We went to an Easter matinee. The theatre was quiet. The ticket counter, confession & check in flowed smoothly with no fanfare. Because of the lack of guests the theatre was extremely clean as were the bathrooms in Maine foyer. A great visit! READY PLAYER ONE was AWESOME! You will regret not seeing this one on the big screen so much fun!

Scotiabank Theatre is a nice facility. It is on the west south part of the WEM, second and third level, really close to the pirate boat At this theater you can find 1 DBOX screen, 6 (3D) Screens, 2 UltraAVX Screens and the best one the IMAX screen. 13 Screen in total, 2 Party Rooms. Outtakes is the company in charge of the fast food in the movie theater, they offer hot dogs, fries and poutine, nachos, beef burgers, wraps, chili, chicken tenders, brownies, etc. They also have pizza 73 and Yoyo's Yogurt Cafe, but my new discover is that you can ask for tea and they will give you Starbucks products! If you are on the west side of the city, this is your best choice, same as if you are already on the WEM shopping or spending some time.

I went to see the Big Sick. The movie was great, funny, heartfelt and it had a nice pace. Not too slow or too much at the same time. The acting was good and the main character really conveyed his struggles with his Pakistani background while leaving in the US. The theater was somehow clean but it would be nice if staff could spend more time cleaning.

The straw that broke this camel's back. This lovely person leaned all the way back banging my knees many times.

This place has fallen apart over the years. When I first visited in 1999 it was fresh and clean with an epic fire breathing dragon. At that time it was called Silver City. As with many things in West Edmonton Mall, the high use and traffic of this theater has worn it down. Time has also begun it's natural process of returning the concrete steps and metal railings back to rust and sand. Everything has a grimy film to it from years of wear and tear. The theatre curtains have enough dust on them you can see it when the lights are dimmed. The staff are inexperienced, apathetic young people probably suffering through their first crap job. The popcorn was stale and greasy. Worn out carpets and worn out souls. A major overhaul is needed to lift employee and customers spirits. I did love the movie but that is thanks to the people who made the film. I will not attend this theatre again unless it gets a nice overhaul like the rest of the mall.

I hate how places are bought out by big corporations and given a totally lame name, like this one. I mean, who says on a Friday night, "Hey guys, let's check out a movie at the Scotiabank Theatre"? Doesn't exactly have a nice weekend movie vibe to it. In my heart, it will always be SilverCity. But enough with my griping. This theatre is still pretty cool, despite its lame name (last time, I promise). The line-ups are always crazy here, so it's a good idea to come about a half hour early before your movie. They have those quick pay machines, so if you have debit or credit on you it's an alternative to the long line-ups. It's always a feast for the eyes here, with a life-size Batman flying close to the ceiling. I got to see the famous dragon breath fire for the first time recently. Or rather, I felt it expel its fire. I was standing in line at the IMAX theatre busy talking to a friend, when all of a sudden there was this incredible heat on my back and head. It was awesome and terrifying at the same time, I couldn't move. I felt like I was in Backdraft! So the next time I go, I'm going to be sure to stand far away from the dragon. He's cool and all, but I don't want to feel like a human roasted marshmallow again. I don't come here very often though, because it's the most expensive theatre, oh I don't know, EVER! It's only worth it when they have one of the big blockbusters showing on the IMAX screen. Other than that, the movie experience isn't drastically different from other theatres.

    Neat gargoyle.

I'm just going to get right to the point: Scotiabank Theatre (I'll always know it as SilverCity) is cool, because it has a fire-breathing dragon. If it didn't have the fire-breathing dragon, it would just be another big theatre, that is no better than North or South Edmonton Common. I kind of have mixed feelings about the dragon. Although it's ultra cool and awesome-looking, it also frightens me. It scares me enough just looking at it, and whoever created this thing definitely knew how to create an eerie mood. First, the scary music starts, and you're not sure when the dragon will start moving. Then the dragon begins to move slowly back and forth, and eventually it lets out some very powerful roars. You know at any moment it's going to blow fire, but you don't know exactly when! This is the part I can't stand--the not knowing! Finally, the dragon breathes fire, and then it turns its head and breaths it again, and you feel the heat on your face! This is when I am glad I have not just been burnt alive. It's really an anxiety-ridden experience, and I don't know why I keep going back, but when I hide by the escalators, it's really not so bad! But enough about the dragon. This theatre is decent--nice comfy seats, awesome sound, and great snacks. The women's washrooms are the worst though. If it's really busy, prepare for a long line-up. This theatre is expensive, and I think it's at least $1 more than other Cineplex cinemas, but it's still a fun place to go, when the mall gets boring. (And don't forget the dragon!)

