Ever since we began bringing our kids out here 20 years ago, coming to Scoopers for ice cream has been part of the ritual, along with go-carts, arcades, and visits to Marsh's museum. All local ice-creameries and a huge selection of flavors. 1) Yes the lines can be long. 2) Yes it's a little expensive. 3) Yes, black licorice ice cream will give you a surprise the next time you go #2. So if the lines are long, given the high cost, I've done an about face and gone to the grocery store for Haagen-Daaz. Assuming you have your own spoons. Remember with waffle cones, your first flavor is the one you get most of, so make it your fav! Pay first, get a number, go look at the flavors. Recently I spied the caramel popcorn at the front and decided that sounded mighty good - I asked for 1/4lb in a paper bag. The pleasant girl turned ghoulish measuring it out, tossing back individual kernels of popcorn into the bin making sure I didnt get "too much"...getting exactly 1/4 lb. I wouldnt be writing this if the popcorn was good - it was stale as heck, my guess it was 3-4 days old at least if not a week. It was horrible, inedible, and i would have taken it back if I wasnt halfway out of town. As much as I love Cascade Glacier ice cream (Huckleberry Heaven!), it's not worth the long wait in a line that's mostly at a stand still. There are better things to do with your time, like going to the beach, exploring the trails, or going to other ice cream shops. Long line doesn't mean they're the best, it just means they're inefficient. It's frustrating to see staff standing around and chatting with the customers in front while the rest of us have to wait. The other reviewers are right. It's better to go in the early morning to avoid the long wait. But I like my ice cream after a long hike, not before. On the plus side, one scoop is enormous. Very disappointing! We were in Long Beach for our son's 4th birthday. He asked for ice cream instead of cake, so we went in the evening after the beach. It was 9pm, but the line was at least 15 people deep, maybe more. There was only one lady working behind the counter. She was clearly tired and going slowly, which I can understand. It took us 45 minutes to order, than another 15 min to be served (we left just at closing time -10 pm). While I did observe her washing her hands twice, she kept her surgical face mask around her chin the entire time, with both her mouth and nose exposed. When she couldn't hear someone who WAS wearing a mask, she'd lean in even closer and say, "What?!??". At first, I tried to overlook it, but as a registered nurse who has personally taken care of at least one hundred COVID patients, I take hygiene and infection prevention VERY seriously. I was done when I saw her repeatedly go into multiple ice cream cases and breathe all over the ice cream. YUCK! We paid for our two small toys, canceled the ice cream order, and left totally disgusted. No mask, no more money! Not only was it painfully slow, but we will not patronize a business that doesn't enforce their posted "standards" on cleanliness and prevention strategies in regards to COVID-19. We are in Long Beach frequently, and there's definitely equally good places to get ice cream without also contracting a life threatening disease. At least three other parties ahead of me left without anything, and the lady who was in front of us told me in the parking lot that after waiting an hour, she had ordered something with caramel, and got something totally different. read more

Their ice cream product is the same brand you get everywhere else in the PNW, but their slow process & kids standing around doing nothing causes hour long waits for nothing special results. OH MY GOD! IT WAS INSANE! We waited for about an hour for ice cream! Why? I don't know why. Because we were at the beach? And to top it all off, my ice cream feel off my cone after about two bites. I will admit they have a huge selection and the staff was super cool. BUT with the COVID rules, they only had ONE lady serving. This was a candy and sweet shoppe from the dreams of Aphrodite. All kinds of chocolate confections, treats, and ice cream. The fudge I tried was delish, I had the lemon cheesecake and the classic fudge, both were excellent. I also had a waffle cone single scoop of rocky road.... Here's the thing, they have so many flavors of ice cream I wanted to try but I felt under pressure to decide, so I went with my old stand by of rocky road. I wish I had tried one of the weirder more unusual flavors but no regerts right. I think it was amazing! I took my family to get ice cream because we were are the beach, and it was probably one of the best ice creams we have ever had. It is kind of pricey and the lines might be kind of long, but I like how it's close to the beach so if I want ice cream on the beach, I can just stop by and get some. While the crowds are much thinner during COVID, there was still a line for ice cream. My waffle cone was stale and pretty hard. My sister's cone was significantly better but still not great. The 40+ flavors are overwhelming. The standard flavors (cookies and cream, huckleberry, and caramel) are all good. Nothing exceptional but still good. The featured flavor (with a bizarre name but including strawberry, pistachio and chocolate) was dreadful. One of the worst things I have ever tasted, fake and disgusting.
