World-class staff. All staff very caring for disabled customers. I went to see a movie on August 27th, 2023 at the Scotia Bank IMAX. I showed up one hour early for the show. I walk with a cane and a brace I am also hard of hearing in both ears. The staff were all very kind and helped me to find my seat. They also helped me with my drinks and food. We went to an Easter matinee. The theatre was quiet. The ticket counter, confession & check in flowed smoothly with no fanfare. Because of the lack of guests the theatre was extremely clean as were the bathrooms in Maine foyer. A great visit! READY PLAYER ONE was AWESOME! Not to bad for bringing babe to the movies for the first time. Change table with diapers out front, stroller parking and low sound made it a pleasant experience. The only thing I would suggest is the more comfortable theatre with the larger lounge seats. $2 dollars off matinee if you bring your stroller. Scotiabank Theatre is a nice facility. It is on the west south part of the WEM, second and third level, really close to the pirate boat At this theater you can find 1 DBOX screen, 6 (3D) Screens, 2 UltraAVX Screens and the best one the IMAX screen. 13 Screen in total, 2 Party Rooms. Outtakes is the company in charge of the fast food in the movie theater, they offer hot dogs, fries and poutine, nachos, beef burgers, wraps, chili, chicken tenders, brownies, etc. They also have pizza 73 and Yoyo's Yogurt Cafe, but my new discover is that you can ask for tea and they will give you Starbucks products! If you are on the west side of the city, this is your best choice, same as if you are already on the WEM shopping or spending some time. read more

The acting was good and the main character really conveyed his struggles with his Pakistani background while leaving in the US. If this theatre were on its own, I'm not sure I'd give it 4 stars but being that it's conveniently located in West Edmonton Mall and makes for an easy date night or escape on a cold winter's eve - it gets 4 stars from me. My last adventure here was to see the Game of Thrones on IMAX and it was fabulous! I miss the fire breathing dragon that is no longer here :-( The lines always move quick and you can pay ahead of time online or through the app on your phone for Cineplex. You can redeem scene points here for free movies or if you use ScotiaBank and earn scene points through them. What could make this theatre better? This place has fallen apart over the years. When I first visited in 1999 it was fresh and clean with an epic fire breathing dragon. At that time it was called Silver City. As with many things in West Edmonton Mall, the high use and traffic of this theater has worn it down. Time has also begun it's natural process of returning the concrete steps and metal railings back to rust and sand. Everything has a grimy film to it from years of wear and tear. The theatre curtains have enough dust on them you can see it when the lights are dimmed. The staff are inexperienced, apathetic young people probably suffering through their first crap job. The popcorn was stale and greasy. Worn out carpets and worn out souls. A major overhaul is needed to lift employee and customers spirits. I did love the movie but that is thanks to the people who made the film. I will not attend this theatre again unless it gets a nice overhaul like the rest of the mall. read more

I hate how places are bought out by big corporations and given a totally lame name, like this one. I mean, who says on a Friday night, "Hey guys, let's check out a movie at the Scotiabank Theatre"? Doesn't exactly have a nice weekend movie vibe to it. In my heart, it will always be SilverCity. But enough with my griping. This theatre is still pretty cool, despite its lame name (last time, I promise). The line-ups are always crazy here, so it's a good idea to come about a half hour early before your movie. They have those quick pay machines, so if you have debit or credit on you it's an alternative to the long line-ups. It's always a feast for the eyes here, with a life-size Batman flying close to the ceiling. I got to see the famous dragon breath fire for the first time recently. Or rather, I felt it expel its fire. I was standing in line at the IMAX theatre busy talking to a friend, when all of a sudden there was this incredible heat on my back and head. It was awesome and terrifying at the same time, I couldn't move. I felt like I was in Backdraft! So the next time I go, I'm going to be sure to stand far away from the dragon. He's cool and all, but I don't want to feel like a human roasted marshmallow again. I don't come here very often though, because it's the most expensive theatre, oh I don't know, EVER! It's only worth it when they have one of the big blockbusters showing on the IMAX screen. Other than that, the movie experience isn't drastically different from other theatres. read more

