This place is great for a concert! Intimate space with enough room to move around. Great selection at the bar and water is cold, self-service, and complimentary. Crowd is a mix of great people. Bar staff is friendly. They have some food stuffs, but we haven't tried. Beer on tap is our go-to and the list of options never disappoints. We came for a musical event, as many do. We ordered chips and queso two hours ago. We have not received the chips and queso, not any updates on said chips and queso. The event is nearly over and we ordered nearly an hour before it started. Can't even review the food because we never got it. I recommend eating beforehand if you can't see your favorite band elsewhere. read more

While on our annual girls trip, we went to Scout Bar to see the Spazmatics, who we used to see back in college. They checked our tickets and getting in was a breeze. We arrived about 15 minutes before the show began and the bar was already packed. My first drink was super watered down, but I went to the bar closest to the stage for my next drink and that bartender was much better. She was also super sweet and personable. I kept going to her for the rest of the night. We didn't reserve a table for the show, but in the end I'm glad because we danced basically the entire time the band was on stage. They did three sets and it was a lot of fun. Never had to wait in line for the women's bathroom either! My tab wasn't bad after 4 drinks. The bar is in a strip center so it kind of catches you off guard and parking is awkward, but I'd definitely go back if there was another good concert. read more

Been here for a ton of shows. Great venue. Went to see mc chris tonight. Brought my sons, as it was an all ages show. There are multiple no smoking signs all over the place. I vape and have asked before if vaping is allowed indoors. I was always told it was not and was pointed toward the patio. This particular night, a woman was intentionally blowing her vape in my children's faces if we blocked her view of the stage and when I asked her to stop she just smirked. So we moved. When we were leaving I informed the bartender and the doorman of what happened and they asked if that's why we were leaving. I told them no, we planned to leave at this point beforehand. I pointed out the people that were blowing smoke in my children's faces and left. The doorman ran after me into the parking lot and told me that there's no law against vaping inside and that my children were too close to the stage so it was our fault. Thanks. read more

We decided to visit Scout Bar for the Boys Don't Cry Concert. Our bartender was on point with our drinks and of course Boy's Don't Cry were the best as usual. I would have given Scout Bar five stars but the DJ had the volume to low after the concert ended which hindered us from wanting to stay longer. But overall it was a great night. read more

Great bar for concerts! I have now seen 2 bands there- totally different music styles. Both performances were awesome! Got tickets on line- found a non reserved seat by the bar and had great service from the bar staff! Plenty of great beers on tap with bar pizza. We went here to see a friend play in the band. (Spicollies- MTV 90s genre and they are great). The parking is not good. Hard to find a decent place to park and looks a little shady late at night. The facility is okay.......... staff was wearing masks and were not rude but not overly welcoming either. It's a large space with lots of games, pool tables, lots of seating with tables and a small dance floor. The sound is not great for a live band as it gave decent amount of feedback and somewhat sharp. Restrooms were iffy to be honest. Drinks were okay......... not overly priced and nothing special. They do serve food but we would not eat here......... it looked clean but honestly......... u ever been to a bar and it just all kinda feels like sticky and dark and ur glad it's dark because ur not too confident it's really that clean? That's the feel my wife and I both got about this place. I didn't see anybody eating anything there at all so not sure on that. I doubt we go back. read more

Husband and I went for Emo night totally loved it . New experience crowd was super sweet and amazing. Drinks were very tasteful.

I've been here for two Reggae concerts. Had a good time at both. The only thing I didn't like was the silly wristbands they make you wear to enter. I hope they have more cool concerts in the future. read more

