The salesman in the Scott Felder homes in. Ew Braunfels Tx Mayfair community has a lot to be desired. We first were talking with Kevin and he was very nice but we found out he had been luring to us the whole time. My realtor and I went up to the sale office and found another salesman there whose name has slipped my mind and for good reason. There has been a mayfeast there and we went. Kevin showed us a floor plan that was just being released but want going to be available for that community. Kevin said he could try and get permission from the builder to build it there which he said he did. Then he had to get permission from the HOA to build it. He said he got it. All along we had been asking what the price was and we were told he didn't know and would have to get with the builder. Never happened. Our realtor kept getting the run around so she decided that she and I would just go up there. This salesman was very rude from the beginning. He was arguing with our realtor saying she was going to have to learn to negotiate the price. Still hadn't at that point told us the price. He was told we had our own financing. He told us we had to use their financial resource to get the pricing because they didn't know if ours was from a real company. Then after we got an approval letter from their financial people then we would be told what the price is. So we were also told there were a few incentives But at this Meeting I asked what was their incentives other than the 4.99 APR. He said there were no incentives at all. And if there were any that they would be losing money. My realtor told him that I was her clients wife and that we were putting $250,000 down on the home and his eyes looked like a deer in the headlights. But still disrespectful me and my realtor. Needless to say we walked out and as soon as the door shut I told my realtor under no circumstances was I ever going to build a house with Scott Felder for as long as I lived. Now that is my experience with Scott Felder and I stand by what I have just said. read more

like many others say, i would rate them 0 stars if i could. terrible company. and unfortunately i was a victim of scott felder and bought one of their homes. SUPER sketchy sellers... they straight up lie to your face just to get you to buy their houses. they'll say anything to get you to change your mind if you think about backing out, too. which happened to me, twice. long story: they convinced me that my second story was never intended to be finished and that it was supposed to be a "Texas Basement"... ?????? this was really suspicious to me, and they still wanted me to pay listing price for the home, wouldnt negotiate with me at all on the price, despite the square footage being wrongly misrepresented by about 500sq ft on the for sale flier for the home. they waited until after i had already put a deposit down on the home to EMAIL me and say "oh by the way, the upstairs was never meant to be finished, and its actually going to be 1800sq ft. not 2250." so when i tried to back out.. twice.. they insisted that they would have their company that they partner with come out and finish it 'at cost' and insisted it would only cost me around $13k to finish and that it would ultimately add so much value to the house... 3 years later im sure you can guess, it's still not finished, i never heard back from them after closing. scott felder insisted its not their problem that the company that was supposed to help me, ended up not helping after all. i realized that i overpaid on the house by almost 6 figures because of this whole "texas basement" situation. and instead of it costing around $13k to finish the upstairs like they said, its more like around 30k, more than double what they claimed. so not only can i not afford to finish the upstairs, if i try to sell my house now... i will lose my entire down payment. i also recently lost my primary job, so i can no longer afford my home. and i will ultimately have to take a loss on it once i eventually am able to sell it (which is impossible right now, you could throw a rock in my neighborhood and hit a house that's for sale. everyone wants OUT). when closing day came, my shower glass was still not installed, they had installed the wrong glass prior to that, which i would have had to duck in order to enter my shower... and i'm only 5'3. ???? they didn't caulk ANYTHING, there was so much missing caulk i ended up doing a lot of it myself later on when i realized certain parts of the house had caulk missing entirely, my shower and kitchen specifically, the floor in my bathroom, but also the spigots on the outside of my home... which i didn't realize until i checked them prior to this winter freeze we're about to have... which prompted me to make this long-delayed review. all the cabinets in my house the paint was cracked and heat damaged... they had to come in and re-paint them ALL. now they're miscolored and look terrible... and i will likely be redoing those myself as well... long story short: scott felder homes are MONEY PITS. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY A SCOTT FELDER HOME. biggest financial regret of my life. i'm kicking myself everyday i come home wishing i backed out like my gut was telling me to. unfortunately i went into this experience completely blind, by myself, and the silver lining of it is i learned exactly what NOT to do next time if i ever have the pleasure of buying a house again. read more

