It's our usual Happy Hour spot since it's close to work and on the way home. Our HH event usually has a pretty good number of attendees. The bar has a decent number of different beers and drinks. The service is usually good even when gratuity is included for our big group. The place is cozy and sometimes gets packed. You can sit inside or outside in their patio area. Not a bad bar, decent beer selection, nice patio, friendly bartenders, no complaints there. My complaints are to the owner/management. Your POS system is set to charge all credit cards 3% per transaction. This is not legal in Texas. You can offer a cash discount, but don't steal from me to pad your bottom line. I rarely see this practice but when I do I report it, even though federal law probably won't enforce it, but for a bar that is all about Texas, they are violating Texas law and Texans rights. They know good and well what they are doing is crappy, but that most people won't notice or just shrug it off and that ultimately nothing will come of it. This is not common. Spec's famously offers a cash or debit discount, but they are more respectful than to just take 3% from you. read more

This place isn't safe. First time I went there was a fight where a bunch of older men were beating up two young men, and they were just yelling for help. The drinks were expensive and the music was overly loud as well, not good. read more

I was searching for a more upscale bar with better beers than the normal swill that some of the more divey places in La Porte have and found this place and it definitely has the better brews but the prices are sky high. Fantastic selection, you can see on Untappd how the selection changes but in the end, 3 beers, one of them a 10 oz came up to $22. No bueno. The atmosphere was very nice. Upscale, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, music was ever changing and looks like they have a killer set up as a small live music venue, but I don't think I can swing the prices. I just have to get used to drinking Karbach at a honky tonk down the road because I will be broke. Solid 4 stars on appearance and staff, 2.5 on prices. read more

This place is pretty cool being that its close to where I work and not too far from home. It's located near the end of Center Street right before you reach the Fairmont intersection. It's at the north tip of a small strip mall area. They have an excellent selection of beers from crafts, on tap and your regular imported and classics but you are not just limited to beer. They have a full bar and are able to mix up what ever concoction you may be in the mood for. The place is small inside so it may get crowded on a cold night. Most of the crowd consists of Pasadena and Deer park locals and nearby plant workers. The crowd is mature, chill and laid back. I visited on a Thursday night with a large group of coworkers. We couldn't help but try the special Saint Arnold's selection. Delicious beer. They also serve a small selection of nibbles if you get hungry but on that particular night they were pretty much out of everything so we ordered an antipasto tray. It did the job and was enough for sharing with our group. This night there was no DJ or live band but there was a juke box and a local vendor selling craft items, clothing and other Nick nacks for the home. I saw something I really liked but totally forgot to walk with cash. Luckily there is an ATM in house. There was a corner for video game playing and a Christmas tree made out of beer kegs. There are two women's bathroom and believe it or not they were pretty clean that night and the place was busy. There is the option of outdoor seating but it is open air so not the best spot to be in on a day with bad weather. Definitely a place I would return to for an after work cocktail or weekend stop for cold beer. You should try it. read more

This is. . . PASADENA? THE Pasa-get-down-dena?! If you say so. . . We had a magnificent time here and can't wait to go back! We came yesterday, a Wednesday, about a month after the grand opening. It was a little crowded; There is nothing even remotely similar to this type of joint nearby. I think they picked a great location in that respect. We came in to try their impressive beer menu, which includes several beers above 9% alcohol content and 5 nitro kegs. BF ordered the Southern Teir 2x Milk Stout and I ordered the Karbach Weisse Versa. "Sancho" was bartending and poured our beers. BF's choice was one of the nitro kegs, which may be why his snifter took a little longer to pour, and came out super cold. They were excellent! I liked BF's better than mine, but they were both wonderful. Those two beers were only FIVE DOLLARS EACH. Whaaaa, I've paid more than that for a crappy domestic beer at other bars. We were really blown away at that price for specialty craft beer! We took our treasures out to the patio where it was a lot less crowded. Unfortunately, it was kind of chilly and there was a group of 6-7 barely drinking age kids swilling miller lites and loudly announcing their presence. There was a couple sitting in the corner we struck up a conversation with that was pretty knowledgeable about this place. They have already come here several times. They told us a ton of great tips for our next visit: 1) Ask for the "Beernerd" next time (Not to be confused with the beer nurds at the Flying Saucer) He maintains the beer menu and knows all about what they carry. 2) He will hand you samples if you want to try before you buy, and if you're looking for something that isn't there he will suggest something that he thinks you will like instead. 3)The servers, while friendly and quick, don't know much at all about the beer selection or helping you make your choice. We were joking about wishing the Beernerd would teach a weekly course on the ever changing menu to the staff, and be open to the public as well, of course! 4)Once a keg is killed, they replace it with a different kind so don't get too attached to anything. I'm hoping to make this a regular hangout spot and I would love to see this place thrive! But we need to push out the cretins, maybe up the charge to $20 for any bottle labled "lite"? read more