Scout Bar was a fun nod to some live music dive bar in SF. I had an amazingly fun time here watching the charismatic Spazmatics ($10 for the 80s cover band here every second Friday of the month.) I can't speak for this place as a bar; I didn't order anything while here. As a music venue, it was a fun, small, intimate place to watch a show. Certainly the peak of the show was between 10-12; after that people started to dwindle away with each set break. There were a few weirdos here, as with any concert. Some had to be escorted out. However, the rest of the attendance was having fun, singing and dancing along with the band. And that's what I like--an unabashed group that is enjoying the evening together. There were three stalls in the women's bathroom; the wait didn't seem too long in the set breaks. Also, it was kept relatively clean for what I was expecting at a dive bar. All-in-all, this Scout Bar gets almost an Eagle Scouting commendation from me, particularly with special badges for Small Live Music Venue and Interior Decor (not quite the Fillmore, but who can beat them?) read more

My girlfriends and I went to see the Spazmatics last night here at the Scout Bar. Four ladies with a bar tab of $300 we had at least 8 shots a person, and 6 mixed drinks. SCOUTS BAR WATERS DOWN THEIR LIQUOR A LOT!!!!! Four women left extremely pissed because none of us were even buzzed!!!!!!!! We didn't need our designated driver after spending $300. It used to be a GREAT place but now it's run by thieves!! Don't go here unless you want to waste money on water that has an alcoholic taste without the alcohol! So we flew to Houston to scout bar for stabbing westward. I wish we had a Place like Scout Bar in Orlando. The closest thing we have is the Haven. The Haven is pretty cool but there's a different feel at Scout. The drinks were fairly priced. The crowd is a little different. There's definitely a much stronger punk scene in Houston than Orlando.. Well worth the cash and hassle of flying to get out here and see it. If there's ever another show we want to see at scout we'll be back. read more

I came here to enjoy Natalia Lafourcade's concert. I live in the Houston area so it took me an hour to get here. I arrived at 6:58pm, found a parking spot, and doors were opened exactly at 7pm as they had said. First I placed my self in the line (which wasn't long at 7:14pm) the guy asked me if I was legal to drink and to show an ID, I said no I'm 20, so he marked my hands. Then a photographer covering the event took pictures of everyone. After that another guy from SB was giving out drinking wristbands and checking tickets. After that I stepped inside, showed my ticket to the box office lady, she marked my ticket and gave me a VIP wrist band and told me to be exactly at 8pm to meet my artist and to not be late. I was in already. Guess what? No one checked my purse or any general security check venues usually do at the entrance. I was a little worried, you never know! But didn't complain I'm not sure what their protocols are. So as I entered there was a bar, tables, patio somewhere in the left, restrooms in the middle left side, and stage on far right (small stage) my favorite songs happened to be played as everyone waited for the concert to start: lovely. Meet and greet however was very unorganized. I love my artist but we waited an hour after being at the patio at 8pm. Not sure who to blame on this lack of organization though! But the SB staff was being nice and cooperative. I'll be back soon for another concert that has been booked here. read more

It was a dark and stormy night. All along the way from downtown Houston, we ignored the signs about tornado warning, one after another, and we braved the heavy rain and lightning. (Actually, by "we" I really just meant fellow yelper Michelle M since she was the one driving, and I just sat on the side watching the lightning =P) We had our hearts set on watching the Spazmatics, and by golly we were gonna get there. Sure enough, we got there just in time to watch them perform. $10 cover for about three hours of live 80's music - not a bad way to spend a Friday night (better without the storm of course). The Spazmatics totally rocked it. It was super duper fun watching them perform even though I did not know every song they played. Everyone on the band took their turns charming the crowd. I always appreciate it when bands take some time to interact with the crowds instead of just playing one song after another. The crowd definitely added to the experience as well. There were no one particularly obnoxious, and they played along with all the jokes and laughed at the appropriate times. It was just a fun time. It was a small venue with an intimate feel to it. The guitars and other decorations on the wall definitely added to the feel. The stage and the bar are opposite from each other in two ends of the room, so there was still plenty of space in between for people to jam without clashing against the drinking crowd. There were also booths and chairs along the wall for those that wanted a more chill experience to just sit back and watch. The lighting and sound quality were alright - nothing spectacular but good enough for the small venue performance. I only got a sweet tea vodka from the bar. It tasted pretty watered down, which was actually okay at the time because I was just flat out thirsty. Overall this was a solid place for intimate concerts, and I would check it out again for the right act. read more

