Came to watch Top Gun. When we waited for the theatre to open for us to be seated we were greeted by the nicest workers. They offered us menus and if we wanted to sit and have a drink while we waited for them to allow us to sit. We didn't wait long. We got our seats. Everything was super clean. We were served right away and got our drinks and popcorn right away. The place was slightly busy. They had the right amount of staff working that we didn't wait for anything. Decided to try VIP to enjoy some food with a film. Service was mostly good, the food was okay (burger, popcorn, beer) for 2 people. - Price (with tip) over $90 - wow! - Beer selection has no dark beers?? (amber ales, ale, stout, etc). It's all fizzy lagers. - Beers served with no glasses. I know some people are fine drinking from a can, but in a restaurant? I had to get my own as there was no help for that one. - Food was okay. Burger was drowning in ketchup so was pretty messy, which is not what anyone wants in a dark theatre! Don't know we'd be back. In my opinion this theatre doesn't even deserve 1 star ...this was one of the worst "VIP" experiences I've ever had! First, the seats are horrible, do NOT recline, no foot rest, seat covers falling off, hard and terribly uncomfortable. Second, the service- or lack of it! We arrived at 7pm for a 7:30pm movie and not one server came over to ask if we wanted anything, we tried flagging someone down, they all ignored us, never made eye contact!! After 30mins I went out to the bar and asked the bartender if I could order popcorn and a drink... she said if you want "faster service" I could go out to the concessions and get it there!! I said I bought VIP-$60 for 2 tickets, I thought this was part of the "experience" to have service at our seat!!!???... paid $40 for cold popcorn and 2 pops, 2 candies that arrived 20mins into the movie!!! $100 down the drain... and btw the Movie- the devil wears prada 2 SUCKED!! I've been pretty excited for this theater to open, since for the past few years South Edmonton Common has been the only movie theatre (aside from the much smaller Garneau and Princess Theatre) on the south side. I've been to this theatre a couple of times since it opened. Both times I went for the VIP cinema, and I believe it's the only one of it's kind in Alberta. There are three VIP screens at Windemere. The VIP cinemas have a nice lounge where you can get drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) as well as food before your show. This means the VIP section is for those 18 and older, but the rest of the theatre is fine for minors. There's even a pretty good sized arcade, so kids will have something to do before the movies in the regular theatres. The loung is a nice way to relax before the movie, and there's quite a bit of seating including an upper area (which wasn't being used when I was there). Since there's three theatres in the VIP section, they probably stagger the showtimes enough so that it doesn't get too crowded. You can also order food before the show, or you can wait until you get seated in the theatre and order food or drinks then. Servers come by and take your order during the commercials, so my friend and I got some appetizers. They have a few dinner options (I think there was a burger and a quesidilla), some appetizers, a couple desserts, and drinks. You can also get someone to bring out your standard movie theatre snacks like pop, popcorn or candy. I had the deep fried pickles, which were all right. I don't think the food will be earth shattering, but it's nice to know you can actually get something to eat (aside from a greasy slice of pizza or a hot dog) from the theatre. It's also kinda fun to order food like at a restaurant before a movie, although this probably will get old if you do it all the time. You can pay cash or use debit or credit. The last time I was there the servers were pretty busy, and a lady freaked out and started yelling that there needed to be more servers for this to work. On the one hand I get her comment, but at the same time I was thinking, "wow this theatre's only been open a few weeks and people are already starting to feel entitled." Since the the VIP section has its own concession (which is only a few feet away from the theatres) this is my suggestion: if the servers aren't getting to you, and you just want some popcorn or other typical movie theatre fare, then walk a few feet and go to the concession and get it yourself. Use the in-seat service for order appetizers or something else you won't be able to get standing in line at the concession. Aside from the food/beverage service, and the fact the VIP section doesn't allow kids there are a couple more unique features to the theatre. First is the fact that the seating is reserved. When my friend bought tickets from the Cineplex app the option to pick seats never came up, so we thought maybe it was just like a regular theatre wehre you pick you're own seats. When we got to the ticket counter we were just given two tickets. No one asked us where we wanted to sit, or even said something like, "you'll be sitting in row yadda in seats yadda and yadda." Again we figured we must have been mistaken about the reserved seating. We picked two seats, and of course a little later found out were were sitting in the wrong seats. My advice would be not to buy tickets from the cineplex app. I bought tickets from the website for the next movie I went to, and I was able to pick the seats, and see a seating chart. The theatre itself is also nicer than a regular theatre. The seats are wider, and made of a leather-like material than regular movie seats. There's also a lot more legroom so you can hypothetically get up to go to the washroom during the movie, without bumping into people. Each seat has a nice arm rest, cup holder, and a table top that can be folder out from by the arm rest if you get something to eat. No more popcorm on your laps. At the very very very very front (separated from the regular seating) are six recliner seats - row AA. I didn't buy tickets for that row, but from what I can tell they're the same price as the regular seats in the VIP theatre. So if you really want to relax during the show go for those. There are less seats in the VIP theatre than in the regular theatre, so if you're planning to see a really popular movie, or you're going with a big group of people, you'll want to buy your tickets in advance to make sure you can get seats. I found the audio of the commercials that play before the movie wasn't too loud, probably because there are staff members trying to take food and drink orders. This was a nice bonus. The price for the VIP is $20. I won't use the VIP theatre all the time, but it is a nice treat every now and then. read more