I'm just going to get right to the point: Scotiabank Theatre (I'll always know it as SilverCity) is cool, because it has a fire-breathing dragon. If it didn't have the fire-breathing dragon, it would just be another big theatre, that is no better than North or South Edmonton Common. I kind of have mixed feelings about the dragon. Although it's ultra cool and awesome-looking, it also frightens me. It scares me enough just looking at it, and whoever created this thing definitely knew how to create an eerie mood. First, the scary music starts, and you're not sure when the dragon will start moving. Then the dragon begins to move slowly back and forth, and eventually it lets out some very powerful roars. You know at any moment it's going to blow fire, but you don't know exactly when! This is the part I can't stand--the not knowing! Finally, the dragon breathes fire, and then it turns its head and breaths it again, and you feel the heat on your face! This is when I am glad I have not just been burnt alive. It's really an anxiety-ridden experience, and I don't know why I keep going back, but when I hide by the escalators, it's really not so bad! But enough about the dragon. This theatre is decent--nice comfy seats, awesome sound, and great snacks. The women's washrooms are the worst though. If it's really busy, prepare for a long line-up. This theatre is expensive, and I think it's at least $1 more than other Cineplex cinemas, but it's still a fun place to go, when the mall gets boring. (And don't forget the dragon!) read more

When this theatre first opened, it was likely the best in the city with the number of theatres, seats, dragon breathing fire, and IMAX theatre. I recently saw a movie here, and the theatre has really gone downhill. The line up was long but it moved pretty quick. And I was happy they had cheap Tuesday so the ticket price was only $7.50. The concession lines were long as expected but likely you will step on sticky floor of spilled pop and popcorn. I wouldn't put my purse on the counter tops either. Our theatre was small, and again, I don't recommend you put anything on the floor except your feet. I'm even leary to use the cup holders with dried gum or snot rags. The bathroom was dirty, and I know they even ask their staff to clean it up. What 17 year old will do an exceptional cleaning job if they likely don't even clean their bathroom at home? I would expect the owners could pay for cleaning staff for the bathrooms and the theatres more than once a day. I don't come here to see movies very often and now I know why. The movie itself is usually fine but it's everything else in the experience that needs improving. read more

I only like this theater because of the nostalgic feeling you get when you walk in. They have a bunch of cool statues all over the place, from Batman to E.T. I think kids would enjoy it the most. The general movie experience is like any other theater but it is cool how along with the regular movie snacks they also have a pizza hut and burger king inside. But my favorite part about this theater, like most people, is the fire breathing dragon hanging from the ceiling. It breathes fire every half hour and it is quite the event. If you stand at the top you feel like the fire might just hit you in the face and that it might even burn your face off (it won't though so don't be scared). The event is quite the spectacle and even though it has been around for years now, everyone stops what they are doing to watch it. I would suggest checking it out at least once. read more

Oh man, so many memories at the artist-formerly-known-as-Silvercity. I remember lining up at 10am to be the first to see X-Men back in 2000, which was the first movie I went to in Edmonton. I also saw Pokemon 2000 here during that same year. Yes, Pokemon is memorable when you're 12 years old. So was Mission: Impossible 2. This place is a great attraction and not just because it's a movie theatre. They have some crazy, huge props all of the place: dragons, dinosaurs, gargoyles...Batman. It was always exciting to see them when I was young but now they just creep me out. I do have a problem with their IMAX theatre though; it feels a tad squishy to me. I can barely see 3/4 of the screen even when I'm sitting in the back row. When I was watching Avatar I had to shift my eyes across the screen since I couldn't see the entire thing normally. Every time I go to the IMAX here it's always an extremely uncomfortable experience. so no five stars for you, Scotiabank Theatre! read more

While I do like the fact that this theatre is more easily transit-accessible than many of the other Cineplex theatres in town, and the fact that it is attached to such a MAJOR shopping center, I'm really truly going to miss the fire-breathing dragon among other decor aspects of this space. I have so many memories of taking friends from out of town (and out of the country!) here just to see the sights. I've been to a fair number of movie screenings here (both the preview types and the normal run-of-the-mill movies too). Generally they've been pretty awesome though once there was projection issues at a preview screener resulting in free chocolate for everyone. Concessions and film selection are pretty much the same here as at other Cineplex locations though this one does have an IMAX screen so there's that! read more