I was here recently to see Slaves perform and had the pleasure of hearing 3 other groups as well. There's two bar areas, one by the TV's/patio and another by the stage. I had a VIP package so I got in two hours early which let me get right in front of the stage and it was awesome. The instrumentals are pretty loud in comparison to the vocals, but that's awesome in it's own right. The whole staff was super nice and helpful as well. Good vibes throughout the entire bar, I'd love to come back here again. read more

Dirty. And I didn't even go to the bathroom. I mean, it's dive bar to the max. Really the only thing going for this place is that it always has live bands. I can tolerate it for The Spazmatics, but it's a far cry from the venue I'm used to seeing them at.... complete opposites. [Go look up Cedar Street in Austin.] What in the world is up with 'The Green Room'? Like shady lives there. Some stranger grabbed my arm, I pretended like I didn't know was going on. That is not how to get someone's attention. Walk up, offer a hand. [Sorry for giving an etiquette lesson, I can't help it. I'm old.] Prices are eh... kind of high for a dive bar, but I get it. I kind of want to drink before hand though because going back and forth from the bar to standing space for a band is ridiculous. Oh I have to tell you about the drunk-a$$ cougar who pushed me out of the front row. When I was younger, my first reaction to getting pushed was to fight/push back. The Scout Bar has an excellent sound system. But then that makes sense, the owner, Thomas, is the keyboardist/singer for The Hunger. His brother is the singer/keyboardist. The venue itself is okay. Not my favorite. It's out in the middle of nowhere. The bar is carpeted. Gross! Also, there are several cheesy bars surrounding it. When I left early on New Years day, there were several groups of people helping their friends whose stomachs were rejecting all of the food and liquor they'd been filled with. Lots of drunk, puking ladies. I went for a New Years Eve concert featuring The Hunger. It was PACKED with no room to breathe clean air. It actually made me appreciate the smoking ban in Houston. You can breathe and your clothes, hair, and purse don't need to be fumigated the next day. There are two bars. One is in the venue itself. It's on a raised platform, so the vantage point of the stage is great. However, if you are just trying to get a drink from the bar, you have to wind your way through a large crowd of people just watching the show. The other bar is in the Green Room, the dance club. The Green Room is...interesting. There are two stripper poles (just in case the mood or alcohol hits you) at either side of the dance floor. Hmm. The DJ who spins here is a character. He will occasionally hop onto the dance floor and shake his stuff. Oh, a note on the bathrooms. There are two sets: one in the anteroom to the dance club and one by the exit to the courtyard with all of the puking ladies. The one by the exit has roughly five stalls and moves quickly most of the time. There was one instance when three ladies exited a stall (not the handicapped one) to the chagrin of all six of us waiting in line. read more

I rarely enjoy bars/clubs as much as I enjoy Scout Bar. The Texas Buzz on Sunday nights are fun and free to get in with 5 dollar pitchers of Shiner, but the BEST night to go to Scout is on Thursday nights. "Big-Ass Beer Night" is on Thursday nights at Scout and the name delivers EXACTLY what it promises. For only 6 dollars you get your choice of any draft beer in a huge 30 oz glass. Not bad, but here's the kicker: You get to keep the glass and refills are only 2 bucks. If you bring the glass on another Thursday night, 2 bucks. You cannot beat that. To top everything off, Thursday nights showcases a local band called Obsolete August. 2 dudes, one acoustic and one bass. One hell of a good show. They'll play anything they can think of, not to mention the eye candy for both genders they bring in. It truly is one of the best things to do on a Thursday night in Harris County. Also every once in a while, Scout hosts a nationally recognized artist to come play for a very small crowd. Its a much more intimiate show when they play for about 100 people rather than a filled arena. I've seen Red, Evans Blue, and Seether just to name a few, and this was by far the best venue to watch a good rock band perform. The sound system is amazing, yet not overpowering. Horrible place all around! The bouncers were extremely rude and made derogatory comments. Very unprofessional, even for a townie dive bar. The inside was extremely disgusting and when you reached the green room, or whatever it's called, there was a very unsanitary-looking woman with NO panties just grinding away on the stripper pole! Plus the service was ridiculously slow even though the place was NOT busy. I would recommend driving into town than staying in the suburbs for this disappointment if you want to enjoy similar bands AND a decent establishment... or you can just put your favorite washed-up-and/or-failed-90's-alt-rock band on blast at home after a trip to the liquor store. I'll be keeping to my regular spots. I honestly walked away with nothing positive to say. I wish I could give it 0 stars but Yelp doesn't allow that. read more