Came here to see a movie in the VIP theatre. Did I feel like a VIP? No, I felt like I was surrounded by people who wanted to stuff their faces before seeing a movie or during the movie and too lazy to move so they were willing to pay a premium price to have someone serve them. Maybe some of the people would have also liked a toilet as part of the seat as well? Yes, there are perks such as choosing your seat prior, comfortable chairs, and enjoying a drink before the show. But these would not be enough for me to return. After the movie, the theatre looked disgusting with food boxes, popcorn bags, pop cups, and candy bags laying around. People must think that paying a premium for VIP means they can act like slobs. The bathroom is nicer than your typical theatre washrooms but not when they smell like urine. The VIP theatre didn't meet my expectation and for $20, I thought it would be a better experience. read more

Bestie got Christmas Gift cards to come here, and she invited me to come along to see 'Joy'. Scene card? Ten percent off. We stopped in the lounge for a snack, and our server Jason was spot on. He could tell it was our first time in the VIP room, and answered our questions patiently and with class. He told us he loves it there so much, he shows up to watch movies on his days off! Not overly impressed with the menu, and it differs only slightly from lounge to theater, but the ceviche was really something special, with shrimp and corn and toasted tortilla triangles. I LOVE how we can just shift our food and drinks from lounge to theater without hassle---and with Jason's help!. I LOVE the quick service that discretely disappears when the movie starts. I love how comfy the seats are, and how there's a place between chairs to put your used dishes and garbage without putting it on the floor or in your way. There's even a little tiny table for each person to hold your drinks. And I love the fact that I could have a popcorn combo, just like a regular theater, and order a beer as well. Bestie had a quesadilla. I'm guessing it was tasty, since she had no room for popcorn. Even the napkins are thick and feel like linen when you're drying tears from tear jerker scenes. Oh, and the movie itself? Go see 'Joy'. Jennifer Lawrence is spectacular, (Can that woman's eyes fill with tears on command?) and the story is inspiring. The only thing that makes this a four, and not a five, is the menu. I thought it looked a little boring. Then again, if i wanted fine dining, then I shouldn't have eaten at a theater, right? This is the best theater in the city. OH! I can you theater nerds cringing right now....."Oh no Samson.... the Metro is better..." True, those theaters have character, but if i'm seeing a big movie I want the best, and the technology in those are just out of date. If I want an art house film, serviced by slack jawed volunteers I'll head to the Metro (no offense to volunteers here who are working for a free movie pass). Otherwise it's off to the biggest baddest theater in Edmonton which is the Cineplex Odeon in Windemere. Here's why if you're visiting Edmonton you should visit this massive movie house. 1. VIP...18+ theater (there's non vip as well) with booze and snacks brought right up to you. 2. Did I mention NO CRYING BABIES or Annoying children in the VIP area? 3.Shorter lines and more polite staff then in any theater in Edmonton. They know they are the Flagship theater for their brand, so they are definitely on their toes. 4.Video Games! Yes they have a fun video game area. Pinball anyone? 5.Parking! Love this theatre, it is always clean! Although a bit hard to get to without a car, it's a great location amongst restaurants and stores. It has been open for a few years now but the parking lot at the back isn't finished yet so on busy weekends, finding parking in the lots can be a challenge. They offer the regular theatres, AVX and the VIP. The ticket prices on Tuesday are cheaper than other days. AVX costs a bit more than the regular theatre but has bigger seats that can recline a bit. The VIP ticket is also a bit more expensive and is for 18 years and over and offers alcoholic beverages and fast food. Menus are available on a mini table which slides in front of you at your seat, which is leather and has much more room so you don't have to worry about kicking the seat in front of you or your arm touching your neighbour. Servers are available to take your order and will bring your order directly to your seat. There are less seats available in VIP so you need to get your tickets early. There is an option of sweet popcorn from the little kiosk across from the main concession. Near the front doors, there's an arcade/games area. And for your convenience, the booth to print your online tickets is self-serve right when you walk in. This is a great place to hang out with friends, go on a date or enjoy a family movie. read more