I've had great experiences here. The place has changed so much over the years but its still a nice brief getaway from everyday life. A lot cleaner than some other theaters but things can go sideways on a busy day. Only complaint is parking during Christmas time lol. read more

Not as Spectacular as before but your there for the movies. It use to have fire breathing dragon statues when I was little. Still a great place to take any dates on. Very spacious inside, can be busy depending on movie or event. Parking is the same, depending if its a new movie or event. It is WEM, shop inside if your waiting for a movie time. Well it's a miracle the theatres at West Edmonton Mall has finally been renovated. All of the centre concessions have been pushed back towards the walls which makes it a lot more of an open, airy place. .. Besides the renovations though, everything about this theatre is still the same, not good food/confessions, definitely not the best theatre in the city, but not bad. There are few things about Scotia Bank that I will say that they do do a good job at: One, handling big events like VIP premiers of movies. They are well equipped for this. The other thing, which is huge, is that they have the best seats in the city out of any theater, period. Movie theatre seats are a huge bone of contention for me, as a woman I find that most theatres weight bear their seats for men. At so many new cinemas when i sit down I know that the seat reclines, and I can push them back if I push back on the seat in front of me, but naturally I do not weight enough to make it recline on its own. Rrrr, it is maddening to sit in a theatre for hours, upright, as the guys around you recline. Ok, nuff said. Good but much more work needed to be great. read more

I remember when Scotiabank Theatre was the best in the city. It was a dazzling space full of pageantry and visual wonders, and that was even before you got into the actually theatre to watch the movie you were there to see. While the theatres themselves are ok, I really feel as though this place has fallen by the wayside in terms of upkeep. It's good, but it's not great. Most movie theatres suffer from this problem though -- the appear to be largely run by kids in their teens who don't seem terribly interested in doing their work. The place is always just a little too messy, and a little to busy and the service just slightly lacking. But sometimes, you're in the west end and you need to see a movie, and this place if your best bet. Because, well, it's also your only bet. On the plus side they have an IMAX theatre... but the downside here is that they insist on showing the IMAX demo before every film -- you know, the really dated one that looks like it was produced in the early 90s. In any case, you'll end up here if you want to see a movie on the west side. That's just the way it is. Grab some popcorn, resign yourself to the chaos and mediocrity and enjoy the movie! read more

This is still one of the better places to catch a new release in this city. It's decent for premiers too. I really need to work on winning more tickets to those. Odeon now has the Scene card available. I discovered it through Facebook. The card is free, you earn points when you buy movie tickets and concession items, plus you get 10% off concession purchases. I'm up for anything to offset the food prices. Plus, I won premier tickets for entering a contest through Scene. Okay, time to vent. They've improved theatres a lot but there has to be a way for me to sit through a movie anywhere in the theatre I choose without having the back of my seat kicked. I sat through 3 hours of Lord of the Rings here and the ENTIRE last hour, the chick behind me was rhythmically kicking the back of my seat. I did everything to try to get her to stop - I turned around & glared, threw candy wrappers over my shoulder, nothing would get her attention so I reached around and grabbed her foot. Ruined the whole experience. Now I only sit in the back. I can't wait until I can afford a house so I can design my very own theatre room! read more