They should receive zero stars. They don't respond to warranty tickets. They push the warranty work way past the end of the warranty time. This is the second major water leak with the pipes in the walls, I reported it and made a dozen calls. After months of trying to get them to fix the issues I sent in a ticket stating I would be hiring a lawyer to hold them accountable, they finally came to the house and cut through the walls and found the leak. That was over a week ago and still have not heard when they will fix the leaks. I issued a ticket last year to repair all the broken tile that just started snapping. My wife and have purchased two Scott Felder homes. However, the great company built by its namesake is NOT the same company today. It has not been since 2014. Disregard the years of awards listed since 2014. It takes years for the voting of this type to catch up with reality. The two homes we had that were built when Scott Felder owned it were good homes. We tried not once, but twice, with SIGNED contracts each time and earnest money deposited, to build another Scott Felder home,. That would be our third Scott Felder home. The first two were their higher priced and largest homes. We contracted for their highest priced home, the Montana. Both times they raised the price AFTER everything was signed. We HAD a contract! I know they counted on us to cave since we invested countless hours in the planning. We did not cave. And we had to chase down the refund of our earnest money on a signed contract. We had grounds to sue them for breach of contract, but being pragmatists, we knew they had a stable of lawyers ready to deny and delay any settlement for years. Therefore, we walked away and will NEVER do business with them again. Never. Their loss. read more

Scott Felder Homes--Cypress Forest 14 September 2020 I can't offer an opinion about the other communities around the country where Scott Felder Homes is a major builder. I can only speak to the quality and service of Scott Felder Homes in the Cypress Forest community of Kyle, Texas. My wife and I began our search for a new home builder when we sold our "Taylor Morrison" home in Round Rock, Texas on January 18, 2017. One of the first communities we evaluated was Cypress Forest. We were impressed but continued to visit and evaluate EVERY new community, and their builders, we could find along the I-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio, Texas. We always came back to Cypress Forest. One of the things that kept bringing us back to Cypress Forest was Scott Felder Homes Sales Associate Kevin Scawthorn. No matter how many times over the following months we "dropped by" his office to look at homes, he was never too busy and always dropped what he was doing to take care of us. He always greeted us like an old friend and gave us his full attention. Even though I am sure he was convinced we would never end up making a purchase, he gave us all the time we needed every time we came back to Cypress Forest. He always made us feel like he wanted us to be in the home we wanted rather than just making a sale. His professionalism and outstanding customer service made our home buying experience pleasant and memorable. We have purchased five homes in three states over the past thirty years. This home purchase was the best home buying experience we have had. Because of his consistently pleasant attitude towards our issues throughout the purchase, build and the closing, we highly recommended Sales Associate Kevin Scawthorn for the 2018 Max Award for "On-Site Sales Person of the Year". After we signed our sales agreement, Mr. Scawthorn introduced us to our Construction Superintendent Lance Caudle. Lance Caudle worked tirelessly throughout the build process to make sure any issue or question Ruby or I had was addressed as quickly as possible. It is a testament to Mr. Caudle's attention to detail, work ethic and desire to provide the best quality construction possible that no issues were identified during the final "walk-through" of our home. We closed on our Cypress Forest home on December 21, 2017 and all of our builder warranties have expired. Since we signed the contract to build almost three years ago, Lance Caudle always went above and beyond anything in my experience with any builder to provide the absolute best quality work and service possible. Absolutely not good. There is so much to share. I moved into my home in 2018. I found a bunch of items for them to complete and submitted it before my 1 year. It's 2021 and they still have not completed these items. I've gone through 7, maybe 8, property managers in the span of 3 years. Each one said they will take care of me except this last one. One prop mgr was promoted to regional, the other was made to take care of the new builds and this new one says he is taking care of the old warranty items. One person even blamed ME for not communicating with them when all I did was ask for updates! If he did call me back, he never left a voicemail. Am I expected to call back every unknown number just to see why they called? This new guy wanted to talk about 1 item, but I asked him about all my other items. He looked at me like he didn't know what I'm talking about. He said he only had one ticket and asked me if I submitted my items in the warranty portal. I told him yes I did. I did it over 2 years ago. Apparently he didn't know about it and didn't have those tickets. He tells me they can't fix my sprinkler system because it is at the fault of a lawn mower. Which would have been fine if you would have told me 2 years ago. But now everything is bigger now because I waited for you guys for 2 years. I did everything I was supposed to do, submitted my warranty items on time, but who