The whole experience was wonderful. It was quick and easy to scan our vax passes, and there was literally no line at concession. Once we got into the theatre it was completely empty, only 20 mins before the show started. Eventually one other couple came in and sat down. But that was it, there were 4 people including us in the theatre. We basically got a private screening, so fun!! The movie was incredibly loud, but that may have something to do with the empty theatre as volumes are set for a mostly full theatre. But otherwise is was an awesome experience.

The films are of great variety from animals, environment, action, and more! Recently, I went to see Pandas: The Journey Home in 3D. It was a weekday afternoon and there were about 10 others in the theatre. It would be great to see more people watching this film but it was shown a few times that day and has been playing for a while now. The seats are assigned when you buy your tickets. I was really impressed with the renovations of the theatre. I didn't have to hold my seat down which is great for those who have their hands full with snacks. Most of the seats are in the middle with about 4 on the sides. The 3D glasses they gave you are big and sturdy and almost seemed new even though people have worn them. They are much better than the ones I have worn at the regular theatres. If you are a panda fan, this is a must see film! For 40 minutes, we got to see cute and cuddly pandas as they grow from babies at the Wolong Panda Centre in China. There's also a story of a panda preparing and returned to the wild. Love the new IMAX theatre! The price is $13.95 for adults but there's a 10% coupon in the SUTP. The best way to see lots of shows more economically would be to purchase a membership or volunteer! One of the volunteer perks is to get free passes after you've completed certain number of hours and time but it's fun to volunteer here!

The EIFF has been on since Sept. 26, and will continue until this Saturday, Oct. 4th. If you're thinking its just a bunch of artsy fartsy movies that are simply cinematic metaphors, you're sadly missing out on a lot. These films are where the real talent lies, where you can watch meaningful scenes unfold before you. I just went to catch "Rachel Getting Married" starring Anne Hathaway tonight, and it was amazing. It's great to sit in a large theatre knowing you're sitting among people who appreciate films just as much as you do. It's only on for three more days, so try to catch at least one film. The movies are being played at the Empire City Centre 9 and Metro Cinema downtown this year (Garneau and Princess theatres couldn't be used this year), and you can just purchase the tickets at the entrance like any other film. The EIFF will also be hosting a closing night gala on their last day on Saturday, at Empire City Centre 9 Theatre. The last film starts at 7:30pm and the after-party begins at 9:30pm. Tickets for the closing gala are sold at Tix on the Square (at Sir Winston Churchill Square) until this Friday, Oct. 3rd at 6pm.

The opening night film is something I anxiously await each year, this year it was Cut Bank filmed mostly in nearby Innisfree. The gala afterwards is always great so that you can have a glass of bubbles & a few nibbles while catching up with the other festival goers & discussing the film. As a parent it makes me happy that there are selections here that I can bring my kids to & expose them to this level of films & documentaries that get them thinking & make them aware of subjects they wouldn't be get while attending the average *blockbuster*, such as Just Eat It, Midnight Sun and Springhammer . One of my favourite aspects of the festival although I can't attend as many of the days as I'd like is the Lunchbox Shorts. You go in & have your @SubwayCanada sub, water & cookie while watching a themed grouping of short films, today were a few somewhat twisted but highly entertaining & funny shorts! I have a few more selections circled in my program before it ends with the closing film Gone Doggy Gone & then the gala to say good-bye for another year, I'm so proud of @edmfilmfest & this event that they pull off year after year!! #EIFF14 #yeg #yegfilm

Definitely take advantage of that as the line at the bar gets quite long. The theater was very comfy and elegant as well. We parked underground at the library. Getting out was worse than hockey games. Next time I would think twice about parking there. It's definitely nice not having to walk outside side to get to your car in winter though.

What has changed is instead of the prime rib station was replaced with a striploin and beef brisket station. I tried a piece of each. They were certainly not stingly. I am surprised on how much I enjoyed the striploin. But for a girl that doesn't like sweets, I love the Mayfield dessert choices. They are bite size so you can try a selection. I always get the rice pudding. So for a fairly predictable night out for both food and entertainment, which you won't be blown away but you won't be disappointed, try here.

This year, we happened to go the first week of the new season, Simon and Garfunkle. The show was excellent, the two singers channelling Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle perfectly. The only fault I could find with the show was that the drums were inappropriately loud. I have S&G vinyl that I just played to prove that my memories of the 60's are quite correct: The drums on the original are very subdued. The likely cause is that the program had a long resume for the drummer. Likely his ego was as puffed up as his resume. Where we were disappointed was with the dinner. It's always a buffet and excellent if you arrive as soon as the doors open. This time, we chose the brisket from the carvery and found it quite dry. The baked desserts were stale, as if they had been saved for the month the MDT was closed. Everything elsa was freshly made, salads and the items on the steam tables. Another problem was with the air conditioning. My wife complained that it was too cold in the theatre and was told that nothing could be done about it. Thankfully, the staff brought her a fuzzy warm blanket that she was able to wrap around herself. Before the show started, I looked around and another man in short sleeves was wrapped up as well. There had been a late summer heat wave which would have required cooling one or two nights before. The MDT should have been able to adapt more quickly. Hopefully when our anniversary rolls around next year, the MDT will be back on its game.