I only like this theater because of the nostalgic feeling you get when you walk in. They have a bunch of cool statues all over the place, from Batman to E.T. I think kids would enjoy it the most. The general movie experience is like any other theater but it is cool how along with the regular movie snacks they also have a pizza hut and burger king inside. But my favorite part about this theater, like most people, is the fire breathing dragon hanging from the ceiling. It breathes fire every half hour and it is quite the event. If you stand at the top you feel like the fire might just hit you in the face and that it might even burn your face off (it won't though so don't be scared). The event is quite the spectacle and even though it has been around for years now, everyone stops what they are doing to watch it. I would suggest checking it out at least once.

Great place to watch movies with friends or family. You can have dinner before at many restaurants in WEM.

It was Sunday night which is Senior's Day and it's great they have deals most days. It wasn't too busy, there were just two people in front of us to buy our tickets and concession had no line. It was nice to be able to select our seats too. The washrooms were clean and there were enough stalls so no line up. The movie poster for our theatre was incorrect, so some people were in the wrong theatre. It was the first evening movie and the theatre was clean and ample leg room. The cup holder was a bit sticky but not bad. Another minor issue was the AC was blowing down throughout the movie and I had my hoodie as I usually get cold in theatres but it was still minor annoyance. Good theatre and would see a movie again here if I was downtown.

The films are of great variety from animals, environment, action, and more! Recently, I went to see Pandas: The Journey Home in 3D. It was a weekday afternoon and there were about 10 others in the theatre. It would be great to see more people watching this film but it was shown a few times that day and has been playing for a while now. The seats are assigned when you buy your tickets. I was really impressed with the renovations of the theatre. I didn't have to hold my seat down which is great for those who have their hands full with snacks. Most of the seats are in the middle with about 4 on the sides. The 3D glasses they gave you are big and sturdy and almost seemed new even though people have worn them. They are much better than the ones I have worn at the regular theatres. If you are a panda fan, this is a must see film! For 40 minutes, we got to see cute and cuddly pandas as they grow from babies at the Wolong Panda Centre in China. There's also a story of a panda preparing and returned to the wild. Love the new IMAX theatre! The price is $13.95 for adults but there's a 10% coupon in the SUTP. The best way to see lots of shows more economically would be to purchase a membership or volunteer! One of the volunteer perks is to get free passes after you've completed certain number of hours and time but it's fun to volunteer here!

This time, the Outtakes Cafe was open for once. This is the first time we had a chance to try it. The troll got chili poutine, and I had nachos. The kid behind the counter warned me that their nachos weren't like the regular theaters nachos. I did know they came with sour cream and guacamole...right? Um...yeah. That's why I ordered it. He made it sound like a bad thing. The poutine was apparently tasty, but not very hot. I actually really liked my nachos, even though the cheese sauce lacked flavor, the generous puddles of sour cream and guacamole made up for it. Theater prices, but you can use your Scene card. Also, we saw the latest Star Trek movie, with the Panoramic view. I think this is a brand new thing--new for us anyway. The movie has a couple of extra screens on the sides for a little bit of extra footage. They tack on a bit more admission for this, but I used some points on my Scene card to cushion that. The troll and I are in agreement. The panoramic view made some scenes really cool, but were completely unnecessary in others. Made for some impressive battle scenes, a cooler space station, and flashy credits. We also agree that the Panoramic view would have MUCH more impressive if it didn't have corners. The images don't meld together. They could be jarring at times. Oh well...new technology and it will most likely improve over time.