is putting these people against their own timeline? Scott Felder used to be considered a mid to high end home builder. Now I tell everyone who asks to NEVER buy Scott Felder. Their past excellence remains in the past. Customer Service, Construction, Warranty - it's all sub-par. I'm done being patient. Youve made a reasonable buyer turn into an impatient customer. We have oil spots popping up all over our home. We noticed this after the 1st year and they came and painted over the spots 2x for them to reappear. I emailed SF 2x first with no response then sent a follow-up email and here is their response: : "I can understand the concern you are having in regard to the oil spots. We have found that over time the best remediation is to prime the spots using an oil base kills followed with paint. Unfortunately due to the tenure of your home as we have the recorded close date being 2019 that is far too many years past the one year we are unable to assist being past the one year warranty and since the recent manufacturing concerns one being paint being rather difficult to match we are unable to assist in this request. Please understand this does not pertain to a structural defect other than minor cosmetic oils in the original paint that can easily be remedied following the process stated in this email. If the paint was a known issue they should own up to it and not want me to prime my interior home and repaint it... Totally disappointed in SF. Do not buy a house from them they have no communication from sales team. One of the VP tried to move our closing date off for a month. Now they will not give a PO to have warranty work done on our house that is messed up. We have a list of repairs that have not been addressed with one month let in warranty. My review is about why I didn't buy a Scott Felder home. We wanted to build our own custom design on one of their available lots. In order to do that, we were told we had to go under contract by putting down 6% and make all the architectural decisions such the type of garage and the fireplace. However, we had no idea what the total contract amount would be for things like flooring and the many other options. We were given a 125 page document to try to figure out ourselves what things would cost. When we read that the upgrade from standard flat paint to semi-gloss paint cost $6,000 we were done. It was impossible to calculate the flooring upgrades due to a myriad of confusing options. Surprisingly, our sales representative was not able to help. All upgrade decisions had to be made at the design center after we put down $32,000 to go under contract. If I am wrong about this, I invite the company or public to comment. read more

Realtors and buyers beware! This builder is extremely unprofessional, all the way up to the VP of operations. I voiced my complaints on behalf of my client who left their office in tears. I received a 2 sentence reply from the VP! They clearly do not care about customer service what so ever. Doesn't make one feel very confident in how they build their homes. WORST experience I have ever witnessed. My clients felt like they were being sold a used car rather than a supposed " luxury semi- custom build". Unresponsive - Misleading Customer Service Visited model home in June. Salesman-Keith couldn't show any properties and asked that I come back later. Visited again in August - Made a Monday appointment with Salesman-Keith. I called first thing that morning to confirm, no answer, left a voicemail. Called twice more before the appointment and no answer. Salesman Keith didn't show. Left numerous messages across the phone tree hoping to get a live person or a returned call. Attended design center open house on September 4th to select options and ask questions. Front Desk-Nina promised a call from Sales Manager & Sales VP the next day (Thursday, Setp. 5th) Today is Wednesday, September 25th - Can not get a returned call. Have not been able to get any assistance. My concern would be this builder may be going out of business or not around much longer, otherwise, why would it be this difficult to get help spending $800,000? Brookfield and Westin Homes have been extremely responsive and helpful. read more

Scott Felder Homes builds beautiful houses in beautiful places so we thought we'd buy one, however Scott Felder made it really hard to do that. At no time did we feel like our time was valued or that our business was appreciated. I can't think of a business that's treated me more dismissively - they made the whole home buying process unnecessarily difficult. We made an offer on a house and the very next day the salesperson left town for a week without letting us know and no further response from Scott Felder. This gave us the impression that our offer was not taken seriously. There was no communication or response from them for a week - all the while we were calling them and getting the runaround. I guess they didn't like the number we offered but if that was the case it was not communicated very clearly. Everything would have been fine if someone from Scott Felder had just called us and said "we can't sell this house to you for $X" or counter-offered. So we walked away with 10 days of our lives that we can never get back and a pretty bad taste in our mouths for the way Scott Felder treats potential buyers/customers. I don't know why they made it so hard - they sell houses and we were trying to buy a house . . . oh well. If they had treated us in a more professional manner we might have considered buying one of their other houses. We ended up buying a home from one of their competitors in the same neighborhood and the deal was wrapped up in 36 hours. That's good business. read more

