It reads less like a traditional breakfast lineup and more like two exceptionally confident dishes staring you down and asking, "Well, which direction are we going?" I chose the jerk chicken breakfast burrito because YOLO, and--oh my goodness--that thing was fantastic. First, it was enormous. I eat man-sized meals, and this burrito was still a beast. I could have divided it in half, eaten one portion for breakfast and the other for lunch, and never felt as though I had begun a diet. This was not a breakfast burrito trying to look impressive by being wrapped in extra foil. It had mass, purpose, and possibly its own gravitational field. More importantly, it tasted every bit as good as it looked. The ingredients were clearly high quality, and every part contributed something. The cheese was beautiful rather than being tossed in as the obligatory dairy participant. The jerk chicken brought incredible flavor, and the entire burrito was toasted to perfection. That final toast transformed the outside into exactly the right wrapper for everything happening inside. The gentleman cooking is less a chef than an artisan. This burrito did not feel assembled; it felt composed. Someone had clearly thought about the ingredients, proportions, texture, and preparation instead of merely putting breakfast into a tortilla and calling it a meal. If you are in Bellevue, go. If you are anywhere nearby, it is worth the detour. Run, don't walk--then remember that driving is faster, go back for the car, find the shared entrance on the right, and order the burrito. You'll soon get numb to the intermittent "Keno calling". It does sound tempting to play when you hear that "the last game had a two thousand dollar winner". I have never played. Service is excellent at Jimbo's Diner. Kurt W. waited on me tonight and, like his colleagues have done previously, did a great job. I started with a BIG bowl of delicious beef barley soup. I recommend the soup, but perhaps the smaller cup-size next time. Daily specials include prime rib on Thursday nights. That is what brought me here originally. Sub-$30 prime rib! I'm now coming back to try other food. Today is a Monday and it is Mexican night at Jimbo's Diner. Taco baskets and enchilada dinners are on sale. None of the specials cost more than $10 tonight. Expansive menu. Something for everybody. Unless it's prime rib night, I'm guessing it's hard to exceed a $25 tab unless you're drinking alcohol. Food comes out pretty quick. It needed salt but otherwise was good. The shrimp in the add showed breaded and fried, but they were baked on a skewer. She could not eat them as they had garlic on them, and she is very sensitive to garlic. I ate them and found them to taste very good. I ordered the tenderloin sandwich and fries. There was twice as much breading as there was meat, and it was way overcooked. The fries were fine. Service was fine and it was clean inside. We may have been the last customers as they close at 10 and we left about 9:45. One question we asked....they used to put garlic in their mashed potatoes. Our server confirmed that they no longer do that. Tonight was hit and miss. Overall the food was OK. Will we hurry back, that remains to be seen.