Coming for date night to watch a movie, boyfie and I opted for the VIP theatre over the regular one as both of us have yet to experience it. Movie started at 6:40 and we killed time by visiting some pets at the nearby pet store (sooo cute) and got to the theatre at 6:30. Since it was our first time there, the hostess at the front let us know that if we wanted to place an order for food, there would be servers in the theatre taking orders prior to the movie, so we didn't have much time!! But that's okay since we already knew what we wanted. Sitting down, we grabbed the menu and I noticed that it was smaller than the menu displayed on the website. There's no calamari or spinach dip for appy's :( so I opted for a chipotle chicken wrap with pouring while my boyfriend got the buffalo chicken strips with sweet potato fries. We got our food before the movie started, but I wasn't expecting the wrap to be cold. The chicken strips that came were literal chicken strips with buffalo sauce poured over.. Kinda disappointing. And my wrap came cold. Since the movie already started to begin, I couldn't fish out the tomatos in the wrap and I found myself just picking out the chicken tenders and bacon by feeling around since I couldn't see a thing. I ended up eating 1/5th of the wrap, and my poutine was not at all impressive. It's a good date idea, but I suggest going to eat before or after the movie since the food here is not worth the 40$ I paid including drinks. The movie experience was great, the food, not so much. I haven't been to VIP in a long time so when the long awaited "Alien: Covenant" came out my fiancee and I decided to try to out. I was sad to discover that you can no longer use your scene points to purchase VIP tickets. Scene points are now only for the regular movie tickets. Besides the higher cost of the VIP experience, overall the staff were very friendly, and having food delivered to you was a bonus. The seats are very comfortable and with one other person you have your own private alcove. There's lots of leg room and a bonus drink holder with swing away tray tables. My fiancee ordered the poutine with bacon and I had the a la carte deal where I chose perogies and jalapeno poppers. It was all delicious! They were prompt with our food as well. It's definitely not somewhere I'd go for every movie as it is rather pricey, but for that one movie you've been dying to see i think the VIP experience is worth it. read more

I have been SO excited to check out this theatre... but never seemed to get there, so I just kept saving up my Scene points. Well, when my plans changed last minute last night, and I found myself on the southwest side of the city, we headed in. The person at the counter was incredibly unhelpful. I don't carry my Scene card typically because I rely on the app. But... somehow the app disconnected without me knowing and my scene number wasn't in there. I stood at the counter and fumbled trying to figure it out while the line grew behind me. I asked the employee if he was familiar with the app at all and could help me. His response was "no, I don't even have a scene card". Okay... I know it's not his job to help me with the app... but that was an opportunity to go above and beyond for the customer. So instead of using all the scene points that I had saved up for VIP tickets, I paid $50. Once in the theatre, the seats are narrower than I was expecting and are definitely showing their age with cracks and rips in them. The service was nice though. And there were plenty of reminders to get orders in before the movie started. And the servers were good about not blocking the screen when delivering food and beverages. Overall, not impressed. I'll stick with Landmark from now on. read more

This has got to be the WORST theatre I've ever been in. My daughter and I go to movies once a week, we usually go to south common but tried going to this one a few times. We ordered food (hot dog and poutine), she's only 6 and couldn't handle the taste and texture. We ended up throwing out our entire meal. We wanted to order the poptopia popcorn but they are hardly ever open, the one time we did manage to get some there was long black hairs mixed in. The seats aren't wide enough for a child's booster seat, the seat kept slipping off and my daughter kept falling off. I always avoid this theatre. read more

