I have lots of great memories of the IMAX at the Science Centre. They had film festivals and when I was working here, I would watch 3-4 movies in a row and enjoyed them all. The films are of great variety from animals, environment, action, and more! Recently, I went to see Pandas: The Journey Home in 3D. It was a weekday afternoon and there were about 10 others in the theatre. It would be great to see more people watching this film but it was shown a few times that day and has been playing for a while now. The seats are assigned when you buy your tickets. I was really impressed with the renovations of the theatre. I didn't have to hold my seat down which is great for those who have their hands full with snacks. Most of the seats are in the middle with about 4 on the sides. The 3D glasses they gave you are big and sturdy and almost seemed new even though people have worn them. They are much better than the ones I have worn at the regular theatres. If you are a panda fan, this is a must see film! For 40 minutes, we got to see cute and cuddly pandas as they grow from babies at the Wolong Panda Centre in China. There's also a story of a panda preparing and returned to the wild. Love the new IMAX theatre! The price is $13.95 for adults but there's a 10% coupon in the SUTP. The best way to see lots of shows more economically would be to purchase a membership or volunteer! One of the volunteer perks is to get free passes after you've completed certain number of hours and time but it's fun to volunteer here! read more

I would say that this is my favourite IMAX theatre in Edmonton -- it's also the location of the first one I ever visited. This fall they're upgrading the projection system so it will be 4K resolution with laser projection soon! That said they do a variety of different types of films here from educational ones to more popular fare. Sometimes they show non-IMAX films here too which can be fun. I really appreciate the fact that you can buy tickets online or by phone prior to getting to the Telus World of Science location. Seats are pre-assigned which is really great as it's not the largest venue in the world. If you sit in row D there's lots of leg room if you're super tall. The seats themselves are quite comfortable and have drink holders in the armrests (you can bring food into the theatre). Sometimes there are 3D shows. Very transit accessible, wheelchair accessible and with good sound, this theatre is definitely worth a visit. read more

This is my favorite movie theater in the city. It's located at Telus World of Science Edmonton #TWOSE. Few of the amenities that you can enjoy while you are waiting for your movie or after are: Wifi, wheelchair accessible - request assistance at the Box Office as they have to open an special door for you, strollers and wheelchairs are free of charge and a driver's license or credit card imprint is required for either a stroller or wheelchair. Public Washrooms equipped with baby change facilities and are wheelchair accessible. Public Lockers located in the main lobby by the Box Office. Bring coins as it is $1.00 per locker, non-refundable. Cafe shop is under renovation but it is open in Kinetic Hall, second floor. A modified Concession is open at the Information desk, and it will be there throughout the renovation phase. Early August is the projected completion date. In the last month I seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Imax 3D and Grease - this was shown on the Imax screen, but it is not an Imax movie, so the quality is not the same. Future movies I'll see for sure are Mama Mia on June 16, 2016 and A beautiful planet - Imax 3D - Opens April 29, 2016 I could keep writing about this theater but I think I will leave it here for now. The IMAX experience is great and it's no coincidence that movies that open in IMAX make a lot of money. The seating is set up perfectly so that no matter where you sit you can view the entire screen without a problem. The quality of the movies playing here are amazing and some of the scenes can be breathtaking. If you have a choice between watching something in IMAX or a regular theater, go for IMAX because it really does take a movie to another level. read more

Largest IMAX in Alberta! 4 stories tall & 7 wide! They told us they even have the sound level 6 levels below IMAX recommendations and thank goodness because it was still LOUD! The seats are comfy and they allow food & drink! If you pick up a Science center membership you'll snag discounts on IMAX movies, too! I left this place with the most brain-splitting headache I've ever had, so you KNOW it's good. I have a love/hate relationship with 3D though, but that's nothing against the IMAX Theatre, I just have a terrible pair of eyes for my age, and 3D movies (*cough* Avatar *cough*) tend to melt them out of their sockets. Like many of the other reviewers have mentioned, there always seems to be way too many kids here. Some days they'll be quiet, some days they'll be incredibly obnoxious and might ruin your experience. Maybe they keep a schedule. But if you're new to the IMAX experience, the IMAX theatre would be a great place to start. Here, or the one at West Edmonton Mall. read more

