Came here for takeaway during covid times. Had heard about their killer breakfast sandwiches which they only after on Friday and Saturday's until 12pm. Sadly we arrived too late for those but it wasn't a total loss because we were so happy with the items we picked up. Cocoa earl grey cruller - not your typical chewy cruller texture from other donuts spots. The outside has a nice crisp and the inside almost melted in my mouth. It was a good balance of flavors between the cocoa and earl grey. Not too sweet. Egg tart - similar to a Portuguese egg tart. The crust was buttery and flaky. The ratio of custard to crust was good. Mushroom quiche - the crust is *chefs kiss* - so buttery and flaky. The quiche was delicious and ingredients tasted very fresh. Overall: Fine to try a few times a year, but is the line and price worth it every weekend? Definitely not. Send one of your group members as tribute to wait and order your food, try it once, and maybe come back in a few months. Without the line, it would be an easy 4. Location: Super easy to get to at the center of downtown. They have it setup so you wait outside in line, order from right outside the door, and wait along the street by the cars. You will be waiting!! We got in line at 9:15am on a Saturday and stood in line for 30min before ordering them waited another 15min for food (since we ordered sandwiches). Service: Helpful staff. They try to get food out as it's ready. We received our drinks first and were almost done by the time we got our food. Food: Limited menu so it should be easy to order - basic coffee shop menu, pastries, and three egg sandwich options. The drinks are standard - it was nice that they had macadamia nut milk though! Now for the food... Gingerbread curler - while the flavor of gingerbread was great, I think it would have been better without the sugar coating. Pear almond pie - basically a croissant, but the flavors seem a little exaggerated, almost as if they added pear and almond extract. It was fine. Coffee cake - The flavor was there but it has a ton of butter. I've never had a coffee cake leave that aftertaste in my mouth. It was more like a pound cake. Ham bun / Bacon bun - It was nice that the sweetness of the brioche bun complimented the sandwich. The ratio of bun, meat, cheese was perfect, but was it worth the 45 min wait and $9? What a great find! Upon a friend's suggestion, my husband and I came to Scram to buy some of their pastries (raspberry muffin, scone) and immediately came back to Scram a few days later on the weekend to try their breakfast. This place is a true gem - best pastries and breakfast in town, small business, and the nicest staff ever. To date, we've tried about 5 different pastries here, 2 breakfast sandwiches, and 1 drink and there is not an item we would not recommend. The only thing is, I wish their breakfast sandwich was a daily item and not just a weekend item. My husband and I lined up for Scram on a Saturday around 9am because that was how badly we wanted to try their breakfast sandwich. Luckily, the wait wasn't long and before we know it, we brought home with us their ham bun and bacon bun. The ham bun has this to die for pineapple marinade that goes so well with the ham. On the other hand, the bacon bun has this perfectly cooked egg that oozes out immediately. I am telling you - if you're reading this far into my post and haven't decided to try Scram yet, you will regret! Highly recommend the blackberry earl grey iced tea, their ham bun, and all / any of their pastries. Holy egg tarts, Batman. After passing by this place and seeing a line outside for the egg sandwiches, I decided to give it a whirl. I couldn't wait in line with a three year old in tow but there was no wait for pastries so we snagged two egg tarts and some quiches. AND MY GOD - I've had my fair share of egg tarts around the world but these were damn delicious. For both the egg tarts and quiches, the crusts are flakey and crispy. No chewy sogginess here. And the egg tart was creamy and perfectly lightly sweet. The quiches were the bomb. My only problem is we are addicted and I can't imagine eating buttery creamy goodness is healthy on a regular basis but they are what everyone deserves right this minute. We got an order of biscuits, the orange rolls, and two types of quiches from Scram and everything was incredible. We placed the order earlier in the week and then picked up on Sunday. We picked up the food relatively late so the food wasn't warm when we got home, but it was easy enough to reheat, and it was well worth the effort. i finally woke up early enough to order from Scram, and had such a good experience. my boyfriend and i got the pimento egg puff, ham bun, and fontina bun. absolutely incredible. how do the eggs get so fluffy? i need to learn how to do this too! my favorite was by far the ham bun, followed by the pimento egg puff. the fontina bun was also fantastic but i thought the others were more flavorful and less "one tone." yum! my boyfriend got an iced latte, which he said was good and tasty. i felt like the prices were a bit steep for what it is, but just about everything is crazy expensive now... can't wait to come back and try the mushroom egg puff and other pastries they had on display. i remember seeing an egg tart of some sort and was like, this is what i NEED to get next time! i loved the interior as well, thought everything was so cute. the person working at the cashier was also very helpful. it was super busy (as i'm sure it is every morning... they're only open for a short amount of time thurs-sun) so ordering seemed a little bit rushed with the long line behind us. the paintings with egg yolks photoshopped in were so fun to look at. will be back! read more