It was just earlier this year that I made the decision to purchase my very first home. I had long known that this would be one of the biggest events in my life - a milestone to say the least - and I really wanted to make the right decisions throughout the process. After spending several weeks scouring MLS listings, visiting re-sales and inventory homes, I had yet to find exactly what I was looking for. I then decided it was time to take a look at what new home builders were doing in the South Austin area. I met with multiple builders in a number of neighborhoods, liking much of what I saw, but had yet to find anything that really stood out in my mind. While out house-hunting one Saturday, my realtor recommended that we check out Scott Felder Homes, citing quality of construction and a good company reputation. I think the very first thing I noticed when walking into my first Scott Felder home was the visual appeal. Now I understand this is the result of very specific staging selections, and that a person's preferences in this regard vary, but there was something different about this home compared to all the others I had visited. There was no ostentatious display of luxury. There was no "contemporary" feel, soon to be supplanted by the next fad. I walked into a Scott Felder model home with an understated elegance; a perfect balance of form and function. I had found a builder that I wanted to move forward with. With that said, I quickly learned that quality and reputation are not the only things that set Scott Felder apart from the other builders I'd seen. Whereas another builder might offer options A,B,C for fixtures, flooring, countertops, etc, Scott Felder has literally hundreds of options for each and every aspect of the house, providing the customer with an experience typically only afforded to those building much more expensive custom homes. So, while I personally prefer more subtle design elements, a customer has all the options at their disposal to build a home that is truly reflective of their own style and personality. This customization, coupled with high quality construction, makes the whole process very exciting. Sales Associate Bethany McSorley was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. She listened to what I wanted to do, how I wanted to do it and, even more importantly and more impressive to me, Bethany provided a refreshing candor throughout the process. She knew that I viewed my first home as an investment, that I only wanted to put money into selections that would appraise, and cautioned me when I strayed from that plan (even though this would ultimately result in a lower sales price). When we ran into snags in the construction process - a reality in any new construction - Bethany was responsive, and an advocate on my behalf. When we ran into a fairly significant appraisal challenge, Bethany and Scott Felder Homes went completely out of their way to put the issue to rest and get me in my home. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with such a fantastic group of professionals. It is my distinct pleasure to put together this letter of recommendation for Scott Felder Homes. We set up an appointment to come in and purchase a lot to start building and as soon as we got there they told us they were no longer selling any lots. We went to Pulte instead and cannot wait to build my dream home. Their customer service is the worst. Go to Pulte if you plan on building a house in Caliterra. We have only been living in our home for almost 3 months. We still have issues that were not addressed from our initial walk thru inspection. As we are living here and waiting for all our issues to be addressed we continue to find issues throughout the home. Issues that you wouldn't normally find in a quick 4 hour walk thru when you mainly looking for small knicks. We continue to find area with excess glue and cement that we're not propped taken care of when they initial installed the tiles in the shower and in the floors. The baseboards were poorly painted and installed wrong. The door frames are crooked. We had shutters installed which made us realize that even the windows are crooked and not straight. Some are taller than the others. This is not something one could notice in a quick walk through. Our cabinets are still not fixed after 3 months living there but actually 4 months since we blue taped the issues right before closing. Some cabinets were rough and not sanded down! Our front door is not leveled and takes extra work to when closing it. Our mirrors were poor windows that the glue bled thru creating brown spots. That was finally replaced after 2 months. Point I'm making is a lot of these issues are due to jobs being done too quickly to get it done and sold. I'm really unimpressed with this builder. Not sure how they received so many awards. I wouldn't give one for our house. Maybe that's why it was on the market for almost a year. I still don't feel comfortable or as it is my home. I'm still having to look at all the blue tape all over my cabinets that are still not fixed. Sad. Very sad and very disappointed in the poor craftsmanship. read more