The VIP theatre is totally the cream of the crop! My wife never wants to go to the regular theatre anymore. Even if it is AVX and you can pick your seat! We love the relaxed atmosphere in the VIP and the lack of hustle and bustle. It's the perfect spot to kick back, relax, and enjoy the show. The iPads they use for the orders now also scan your Scene cards so they are staying afront of the the new technology which is nice as well. The staff are always polite and welcoming as well. VIP theatre is a nice treat. Big comfy seats with lots of leg room. When people walked by I didn't even have to move at all which is nice change from regular theatre seats. You get served food and alcohol at right at your seat... The servers were very attentive and the food and drinks were tasty. A little over priced but nice for a night out. Each of the Cineplex locations in Edmonton have their own quirks and perks, and Windermere is no exception. However, the "pro"s definitely outweigh the "con"s and keep me driving across town for more. PERKS: - The concession area is between the doors and the ticket taker. In other words, if your jonesing for some overpriced theatre popcorn, you can snag some here without buying a ticket first. (There is also a wee area with tables and chairs on the far side of the lobby.) - This theatre will often have titles that the other locations don't. Usually Oscar-buzzed indie fare, like little-watched Guillermo del Toro and Martin McDonagh films, will play here while other theatres are still tying up multiple screens with big blockbusters. (Because of this, I've driven from the Northside to Windermere just to see movies more than once.) - Being in Windermere has, for me, meant ridiculously nice staff. Like, small-town nice. - The seats in the main theatres are a faux leatherette, so you don't need to worry about years of soaked in fluids. QUIRKS: - With age, many of the seats now have cracking in the seams, which is not bad in the winter/long pants season, but can be down-right miserable in the summer. You'll want to bring a sweater to sit on in order to save cutting any exposed skin. - The arcade here is TINY and enclosed. Like, don't even bother. read more

This review is for the VIP theatre. This is an excellent, innovative idea for a movie theatre. I'm surprised that Cineplex didn't think of this thirty years ago. The best parts of this experience are: 1. Assigned seats. (Comfy seats with a fold-out tray.) 2. Waiters that bring you food prior to showtime. (Yes, PRIOR to showtime.) 3. Booze. 4. 18+ Admission, so you're (hopefully) getting a mature crowd. Generally if people are going to shell out $20 for a movie ticket, they're going to pay attention to the movie. No ADHD teenagers throwing ice cubes and popcorn around. One of the drawbacks to the in-seat service is that only the most expensive concession items are on the menu. You cannot order a small popcorn - you can only get the bigass size that comes in a bathtub. They're counting on the fact that people will be too lazy to go back to the lobby for a small popcorn once they get their asses parked into those comfy chairs. Speaking of lazy, some people have complained that the in-seat service does not last throughout the movie. Well duh! Imagine the waiters having to crawl over people in the dark to take food orders and make change, not to mention the beverages and whatever else that would get spilled on you in the process. You could forget about hearing the movie too as you listen to your neighbours inquire about the sodium content of the popcorn or how spicy the jalapeños are on the nachos. C'mon. It's like Alouise said in her review, it doesn't take long for people to get a sense of entitlement. If the bathtub-sized popcorn wasn't enough for you and you're still hungry during the movie, you WILL have to get up off your ass and buy a new one. Okay, my favourite part of the Cineplex VIP experience: None of the usual latecomers that show up after the lights go down, walking on peoples' feet, spilling popcorn as they look for a place to sit, spouting off the usual "'Scuse me sorry, 'Scuse me sorry." If you are one of these people, you suck. Learn how to tell time. One more thng about the seating: There is a divider between every second seat for the food trays. If you're purchasing tickets in pairs make sure you're not buying seats with a divider between them. That could make for an awkward date. Buy seats #1 & 2 or 3 & 4 or 5 & 6. Not 2 & 3 or 4 & 5 and so on. When you look at the seating chart online it does NOT show the divider. Keep that in mind. read more