There's a lot to love about this cinema and a lot to hate. LOVE: -the IMAX, enough said -the AVX, enough said -the overall nostalgia feel you get. With the Yoda and Batman, you almost immediately tap into your inner child. -best 3D and digital projection in town. HATE: -The staff has an obnoxious tendency to have lots of people on, yet certain concession stands aren't open. That's nt just for popcorn, at the burger king and pizza 73 people just fool around at the back. -uncomfy seats. One time I could feel the top of a nail on the armrests!!!! -employees just standing around in the hallways. - their managements of lineups are horrible. Generally if I can see whatever movie im interested in downtown at the Landmark theater I will just due to how much cleaner it is and quieter versus a Cineplex venue. However with only 9 screens downtown that isn't always an option and when it's not I come here. Being in WEM the convenience of it is undeniable. If you want to do a date night you can grab dinner on Bourbon street and then head here. There is also ample parking especially if your not coming during peak times on the weekends or Tuesdays. Also if you want all the bells and whistles like 3D,big sound,and the ability to pick your own seats well then this is where you want to be. There are a few things about this place that drive me nuts though. The cleanliness is abhorrent. I came in for a 1:30 showing of Moana this past Tuesday and the bathrooms were already starting to show signs of needing attention. The snack food prices are just ridiculous. Also staff vary in diligence to their work from person to person. I was told I couldn't be attended to at the hot food register and asked to go over to the normal concession because the tills weren't ready yet but when I had initially walked up to order there were two of them just standing there talking. If you aren't ready for customers yet put up the sign at least and don't hang around by the registers as it gives off the impression your open. It could be worse but there are definitely better venues in the city to see a movie. If you have your heart set on something specific though and this is the only place that has it it does the job fine and you will likely still have a good night out. You just won't be blown away by the atmosphere or service. read more

Well, I used to really like this theatre. Unfortunately, as I get older, I'm less impressed by flashy gimmicks and fire-spewing dragons, and more impressed by good customer service. I went to a movie with my boyfriend here last night and was not too impressed. There was a huge lineup to get tickets (and we couldn't go to one of the machines because we had a 2 for 1 coupon) and only 2 people working the counter. Needless to say, the lineup took a long time to get through. And when we did get up to the register, the girl who helped us seemed miserable and angry with the world. I understand having a bad night, but it doesn't need to be taken out on other people. Every employee we encountered was miserable and provided poor customer service. Yes, the theatres are nice and they have a lot of showy stuff around, so that's why they get 3 stars instead of two. They have really poor customer service here though. read more

Have you ever been to a Cineplex Theatre? Then you've pretty much been to Scotiabank Theatre. A couple of key differences here that bump this from a three to a four star - the giant dragon that breathes fire and the incredible 3D Imax Theatres. Plus, if your movie starts at, say, 9:30, you can go get tickets early, then hang around the mall till things close at 9. Other than that, it's your usual, expensive-y night out at the movie theatre. read more

It is very convenient to go for a movie and then have supper and/or drinks at Bourbon street; it can be the perfect movie and dinner date ;) The theater is in great shape, they often place some movie characters falling from the ceiling to make your experience feel better. They have had a Godzilla and also Yoda. There is an IMAX theater in this location, it is a great experience for those movies with great visual effects. Washrooms are in good shape but usually crowded after the movie finishes (no surprise here) The West Edmonton Mall has plenty of parking so you shouldn't have trouble finding a spot where to park. Since this is a Cineplex theater, you can also use your Scene card here. Don't forget to bring it along as you can get extra discounts :) read more

This is the closest Cineplex so out of convenience it is where I usually go. It's very similar to any Cineplex theatre nothing to speak out about in absolute positives or negatives. The popcorn is delicious, the chairs are comfy and the sound is loud. After a nice matinee show you can then escape to the West Ed Mall to do a little bit of shopping to get those noodle legs back working right. read more

I am editing this review. I came to a movie screening on Wednesday August 26 for We Are Your Friends. It's a good thing that I cannot give 0 stars because that's what Theatre #2 deserved. It seemed to me that no one bothered to clean the theatre before they tried to pack us all in for a screening. There was garbage ev-ry-where. It was so gross. My friends and I couldn't even sit together because of the condition of the seats. There was leftover food containers that I could smell through the whole movie. It was beyond disgusting. There were things in the cup holders, popcorn everywhere, sticky floors, you name it. I was completely turned off, and didn't get to enjoy my movie-going experience. I come here at least once a week and I expect better. Yuuuuuuuuck! The only reason why I come to this theatre is for the advanced screenings. I haven't had any problems with staff or patrons. Parking, usually, hasn't been a problem since the screenings are during the week. I miss the dragon that was showcased here. That was definitely a sight to see. I don't normally get food or drinks here as I think it's extremely over priced, even with Scene card discounts. I go here because of the screenings. I suppose it could be worse... read more

