Two stars for a local feel-good venue and a delicious hot dog cart courtesy of Mission dogs. Somewhat friendly bartending staff but they report to a terrible manager Sam. Avoid if you are at all any type of ethnic origin, when it gets crowded she'll cut you and "your group" off from drinks to make room for what they consider a more core customer. I've been here a few times for live music and for events and had a great time EVERY time! You would think with it being an outdoor venue in Texas, especially in the summer, would suck. NOPE! Can you find a run-down dive bar with egregiously rude staff, no indoor seating in the shadiest part of town? Yes, you can! I've been to the Scoot in 4 times, (the 4th and final time was for a friend's birthday party, which the staff completely ruined) Lets start with parking. I like the east side of Austin and it's music-scene / dive-bar section, but Scoot Inn is on a very dark street, where there are constantly shady people lurking and I know of several people who've had break-ins while parked on that street at night. The beer selection is terrible. The decent beers they claim to have on tap are perennially tapped-dry with no back-up kegs available. Every time I've been to Scoot Inn, the bartenders IGNORE the patrons standing at the bar trying to get a drink. Even when they're not busy. At the above mentioned birthday party I think was a Tuesday night, I arrived before most everyone else, and asked if anyone from the party had arrived. The bartender replied "Somebody's having a party here? Tonight? Fucking great." Then he and his coworker proceeded to stand there for the next 15-20 minutes bitching about their schedules, the owner, their pay, shitty customers, and how no one tips them. This whole time I'm standing there with a twenty in my hand, leaning forward on the bar, trying to re-establish eye-contact (which they are adamantly avoiding) to order a drink. Slowly, several other people arrived, and after 20 minutes or so, the other bar tender points at me. I order a beer (a beer! no mixing, no prep. just hand me the goddamn bottle) He turns away from me, grabs a broom, and continues sweeping for a few moments, grabs a rag, wipes down the back bar, then finally reaches into the cooler and retrieves my beer. Un-freaking-believable. This sort of service continues all night. Friends arrived, brought presents, a tray of cupcakes, and we ordered drinks, and yes, we tipped. Then, at 15 minutes before Midnight, with no warning for "last-call" One bar tender grabbed the trashcan at the end of the bar, set his arm on the bar beside the gifts and the remaining cup-cakes and swept them all into the trashcan. Meanwhile, the other bartender comes from behind the bar, literally grabbing drinks from people's hands and throwing them away. literally snatching them from peoples mouths, mid-sip. When we protested, a bartender pointed at the clock on the wall (yeah, the clock set 15 minutes fast) and said "we're closed," and the other bartender started yelling people's names who had tabs open. All this at 11:45pm, with no prior warning. I dunno, maybe the whole rude-hipster thing has it's appeal to some people. (and I have no problem with dive bars) Personally, I can't say enough bad things about this place. I'd rather drink a 40 in an alley with a bum soaking in his own urine. Avoid Scoot Inn like the plague. read more

Under TABC Law we were under the impression that a child can drink in accompany of a parent. They kicked our whole party out after months of planning and purchasing tickets and drinks. The owner stalked my son throughout from his entrance to the first sip and kicked us all out instead of telling us to stop. Awful service would never spend money here again. Later they threw away my shot of liquor on accident then refused to give me a new shot then kicked me out because I was upset. read more

I really liked Scoot before it was taken over by the owners of Longbranch. Now it's just better. They could have totally ruined this place, but instead they stayed true to the awesomeness and improved upon the potential that was already there. The outdoor stage is great and the events are always awesome. I do wish the bathrooms were a bit larger, but other than that I have 0% complaining to do. On a dark and stormy night ... I saw a bright and stormy set at the Scoot Inn. Actually, whenever I venture over to the East Side, it seems to be both dark and stormy. This night was no different. It's extra dark and extra stormy over there, generally, because somebody doesn't like to pay to light up that part of town like they do the rest, I guess. The neon lights on this joint made it visible from about a block away. The theme of the evening was comedy. Amateurs, mostly. Bad, bad, bad sex and Jesus jokes, mostly. Lots of begging shots from the audience. But I laughed, I cringed, I drank my Stella courtesy of Yelper Logan. Atmosphere inside was crowded, especially since everyone was trying to use all the available wooden chairs to sit and watch the audience -- many were forced to do the wallflower pose in order to remain comfortable. Aside from one underage comic who tried to make a joke about the big black X's on his hands that fell very, very flat, most of the crowd seemed late-20s to early-30s and pretty relaxed. I'd come back on a night when it wasn't all about the entertainment just to hang out, or during the day to try out the patio. I hate deer heads on the walls, but it seemed to fit with the image they were trying to create of a homey, old-fashioned hangout bar. read more