Also, Scout is practically across the street from my apartment which is quite convenient. I also went once on a Sunday night to check out the Texas Buzz (which is free and hosted by 94.5) but it's not really my kind of music. It was kind of fun though (if you're into that sort of thing), being able to check out several new bands. The bar itself is just OK and drinks are super expensive. You might as well have a few drinks before any show you want to attend somewhere else and then head over to Scout just in time for the band to go on. Also a lot of the people who regularly hang out at Scout are a little on the lame side. I've had a drink spilled on me with not so much as an apology twice now and I can't even count the number of times that I've been bumped into or stepped on. I did get a flyer on my car last year that Vanilla Ice was playing at Scout and I will always regret missing that show. Ha! read more

Best Rock Club in Houston Okay, now that the obvious is out of the way, let's delve into the why. First off, Scout Bar has the strictest booking practices of any club in town. Finally, a club that has the concept "if you suck you cannot play here". No matter the genre, be it metal to emo to punk to industrial, the bands will be good and talented. Add to that the addition of national touring acts as disparate as Tone Loc to Billy Bob Thornton to Eve 6. Unlike many other clubs in town, Scout maintains a promotion/advertising budget which means that they always have a crowd. They don't rely on their bands to supply their clientele, they approach it like a business should and target their own audience and then cater to their needs. A winning formula. Their bartenders are very knowledgeable and can make just about any drink you request. The door guys are strict but not asses - no Idiot Bouncer Syndrome here. Pretty much the entire staff and crew of the place are very rock'n'roll. Scout Bar is the model that other clubs in Houston should follow. They keep a clean place with things like guitars on the wall and art without losing cred or becoming pretentious. Plenty of seating and standing room as the club is anything but cramped. read more

This is my first time here, the guy at the door is really cool but the manager is not, my friend ordered us vodka and sprite I don't drink Sprite with vodka I drink vodka and club soda and she would not exchange the drinks so really? There's like no one here and to turn away first-time customers based on a mistake? We took one sip from the drinks and I took them back and she would not replace them. Very bad customer service. I have a friend whose band plays here so I decided to go and hear them. They have definitely made some improvements over the last 2 or 3 years, so that's good and I like that they no longer allow smoking here because back in the day, they did, and it the stench was really unbearable for someone who doesn't smoke. Scout Bar some how pulls in some pretty big acts. Their venue has really improved over the years, and there is a lot of seating if you don't feel like being in the pit. They have 2 bars - one on each side of the venue. No food here, but they have some to-go menus if you'd like the bartender to order you something/order something yourself. I knocked off a star because they only have TWO stalls in the women's bathroom, which creates quite a line. need at least 4 for a venue of this size!! protip: buy your tickets at the box office before the day of show to save some dough. read more

Had a great time at Scout Bar last night. We went to see The Mullet Boyz perform.. They were amazing! The club itself is rather small, it's definately an intimate setting. As a previous reviewer said I would imagine that when big name bands play here you wouldn't even be able to move in that place. Luckily the crowd last night was medium size, but the show was still fantastic. The dance club, "The Green Room" that is off to the side seems like an afterthought. It was also mildly distracting. Best small-ish live music bar in Houston. Intimate stage, two bars, great sound system, good stage lighting, and all the recognizable names you could want to see elbow-to-elbow with 300+ other people. The long list of quality bands who've played here and left signed memorabilia speaks volumes about what a live music venue should be.