Any one that knows me know that I am an absolute cinephile. I love the theatre, I love movies, I love every aspect of heading out to see a flick! So I was very excited to try the new Windermere theatres with 18+ VIP seats (that review to come). The theatre is in the very new Windermere complex, it is big with a parking lot that exceeds capacity. They have a super fancy popcorn station with sweet, savoury as well as the famed Chicago style, which is cheddar and caramel mixed together. Aaaamazing! Now we all know movie popcorn is crazy expensive, like ridiculous, and the fancy popcorn is right up there too. I think it was about $6.50 for the smallest size (and being at a giant Cineplex, small is not small at all). I politely mentioned to the girl working the till that I thought that it was too much popcorn and too much money, so I was going to decline. She then said she could charge me $4 and give me half a bag. Excuse me?! A perfect amount for a very decent price? Well, I'm sold! The customer service, plus an amenability to provide exactly what I need, absolutely blew me away! Thank you so so much to the nice young girl that was working. If only all theatres had young staff that actually care for the customers like this girl did. Oh, and to get back to the fancy popcorn; it was chocolate and salted caramel, and worth every penny! I'd never been to this location before and hadn't ever thought twice about the VIP experience. Well, now I've gone three times over the last few weeks. I love Love LOVE that there are no kids, that the licensed bar has a good selection of drinks and that I can take it into the theatre. I simply wish the seats were a bit more comfortable. I struggled to get settled throughout the entire movie and with the increased space between rows more people get up to go to the washroom. Even with those few detractors this is my theatre of choice going forward. I hope they open more in the city. It's a brilliant idea! Why didn't they do this earlier? read more

Best movie experience in Edmonton. My companion and I would always pop over to the VIP cinema for the best movies of the year. The very front row has always been our only choice of seating whenever we're up for a movie date. The seats enable you to recline down to 90degrees and it's roomier, comfier and definitely slightly bigger than the ones behind this front row. We would cancel our movie date if the front row seats weren't available. Having had a few experience with our favourite seats being booked out, we started reserving those seats a couple of hours ahead of time. The last time I was there, there was this lady who wouldn't keep her voice down while commenting about the movie really loud when we were watching Divergent. Quite annoying to the point that my partner wasn't too happy about it. I just hope that an authorised personnel would arrange some staffs to observe the rooms every now and then throughout the movie to ensure other cinema goers aren't affected by some ignorant people like her. That really killed our experience for that particular day. Nevertheless out of the 10times we've been here, 9 times were great. I am giving them a shining 4 stars for that matter. read more

Went to go see the New Star Wars Movie and decided to do the VIP experience for the first time. I really like the VIP experience but the only reason that I opted not to give them 5 stars is that it took them 25 minutes to make my speciality coffee. They claim they were brewing a new pot of coffee... But who takes 25 minutes to make coffee? The prices are reasonable and I quite enjoyed the Apple Blossom that the trophy wife and I shared before the show. I think they brought the wrong drinks to my wife and I in the theatre, but they were good anyway. The seats were comfier than most and had ample leg room and a nice little side table. I'll definitely be back again but this time I won't order a coffee. read more

I'm pretty hard nosed when it comes to reviews and it takes a lot to get even 4 stars from me. So I'm maybe giving them a bit more than I think. But I have only a few small small complaints... Or shall I say room for improvements?! This was my first time at this theatre and I was pleasantly surprised! We decided to check out the VIP theatres because I'd never been and the notion of being waited on at the movies seemed to be worth the extra cost, and it certainly was! The idea of an 18+ with the option of a cocktail or beer is genius! Why it took so long for Cineplex to bring this to Edmonton is beyond me. It was in Vancouver years ago! The chairs we all paired up so you can get snuggly with your date and they offer airline like lap tables to hold your food or drink. I loved this idea as I usually get an arsenal of goodies! Service is pretty good and it doesn't take long to give your order to one of their many servers. The wait for your food and drink on the other hand could use a little improvement, while my popcorn came quickly our drinks took a little longer than anticipated. I decided when my drinks came that I should order a soda and some goodies to munch on. They came about half way through the trailers and to my surprise with extra napkins!! As mentioned they could use some small improvements! Nothing major... So here goes! The chairs are not that comfortable!! I was really expecting a full lazy boy recline... But that's just me. I am short and can barely touch the ground so to be able to push back my chair is a task in itself. While the service was great some of the people delivering the food didn't know where it was going... A little annoying! Other than that it's a great way to spend an evening! And really... It's just minor improvements! I will be going the VIP route for all my movies in the future! It already costs a fortune to go to the movies, why not do it in style! read more

Ok, so I like paying the premium for the VIP seating. The space and arm rest (small table) you get is wonderful, but at the cost of a large screen. I like the 18+ aspect in the VIP section. Keeps the kiddies out and is much more of a civil environment. Very comfortable seats. We caught the 6:30 Furious 7. The complex opens at 6, which isn't that long of a time to order drinks and food. You might want more or less just before the show starts. I did and wasn't able to because the show started. That was a little disappointing. Drinks are pricey for what they are, but then again I should expect that. Nice experience. Definitely will be back. Can't wait for a downtown one to open. read more