I went there a few times a couple years ago when I lived near the bar. It's a cool place. There were older mexican couples dancing and chillin. I went to the bathroom and a young(25ish) hispanic male asked me what i (whitey) was doing there. I said "Drinking a beer." and that was the end of the interaction. It was a little weird, but no harm no foul. Things are probably much different from then anyway because as Colby B. mentioned-the douchebags are winning. One of my favorite things to do in the springtime is to get on one of my bikes and cruise central Austin with a group of friends. The object originated as a reason to get out and about and to see things from a different perspective than one might experience while driving around. What inevitably happened was these little rides ended up becoming more and more centered around finding cool places to eat and more importantly drink! I had been to Red's Scoot Inn for a few shows over the years and even played there one New Years Eve with my band The Cutaway but hadn't experienced the place during the afternoon. It's much different than hanging outside under the huge oak trees watching bands play at night. In fact, during the late afternoons and early evenings you can actually hang out inside and even more so plop down at the bar. Now, i don't necessarily prefer being inside... it's just that normally when you go to Red's at night the inside is jam packed full of locals and when a gringo walks in it's as if the needle on the record scratches across the vinyl to a dead silence as all the locals stop and turn to see the strange guy entering their place. The coolest thing is that if you can get passed all that you will notice that they could care less and that they are actually very friendly. I suggest getting there before the crowd so you can, as i said before, plop down at the bar. Order a Lonestar and chat with the lady behind the bar. She is always friendly and full of insight. Sometimes you'll even have the honor of sitting next to one of the early-bird locals and he/she may even tell you how "things used to be". I never get tired of hearing stories of the "good ol' days" and now that I live on the east side, I look forward to more stories and more bike rides to Red's! Update! 1/10/07 - It looks like the guys over at Longbranch are taking over at Red's Scoot Inn. Bought in December of '06, they've already started working on the outside beer garden! As the oldest bar in Austin, The Historic Scoot Inn has infinite hipster cred (ugh...the Scoot Inn is SO OVER). And it's turned into quite the decent music venue. The past few years have seen it transform from a run-down shack into a much classier establishment, now complete with a giant wooden deck. I've been to a handful of music concerts (SXSW, Scootenanny!, etc.) and social events here and it's always been a blast. With the continued eastward expansion of the downtown nightlife, Scoot Inn no longer seems that far away from the rest of the city. You're just a block away from East/Hipster Sixth Street. Definitely a dive bar, and I *like* dive bars. I didn't feel safe parking my car out there; the streets were very dark, and there were people lurking that made me hesitant to even make the walk from my car inside. The indoor space is tiny. There were cats that wandered around inside and sprawled across the small indoor stage. The oudoor space was okay, but nothing to write home about. Lots of uneven ground, dirt, gravel, and it could have been anywhere. Austin has so much to offer in the way of outdoor bars and live music. I won't be back. read more

Was down in Austin for my friends bachelor party and we went and saw Chris Robinson Brotherhood at "Historic Scoot Inn". I consider my self a l live music junkie and take note of cool venues. Let me begin by saying this has to be one of the coolest venues I have ever been to, it almost seemed like we were in someone's backyard. Very small and interment, not to mention the bathroom situation was solid, plenty of porta potties. Top notch venue in my mind. read more

So I'm really disappointed to see so many low ratings for Scoot's Inn because this place is fantastic and even my cousin and best friend agreed. On Wednesday night my cousin, best friend and I went to Scoot's Inn to see The Naked and Famous my absolute favorite band and this place along with the band did not disappoint! So first I will say that the pictures you see on google and other sites do not do this place justice! We arrive at Scott's ten minutes before the door open (6:30PM) and lucky this place had $5 parking right next to the building. When you first enter Scoot's there is someone who will check you ID for an X if your under 21 or no X if your over 21 which just lets the bar know if you can or cannot drink. Then you walk up to the booth and show your ID and ticket then once you enter Scoot's venue there were two bouncers there however both guys were very friendly. Now when you enter pass the bouncers you will see on your left the stage and straight ahead there is the elevated bar with seating in front of the bar and right underneath the bar which is my recommendation since you can (1) sit there with your friends and table until the music starts and it is also great to stand on without blocking the people behind you that are sitting near the bar (which is what we did). They also have very clean and nice rustic type of bathrooms with 4 stalls I believe so YES to no porta potties haha they also have a food truck there but we ended up eating before the concert so I didnt get to try it but it smelled good and looked good from everyone else eating from there. They have a full on bar which can make any drink from a Moscow Mule to a Margarita on the rocks. The only disappointment is that my Moscow Mule cost $6 and from someone who gets this drink constantly I wasn't very impressed so i think switched to Stella and for a 14.9 oz can it was $7 so I will say I do find the drinks a little pricey but hey for the venue itself and the band it was worth it. Side note though this was my second concert ever and I will say I enjoyed it more than seeing U2 in 2009 in Houston NGR Stadium where it was absolutely crowded. At Scoot's Inn even though there were quite a bit of people there you had plenty of room to move around without running in or bumping elbows with other people, everyone there was really friendly and the crowd didnt knock into or push each other around when the band start. The only down side would be that you can smoke your e-cig or cigarettes there but for the venue it is understandable but there actually were only a few people smoking before the concert so it wasnt terrible. Will all that being said I cannot wait to return to Scoot's to enjoy another concert! read more