My husband and I purchased our Scott Felder home in 2012 and throughout the process we had issues. They lost the construction manager - TWICE - so each time we would have to walk through the specifics of our home again to orient the new person. We found little issues throughout the building process, most of which they fixed prior to the closing. They referred us to a realtor who was a real jerk but they can't really be held accountable for that.... But, after 6 years I am now ready to complain. I have nails backing out of walls in my CUSTOM HOME. Not just a few - many.....some are really unsightly and some are just little bumps. I'm beyond annoyed - this is ridiculous. I had nails back out of walls in my old home but I paid nothing (by comparison) for that house. This was an expensive home and I'm not pleased. I haven't contacted SFH, my last contact with them was very unpleasant (after looking at the window seat in my daughter's room for a LONG time I figured out why it was bothering me --they put a 3ftx4ft window in a space meant for a 6x6 picture window AND they stole space from the room to build it in- rather than push it out from the wall as is standard). When I called to complain they basically said "gotcha" and that there was nothing they would do. My advice, find another builder. These guys have let success go to their heads. read more

It can be better, that's all I can say. It was our first time building a custom home and we put high expectation during construction based on what they advertise "Carefully craft for you". Our experience some good, some bad. I am going to provide all facts that we had for me and my family. Good things Sales person was very helpful, she was able to get all the quotes on time and followed up with changes. She also helped us to get some idea of how to save money on certain design ideas. We really enjoyed spending time with her. Designer in studio. The designer that assigned to us really understand what we need. She would immediately bring out attention if color or items we pick could be none sense. She also tried to make some suggestions of items that meet our budget. Options were limited, I wish they have more options for customers. Superintendent for construction. He called me right away when potential issue may be occurred. Ex: The tile that we picked would not be completely look flat if we do 33% offset. He also tried to knock out the price for us when he got quote for our custom design stair way. Bad things: During construction: First we noticed air conditioner venting pipe contractors drink beer while performing their work. Over 10 empty beer cans were found on construction site. We did address this to SFH and never happen again. After moving into new house we found certain rooms in our house do not have sufficient cold air blow out. Air conditioner contractor had to come and do some pipe adjustments. Trash management. My wife and I had to come to construction site to clean up trash every week. We never have this problem when we build our old home. Poor contractor work quality. Certain walls, doors and front lanterns are not leveled. Paint job is no good compare to model home. Door trims were pretty much beat up with wrong nails. I decided to repaint certain area myself after we moved in. I found gas leak in attic ..... twice with my nose. A lot of time we brought to superintendent's attention when we see potential issues. He wouldn't listen and just continue to build. We were told he was too busy and don't have time when we ask to meet or address issues. This lead some minor repairs after we moved in which caused lots of dust problem to us. A floor electrical outlet was damaged during installation. Contractor came back fixing it with super glue. Caulking work was poor. Thanks to this I became a calking pro because I re-do it myself for whole house. The worse thing ever. After we closed our house the superintendent came to my new house and yell at me for not giving him good rating in survey so he couldn't get his 500 dollars bonus. After construction and warranty period: The response of repair call was really slow. We were told they had difficulty scheduling contractors due to sudden construction dement in this area. The contractors they sent over for repair was skillful and made perfect job. A lot of time my wife and I wish Scott Felder sent these people to handle construction at the first place so we don't need to deal with lots of messes. We had a long repair list but had to give up most of them because of slow respond. End up fixing them by myself We upgraded our fireplace and a trim was missing. Waited for almost 8 months for them to get one and installed. My 1 year warranty just expired and I found one venting pipe was not installed correctly during construction and tile grout in bath area start to crack. I don't even know if they will fix it or not. Suggestions: Please listen your customer more and communicate with their concerns. My old house contractor emailed me almost every 2 weeks asking me if I had any concern for construction. I understand there is no perfect house but having good communication with customer can reduce those extra work. ============================ Follow up with this review. We lost our house in a fire just over a year ago. We are on an excellent 1 acre lot in Shady Hollow and really wanted to stay on the property in a nice home. We talked to several contractors, and nobody who was in our price range (insurance $) really inspired a ton of confidence, though there were one or two who we felt we could go with if SF Homes wasn't able to build a house for us on our lot. Turns out they did, and they did a spectacular job. We ended up with the Mendocino II plan and their builder did a meticulous, thorough, quality job throughout. From the first rate materials to the first rate subcontractors and the thoughtful planning by everyone involved, we ended up with a house which exceeded the