Me and my husband took a vacation to the south side. So one of our stops was definitely to try the VIP movie experience. We came in at five to buy our Sunday night tickets and the 6 and 8pm VIP show seats were pretty much already sold out. We had to settle for the 9:30 show was was pretty disappointing because it wasn't I. 3D like the other shoes. Moral of the story book early and book online. Despite loosing out we still had to pay the $15 for the movie ticket + the $15 fee for the VIP experience. Yikes! Our only hope was it was worth all this pain. 930 was to late for us to wait to eat so we had already had a huge Indian buffet meal before arriving. We were allowed to enter the theatre a half hour before the show started. Before that we sat in the lounge for about 10 mins. The staff were very friendly and happy to answer all our stupid first timer questions. Once inside the waiters got to takin out order very quickly but others had to wait a lot longer and I noticed some customers were getting pretty annoyed by the wait. I think it helped that we were one of the first people to get in to the theatre. Since we had eaten already we only ordered a drink each. My husband went with a corona and I had the raspberry mojito. The drink was overly sweet. But I did enjoy the flavours of mint and raspberry together. The seating was not super comfy and the option of pulling up the arm rest did not really help as the seats are space that it's not the most ideal for cuddling. The menu looks pretty great and prices are surprisingly reasonably. Overall neither me nor my husband felt that the VIP experience was worth the added cost and will probably just stick to our usual movie going experience. read more

However, when the planets align and a big profile movie is released, it deserves the big screen and big sound treatment. The problem with movies we find are the movie goers who really insist that you are able to hear their conversation or have text message conversations. It really bugs me and I have finally found the answer to this problem: Windermere VIP. No teens chortling loudly or having side conversations during the movie, no camera flashes (yeah I've seen it happen...during a movie) firing off. As soon as you walk past the sliding glass doors to get to VIP, you're immediately asked for tickets and you can definitely feel the difference in the crowd and ambiance. The brick walls are decorated with black and white set photos of famous movies, there are contemporary lights hanging over comfortable leather seats, the carpet looks fresh and new. Everything screams premium and you can't help but want to order a cocktail or a glass of wine. They do have a separate concession stand inside but the big draw is the in-seating service they provide 30 minutes before the start of the movie. That's right, you have staff coming to visit you in your wider, deeper, leather seats taking and delivering your order while you wait for the start of the movie. Remember those fold out little tables in University? Well they have a much longer version for you in case you order actual meals. It's a really cool design feature that doesn't get in the way. Speaking of the seats, the theater itself is actually much smaller compared to the Ultra AVX theaters to accommodate for the larger chairs but also the extra leg room that is a welcomed addition. Unfortunately I did find the screen smaller than what I'm used to and the quality of the sound not as booming as the AVX theaters. With all of these amenities you are definitely going to feel it in your pocket book. Two orders of popcorn (we found smaller than the regular theaters), two non-alcoholic drinks, two alcoholic drinks and a shrimp salad ran for about $50. I can totally see VIP as more of a date night experience which gives it more gloss and fancier touch but that also detracts us from regularly visiting. TL;DR: Very pricy but you will have less inconsiderate people there. Outstanding seats and service. read more

I am rather jaded towards the VIP theatre, as there really isn't anything that makes you feel Very Important as a customer. I date a movie fanatic and we go to a movie almost once a week, always at VIP. The service in the lounge is usually very slow, doesn't matter what time of day or how busy it is, the service is always slow. Long waits for drinks and food. On Saturday we waited 30 minutes for two poutines and when they arrived, they were cold. This is par for the course. I don't think I've ever actually been served hot food. Why do I keep going back you ask? The comfort of the seats. They are over sized, you can stretch your legs and lean back. If it wasn't for these seats I wouldn't spend the extra money going to VIP. I'm a huge movie-goer - about a film every two weeks, so I'm quite familiar with all the theatres in the city, but this was my first visit to the super fancy VIP theatre at Windermere. Normally I hit South Common (closest) or the Princess & Garneau (for the less mainstream films), but my friends couldn't use the tickets they purchased here so I scooped them up. All I can say is "wow"! The seats are super comfortable (and perfect for couples), and the service it top notch. Once seated, they take your order and within minutes someone drops off your food. You can't beat that! The food is also exceptional. The menu has all kinds of items (my wife went with an orange float and the fried pickle slices - both oustanding she assured me) and the prices are about what you'd pay for the same items at a RedRobins-type eatery. I actually stuck with just a pop and a popcorn - I'm a traditionalist when it comes to the movie going experience (and while not just this location, I'm going to vent on being charged for butter (DOUBLE if you want layered!)!...boo to you, cineplex!!). Overall, a great experience - the only downside is the cost of the ticket. It wasn't until after the movie that I checked the price and was shocked at how much the luxury will cost you. Will I do it again? Probably only for a special occasion with a much-anticipated release, but in the meantime, I'm happy to just drop a few extra bucks on the reserved seats in the other auditoriums. read more