I really love going to The Republic House! It is really nice to know we have a decent bar and we don't have to go all the way to mid town anymore! I went out recently with a group of friends and everyone else was super friendly! We met like 4 new people there and had a great time blending our groups together. Impressive beer menu. Seating inside is limited and can get crowded on certain nights, but we usually opt for the patio anyway which is nice on a cool evening. I love to blow all my money on the jukebox and be DJ 'til the band starts playing outside. My husband and I come here because it's right down the road (from Deer Park). Place has only been open for a few days. I've already been 3 times...nothing but great things to say about the place. It's clean, well layed out, very nice real wood table and bar tops. The staff is knowledgeable, polite, professional, and accommodating in every sense of the word. The owner is just hands on enough to ensure that things are off to a good start...but he also has an amazing staff that he lets shine. They have 51 draft beers very reasonably priced, and another 20 or so great bottle and can offerings. Really no huge negatives...If I could change anything just for my own personal preferences...I'd have a few Ballast Point beers available. I'm just a huge fan of BP...but i get their whole theme is a Texas bar, and their are plenty of great options. As of yet their is no printed craft cocktails, but Trey has and I'm sure several other can whip up some really cool stuff. He made me an Angel's Envy cocktail that was delicios...knocking out a whiskey cocktail using Aperol and doing in well shows the signs of plenty cool stuff to come. Lots of cool cordials and bitters for skilled bartenders to work with. Besides the beer, their is a very heavy Texas representation in the liquor and wine selection. I like to see this in any business, bars included. Supposed to have food available soon...haven't really heard too much about what all will be offered...but all signs point to it being amazing! Just another interesting touch...All sodas out of the gun are top shelf. Maine Root Ginger Beer, Dublin Dr. Pepper, Mexican Coke. Food isn't offered yet but it is on the way. This place looks awesome in photos online. Upon arrival it looks like it has a lot of potential. It has a local dive bar feel to it but not quite the total dive bar. The mixed drinks were mediocre at best. The beer selection was terrible. I was impressed that they even had beer from local craft breweries. However, it was very limited. What made it worse was the inclusion of Karbach, and other InBev products. This place would be so much better if they stuck with a rotation of local craft breweries and trim all the commercial crap off their menu. It's doubtful that they will change their menu because they cater to the local clientele who seem to appreciate watered down tasteless beer more than anything. It's a shame because this place has amazing potential. Will not visit again unless I see something that catches my eye. read more

I live near this bar and drive by it often. It usually looks packed and all the reviews were positive. I decided to go to this bar and as I walked in I was not greeted or acknowledged by any of the employees. We sat at a table and waited for a server for approx. 20 mins. As we waited we saw other customers (of a lighter shade) walk in and we're greeted and acknowledged by the servers. I finally realized I was a few shades to dark for this place. I'm assuming they care about white, brown and black rather than green. I ended the night by going to another near by bar that knows how to treat it's customer. FYI: I am hispanic and that doesn't mean I'm "ghetto". I was actually dressed casual the day of this bad experience. I don't throw out the race card but this time I have to. I don't know for sure what it is about this place that makes me so uncomfortable. The seats are cushiony, the place is nice in an uncompelling, generic sort of way, and the bar staff is decent, but I never feel the desire to go there. Number one, they need to provide a beer menu with the names AND brief descriptions of beers that customers can hold in their hands when trying to select a drink. I'd be more inclined to go spend money there if I felt I stood a chance in hell of being able to choose a beer to my liking in a timely fashion. The problem is I can't see the glowing menu on the tv screen (guess I need glasses) and can't read all the taps from the customer side of the bar, & there are a ton of taps, which is good for variety, but bad for decision-making. The bartenders are no help with this problem. They do not respond well to a request to please recite and describe the flavor of all the beers on tap. Of course not. So y'all need a paper menu, Republic, ASAP. I'm giving it 3 stars simply for being non-smoking, a much-needed and welcome alternative to the slow grisly death by secondhand smoke inhalation that I get at almost every other bar in the area. read more

Huge beer selection and Erin was very friendly and helpful with selections and a couple of samples. Good daily specials. Get the Texas Dip, lots of meat and the bread picked up the perfect amount of jus without getting soggy. The only cons were that the food took a while and we thought that the manager and the cook could have been friendlier. They both came out several times and stood right in front of us and discussed supply orders but didn't take a second to greet us or ask how things were. I finally came back to this place since it has been nearly a year since my first visit. The beer selection is still fantastic and the bartenders and waitstaff are attentive and helpful. I couldn't make up my mind on what beer I wanted, so I had the server pick one for me. The food is actually a lot better than I was expecting. I had chicken nachos (sans jalapenos) and they were really good! They have typical bar food, but I wasn't expecting the nachos to be as good as they were. The prices are reasonable.