Delicious egg sandwiches and tasty snacks. I had the bacon bun and it was very good. Bacon Bun- delicious, the egg very fluffy and cheese was rich. Oatmeal Chocolate chip cookie- sweet, rich, buttery and bendy, stretchy almost. Sticky bun- sweet and dense, not traditionally cakey. Good but not my favorite. They just opened up so they are working out some of the kinks. A very high quality experience and an extremely nice staff. To those downgrading them solely due to price, I'm not sure why. This is a higher quality offering than a street cart, the same way that Shake Shack or 5 Guys are higher quality (and more $$$) than McDonalds. Maybe a buck or two less might win some people over, especially while they are new and work out the kinks. read more

Great little spot. The line was long when I got in but moved pretty quickly. Unfortunately they did not have any donuts the day I went in at 10:30am on a Sunday. I did get a corn poblano quiche and a cold brew. The cold brew was smooth and was not acidic at all. Went to Scram twice for breakfast on my trip to Jersey City. It was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. First off, the location was super convenient to my hotel, but off the beaten path. Super cute interior. All the goodies are on display for your mouth to water. I got the bacon sandwich and cold brew the first time. My friend got the chorizo puff and cold brew and took home the coconut cake. The second day I went I got he chorizo puff, cold brew, and chocolate chip cookie. I preferred the bacon sandwich but the bread on the chorizo puff was crispy and delicious. This spot is totally "scram-tious". We stopped here on our way to Hamilton park on Sunday morning for two cold brew iced coffees, one sausage bun, one bacon bun, a cinnamon roll and a zucchini hazelnut loaf. We came around 9am as we read that there's usually a long line and sometimes they sell out. We waited only two people deep and they practiced excellent social distancing. They set up a few tables outside for people to stand and quickly enjoy their sandwiches. The egg sandwiches tasted incredibly fresh, fluffy and flavorful. And you couldn't eat the pastries standing up. We highly recommend this spot for a filling early morning breakfast run. read more

A friend of mine purchased a bunch of goodies to bring down to me during her visit and OMG so good. The Portuguese egg tart - no introduction needed as it was delicious as always. But I LOVED the passion fruit glazed donut curl thing. Sorry, so terrible at the name but it had like a donut twisty sort of shape. It was not too sweet and had the right amount of flavor. I saw a long line outside while passing by, which is what made me interested in trying this place! I came here twice - the first time I got pastries because they didn't have breakfast sandwiches that day, and the second time I got a sandwich. The pastries were amazing! I tried the cinnamon roll and the apple coffee cake (or something like that). The cinnamon roll had a sweet frosting on top which was very delicious. I did not love the breakfast sandwich as much. They had two vegetarian options, the Mushroom and something with pepper jam. I got the Mushroom, and I did not quite know what to expect because I was not familiar with the word used to describe the bread on the menu. It also had gruyere cheese, which I was not sure if I had tried before. It turned out that the bread was pretty similar to a popover! The inside of the bread was nice and squishy but the outside was kind of dry. I ended up not being a huge fan of the mushroom/egg/cheese in the middle. Scram has some of the best breakfast sandwiches in Jersey City! They only sell them on Friday and Saturday mornings, so they are a great weekend treat. I got sandwich with ham, gruyere, egg, and pineapple jam. The pineapple jam was such a unique add-on and absolutely delicious! Not sure if the bun was homemade but it was soft and fluffy and perfect for a sandwich. A bit pricey at $9, but again, this is a weekend treat! Also had the gingerbread crueller which is probably a seasonal special. Basically a cinnamon sugar crueller that was super fresh and tasty. Chai was good as well. The line was long but moved quickly. By far one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. They only have egg sandwiches Friday and Saturday so definitely expect to wait in line. They start serving those at 9am and I got there at 908 and waited ~25-30 min before ordering. Well worth the wait for a cold brew and bacon bun! Bacon bun was on a brioche roll with scrambled eggs, onions, bacon, cheddar and ketchup. Can't wait to try more egg sammys and pastries. Fantastic addition to the JC breakfast scene. read more

