In my last review, I gave Scott Walker Audio 5 Stars. In this follow-up, I downgraded my follow-up contact to 2 stars and considered seriously 1. So what has changed? My last review was based on the sales and setup of over $13k worth of equipment. From a sales perspective, I still stand by that 5, they earned it. However, one of those items purchased, a $1k CD player, sold as used for $500, I think it was a previous upgrade trade, immediately showed intermittent CD insertion/ejection issues, something I did not recognize at first since this was my 1st and only slot transport CD Player. Over the next 6 months with only about 30-40 plays, it became apparent that it was a bad unit to begin with when purchased and it finally was no longer intermittent, but broken. At this point, l pondered a few options from 1) tossing it in the trash and replacing it with new to 2) fixing it for $150 so it was better than when I in Scott Walker inventory and then trading it in for an upgraded new unit, an option which both parties would have benefit from especially with Scott Walker doubling there money and me being out the cost of repair. So I contacted Scott Walker Audio on two (2) occasions over a week's time and spoke with two people, the last being Josh, and asked to speak with Scott to discuss any options I might have from their perspective. Both times I was told the message would be passed on. A week later, still no call back from Scott or anyone else. While I acknowledge and accepted their return policy of a used unit, and my purchasing power is a the very bottom of what their typical customer who spends $30-$50K, the lack of response has been very disappointing to say the least ESPECIALLY given that Scott Walker Audio is a Rotel Authorized Dealer, the manufacture of the unit. In the future, it is unlikely that I will spend more money there. when there are so many other options to purchase new and used equipment and without a 20% restocking fee for new. read more

We first met Scott & Josh at the Florida Audio Expo 2021 when we were on the verge of buying a Takatsuki 300B amp & Blumenhofer horn speakers; intending to sell our Art Audio PX25 amp, Art Audio Conductor preamp, and Avantgarde Duo Grossos. ie. we were again getting back on the audio merry-go-round. Walked into Scott Walker in Keller on an off chance. Was having a few issues locally and wanted a new experience. From the get go you could tell this place was different. Josh has a breadth of knowledge, not only of what he sells but on high fidelity as a whole. I didn't know my budget, however knew what I wanted. Scott steered me towards Acoustic Signature and then went on to explain the differences between this brand and others. There was no hard sell, just multiple demos, both in the store and also in my home to ensure that the combination would work. They lack customer service and intelligibility to say the least. After calling them to inquire about a remote control system for my house, they never called me back, 3 months later I called and again no answer or call back. Finally I decide to troll Scott Walker on Facebook and make fun of their shitty installs and wiring behind the racks. Well... that got Scott's attention really fast. Not only did he remove my comments, he blocked me. Maybe Scott if you knew how to provide customer service and entertain the idea that ever possible sale is a happy customer, you actually might be able to grow your business. I am not a customer of Scott Walker Audio -- as of yet -- because I am still in the evaluation phase of what I expect will be a major upgrade of my audio/home theater system. Recently, I drove over 300 miles to visit Scott's store, having arranged via email to audition certain equipment combinations I was considering. My visit was ideal. He spent hours with me, offering his perspectives; at the end, he gave a summation that has been "food for thought". Subsequently, he has kept in touch with me via email -- without pressuring me to come to a decision already. I appreciate his low-key approach very much. So why am I writing this review, especially since it appears to be so premature? I have two reasons. First, Scott Walker Audio carries the best selection of high-quality audio brands of any store west of the Mississippi. I have been an audiophile for 50+ years and have shopped at many, many stores. Scott's is exceptional. Second, it became obvious to me during the first visit that he has real integrity. High-end audio equipment is expensive, and the advice provided by the dealer is an important element in making one's purchase decision. With Scott, I had the strong impression that his first priority was customer satisfaction rather than store profitability. I asked for more information on installation and was told its just a basic installation, what more information I want!!! Then instead of wait, I was being proactive, I list all items I want and I ask for certain deal and it's $100,000 of equipment! I rate Scott Walker Audio 5 stars! Why? I have been listening to classical music my entire life. For years I listened to the greatest music ever composed/performed on inexpensive Kenwood or Sony receivers played through generic bookshelf speakers sold at Best Buy type stores. My closest friend is into audio in a big way. After listening to his gear he convinced me I needed to take the plunge. But how do I do that? I didn't know how or where to buy high end gear. Well, step one was to attend the LA/OC Audio Society - "The Show" in Irvine. This is a terrific annual trade show where audiophiles can listen to all kinds of high end systems. (FYI - June 3rd - 5th 2016). I had a plan - I always have a plan! I would visit every audio dealer with a shop in SoCal, strike up a conversation, and leave my card. I would then wait to see who responded after the show. I left 5 of my business cards but only one dealer called me back - that was Scott Walker. (1 Star) We talked, I visited his studio, we agreed on a budget (which he did NOT exceed - (#2 star), he arranged a meeting to let me listen to his suggested systems, I liked one setup, and then the fun began! A few days later Scott came to my home, which is nearly an hour drive from his shop on a good day, with a truck filled with the demo equipment I chose. Hours later, a very tired Scott, told me to sit down and listen. WOW! I never heard familiar recordings sound so great. He spent another hour fine tuning my new system. (Star #3) A few weeks later he called me to see if I was happy with the system. There is NO substitute for listening to new gear in your own home. He ordered new equipment to replace the demos only after I had plenty of time to make up my mind. (Star #4) That was 2 years ago. I have upgraded various components at least three times since then - and Scott has been my ONLY audio vendor for all the upgrades. OK, I know I'm hooked, but I have never enjoyed listening to music as much or as often before I splurged on a high end system. I purchased a Rogue Sphinx v.2 at SWA about two years ago, and have recently reacquainted myself as I'm considering an upgrade. I am by no means a high-rolling audiophile, but a mid-fi guy. Scott and his team (Josh for example) have been extremely patient with my questions and offered excellent advice based on my budget. Obviously, all businesses want to make as significant a sale as possible, especially given online places with lower overhead. SWA has realized that cultivating the customer relationship is important, even for a small time guy like me. By contrast, I went to Ahead Stereo in LA recently and was treated with borderline disdain. It really soured me. In short, SWA knows there is a high probability customers will move up the audio food chain over time, and that someone spending $1500-3k at age 35 will probably come back as they age and their disposable income increases. It is a really a 20-30 year relationship. In an age where many people purchase online, this customer philosophy is important. And let me say this: NEVER buy gear you can't demo. A lot of folks buy audio online without hearing it. This problematic in that even a generous return policy involves shipping a heavy item back and a restock fee. You are out 200-500$ at that point. I'd rather go to a place that makes appropriate recommendations and helpful suggestions based on budget and needs. Get what you can afford, but if you have to stretch it a bit to get higher quality, it will save you money in the long run. GO HERE rather than the so-called audiophile section of a big box retailer. You will certainly find that at some point you want an upgrade or further advice--they won't remember you at the big-box, and the employees will have turned over multiple times. SWA will remember you, and possibly allow you to trade in gear to upgrade so long as you purchased from them. read more

I went to SWA to get a McIntosh tubes preamplifier - super nice guys and very accommodating. When I was there they said if I wanted an easy upgrade to try some some fuses and upgrades from synergistic research. Not a hard sell at all - just guys talking about what they have seen make a difference. I went back and read some reviews and asked them to order the items for me. I am generally cynical about system tweaks - but wow, in my system - they weren't kidding - made a big difference in dynamics. I'm a long time audiophile. Unfortunately over the last few years I haven't used any of my equipment. Recently I decided to fire up the old McIntosh system. When I unpacked the turntable I found the stylus was damaged. I contacted Scott walker by phone and he said he could help me but he needed to return my call. I waited for a day and finally called him. He seemed agitated that I was taking his time so he asked me to take photo's and e-mail pic's of my turntable and stylus. I was trying to get it working for Xmas holidays. I emailed pic's as asked several days before the holidays and it is now mid-January and I haven't heard from him. Had he simply said he couldn't take care of me that would have been fine but waiting on him cost me more than a couple of weeks. My son got me one in Seattle. I realize that it wasn't a major purchase but I was just trying to get this system working and was going to take it to my ranch in OK. We are building a new home in E. Washington and I'm rebuilding a vintage Airstream. Both are going to have home theater and sound through out. Just not from Scott Walker Audio. It appears that his customer service is good as long as you're spending big money. If you need something minor or help your not worth a return call. Sometimes we can get too important and our time becomes so precious. I was interested in getting advice on a high end cd/dac system around the $10,000 price range. I reviewed Mr. Walker's website and thought he might be able to help me. He suggests that customers should call ahead before coming down. I do understand this as one would not want to interrupt another customer's audition of some audio equipment. So I called during business hours to schedule an appointment two days later. The phone rang several times and I thought that I would leave a message. Mr. Walker answered and I stated why I was calling. He said in a perturbed and demanding voice "Why do you want an appointment?. I stated that I wanted to come in and see what he had. In an annoyed voice he said, "Hold on let me get off this call", and put me on a lengthy hold. When he came back on he immediately said "Listen this isn't Best Buy you can't come in here and just buy things off the shelf!" I had never been given a chance by Mr. Walker to explain what I was in the market for. I told him that it was rather presumptuous for him to make a statement like that and that I was insulted by its implications. Not that I have anything against Best Buy shoppers but he was insinuating that I was looking at a too "pricey" store. Such discriminative statement was made without any material facts to base it on. Furthermore even if I was in the wrong store there is by far more respectful and compassionate ways of redirecting a customer. When I mentioned that I was looking for a cd player, I surmised that he had the impression that I was looking for a cheap unit, as his voice and words were impatient and unhelpful. He gave no suggestions of equipment and no guidance just a prompt dismissal. When I advised him that I had a high end system and was looking for a high end unit his attitude instantly changed. Then all of Monday became available. This disgusted me. Maybe I should have told him right off the bat that I have wads of money to throw his way. Such statements are crude and should not be necessary. My father told me that one should treat everyone with respect and equally irregardless of their station in life. This advice has done me well in my chosen profession. I choose to do business with persons and businesses sharing the like kind of ethics. Mr. Walker we as customers do not just simply audition equipment but the people we do business as well. I shall decline to do business with Mr. Walker for this reason. Bought a McIntosh mc 402 amp from Scott. Was a little nervous about shipping it to Missouri. However upon receipt, the packaging was amazing, double boxed with 3" of foam between, the unit itself was bolted to a piece of plywood, it was on a pallet, secured with strapping and wrapped in plastic.