We like to go to a movie for our anniversary and this year decided to make it extra special by trying the VIP theatre. And wow - what a great experience! I think I would still save it for special occasions but we will definitely be back! Next time, we would come earlier though. We were there 1/2 before our show and the theatre wasn't yet open, so we grabbed a seat in the lounge, ordered a drink and ordered some food. We were also able to order our popcorn and drinks there too so we didn't have to stand in line for that. John, the best server ever, told us that he would bring everything to us in the theatre (other than our drinks, which he brought out right away). The doors opened so we went in and within 5 minutes, John was there with everything. Try the shrimp/pesto/goat cheese flatbreads - it is amazing!!! I think next time though, I would rather go early and eat at a table. While you do have the side table in the theatre, I'm just a messy eater and any steps I can take to help me not spill everywhere is better for me! But it sure is nice to not have to wait in line for food - and there were waiters with iPads in the theatre taking orders right up until the movie started. And oh so comfy seats! So much space for you and your friends, with the opportunity to lift that armrest to get in a little closer if you wish. We have been talking about trying the VIP cinema for some time. We actually got around to trying it this summer finally. We ended up seeing Guardians of the Galaxy a month or two after it first opened, and on a weeknight. This actually turned out to be a smart move as the theatre wasn't very crowded at all. I think our experience could have been much different if it was jam packed. The rest of the theatre outside the VIP area wasn't all that busy either. We ordered some cheese sticks and some drinks to start from our seats. It was pretty cool to get this kind of service in a theatre. Since it wasn't a busy night and the seats were mostly empty the service was pretty quick and easy. I did wonder what it would be like though if this were a premiere night and the seats were 100% full. Would the food service be a bit chaotic? I imagine it might be with staff running back and forth down somewhat tight aisles with food. Our experience was pretty good. The food was okay, I guess what you would expect from a theatre -- nothing fancy or great, standard deep fried from frozen fare. The seats are pretty great. Nice and big and comfy, with plenty of leg room. I didn't have to do an akward bend of my long legs when someone wanted to pass by. The arm trays were nice to hold food and beverages. It was an expensive movie, but was it worth it? Maybe. I enjoyed this outing but if the theatre was full it may have been another story which maybe I can attest to in a review update. In my opinion, the best cineplex in the city. It never feels crowded in the lobby, it is clean and spacious, and there is a Poptopia inside that makes flavoured popcorn. The VIP lounge and theatres are a great option for a date. They offer food and beverage service to your seat. The theatre is small, the seats and armrests are larger and there is lots of legroom. I've been to this theatre four times, twice in the regular theatres and twice in the VIP theatres. This is easily my favorite Cineplex in the city. In both types of theatres the seats are large and comfortable, and the sound and picture quality has always been excellent. I especially like the VIP area. There is so much leg room I can stretch out or cross my legs without worrying about hitting the seats in front of me. The seats are set up in pairs, so it is great for a date night. I love the "loveseat" feeling of the pairs of seats, and it feels like a real luxury to not be crowded next to people you don't know. I wouldn't recommend it for a group of three though, one person is going to end up feeling separated from the other two. Both times I've eaten in the theatres, the food has been very good, and not overpriced. If you want a better menu, order in the area outside the theatres (where the bar is set up). The menu is whole booklet rather than a single laminated card, and you can ask for boxes to take your food into the theatre if you can't finish it on the plate. Buying tickets on cheap Tuesday makes the VIP much more reasonable, and I feel like the VIP extras are worth the money. read more

