lafayette which is difficult to find. No I do not remember exactly what we had. The menu is blackboard changes regularly. No I had some strawberries and some sort of cheese it was just what I was looking for. And I just don't remember what my partner had although some sort of salad. I forgot to post a review when I was there so doing it now. Food was great we loved it and we will be back.