My husband and I stop by literally every weekend to grab a bun (I prefer the ham, he likes the sausage) and some sweet treats. You know this spot is good because there is ALWAYS a line down the street. The buns are so fluffy and fresh, they just can't be beat. Tried the egg sandwich when they first opened before covid. It's good as a first timer but the price is steep! I really cannot justify paying $10 for a breakfast sandwich that costs more than Manhattan prices..... and upon reading their story coming from South Carolina is like whaaat? Did people down there really paid this price?! (obviously not) so why up charge here! I want to support local business but come on $10 breakfast sandwich that is mostly eggs and a slice of meat inside is too expensive. I could easily make this at home but when it's nearby I would have gladly been a regular customer. Over the course of covid, their hours have been irregular considering a place for coffee, pastry, bread, sandwiches that should be open daily serving their full menu except they are only open Wed-Sun and sandwiches are only offered on Friday and Saturdays. Oh and the line is ridiculously long on Fri/Sat. because of these sandwiches. If they're sold out, they're sold out, better off next time to come early but who wants to make an effort to eat this sandwich. The hours, pricing, and inventory really gets me. Received a recommendation for Scram from some people I met out the night before. I was in town for work and took their "get their early, the line will be out the door" to heart. I was the first person there when they opened. Coffee was delicious. Egg sandwich and donut were perfect. Cute inside. Great little neighborhood spot. What a welcomed new addition to the JC dining scene. These folks had a tough shake opening literally the weekend quarantine had started so it took a while for us to try. They are doing take out orders that must be done online 24 hours ahead of time. Even though some hoops to go through to order I will say it was well worth it ! Gourmet is the first word that comes to mind when describing these breakfast sandwiches. Me and the wife split the ham bum and bacon bum and also got a cinnamon roll. Solid coffee, breakfast pastries, and egg sandwiches. Doughnuts have an interesting, almost mochi texture. I enjoyed both their drip coffee and espresso drinks. More comfortable seating would be nice. I could see enjoying a more leisurely breakfast if they had some comfy chairs and couches. I have no idea how this place is still in business. I have gone 5 times to try the hyped up breakfast sandwiches and five times I have been given some lame excuse as to why they don't have any. So, first they only have sandwiches on Friday and Saturday so you have to plan ahead and make sure you are in the mood for a sandwich on those days only. Second, their posted hours are until 2pm and I went at 1pm on a Friday and guess what... no sandwiches. I was told to come back at 9am lol. I was looking forward to trying this place as it is 1 block from my house and I would have been a daily customer but they can't seem to get their s%#t together. Scram recently opened here in JC. They're somehow associated with the Scram food trucks based out of South Carolina that also serve breakfast sandwiches. I had a sausage sandwich and the food itself was excellent. The wait, however, was painfully slow, something like 30 mins for a sandwich. They had a line today , but I can't see people waiting this long once the initial buzz of the opening wears off. Work-from-home folks because of the Coronavirus may also be helping temporarily. You can see their whole back of house process in the cafe. They individually cook the eggs and some of the meats for each order. I get that the eggs are tasty because of that but they may try to cut out time elsewhere. I noticed, for example, that their bread was not pre-cut. That could save a few seconds per order because the bread person also makes the eggs. On the front of house there is a person that brings the order tickets (i.e. walks) to the back of house. Given how slow they are they could benefit from a monitor that beams that information to them. All in all, good food but the wait time puts a huge barrier to me coming back. You walk in to what looks like a cafe and expect a 5 min wait, when in reality you could have gone to a diner and been out sooner. I can't imagine the original food truck concept was similarly slow, maybe they can take some lessons there and translate to this fixed location. read more

Sandwich was tasty. Wait was fine. Prices are comical. $9.63 for a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll? That's some kind of reverse carpetbagging. It's about 285% more expensive than the same sandwich from a cart in NYC ($2.50). The sandwich is good, but not 285% better than a regular sandwich from any cart around. I would pay $5, maybe $6, for the sandwich two or three times a week (x3 with my kids). But at $9 a pop? No thanks. I can't imagine they last long at these price points.