If you're looking for a date night or just a family day out, this is the place to be! New, modern location. There are a lot of concession stands so the snack lines always move quickly. I always pre-purchase my tickets, but the ticket line never seems to be long. I've never had a problem with the mobile ticket pick up kiosk either! The VIP Experience is one to be had by everyone (18+ of course!). The bar and seating area is spacious and feels luxurious, the food is delicious! Once in your seats in the theater you can order drinks and food from the menu and they'll bring it to you before your movie begins! Arrive early to ensure you are able to order in time. Losing one star for food quality of the lounge food. I'm not sure how, but the person making my meal turned a simple quesadilla was so dry and hard that it was unpalatable. I also had a raspberry bellini and it was like drinking cold paint. I did have edamame and that was fine. Our server was quite good -- when I complimented her, she said it was her first serving job. Ah, the enthusiasm of someone who hasn't yet become jaded. Otherwise, the theatre is wonderful -- be sure to, if you're just two going, get two seats that actually sit together (as detailed in another review -- good job, btw). Otherwise, you'll be separated by two university-style desks -- tough to hold hands over! read more

I am usually not a theater goer but when my daughter recommended that we try this particular theatre I decided to give it a shot. I am very impressed and will definitely go again. There were 4 of us who went and we vary in height from 5' to 6' and we all found the seats very comfortable. I suffer from chronic back pain and often find seats very uncomfortable if I'm sitting for too long, but I found these seats very nice. I loved having my food and drink delivered to me and found the servers very friendly. It was great not having kids in the theatre and the lobby. That most definitely made the experience great. I'll most definitely be going back to this theatre. It was well worth the extra few bucks. I am looking forward to trying out the first row seats. Wonderful experience. read more

Now this is the way to watch a movie! This is an 18+ venue so there are no screaming or fussing children, and you can enjoy an alcoholic beverage with your movie. The lounge is pretty great. You can get food before you go in the theatre if you want, but they actually have seat service available 30 minutes before the film. You can order off of the menu and a server comes by with their tablet that sends the order to the kitchen. Your server comes equipped with a wireless payment terminal, so everything is taken care of right then and there. Don't forget your SCENE card, it gets you 10% off of your food bill! Shock Top Belgian White is on tap, which goes with just about anything. The food was actually pretty decent for a fast food service kind of place. I had the meat platter (theater charcuterie) which was a little skimpy for the price, but it was good. Hubby had the lobster mac n' cheese and really enjoyed it. Seats are comfortable, sound is great, bathrooms are clean and maintained. I am definitely willing to pay the extra price to have the same comforts of home while watching a movie in a theater! read more

I will admit, I do not go out to see many movies. I travel frequently, so most of my movies are watched on the small screen on the plane. So when we do go out for movies we try to see those movies that are really geared for the big screen. I have to say I really like the experience of the VIP Theatre. I like the fact that I get to sit in a larger seat, I like that I have space in front of me that people can walk by and I don't have to shift my legs or have to stand up to let them pass. I like the fact that I have a tray that swings out and I can put my drink, wallet, phone or whatever on it. So for the odd few times a year that I actually get to see a movie. I really don't mind paying the little bit extra to go into the VIP. Firstly, as you enter the building, the VIP entrance is inside. Once into the entrance, you have a bar and a few tables to have a drink prior to the movie. I've only done this once as I usually don't give myself much time to actually hang out prior to the show. Once inside, you get all of the points above, bigger seat, wider isles, and best of all. Someone actually comes to your seat and you get to order. Menus are at every seat, and ordering is simple. My only gripe about the menu is that they don't put on there what the concessions have (ie: the popcorn/drink combos). The times we've been there the servers are always very quick to get your order in, and typically the food/snacks are served up very quick. I've never had to wait long. And this is where all the great stuff ends. The food & drinks ! Now, I guess I shouldn't expect gourmet, however, I would appreciate the quality of the food to be a little better than pub grub. When comparing to pub food, at best it's average, and with a number of pubs stepping up their game, the value for money of the food at the theatre is at best poor. On the most recent visit to the theatre, we noticed that at least they have gone away from the paper box to a plastic plate when serving your food. I think it's a step in the right direction. I am still a bit choked about the nearly $60 bill for pop/popcorn and 2 snacks (note no alcohol ordered). Overall I love going to movies in the VIP Theatre, but I think next time I'll make sure I give myself enough time to have dinner at Swiss Chalet or Chili's prior to the show.
