I first went to Dr. Zacko after moving to the area and needing a routine clean. That appointment went well, and at check-out I scheduled another appointment to have a mouth-guard molded. It was this second appointment where I had a miserable time. The tech applying the mold turned her back while it was setting and got distracted, resulting it the mold firming up and becoming stuck in my mouth. I eventually had to pry it out myself, resulting in bleeding gums. While the Dentist may be a well-accomplished man, his hiring standards resulted in a panic-inducing day.

They hit my teeth with some crazy sonic water spray thing before the scraping and the scraping went oh-so-much-better! I also got good, non-pressury advice about some orthodontic treatment I'll need and friendly advice about wearing braces as an adult. (Yes, I'm getting braces...just call me Ugly Betty!) Every single person there is friendly and professional, and the appointments run on time - you aren't abandoned in the waiting room or in the chair for 20 minutes at a time. I'm so thrilled with this dentist and have been referring everyone. The only downside is that it will now probably take me two months to get an appointment!

The staff and hygienists are friendly and personable. Cleanings are efficient and reasonably pain-free, using an ultrasonic scaler as well as the big old hooks. I've never had to wait more than five minutes for my appointment. I haven't had a huge amount of interaction with Dr. Blicher himself-- since my routine checkups are usually pretty good, he will pop in to take a look at my teeth and x-rays, say good morning, and not linger. Although I understand he specializes in cosmetic dentistry, I've never gotten any hard sell or pressure about cosmetic procedures-- even though I could use some; the only time it's ever come up is when I've mentioned it. I always schedule my next visit on my way out, and the office staff calls me a few days in advance with a reminder.

They are super good about how they approach materials and they have unique equipment to sterilize the socket when they extract a tooth or do a root canal. The receptionist answered "Dr. Fisher's office." I could not get an immediate appointment. My wife got on the phone and managed to get squeezed on Friday, two days away. I went back with my wife and the assistant took an x-ray. After the x-ray, a strange guy comes in and tells us he is the new dentist, that Dr. Fisher has retired! (Dr. Hwang) Neither my wife nor I had received any correspondance from the office telling us this. He told my wife that she needed a crown and gum work for $3,000.00. The visit cost us $255.00 They did not plan to give us any credit if the work was done. We thought about letting him do it but we were suspicioius. We did not recognize any of the staff there and were upset by this bait and switch tactic. They never told us beforehand that Fisher had retired. The same day my wife managed to go see a prostadontist, Dr. Obeid in Chevy Chase, MD who is very skilled. He has a very modern office with state of the art equipment. He told my wife that she just needed on onlay....no gum surgery. He would charge $3000 and credit us for the visit and the x-ray. It was possible that the cavity would be more extensive and she could lose the tooth. But that is not what happened. Obeid successfully spared her tooth and did the onlay! It is far better to do an onlay as opposed to removing most of the tooth for a crown. I think this review speaks for itself. It appeared to us that all of Dr. Fisher's staff were no longer there.

This is the fourth dentist I have gone to in the past two years, for various reasons. The hygienist, Yegi, was thorough and gentle. No scraping, no picks, no bleeding - just warn gentle water. Dr. Lebonitte reviewed my x-rays, my medical history and my medications before beginning his exam. He noted the health of my gums and my bone structure. Because I was concerned about loss of enamel on my front teeth, he suggested ways to strengthen them. I concurred with his suggestions. His office manager Kelsey gave me estimates for the work as well as the expected share of the bill for the insurance company and for me. So fast and efficient and so polite. I'm so glad I found Dr. Lebonitte and his staff!

But that's the kind of sheisty accounting practices that make me wonder whether they're encouraging unnecessary treatments just to make a buck. I won't be going back.

Picking one closest to us (Brambleton), we switched to Bloo Dental in the Brambleton Town Center. Our visit was a 6-month regular checkup/cleaning, and the first impression was very good....pleasant atmosphere, and the Dentist even came out to greet us, which was nice. After our cleanings, I asked if any money was due (I knew I'd need to pay out of pocket for flouride), and they said it would be $78, which was $38 for one of us and $40 for me.....no problem....I paid it; but once I got home and looked at the statement, the statement and the line item for flouride said $30 (for one of us...didn't get the statement for myself). I called the Dental office and asked why I was charged $38 when the statement shows $30, and they said "oh, well when something isn't covered by insurance, we default to the 'office charge' (whatever that means??!)". Then I was told that in the future I would need to have each of us call individually (since we're all over 18) to make/handle our own appointments.....I said that no other dentist has required this, and asked "what if I call in and say I'm one of my sons?".....I guess that hit a nerve??.....anyway, I just received a call this morning from the Dentist, and he basically explained the whole "office charge" thing....basically justifying charging $38 for what the statement said was a $30 charge; then he asked, "is it true you asked my receptionist about calling in and saying I'm one of my sons to make appointments?"....I responded "yes". The Dentist was actually very rude on the phone....he said I would be getting a letter shortly about the issue and promptly hung up on me. An hour later I received an email letter saying we were no longer welcome as patients!! Wow!....they over-bill me, then 'fire' me, all over what amounts to about $24 ($8 each for me and my sons).....I've been in customer service for a very long time, and this is NOT the way to treat customers/clients.

The hygienist was a bit rough with her cleaning, as I had sharp pain at least 1-2 times afterwards. This dentist was the first I saw as an adult out of college so the pain after a cleaning is one reason (among others) I now require nitrous. Regarding availability, I tried to reschedule my appointment before I moved at the end of 2015 but they were scheduling for at least 3 months out. I didn't know what a reasonable cost for cleanings was, but now that I have been in CA and have insurance, the cost I have paid with this practice ($220?) seems high. In my opinion, nothing about the practice really justified the cost or difficulty scheduling - especially since they don't have nitrous for anxious patients like me.