This was a pretty nice theater. I wish the dragon was working so I could see it breath fire every 15 minutes. I watched Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon in 3D IMAX, and we were sitting in the third row. So it was a little uncomfortable watching and I had to turn my head often to see everything that was happening across the huge screen. One of the flagships for Edmonton Cineplex. It's not the nicest theater in the city, but I believe it does have the most screens. I usually book my tickets online and pay a little more for the assigned seating option. Then I know my favorite seats are assured! I have never had issues with picture or sound, it's always been spot on. I love the new trivia app where you can play for Scene points before the movie starts. Since this is a popular theater, the lineups can be really long. I highly recommend buying your tickets online and using the mobile pickup machines. A quick workaround the lineups! read more

Scotiabank Theatre Edmonton, inside WEM, has been a beacon of Friday night action and escapes for as long as I can remember. From the early day of the fire breathing dragon to the current giant Yoga, this theatre has it all. IMAX, 3D, you name it, they've got it here. While parking can be a pain at the mall, at least you can make this your one stop date night with dinner in the mall before a movie and you never even had to get your shoes wet. I keep coming back to the IMAX here, starting with my very first movie here being Avatar in 3D and my most recent, Cinderella. We only go to this Theatre for advanced screenings that play here. Staff is generally fine. Parking directly near it can be a nuisance. The arcade is not bad and there are a number of cinemas, as well as the IMAX if you are into that and want to pay extra. I found out last night that they dont give refills on any size popcorn or drink, including large sized which I thought was the case ... Apparently not. Overall, the Theatre has a variety of food and high prices, ok parking, a variety of theater options, but no refills and no dragon ... The new layout they have though is better than before. read more

This theatre is nothing special. Just your average overpriced cinema. Snacks are expensive and nothing really stood out from all the other cinemas, but nothing was out of place or wrong either. You can get and use your scene points at scotia bank theatre and it's pretty much like any cineplex. Their IMAX is pretty impressive though and the seats are comfy. I wouldn't cross the city just to come see a movie here but if I was already at the mall, I'd definitely stop in if there was a new movie I wanted to see. Overall, just come here if the location is convenient for you. It's a plus that it's located in west edmonton mall so you can shop and see a movie all in one location, especially if it's winter and -30 out and you don't want to have to run to the car a million times. read more

Even though the dragon has been removed. I really enjoy going to this theatre. We went and caught an early show and it wasn't busy at all, but it was still a good experience. The staff was friendly and quick and everything was clean. The chairs are comfy in the regular theatre and there is a lot of leg room compared to other places I have been. One of Edmonton's most popular theaters. This theater usually hosts private viewings/early screening parties sponsored by local radio stations. I recommend using the outside entrance. The mall entrance has escalators however most of the time they are down for maintenance and the stairs can be rather steep, The lobby is pretty big. It features a snack bar, large arcade, ticket counters, and side snack bar that features Starbucks coffee. This theater is always busy. There are usually always large crowds and lines for the concession stands. It's not uncommon to either leave line to see your movie on time or tough it out and miss some of the movie. The theaters are usually clean and the seats are comfortable. If you're coming just to see a movie it does it's job. They got rid of the big dragon in the lobby however a giant Yoda and Batman are still there. read more

The theater is located in WEM which is great if you are spending a snow day at the mall. The seats are ok and the place is very well served by a ton of food and drink vendors. Prices a little high but to be expected. I usually grab a bite in the mall before the movie. Lot's of theaters and a good frequent movie program. read more

I've been to the Scotiabank Theatre about 16 billion times! That doesn't mean I think it's the prime spot to watch movies, nope! It just means that I've lived within minutes of West Edmonton Mall for many years now! But that's not to say it sucks either! It's just...ummm...okay! If you want the true movie night experience then you might wanna check out one of the other multiplex theatres in the city, becase Scotiabank can be a bit tight! There is not a lot of room in its lobby for the amount of folks that come through there; but there's potential in the games area that maybe should be reworked to accommodate the long lines! Plus, they took away the giant fire-breathing dragon that gave it all that character in the first place! read more