I don't know why I don't come here more often, but that will definitely be changing! I hadn't seen a film here in a couple of years, but when the chance arose to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them on the BIG screen, I jumped at it. This is unlike any other theatre you'll find in the area. The best seats in the house are in the back row... and you definitely want to try to get as close to there as possible. Being stuck too close up is not the best experience and you can give yourself a headache! I made that mistake when I was about 9 years old, and insisted on sitting in the front row for Fires of Kuwait. I learned my lesson. Anyways, there is nothing old or dated about this theatre. There seats are large leather seats, and you will easily forget that there is anybody sitting next to you. I usually get pretty uncomfortable and shift around quite a bit in theatre seats, but not this time! I don't think I moved once. The image and sound are world class, and second to none. And I think this is the largest screen in Canada... but don't quote me on that. I will absolutely be attending more shows in this theatre... and I honestly can't wait. read more

IMAX is probably the best way to watch a movie these days. Actually, IMAX 3-D is! This IMAX theatre is great. The screen is so big that it's fairly unbelievable. It stretches across such a huge space that no matter where you sit, you are going to have a great view. You can't possibly not! And you'll also be comfortable. The seats are great. They rival the seats at my favourite theatre - South Edmonton Common Cineplex Odeon. And I don't say that often! I grew up watching IMAX movies about beavers and polar bears so I will always be fond of the IMAX experience. And as the years pass, IMAX keeps getting better! The quality is phenomenal. A agree with Maria, there are always kids here. But I am usually so immersed in the movies that it doesn't bother me. If you've never seen an IMAX movie, you should. It's incredible! read more

I went to the IMAX theatre at Telus World of Science to watch the latest Star Wars movie. They indeed have great sound and screen size to enjoy this type of movies. The theater is not as big as the one at West Edmonton Mall, though.... you need to buy the tickets in advance or you will end up sitting very close to the screen and won't have the best experience. There is plenty of parking space at Telus World of Science so you won't have a problem with that, unless you go there in a very busy day. Hint, don't go on Family Day ;) read more

IMAX Theater promises world's most immersive movie experience, and delivers. The theater itself consists of only one auditorium, but this auditorium is large enough to accommodate more than hundred people. The auditorium seats are extremely comfortable. Whether you choose to sit closer to the front or at the back, you will have no problems seeing the giant screen. The picture quality is impressive which is especially important since IMAX shows educational movies about nature which involve images from underwater, high in the sky or from inside the volcano. Most movies run for 45-50 minutes, and tickets cost $13. My only rant in regards to IMAX is that any time of day and day of the week, there are always children present. And these children are not always interested in what is going on the screen, and prefer to chat, eat and run around instead. I recommend coming as late at night as possible, otherwise you will feel like a part of school field trip. read more

Do not trust the fake reviews put up by the Telus World of Science. If you've experienced anything close to IMAX in the past, and are hoping to get a taste of it here, you will be extremely disappointed. This theater is NOT endorsed by IMAX and is NOT the IMAX experience. You don't even need to take my word for it: The theater even says so in a disclaimer. Unfortunately, they don't actually give you this disclaimer until you've paid almost 15 dollars for your ticket and taken your seat. The first thing I noticed is how small the theater is. The screen is 4 stories tall by 70 feet wide, which is barely larger than most standard theaters, and one of the smallest that the IMAX brand allows. However, the diminutive screen size is actually the least of the theater's problems. What destroys any semblance of IMAX is the fact that they're not using IMAX film projectors. From what I can tell from the highly pixellated and blurry image, they're using a digital projector with a DVD as the source content of the film. That's right: A 720x480 image projected onto a 70x40 foot screen. Not only is this not the IMAX experience, this isn't even the Rainbow Cinema $2.50 Tuesdays experience. Needless to say, we walked out on the film about 3 minutes in. I walked up to the cashier, and she asked how I was doing. When I complained to the cashier and complained about the horrible quality and pointed out the disclaimer that it's not the IMAX experience, she said "That's right, it's BETTER than the IMAX experience." She then went on a tirade of arrogance about how it's the largest screen in Western Canada (completely false), and how amazing an experience it is. I was speechless. I wanted to rip her a new one right then and there, but what I really cared about was getting a refund. Fortunately, they were decent enough to offer me that. If you're interested in something much closer to the true IMAX experience, check out the Kramer IMAX Theater in Regina. They have a much larger screen, and they actually show real IMAX films on proper IMAX equipment. read more