I came here for a private work party. The place is spacious and has plenty of space to spread out and hangout with your coworkers. Most of the venue is outdoor space. Then there is a small indoor space where we had karaoke sent up. Out side there was a large stage that was set up with a DJ who was actually my friend, DJ Konsept! He was spinning the jams all evening and we definitely had an awesome dance party! This is a great space for events! read more

I have to say that I loved the Scoot Inn. I went here to see Sideshow Tramps (formerly the Medicine Show in Houston, back in the day) and got to meet all the band members and even had them sign a poster. The best part of the whole night occurred when I was sitting outside and some random drunk jerk threw a bottle at another couple, so I went inside to tell the bouncer, being that I didn't want a bottle thrown at us. So the bouncer comes out and the drunk guys had already left, but the bartender bought me a drink for letting them know anyway, which was really cool. I don't know why I don't go here more often, this place rocks...well kinda...Where else can you show up late on a Friday night and immediately feel the groove of a Michael Jackson tribute band called Foot Patrol playing their hearts and souls out. The lead singer, who happens to be blind, still managed to take me back decades on the keyboards. If only I hadn't have gone to my Friday night softball game, I could have caught the whole set. It ended with "We are the World" and that was the icing on the cake. My t-shirt was drenched with sweat from dancing so much. However, let's talk about the venue. This place was packed and everyone was getting their dance on. Sweat and arms were flying everywhere. So you would think it wouldn't have been so hard to get a beer and/or bottled water when you walked up to the bar? Well...at 20 minute waits, it was. Only 3 bartenders when you have at least 18 plus people waiting at a time round the bar...it does not compute. If you are charging 10 dollar covers...hire more bartenders!! Also, there were some drunk idiots that decided it would be "funny" to slam their beer bottles down on the dancefloor while people were dancing (even after the band finished). So after I tattletelled and told the barback, you would think he would grab a broom and clean it up...but no..he was too busy to take care of safety issues like broken bottlenecks on the floor just waiting for an accident to happen. And please let's get some clean port-o-potties before the weekend even starts. At least they had toilet paper. I really enjoyed it here but next time, a few more staffers and more clean port-o-potties would have been nice. When I came here for the Spoon show, everything worked like clockwork. What happened to you guys? At least my scooter got princess parking in front. read more

This place has potential. If I lived in the area I might it up for a couple beers every now and then. Made my first visit Tuesday June 3rd primarily to see Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox play out on the stage outside on the patio/yard. The sound setup was sub-par...for Austin being the live music capital of the world. I can tolerate the decibel situation it being in the middle of a resurging residential area- I...but for the love of god at least mix the sound decently and have better speakers. It was a slap in the face to the mucho-talented Joel Guzman and the lovely Sarah Fox. Had two Dos XX to drink...each time served with very suspect looking limes...discolored and close to moldy- if not already there. Paid a $7 cover...I hope most of it- if not all of it went to the bands featured that night. read more

The Scoot Inn is a no-frills indoor & outdoor venue. Every bartender and door-person working at that place were very friendly. I do love the skee-ball inside and outside they have some benches and things. They could use more heat lamps during the cold outdoor shows. I would definitely check out more shows here just because of the small, but comfortable size of the place. Parking could be a problem as is the problem with many Austin music venues. read more

Scoot Inn + Knuckle Rumbler = good times. Finally made my way to Scoot Inn last Friday for Jigga Stardust. First, there is a ton of parking around this place. I didn't even park a full block away from the front door. Second, the place is charming. It looks (and pretty much is in fact) old as dirt, but still manages to feel inviting and not grimey. Third, drinks were just how I like 'em: cold, stout, and cheap. Great people watching, great dancing, great gin-soaked memories. read more

The folks at Scoot Inn have really classed the place up recently, but maintained the historic charm of the space. If you go on a normal night there's usually not a lot going on, but they do have their own locals that For me, Scoot Inn is a favorite place to go see live music in Austin because of the multi-level deck for easy viewing and the great audio quality I've come to expect. I've been going for years, but it's time to write a review because of the super professional way that the Lagunitas / Independence Brewing event was handled at Scoot Inn. Staff seems a little closed up. It took a few trips to the bar to feel welcomed by the bartender but he came around... The sound guy was either having a really bad day or is some sort of physical manifestation of anger. The door guy is probably the coolest Austin native I've ever met. Lovely, sweaty, loud, and relaxed place to catch some music and hang out. The stage is right across from the bar, with the door leading to the outside right in-between. The outside yard area is spacious with plenty of seating. It is a pretty divey place but it has heart. read more

This is a cool bar. When you walk inside it has the Austin / hipster vibe. They have a piano that you can just walk up and play if you are feeling musically inclined. When you walk outside, the area is very open. There is ample seating arrangements so you have a great selection of space to relax and have a good conversation with someone. They play great old school country music and it's all around a great social vibe. read more