quality and beauty of the house we lost to the fire. Their estimated completion date was exactly right - within days (ours took about six months from when they broke ground.) Communication between SF Homes and us left nothing to be desired. Everything was thoroughly explained and they really handle it all, down to the smallest details. We live in a beautiful neighborhood and our neighbors have all expressed how impressed they are with the house. I expect this is the house we'll stay in until we retire to wherever. First of all they day we move in there is heavy rain and the house started leaking and they did not address for long time, they broke the wall and left it sa it is for a long time. the builder is Bradley is not nice person and he is not customer friendly. They all in the same page. the worker who ever did the job in the house is a very very poor and bad work.We ordered a extented Island, I was in a dream of getting the one whole piece, but it cam up with THREE PIECES. The cabinet is broken the next day we moved in and the cabinet doors are not straight. The bathroom tilesis not installed correctly. In another bathroom shower door is not seating correctly. They did not clean the whole house properly before closing. The kitchen faucet is not good. The lawn work in the day of move in heavy rain all the dirt they put under the sod is washed out the whole lawn is gone. We did not get the appliances we ordered in Kitchenaid, instead they gave a jenn-air cooktop,Maytag diswasher, Faber rangehood and rest of the appliances we did not get is and we don't know the ETA. I bought my Scott Felder home because of their reputation for quality. While the home has met my expectations, the SF community has not. I have lived in my home for over a year and a half now. The street is always covered in dirt and debris. Many neighbors have complained about how trashy the street looks to no avail. SF has also decided not to landscape any of the common areas and leave it up to the HOA to save up the money to do it. We have asked numerous times that they clean up the trash in the common areas and put down some mulch so it won't look so unkempt. They always have an excuse for not doing it and avoid it like a politician avoids promises after the election. It appears that the HOA will have to wait another year until all construction is complete and pay for something that the builder should have done in the beginning. I would not recommend a Scott Felder home unless you don't really care what your neighborhood looks like. Feel free to drive thru Enclave Of The Springs and see for yourself. read more

I was very disappointed in the quality of the workmanship and how I was quickly forgotten once I signed on the dotted line to purchase my house. Here's why... I purchased a house that had already been started and was told I was going to have pendant lights over my kitchen island. At the end of the build I was told they had mistaken and found the lights were not on the plan just the wiring and if I wanted to change it then I would have to deal with getting re-approved for my financing. I was also never told that both lights outside of the garage were not purchased; I was surprised when I was doing my walk through that a plate was placed on one side where the light should be and a light on the other. Trying to soften the blow the salesperson told me to buy the lights and they would have them installed by their electrician, I could drop off the lights when I picked up my keys. The salesperson was very nice when we first met, but after closing completely forgot about me...shouldn't there be a follow up of some sort? Anyhow, the day I signed I was to have met them to pick up my keys and they were nowhere to be found. My realtor and I had to hunt them down and even then they expected me to go out of my way to pick up my keys after I had already shown up when I said I would. They were the ones that told me they would meet me at their office whenever I finished after my closing. I understand unforseen events...a phone call prior to my driving there would have made matters so much better. Needless to say I bought a house and didn't have my keys until the next day. Another issue was that the new codes for some of the masonry and flashing on the roof left the look of the entrance something to be desired, they did the best they could, but I would have thought they could have come up with a better fix, it's still an eye sore to me. Also, there were some scratches on my cabinets and they told me they would get someone out to touch them up after I moved in...haven't heard a peep from the salesperson or the contractor. My expectations of this builder were really high because I had heard nothing but great reviews. Even though I really love my floorplan and location of my new home, I will not be recommending Scott Felder Homes to anyone I know. I will be doing quite the opposite...maybe it was just this subdivision...I would hope that not everyone has the same issues I have had. I have been through a build before and I understand things don't always go smoothly, but this was incomprehensible. read more

Update as of May 2014...Scott Felder has worked over the past three months to either finish or complete in a professional manner all of our incomplete or unresolved items. It should not have to get to this point but I have to give Scott Felder credit that they have finally completed to our satisfaction every item. They have built a beautiful home for us that is now a dream realized. Thanks Scott Felder for living up to the commitments you have made! read more
